Trouble Creating Media Recovery Disc

I'm getting an error when attempting to create a Media Recovery Disc. The error is "unable to read file D:\SOURCES\BOOT.WIM - error code 020150-20-00000000". The D drive is my DVD/CD drive. How can I resolve this issue?

I was hoping we could find a download for the Recovery Disc Creator program. Either it or the recovery partition is probably corrupt.
If the computer is in warranty, I think you should call Toshiba's tech support at 800-457-7777.

  • Unable to create Media Recovery Disc on two Pavilion 15-e084ca units. F2 test fails as well.

    Hi,
Just purchased two Pavilion 15 Notebooks E1X77UA#ABL (Win 8-64bit) and have been unable to create Recovery Disks on both machines (managed to get several new coasters though . The optical drive is a CDDVDW SU-208CB SATA CdRom Device.
Tried several different brands of DVD media: Maxwell DVD-R, Verbatim DVD-R, Maxwell DVD+. Tried all these on a different machine and could burn to all of them. After several attempts, managed to get one set done on one of the machines. I'm not sure if it is normal or not but this took several hours.
Using the EFI diag routine (f2), running the diagnostic for optical drives, read write test fails on both machines and all media types listed above and also on various CDs as well. The error message: "the inserted Media is not the correct type"
When the first device failed, I contacted HP via chat and it was suggested that I return the laptop for replacement. However, now that I have two units showing the same issue, I feel that a thrid unit will just end up being the same problem.
Anyone else experiencing issues with this machine or drive? Could this be a firmware or bios issue? Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.

    Hi
What kind of DVDs you are using for creating a Toshiba recovery disc? As yet I have tried Verbatim DVD-R and TDK DVD-R and never had a problem with these discs. Friend of tried DVD+R and he couldnt create a recovery disc. After that he tried DVD-R and all was fine but I dont know why this happened.
    So please try other discs.
Furthermore check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of CD/DVD drive. Maybe it will help you.

  • Media Recovery Disc

I have a Satellite P305-S8820, running Vista 64. It does not seem to have the ability to create a recovery disc. When I search for "Media Recovery" or "Toshiba Recovery" I get negative results. When I tried to order a recovery disc, entering my serial number and part number, the only choice I have is for Vista 32. Is there any way I can recover my Vista 64 system in case of a failure?

Sure, you can upgrade that computer to Windows 7. Be sure to use the 32-bit version. See my recent post here.
After you restore Windows Vista, follow the instructions.

  • W530 unable to create factory recovery disc's

Hi all, Happy with new W530 but unable to create factory recovery discs.. Searched and found possible solutions in knowledge base and forum but none worked Until know Files for recovery media not found... (although i have two lenovo recovery partitions on SDD) Called support and they offered website to order recovery disc's (not for free???) Ok... then..filling in the necessay forms and providing all data ended up in not able to choose for Dutch language recovey disc's . How to proceed?

In my opinion, there should be a secure way for the owner of the machine to download the images in .ISO format so you can burn them.  Of course information would need to be verified to prove you are entitled to do so, but this doesn't need to be overly complicated.
Don't forget you can always get a Windows 7 disk and use the serial number under your battery to install Windows from scratch.
The only time I use the factory image disk set is if I decide to sell a machine.  I'll image it back to the factory state.  It's a pretty rare event.

    5. Click on "Create an ISO file for the recovery disc".
    6. Select the destination where you want to create the ISO files. (Default is the D: drive)

    9. Browse to the location of the ISO files. Double-click the recovery_dvd file. (Note: Depending on your system, you will have 1-3 recovery_dvd files)

    Hi:
If the HP Recovery Manager came installed with your other programs, there should be an option to create recovery disks.
If you don't have this program, then you may be able to order a set of recovery disks from HP for your notebook.
Call HP Technical Support for the country you live in at the link below.  If they have a separate number for business PC's/notebooks, call that number.
Inform the customer services rep you need to order a set of quick restore disks for your notebook.
You will need to provide the model number and serial number.
Costs range from free in the UK, to $10 in the USA, to more than $10 in other countries.

  • Trouble down loading recovery disc

I have a Toshiba L505D-ES5025 Satellite. I had to reboot the and restore the system files in order to get the computer back up and running since then everything is working fine my question is I am trying to create recovery disc incase this happens again first I tried going to the start button and type in backup ,the computer  recovery will stop down loading during the number 1 disc and just say unable to complete down load so then I went to the Toshiba bulletin board and tried to down load the recovery disc and it also stopped during the number 1 disc and it popped up " Failed to read file"
(D:\ZZImages\PREINSTS.SWM)  also had (error code 020150-000000). Is there anyway I can find out what this file is and repair it so I can download the recovery disc

Two things could be going on here.
First, sometimes lower quality discs can cause this. You could try a different brand of blank discs.
Second, the files could be damaged. If that's the case, you'd have to order recovery media from Toshiba.

  • Can't create the recovery discs for Toshiba Satellite C55-A5387 Laptop

Hello, I just got my Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8 and have barely used it. One of the first things I did was go to the TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator to make recovery discs but I get error messages when burning the DVDs.
Toward the end of burning the DVD I see this:
"Failed to read the following file.
     D:\ZZimages\ZZimages\install25.swm
    (error Code: 02014F-20-0000000)"
Or this slightly different error messages:
"Failed to read the following file.
     D:\ZZimages\ZZimages\install16.swm
    (error Code: 02014F-20-0000000)"
    Lost
    Solved!

If the problem is the recovery partition on your hard drive instead of the DVD's you will have to call Tech support 1-800-457-7777 , Call while you still have 90 days free tech support.

  • X301 - Problem creating Product Recovery Disc

    Hello,
I recently purchased an X301 laptop and have been trying to create a product recovery disc but to no avail.
Shortly after I begin the process, I get a message saying "Drive is not ready or is busy performing another operation."
Can anyone please suggest what might be the problem?
    The DVD burner is a Mat**bleep**a dvd-ram UJ-844 and I am using a SONY DVD+R DL disc.
    Thanks.

    machdeuce, welcome to the forum,
which OS do you have installed?
I have noticed that, using Vista, that the Vista "autoplay" function interferes with creating recovery discs. It sort of "takes over the drive". When required, insert the blank disc and click on the OK button before the Vista " autoplay has a chance to run. The autoplay dialogue field will come up and show the usual; copy files to disc etc., but you can then just close it without worry as the R&R has already received it's "orders" and will continue without problems.
    Hope this helps

  • Create a recovery disc

In trying to update Vista to Windows 7, I'm instructed to make a recovery disc.  When attempting this a message says only 1 copy is allowed and 1 has been created.  It's possible my husband created 1 when the desktop was purchased, but we can't locate it.  What are my options?  We have a flash drive for back-up, is it possible this automatically did a recovery ?  What are my options?  Should I procede w/o the recovery disc?

    Hi,
It does sound like a set of Vista Recovery Discs has already been created, but you can order a replacement set using the link below - I would definetely recommend ordering these, but there is nothing to prevent you upgrading in the meantime.
