Trouble creating Apps folders

Lately I haven't been able to create folders for the apps on my iPhone 4 (both through the phone and on iTunes.) Everytime I try to pair two apps to create a folder, or put one into a pre-existing folder, the software fails to recongnize that I'm trying to create a folder and instead thinks I'm just trying rearrange the apps placement.
Any thoughts?

Orthoducks,
It may very well be getting used to a new OS - and all it's nuances.  Android has a "Home screen", your main work area where you can place icons/shortcuts for various apps, or widgets, which are usually larger than the icons and take up more screenspace, but are typically "functional", meaning they update information for you (weather widget, data usage, sports scores, etc).  The other screens are where you can place other widgets, and apps, for fast(er)  accessibility than searching through the app drawer.
I can organize my app drawer alphabetically, or date of download, or "custom", I can hide those I don't want to see or deal with, but on my phone, I can't put them into folders.  Since I use my home screen and other screens to put the apps I use most "at my fingertips" so to speak, I rarely go into the app drawer, except to grab a new app and put it on a screen.
I have my social and financial stuff, and email on my home screen, along with a weather widget.  Other screens contain games, my Kindle app, MyVerizon, stuff I don't use constantly like I do the email and social stuff.  You can pretty much customize your screens, or even remove the blank ones so you only have one or two instead of multiple, blank ones.  If you press and hold an app icon, you can move it between the screens by dragging it to the edge of one screen until the next screen pops in, then dropping the icon there.
Hope this helps, and playing around with it is the way to get familiar with how it all works, and comfortable with it all.

  • Creating .app folders in other operating systems?

    I'm working on a cross-platform game and am hoping to create an OS X port of it. I don't have access to a mac, and so am unable to use the xcode tool for creating .app folders. Are there any tools for creating .app folders on other operating systems? I'd prefer Linux, but can also use windows if required.
    Thanks
    Nathaniel

    Well, .app bundles are specific to Cocoa and Carbon applications... The closest way to make such applications is to use GNUStep (which is an open Cocoa) but it means to rebuild the whole app to make it work with Cocoa/GNUStep...
    However, application that are compatible with Mac OS X are not necessarily in .app bundles. Bundles are used for a specific purpose which gather files that the app should have really close, like its interface files (nib) that is used only with Cocoa or Carbon. If your app is neither Carbon nor Cocoa, there's no use in creating a .app bundle it doesn't even exist. And moreover, Xcode (or Project Builder on GNUStep) is the only app that creates .app bundles.

  • Creating App Folders

    I am trying to organize my IPAD by using app folders. I read you can press down on the icon and it then shakes, then you can drag it to another icon and it will create a folder. When I do this it just rearranges the icons. Is there a way to create app folders? I would also like to create email folders if possible.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    As was explained in the response to your other post on this issue, this will be possible when version iOS 4.2 comes out later this month. You can currently do it on the iPhone if you have iOS 4.0 or higher.

  • How to create app folders

    How can I group my apps into folders?

    Press on an app until they all wiggle, then tap and drag an app onto another app and it will create a folder that you can rename. You can have 12 apps in each folder. Tap the home button when you are done.

  • Trouble creating new app

    I am new to Planning and having trouble creating a new app. I'm working w/ the Classic App Wizard in Workspace. I have created a 'hypuser' schema on Oracle 10g and and I use this in the 'configure database' stage of the Planning config. I have created/activated an instance 'inst1', and then in 'data source configuration' I have created a new datasource called 'dsn1' and have configured it as follows. For Relational Storage Config I have:
    Server: TestServer
    Port: 1521
    Product: PLANNING
    Database: xe
    User: hypuser
    Password: password
    For Essbase Server Info, I have:
    Server: TestServer
    User: hypuser
    Password: password
    In the Classic App Wizard, I select 'Create Application' and see that my data source name is pre-populated in the Select tab. I go on to choose a name for my app, description etc. and choose 'Planning' project from the Shared Services Project list. I then choose the instance that I had configured/activated earlier and finally check the Sample application checkbox. I feel I have followed all the correct steps, so I click 'finish', and after 5 minutes I get a totally nondescript error message: *"An error occurred while processing this page. Please check the log for details"*
    Which log is this error msg referring to? I have searched thru my C:\Hyperion\Planning directory and don't see any log files. More importantly, I can't detect where I'm making a mistake in the overall Planning database/datasource config and app creation process? All my other Hyperion apps, Smartview, Financial Studio, Web Analysis etc are working great with my Oracle database, so I can't imagine that it's a database issue. But I don't know what else it can be! I have plenty of cpu/memory resources on my Window 2003 server machine.. (fyi).
    Appreciate any advise on how to diagnose/solve this issue.
    thanks,
    Akshay

    Hi John,
    I've posted the following log (below) from the command window after running "startHyperionPlanning.bat" and going thru the create app process in Workspace. The log seems to point to a few different things that I have underlined.
    1. It keeps referring to problems with JDBC connection. What does this mean in the context of Planning ?install/config?
    2. It says "cannot set catalog name to: xe" Should I have used "+oracle: xe+" during the Repository config stage as the SID? I've used +'xe'+ in other places with no problems.
    3. It also says that 'No object was successfully created...' because of either OLAP server or database not running. I've double-checked and both my essbase server and oracle db are working fine and can be accessed by other apps.
    What does all of this suggest is the root cause of the problem. Should I go into oracle and manually delete all tables from the 'hypuser' schema? I'm a little skeptical about this, because during the database config I always choose the 'drop tables...' option.
    Anyways, appreciate your continued help on this.
    thanks,
    Akshay

  • Is anyone else wasting a lot of his or her life constantly rearranging apps & app folders, trying to figure out how to organize them, and what to call each app folder?

    Because I'm constantly downloading & deleting new apps; struggling to figure out what the app folders should be called, where they should they be placed, and how to find them in the mess of apps & app folders; and because I don't know what it is about the design that has created this problem; I don't know what to do about it & I'm confused.
    I'm really curious about how small or big of a problem this is, if at all. Is anyone else wasting a lot of precious time which could be used for important things? Plus, is Apple trying to fix the problem like I asked them to? Thanks.

    I didn't mean that it's Apple's fault. Jeez, you've mis-interpreted my message, and already you're judging me. I've always had this immediate judgmental reaction & organizational problem. Plus, I have many disabilities like autism.
    What I meant was that certain people like me have trouble with organization; taking notes; understanding how technology, the world, real life, people, etc work; etc(especially since nobody ever taught me how to be organized).
    So sorry if I seem to be the only one who's having trouble understanding how to best use app folders. Sorry about that, I'm having a messed-up, bad day today.
    Anyways, it's even harder because there is/are no universal standard methods/controls/commonality/design/etc across many different companies/products/etc when it comes to technology).
    I'm used to using home computers where you can categorize emails, folders, software, etc by name/type/date/etc.
    I can't help it if I wasn't taught many of the things most people knew well before I did. I had to choose between academic classes/school/etc and small easy classes.
    Basically, what I'm trying to say is that Apple isn't to blame; but the design can be confusing to some people & it can help aid the person into creating this problem themselves.
    Plus, it increases the likelihood & possibility of the person developing this problem while using the iPad based on many different factors. So, Apple & their design are not responsible, but the design doesn't help the situation for some people.

  • I am so sick of the crappy way iTunes and iPad handle app folders.

    I'm a long-time iPad user who, for various reasons, has accumulated over 500 apps. It is absolutely essential that I keep my apps organized into folders. This requires a lot of folders, too: with a maximum of 20 apps per folder, that's at least 25 folders.
    What prompted this message is that after the last time a major software update decimated my carefully-constructed folder organization (which itself is inexcusable), I spent two hours with the horrible iTunes interface dragging and dropping and creating new folders and getting everything re-organized, finally, only to have iTunes fail to sync the changes to my iPad.
    It synced, but afterwards, the iPad still had its old folder layout, and iTunes still indicated the new one. I power-cycled the iPad and tried syncing again: same thing. I quit and re-launched iTunes and synced again, and lo, iTunes wiped all the tedious work I'd done and just copied the defective organization back from the iPad into iTunes.
    This isn't a one-time thing. It's consistently been the most time-consuming, time-wasting aspect of owning an iPad, and really, it's inexcusable for Apple to have let this go on and on for so long.
    Why not just let them float free instead of constantly hitting my head against the "folder wall" and gradually move the ones I use a lot to early pages? Well, it turns out that if you have too many apps installed, the iPad doesn't show them all: there's a limit to how many pages of apps it will show. Dang it.
    Why not use the search page to get to my apps? Well, I could, but some of them are named in unfortunate ways. (Also, when you search for an app, it doesn't indicate whether it's located in a folder nor in which folder it's located. That's not just stupid: it's caused me to go manually poking through folder after folder to find an app that I've "mis-filed".)
    And if you have multiple iDevices? I recently jumped from Android to iPhone, and guess what: I had to go through the whole, pain-staking process of creating a folder organization for the phone, because I couldn't use the iPad's as a template. I did learn my lesson, though: the iPhone only has installed the apps that I use on a regular basis. At least that cuts down on the length of the pain if not the intensity.
    C'mon, Apple, get a clue! This app folder "organization" is about as crappy as it gets. (Though you have a bad history of poor organization: how long did it take to get photo albums?) Please, please, please, if you can't at least get the novice-programmer-stupid-bugs out of your folder sync/iTunes logic, come up with an alternative.
    Here, I can think of a REALLY EASY one right off the bat: let me tag my apps and search/access them via tags. (Oh, say, then maybe I could just have a "smart folder" to make them easier to find.) (What? Be able to organize apps in more than two dimensions?) Or at least make the drag-and-drop-to-move-apps interface (on both the iPad and iTunes) less fragile and frustrating.
    Back to bashing my head against the wall... thanks for listening.

    I've had a not-so-rewarding experience with one of Apple's support-issue-submission forms. It was a reminder that as much as I'd prefer to think otherwise, Apple may be unusual, but it's just another company where it's not possible for everyone to be "above average".
    Frankly, I'd be happy in this case if iTunes dropped an XML file with apps-in-folders, let me mess with it, and then loaded and applied it to shuffle things around. That's one thing I love about OS X, but then that also allows one to be too smart for one's own good. Be careful what I ask for, I guess...

  • Applescript for creating job folders

    having trouble with an applescript. I'm trying to create an applescript that will create a job folder for me with job number and job name in which I can include folders and subfolders.
    I found this script by searching google and it's pretty much what I need (thank you to who ever might have created it). I altered the folder names to what I need, and it seems to work for the most part but throws an error at the end that says : Finder got an error: Can't make "drive:path" into type item
    however it still makes everything i need. I would just like to get rid of the error.
    the script editor highlights the line of text that's having issues for me, but since i barely knew what I was doing in the first place I don't know how or what to change.
    if someone could help me that would be great. here is the code.
    set thepath to {"drive:path"}
    set JobName to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Name:" default answer "Job Name")
    set incomingDate to (current date)
    set numYear to year of incomingDate as number
    set textYear to text -2 through -1 of (numYear as string)
    set JobNum to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Number:" default answer {textYear & "xxx"})
    set JobNumName to JobNum & "_" & JobName
    set newsublist to {{"Builds", {"versions"}}, {"Links"}, {"Fonts"}, {"Proofs"}}
    tell application "Finder"
    set baseFolder to make new folder with properties {name:JobNumName}
    repeat with i from 1 to count newsublist
    try
    set {tier2, t2Subs} to {item 1, item 2's items} of item i of newsublist
    set tier2Folder to make new folder at baseFolder with properties {name:(tier2)}
    repeat with tier3 in t2Subs
    make new folder at tier2Folder with properties {name:(tier3)}
    end repeat
    on error
    make new folder at baseFolder with properties {name:(item 1 of item i of newsublist)}
    end try
    end repeat
    activate
    open thepath
    end tell

    There are a few differences with Leopard that still get me from time to time. Tiger's AppleScript doesn't like path to desktop, so instead use the statement:
    set ThePath to (get path to desktop folder)
    The other thing I hadn't noticed before is if there is an error, the script just stops instead of throwing up a dialog. If you are doing something like using an illegal file name or trying to create a folder in a location that you don't have permissions, then unless the MakeFolderStructure statement is in a try statement it will fail silently. Adding an error display will at least tell you if there is an error, so a script that works in Tiger (as well as Leopard) is:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    -- make a folder structure at the currently selected Finder item
    tell application "Finder" to try -- get the current selection
    set ThePath to the first item of (get selection)
    if the last character of (ThePath as text) is not ":" then -- a file
    set ThePath to the container of ThePath
    end if
    on error -- default to the desktop
    set ThePath to (get path to desktop folder)
    end try
    set JobName to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Name:" default answer "Job Name")
    set textYear to text -2 through -1 of ((current date)'s year as text)
    set JobNum to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Number:" default answer {textYear & "xxx"})
    set JobNumName to JobNum & "_" & JobName
    try
    MakeFolderStructure out of {JobNumName, {"Builds", {"versions"}, "Links", "Fonts", "Proofs"}} at ThePath
    on error ErrorMessage number ErrorNumber -- oops
    activate me
    display alert "Error " & ErrorNumber message ErrorMessage
    end try
    to MakeFolderStructure out of SomeItem at SomeFolder
    make the folder structure defined in SomeItem at SomeFolder
    SomeList defines the structure:
    nested list items create folders in the previous text item - {"A", {"B", {"C"}}} = /A/B/C
    empty text items will create untitled folders
    parameters - SomeItem [mixed]: the folder structure
    SomeFolder [alias]: the destination folder
    returns nothing
    set ParentFolder to SomeFolder
    if class of SomeItem is list then
    repeat with AnItem in SomeItem
    if class of AnItem is list then -- add subfolder(s)
    MakeFolderStructure out of AnItem at SomeFolder
    else -- add a new child folder at the current parent
    tell application "Finder" to make new folder at ParentFolder with properties {name:AnItem}
    set SomeFolder to the result as alias
    end if
    end repeat
    else -- add a new (potential) parent folder
    tell application "Finder" to make new folder at SomeFolder with properties {name:AnItem}
    set ParentFolder to the result as alias
    end if
    end MakeFolderStructure</pre>

  • How to create new folders on iCloud Drive from iOS or with document picker?

    Recently I wanted to share several files from my iWorks suite with my colleagues. I do not want them to edit these files, instead I made templates in Numbers for easier management of hours worked. Everyone could download their copy and keep a track of their hours themselves. The problem is, not everyone has an Apple product.
    Unfortunately, iOS does not support native browsing of iCloud Drive (except the document picker, which, to me, isn't helpful at all), the only way I know of - to create a new folder - is to open iCloud.com in Safari, request the desktop site and make a new folder from there.
    Is there another way of creating new folders, preferably an official app from Apple or from within an iWorks app or the document picker that I do not know of? Or is this actually a missing feature?
    Also, if Apple could make an app similar to Microsoft OneDrive, that would be great.

    Yes, there is a way. Here is the workaround. You can add notes folders directly with your iPad or iPhone.

  • Creating New Folders

    Is there some way to create new folders in the Mail app on the iPhone? I can see where there is the folder at the bottom with the option to move emails to different folders besides Inbox; however, I can't find a way to create for example a "Hold" folder. I have several folders on my desktop's Mail program, but none got transferred to the iPhone when I did the sync.
    Thanks!

    if I use IMAP within Mail on my desktop, will my mail "rules" (filters) still function?
    Yes. If you have another e-mail client sorting things for you. All of your mail will be sorted when you get it on your iPhone (including de-spammed if your other e-mail program does that too).
    Only mail left in your InBox will be automatically downloaded to your phone. If you want to see mail filtered to somewhere else, you will have to touch that folder on the phone.

  • Creating app for Android/Kindle with App builder and Single Edition (No professional or Enterprise)

    Hi there,
    I know there is no official support for Android in Single Edition, but, once you have installed Indesing CC and App Builder in a mac, and you create app from your Folio menu, is it possible to create then an Android/Kindle apk app for publishing by your own?
    Has anybody published sucessfully in this way?
    Other point, is that I suposse that you need a Professional or Enterprise licence to create an android app from the Web-enablet App Builder. Cause I can't find the way the make my single account to join the role to this function (And app builder website website just tells me I have to do this, as if I were able to do it with my license...).
    By the way, I think Adobe should explain more clearly this points. There is too much documentation, but difficult to find this answers... And a lot of people with the same troubles...
    Thanks!

    Thanks Tomek!
    So, can you confirm if you join the Professional edition (just for a month) if you are able to use both options App Builder/Web-Based App Builder, to create the app in a way that you don't need to be suscribed more time to Professional Edition to be downloaded by the users in Google Play/Kindle Store, and it should work for Applestore (iphone apps) too. I mean, once again, no using Multi-issue and Renditions, cause in this case I know they are hosted by Adobe and you need the subscription to be downloaded.
    I think there are discussions here about this topic, but it's not exactly clear what I'm asking. So, I still don't know if I should buy the Professional Edition or go to another supplier as you said.
    I hope that Adobe improve these functions! There should be native support for these platforms, cause at the end you only can publish to the applestore with the Single Edition and everbody knows the "too booky problem" with the apps. And we should have support to publish to ibookstore because of that too, without third party solutions.

  • Creating Empty Folders in Build Specification

    I'm trying to create a build specification that creates sub folders with data required by the application.  This works out ok, but I also want to create empty folders the the app will use for data output.  I can't get the build to createa folder unless there is a file in it.  Is there a way to do this?
    TIA,
    Bill F

    Bill,
    I have tried the installation and it will not create a folder unless there is something in it.  Here we have two options.
    You can create a dummy file and place it in the "empty" directory.  This will make it non-empty and force its creation
    You can create the directory in LabVIEW.  This can be accomplished by following this KnowledgeBase article:
    Programmatically Searching For And Creating A New Directory Using LabVIEW

  • Creating file folders in iPad mail

    Is it possible to create mail folders in iPad mail, or is there an app that let's you organize mail into folders

    It depends on what email provider your using to make a new folder. For example I use gmail and coustum folders in gmail are called labels. Don't ask me why they are called labels... You can add a folder from the iPad and here is how to do it with gmail.
    Open a new browser window in Safari...
    Type in google.com in the URL address bar...
    Click on Gmail in the menu...
    Type in your user name and password...
    When Gmail loads, look at the bottom of the page and click on basic HTML...
    You can add folder (labels) in two places. From the settings (top right), label tab. Or from the  left hand column, labels, edit labels...
    Add the a new label with a name...
    You can add as many folders (labels) to you liking.
    Click on the email icon app. If the new folder doesn't show up hit the home button and click on the email app again, the new folder should show up.
    Once you have done this a few times you'll get a good workflow.
    I'm sure you can do this with other email providers that let's you access your email by way of a bowser page.

  • How do we create new folders?

    Hi folks,
    Just got a new Playbook and, contradicting all the bad press about it, it is actually very good. The question I have is: how do we create new folders? The only I can see are the "All", "Favorites", "Media" and "Games. Also, how do we sort by name the icons on the desktop? Thanks J. Rola

    Hi download Air browser from the App World. IT let's you make new folders, save documents and organize things efficiently. I just came across it last week by accident. Good luck.

  • Creating picture folders

    How can I create new photo albums without conecting to iTunes?

    Here's what worked for me using Windows7.
    If you have already Synced the photos on your PC with your iPad you will need to clear the images from the Photos App by re-syncing it. Re-connect the iPad to the PC and when you see the name of your iPad come up in the Devices list (in the left hand panel of iTunes), click it and select Photos across the top right of iTunes.
    Uncheck (untick) the photo syncing options and re-sync your iPad. Note: this will erase the images in your Photos App so make sure you still have all the photos you want on your PC
    Now that you have an empty Photos App. This will keep things simple.
    In My Pictures folder I created a Briefcase called "iPad image briefcase" (I'm not sure if previous versions of Windows used Briefcases but they're just a fancy way of Syncing files across different devices) Don't worry just create Folders and Sub-folders in previous versions of Windows.
    Under the "iPad image briefcase" I created different Folders. (note: you can't create Briefcases within Briefcases in Windows7, you must create Folders under their respective Briefcases)
    If you see a folder called iPad Photo Cache then start creating folders under that.
    The folders I created were:
    People
    Places
    Animals
    Parts
    Web images
    When I want to add images I just drag and drop them from my photo editor into the folders I want them to appear in. Not all file types are supported on the iPad so make sure its a JPEG or other supported file type.
    Only folders that actually have images in them will appear on the iPad Photos App. So if you have'nt put any images into Animals (for example) you won't see that folder on the ipad until you do.
