Trouble creating an animated gif in Photoshop

Hello. I am having trouble creating a gif in Photoshop (using still images). I get as far as the step where you click the dropdown menu on the top right of the timeline screen (following multiple online tutorials) and don't see the option to "create new layer for each new frame". I get completely different options and none of them seem to be right. I am using Photoshop CC 2014 and am completely udated. Can anyone HELP?
Here is an example of a tutorial I followed (many say the same thing)
I get stuck at step 5:

Here is a screenshot of what I see, Argh!!!
Can anyone help? Thank you in advance!

With a document open in Photoshop CC 2014 use menu Window>Timeline to display the Timeline palette. In it you will see a button with a pull-down menu in the center.  The button can create a Frame Animation timeline or a Video  Timeline.  You want to create an Frame animation.  The Palette also has a fly-out menu opened by clicking the little down pointing triangle in its upper right corner.  There are some useful options in it. For example you can create two frames from some layers you have then have Photoshop create frames between them using the tween option. Then save out a PSD,  a Animated Gif and render a MP4.

  • Need Help creating an animated GIF in Photoshop CS6 Trail version

    Everyone,
I am new to PS6 and reating animated GIF's and would like to get some guidance.  I am trying
to put the following animation together and very confused when I try to get the section and also
how to add new things to it.  I am running the trial version of PS CS6 on a WIndoes 7 environment.
Trying to ensure that I can do the things I want prior to puchasing the product.
The following is what I want to do:
    1.     With the logo, have it be as if there is a spotlight moving back and forth at medium speed,
shining on the logo.  Wherever the light hits, have that section sparkle. That will be exquisite.
    2.     Have the "CLICK HERE," words alternate starkly (not blending) between white and pumpkin orange.
Again, medium speed. That will be garish, but is okay because it's not part of the designed section.
The file is attached.  I am having trouble trying to select just the "CLICK HERE" portion of the
logo to have the words alternating color.  I cannot figure out how to get a spotlight function to this logo.
Then how to have it sparkle when the spotlight hits the other section of the logo and not have the
spotlight going over to the "Click Here" part of the logo.
I could really use some direction on this and would appreciate it greatly.  Thanx in advance.
    Jerry

The banner does not have to be this large.  Here is a link to using the spotlight with sparkles:
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5012713-285076/371-194/bannerA nimTest2.gif
Also, the spotlight should be just over the "CLICK HERE" section.  If the spotlight could apply in the diameter to the whole text of "Click Here". and use the sparkles,
that would be great and then I can break it out and see how it is done.  Again, it does not have to be this large, maybe a little larger the the size of the first one I posted
would be good.  Then how would I get it to a jpg and gif file?  Thanx in advance.

Hi Melissa - thanks for your interest. Here's the first frame, the second frame and the tween frame. I don't understand why the tween is changing the position of the object in frame 2, was expecting it to just fade from one frame to the next.

  • Import animated GIF from Photoshop?

I have a question... I am unable to create custom animated gif's in Photoshop 5/6 and import them into Captivate 7.  It just says "The GIF file contains errors".  I've tried exporting on multiple settings and still no luck, same with exporting from Fireworks.
I am however able to import an exported gif from Flash, yet the quality is horrible and the transparency is buggy.  Is anyone else having this issue, or is there some setting that I am missing?  Basically I need to animate some images within a Captivate project, without the need of using a .SWF (for HTML5 output). Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

I experienced this issue with Captivate 8 and Photoshop CC...
I eventually realized if the animation has any frames with "no delay" I would get the error.  Changing those frames to a 0.1 second delay resolved my issue.  Not sure if this is the same bug you are experiencing but it's worth a try!

  • I need to create an animation sequence in photoshop cs6 longer than 5 seconds

I need to create an animation sequence in photoshop cs6 longer than 5 seconds. please help.

What problem are you having that should be easy just create the layer to make frames with. Create a frame animation in the timeline panel. Create the frames and set their display time. Save an animated gif for the web ie "Save For Web"
Prior to CS6 Photoshop only had a Animation Palette in CS Adobe replaced the palette with the Timeline Palette that can do Frame animations and Video. You can render a fame animation as a video but video does not support transparency like and animated Gif.

  • Creating a animated gif with transitions..

    Hello all,
I am creating a animated gif with a set number of pics. They will change every couple of seconds transitioning from dark to light very quickly until you see each pic, from picture to picture..
Kind of like something you would see in flicker....
I have not used flash in awhile, so was wondering how to go about this..
Is this a pretty easy thing to do in flash (not to time intensive)?
Is there a particular tool for this?
SInce there is no movement here is this something that I can also create in Dreamweaver?
I would like to place this on a web page I am working on, and I am thinking I could just place it where it needs to go in Fireworks before i bring it into dreamweaver...
    Thanks in advance!

You can create an animated gif using Flash, but it will be much simpler in Photoshop or Fireworks. See this technote:

  • How to create an animated gif with CS4?

Trying to create an animated gif from 8 images using FW CS4.  Can't find "how to" via online FW help.  Have done it before with version 8 -- followed the in-house Help db but CS4 doesn't have in-house db.  I found a tutorial: http://www.entheosweb.com/website_design/animated_gifs.asp, but talks about opening Frames panel (Windows > Frames) and  I can't even find the Frames panel in CS4!
Just trying to create simple animated gif as temporary portfolio.  Would also like to click on a different link for each image as it rotates if that's possible but main thing is just to create the gif.
    Thanks so much in advance!

For the first part of your question
File > Open, then at the bottom of the dialog Tick the open to Open As Animation.
Then browse/select multiple images, then Open.
This will automatically add each image to a State (Window > State, previously called Frames).
Then adjust the Frame Rate of each State. The default is 7th/100 (a sec). You should see the number 7 to the right of each State. Double click to adjust as desired. 100 = 1 second, 200 = 2 seconds and so on.
Once the animation is configured, go File > Save As > Animated Gif.

  • Help creating an animated gif for a navbar!!

Hey guys, I am very new to fireworks and dreamweave and am having a problem that is making my head spin! I have to create a simple animated .gif for a navigation bar (which will be made in dreamweaver). The navigation bar should function similar to this: http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/functionality.html. Essentially, all that is happening is I create this animated image and in dreamweaver, when I create the AP NavBar, I set the mouseover to that image. My problem is that in comparison to this website's mouseover image  ( http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~baronson/ITI320/Exercise2/images/navi/audience_OVER.gif ) my animated gif has multiple layers and states, where as his only has one layer. I can't seem to figure out how to include both the text, and the gif image, and incorporate them under the same layer.
A follow up question after having found how to incorporate both into the same state, would I have to lasso out each piece of my animated gif for the individual state I want to have it applied to?
Any help/pointer to where the information can be found would be greatly appreciated. I've read through the manuals and watched many of Babbage's videos but haven't been able to figure this out. Thanks!

Your gif doesn't need to have multiple layers, but it does need to have multiple states. To save yourself a lot of confusion, create the animated gifs first, and then export them. Create your navbar in the usual way, with simple rolloveres or swap images. Export the navbar.Rename the animated gifs with the names of the over state of the navbar images, and then delete (or mone to another folder) the over state images of the navbar. Move the renamed gif animations into the image folder of the navbar. Preview in browser. The animated gifs should have replaced the original over state of the buttons.

  • Newbie trying to create an Animated GIF

I'm a newbie working with FW-CS3 on a Vista environment.
I have two images (equal size) from which I want to create an
    animated gif,
whereby they rotate intermittently in an endless loop (i.e.
    image A displays
and then fades into image B, which after a while fades back
    to image A)
What is the easiest way to create this in FW-CS3? Is there
    any kind of a
wizard (or tutorial) to accomplish this?

It's better to do this kind of animation in Flash because the
    resulting
file size will be much smaller. If you have to do it in
    Fireworks,
then use the animation wizard to fade image one out in ten
    frames. Place
copies of the second image on frames 5 through 10 so that it
    is fully
revealed by the time image 1 finishes fading out. On frame
    11, begin
fading image two out, and on frame 5 of the second image
    fade, place a
copy of the first image and repeat. It sounds complicated,
    but if you
try it a couple of times, you'll get it.

  • Can you create an animated gif in LabVIEW?

    Hello,
I was wondering if there was a function within LabVIEW which can create an animated .gif file. Most of my online searches result in "how tos" for putting pre-existing gifs on the front panel.  I don't need to be able to display the gif anywhere in LabVIEW (FP nor BD), I'd just like to be able to create the file.  The "write gif file" vi which is buried deep in the LabVIEW program files did not seem to be what I'm looking for (why is that little guy so buried anyway?).
I have an array of all the image data I want to put in the image (which were all created in LabVIEW.  They are all FP control images).  It's looking like LabVIEW can't do this, so right now I just have been saving them all to a folder as png's so that I can export them to another program to make the animated image elsewhere.  I'd prefer if LabVIEW could just do it though, so is there a way?
I'm using Labview 2012 SP1, but I do have access to a few newer versions if that's what it takes.
    Thanks

    >> the easiest solution is to use a 3rd party tool to convert your folder of PNGs into an animated GIF. It's just one SystemExec call…
That's what it was looking like the answer would be.  Thanks.
I'm basically creating a series of images on an intensity graph.  As they are generated, I'm grabbing the image data and throwing them in an array.  I hadn't thought of looking into making a video.  I guess I figured a GIF would be simplest (I recently made some gifs in matlab and it was pretty simple, I was in that mindset).

    >> You could go find the file format for GIF and implement a routine to write it from LabVIEW
That seems a bit beyond me and probably not worth the time it would take me to figure it out.  This GIF isn't really that important for what I'm doing. Thank you though.

  • Creating animated GIF using Photoshop Scripting

    Hi,
I am trying to mimic the action "Save for Web & Devices" of a PSD file, having 4 frames in an animation, into an animated GIF file.
I was suggested to use "ScriptingListener", but I did the copy/paste of the code, it did not work.
Is there a way to code a script, by using classes/functions to achieve this result ?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jean-Louis

Yes that's my understanding for Javascript, with clarification that with "compile them all into animated GIF through script" using some external program (e.g. check out ImageMagick). Whether that is an OK solution depends on what you are trying to do (just for own internal use or distribution).

  • Animated gif in photoshop

    Hi
I'm running Photoshop 7 on a MacBook Pro. I previously used photoshop on a PC.
I created an animation using layers, and saved it as an optimised gif. However, when I tired to upload it to MySpace it would load: error message said it was an unsupported format.
I didn't have this problem before on the PC - any ideas what is different or how I can fix it?
    THanks
    Seamus

Hi, my apologies if that sounded condescending. Indeed I'm getting the same error as you do when trying to upload animated gif files created in either PS CS2 or IR CS2. I don't know what this site's problem is, because my gifs run in any browser. I have found that myspace accepts a gif file only when I open it in Safari and drag it from the browser window to the desktop first. Go figure.
I know it's annoying to have to open every gif file in Safari and drag it from the browser to the desktop, but at least it works this way.
It might just be some optimization setting in IR, although I wouldn't know what.
    Good luck

  • How to only edit one state when creating an animated .gif?

I created my first anaimated .gif image the other day. Now when I try to create a new one everytime I duplicate state and try to edit just the duplicated state all states are updated.  I only click on one state then as soon as I do something it updates all of them! How do I turn this off?  It's driving me nuts I've been messing with it for over 2 hours!  Ahhh.... thanks!

    Hi,
what's your Fireworks version? You should be able to edit and modify any state in an animated gif without all the States to modify.
Now all depends on what you have in your States. For example, if you have symbol 1 in State 1, you duplicate your State and get symbol 1 in State 2. When you modify symbol 1 all the symbols 1 will be modified at the same time.
