Trouble cutting and pasting in Illustrator CS6

I have several eps files that I cannot select in order to copy and paste - I get a pencil with a circle/line through. I believe the file was created in CS5, so it should select. I have been able to copy other files from this source, but not the latest three files I've received.
Any ideas?

I spoke to the original artist and the reason I was having trouble is that the image by intention can’t be copied and pasted, but it CAN be placed (you were right – it is locked, but I can’t unlock it) – so I no longer have a problem. As usual it was my own limited education in the software. If anyone else has this problem, the resolution is to be in the document where you want to place the image, and access “place” from the file menu.

CS4 cutting and pasting from illustrator expands appearance

I'm working within CS4 taking a few simple vectors and pasting into ID, Everything seems to work except a few images which the strokes are converted to fills.
The illustrator file has multiple artboards but other items cut and paste perfectly.
Is there anyway to fix this? I've tried throwing a clipping mask around it, grouping, ungrouping, dragging... And I can't get it to work.

Do you know where the complex vs. simple starts and ends?
At the point that ID doesn't support the constuct natively.
I know that answer is less than useless. If you can figure it out, you'll probably also have a great future at the track or as a stock picker (and I don't mean in a warehouse).

Takes and comping live drums- trouble cutting and pasting comps- help

Senario, 10 tracks of drum mikes recorded in 8 takes. Swiping with groups on works like a charm. Issue, I want to be able to locate a 4 bar section in a comp and cut and paste it back to back and in every verse. It seems to work but when I go and start swiping takes to add to the comp, the comp pastes of the 4 bar piece starts playing something different than what was pasted there moments earlier. I then have to undo a few steps and cannot figure out what to do now.... Any tips, suggestions or work flows anyone can share with me regarding drum tracking. I have never tried to cut and paste within a comp and I want to believe that it should work just like editing regions. And then you can flatten ? Thanks

You hate takes, ok I don't really yet, but how do you put takes into folders without flattening first. So a folder opened up into an arrange window has folders named DRUMS TK1, DRUMS TK2, etc. But then you select all those takes and pack into yet another folder called DRUMS, Hmm. Copies of the folders you want to use, how do you determine what you want to use. I use the swipe feature and it shows me the sections from each take and I can hear what it all sounds like before flattening. Is your method a mix of old LP7 style drum take editing with packed folders ? If you are cutting the copied packed folders to taste, are you using the mute tool to shut off sections to audition each take ? Flattening using the glue tool, I am getting lost now sorry. I like the swiping feature especially when you have 13 drum tracks times 8 takes. I make a group called drums and when I swipe the Kick track let's say, all drum mikes get selected in the exact place and I can then audition each take by clicking on each kick take, then I move on after I choose a section. My problem arrived when I started to scissor cut the COMP folder before doing any flattening. It would appear to be editable just like a normal audio region and I wanted to just cut copy and paste the COMP folder while continuing to swipe and finish the COMP. Do you follow. I want to understand your method as well since I am still trying to get a system down for drum tracking with many mikes and takes. Thanks for your reply.

Trouble cutting and pasting all of a sudden.

Just in the last hour my computer has stopped being able to cut and paste. I have changed no settings. I can cut, and the text will disappear, but cannot paste. Also, it shows no 'reaction' when I do a command-c (copy), as it normally would.
Another interesting development, at the same time this started, various applications began quiting by themselves. Anytime I close a window on AOL IM for example, the application quits.
Is this a virus, or did I mess something up?
EDIT:
Noticed some more:
I cannot drag files in the finder, or in between apps.
Files on the desktop appear fuzzy, or 'old'. A Word file has big blocky lettering on it that looks out of focus.

Try running repair disk from your software install DVD.
Run permission repair from your HD.
Trash the finder preference file (com.apple.finder.plist)/
FYI, there are NO viruses that affect a Mac running OS X.

Why am I having trouble cutting and pasting shape animation keyframes?

Thank you for taking a look at my little problem...
I am creating a shape animation - a simple box that "dances". I create eight keyframes with control point changes. After the eighth keyframe I want to begin with the first again, by cutting an pasting the keyframes I've already created. When I try to paste one or more keyframes after the eighth keyframe, the pasted keyframe(s) produce unintended results. Point one seems to reset to 0,0 - and the others do not reflect the pasted keyframe either.
Is there something I am missing about cutting and pasting keyframes in the shape animation parameter?

Thanks Zoom - This will probably be the solution for me. Unfortunately there is some underlying problem going on. I can't get the "repeat" option by clicking and holding on the keyframe, but I can get it in the right column of the keyframe editor. But when I select repeat it doesn't change anything. I even selected "generate keyframes" - nothing. However, the program did slow down as though I had done something, and the "undo repeat" option was available in the edit menu. So the program thinks it did something. I'll keep poking around...

Non responsive copy and paste in Illustrator CS6

Hello,
Since April we are using the Adobe Design suite CS6. We are experiencing some serious copy and paste issues. When our users try to copy some artwork and paste it into the same image again, it might occur that the system is non responsive to the action performed. Really nothing happens.
This happens in about 50% of the times. The other 50% the artwork will appear within a delay of about 5-10 seconds.
Anyone having similar issues? Of could point us to any working direction?

Problems cutting and pasting into illustrator 4 after upgrading to MAC OS 10.6.44

I've been using my copy of CS4 illustrator without a problem until I recently upgraded to a macbookpro running OS10.6.4
When I copy items, any item into illustrator it puts a large black box around where the text is.
When I open up old documents I created on illustrator I can copy and past those text items without a problem. here is an example of what Illustrator is doing to my pastes:

If you have AppleCare, you should have a simplified Tech Tool Pro CD already. It is not part of Mac OS X. Tech Tool Pro is a third party utility package that helps diagnose and repair some problems that might occur with a Mac. Just Google for "Tech Tool Pro" (including the double quotes) and you will find tons of information on it. If you don't have Tech Tool Pro, its available for purchase at any store that sells Mac software.

Trouble cut and pasting on an imac since mouse has no right and left clicks...how can I highlight something and cut and paste somewhere else?

Holding the Mouse button down and dragging across text should highlight it, and Command-C Command-V should allow you to copy/paste.

How to cut and paste a picture into a shape in Illustrator CS4

In illustrator CS4 I am trying to cut and paste a picture into a shape. In freehand the shortcut was so easy. I know there is one in Illustrator but cant remember what it is, can anyone tell me?

What Steve said, with the addition that you may get rid of the outlying parts, by:
1) With the mask selected, in the Transparency palette dropdown select anything but Normal,
2) Object>Flatten Transparency, no need to change options,
unless you have withheld information and really want to distort the picture to fit the shape, in which case you should select both shape and picture and Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object.
The procedure 1) - 2) is destructive in case of vector artwork but makes no difference with raster images, and it makes it easier to avoid accidental/unwanted selection outside the Clipping Mask.

Yes, other users have complained about that. Unfortunately, Fireworks' development was halted a year ago, and I would be surprised if Adobe spends any money or time to fix bugs and interoperability issues in Fireworks. I would not expect any real updates or fixes.
Tough to swallow, but FW is dead in the water and EOL'ed.

Cut and paste hebrew

I am unable to cut and paste Hebrew from a Microsoft Word document into Illustrator CS6. When I do, the text is flipped and is pasted left to right, rather than right to left. Does Illustrator CC have international language support to allow one to cut and paste Hebrew?

Cut and paste bug within Symbols - anyone else?

I've come across a bug in Illustrator CS6. When I cut and paste content from within a symbol into the same or another symbol it pastes all the content from that symbol into it again.
Anyone else having this issue?
I can provide screenshots to help explain.

Same issue here, this is a major problem for me as i use symbols all the time. First time i've had the issue with CS6 - maybe it was always there....
If i cut some text from selected text inside a symbol and paste that text back into another symbol, all the text contained within the first symbol gets pasted even though it was not seletced!

I can't cut and paste

I want to cut and paste on my web page but the functions are not available and grayed out. I modified the user_pref as directed substituting the web page url for modzilla.org (actually cut and pasted exactly using notepad with no success. The modifications are saved in the file. which is have provided.

"I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet."
This problem started with me this morning and it does not happen when I open a test account. The thread stops after you asked if it occurs in the test account, did you ever find a solution to this issue? I am using mac mail 3.6 on system 10.5.8.

I can't cut and paste any images into apple mail

I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet.
I am using a gmail pop account and firefox as my primary browser. It took me a few times to figure this out as the image appears to be attached in my mail, but is removed when I send, such that if I have text and an image in an email the recipient receives only the text. Before I hit send I can see both the text and the image.
I have tried starting again in safe mode and repairing permissions. That has not helped. I can login to my gmail regularly and cut and paste images with no problem.
This is exceptionally frustrating.

How do I cut and paste text from a Word doc to my yahoo email?

I am suddenly unable to cut and paste from a Word document into the body of my yahoo email. I never had this problem before, but recently trying to paste my resume into the site 4entertainmentjobs.com, I ran into trouble. I followed your instructions and found my profile folder, but there was no user.js file in there. I created one in text edit and replaced mozilla.org with 4entertainmentjobs.com, but it still didn't work. Today I tried to go back and put Mozilla back in, but I still cannot get it to work. Then I downloaded your add-on "allow clipboard". That did not work either.
