Trouble deleting hames on my contact list

Help!  I cannot delete names on my contact list.  When I
click the contact tab, then highlight a name, then
hit menu delete does not come up.
Any ideas?????
Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Does the contact name have a symbol next to it on the right? It could be a SIM card contact and the only way to remove those is from the SIM manager under the applications.

  • Random contact numbers have been deleted/erased from my contacts list.

As the title says, after having a number ring me the other day ( my father), which I recognised, I checked my contacts list and discovered that numerous random contacts now have no number listed with them.
What could have caused this and is there any way that I can recover them?
I have not synced the phone for a while now and Im pretty sure that my father had rung me since the last time the phone was synced and his number was still logged at that time.

  • I can't seem to merge a redundant contact list with a current one. If I delete the redundant contact list I will lose all of my contacts that I have (still) been inadvertently adding using this as my default contact list.

When I was working with my old job I had a contact list on my phone that was associated with my job's personal email address. Now that I have a new mac and am now a new full time student I would like to use my new uni email address as my default contact list. I have now made this change but have only just realised that I have been adding contacts for a period of months using this now redundant list.
When I sync my computer with my phone (which is working great using iTunes), I am unable to get all of my recent contacts.
    I have three groups:
"All contacts" - I understand this is all of my contacts on my phone
"All from My Mac" - This is my new list and constitutes around 80% of my contacts
"Contacts" - This is the old list from my previous employer and contains (I think) 100% of my contacts. Well all of my useful ones anyway - maybe 99%. I would like to delete this group as I don't use the email address anymore and don't work for them!
The end result that I am looking for, is a complete list of ALL of my contacts synced with my computer in Outlook, and to be able to delete my old work contact list!
Please help (you bunch of legends).
    Dave

    Launch iTunes on your computer.
From the menu bar click iTunes > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Click Reset warnings and Reset cache
    Click OK.
    Restart your computer, launch iTunes.
Click Store > Check for Available Downloads...

  • Syncing iPhone 3G creates unwanted new contacts in Gmail contact list.

For reasons that are unknown to me, I have many multiple duplications of contacts in my contact list. So, using the contact manager in Gmail I spent many hours cleaning up my contact list so that all of my contacts were correct and not duplicated. However, as soon as I synced the iPhone 3G I immediately had twice as many contacts as before I started, once again ending up with hundreds of unnecessary contact duplications.
I have now spent many days reading internet blogs and forum posts, and came up with the following (which I incorrectly thought was the solution):
1] In iTunes, I clicked on 'Edit' --> 'Preferences' --> 'Devices'. Here, I enabled the option to 'prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically'. I also enabled the option to 'warn when any of the data on this computer will be changed'.
2] With the iPhone connected, in iTunes I clicked on 'devices' --> 'iPhone' --> 'Info'. Here, I un-checked the option to 'sync contacts', followed by clicking the button 'remove contacts'.
Now I confirmed that there are no contacts on the iPhone. Zero. None.
3] In Gmail, I once again spent many hours going trough all of my contacts, cleaning up the unnecessary duplicates. This time, however, I chose to export my contact list to a .CSV file on my computer, so that if this happens again I would just delete them all and restore my contact list fro this backup file.
Now I have 0 contacts on the iPhone, and approximately 250 contacts on my Gmail account.
4] In iTunes 10.2.1.1 running on Windows 7, I once again clicked on 'Edit' --> 'Preferences' --> 'Devices'. Here I now clicked the button to 'reset sync history'.
5] I connect the iPhone to the computer, re-enable the option to 'sync contacts with Gmail' and click the 'Apply' button. The iPhone sync process begins and I am presented with the following message:
Syncing with Google contacts will change more than 0% of your contacts on this computer.
    Information: Contacts. Add:41. Delete:0. Modify:2
Now I already confirmed that there were no contacts on the iPhone, so where are these 41 additions and 2 modifications coming from !?
I let it happen, knowing that I can repeat this process, using the '.CSV' backup file containing my correct contacts. When the Sync finishes, I log in to my Gmail account and check my contacts. I find that I now have approximately 360 contacts (which is a lot more than the original 250 plus 41), many of which are duplicated multiple times (one contact is even duplicated 6 times). I also notice contacts which I had previously deleted from my Gmail contacts list have now returned.
As there were 0 contacts on the phone, where are these duplicates and previously deleted contacts coming from when I sync the iPhone !? Somebody from Apple please help me.
    - James.

O.K. I may have fixed it (time will tell).
As I had previously chosen to sync with Microsoft Outlook 2010, but the trial period expired and the price to but it was far too high, so I changed to Syncing with Gmail. Therefore I wondered if Outlook may be affecting the iTunes sync even though it was not current chosen in iTunes contact sync option. So, I un-installed Microsoft Office 2010 and re-booted the PC. Now, pressing the 'Rest Sync History' button in iTunes no longer created new contacts in Gmail.
However, this did not completely solve the problem. With 0 contacts on the phone, and 0 contacts in Gmail, syncing the phone still re-created 41 of the previous contacts. Thew only way I could get rid of these 41 contacts was to deleted them one at a time from the iPhone itself. Doing it from Gmail, or un-checking the iTunes 'sync contacts' option to delete all contacts from the phone at once, did not work; the contacts still kept coming back.
Funny thing though, iTunes did indicate that it would add 41 contacts when I synced the phone to the computer, but after deleting them from the phone it now warned that it would delete 41 contacts from the computer. But, these contacts were not in my Gmail, so I still don't know where they were coming from.
Either way, after many hours spent over many days, I seem to now be able to sync my phone contacts with my Gmail without it creating any more unnecessary duplicates.
I hope someone out there can tell me why this happened, and I hope my experiences with this help someone else in a similar situation.
    - James.

  • How to remove (delete) FB contacts from the contact list.

I'm really new to my new Mac and having a bit of trouble trying to delete all the contacts that were downloaded to my contact list from Facebook. I have tried highlighting one and deleting it that way, but, the 'Remove from Group' doesn't light up.
I tried putting them in a particular group, such as FB contacts, then deleting that group. But, they still remain in the group titles 'All on My Mac'. How do I get them deleted from that group??

    To turn off Facebook contacts:
    1) Go to Contacts
    2) Click Group on the top
    3) Uncheck All Facebook
Then you shuold just see your regular contacts.
    Good luck.

  • How do I delete stored email addresses in my iphone? When sending photos, I don't want to have certain email addresses  "popping up" from the internal memory, I've deleted my entire "Contact" list but they still appear.  Help please!

How do I delete stored email addresses in my iphone? When sending photos, I don't want to have certain email addresses  "popping up" from the internal memory, I've deleted my entire "Contact" list but they still appear.  Help please!

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which is separate from the address book or contacts. The email address autofill feature when addressing an message pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients with iOS on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to remove a previous recipient from the list, or to add a previous recipient to the address book or contacts that is not already entered - not at the present time anyway.
The only way to purge the list of previous recipients at the present time is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, which will start being re-populated again with every sent message.

I have resorted my phone, used the spring clean app - none of these work, Have I saved this number somewhere else but I just can't get to it?

You got the new iphone?????   I have same problem.  I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was).  Have you found a solution?????   I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

Ive deleted contacts from my contacts list but they still pop up when i go to text and type in the name of a current contact. .  How can i delete them off my phones memory for good? iPhone 4S

At the present time, the only way to clear that is to restore the phone as new.  Perhaps a future iOS update will give us the option to clear that cache.

  • How do I delete a contact which is not in my contact list or anywhere else?

I need to delete contact information (email addresses and names) on my iPhone which keep coming up every time I type a remotely similar name in Mail, but isn't in my contact list.
I tried searching for the name and then the associated email address using the iPhone but came up with no result. I searched for the name and then the associated email address inside of my HP HDX-18t (Vista Ultimate 64bit) but came up with no result. I tried searching for the name and then the associated email address using the iPhone but came up with no result. I searched for the name and then the associated email address inside of my Yahoo account (using my Vista PC, not the iPhone) but came up with no result. I searched for the name and then the associated email address inside of all of my other email addresses and devices but came up with no result.
These names and the associated email addresses show up only in my iPhone and absolutely nowhere else. I tried Restoring my iPhone and that did not resolve the problem. Using the iPhone I tried going to Settings - General - Reset - Erase All Content and Settings. This did not solve the problem.
Every time I've ever sent an email to an email address and received a response from that email address that email address and name associated with the response has been stored someplace in the phone but no place else. This is a major pain because every time I try to send an email to one of my actual contacts I have to either type out their full name or flick through a stream of contacts which are not in any of my sources. This means I cannot send an email quickly (I'm using an iPhone so I should be used to a lack of speed, huh?) and am often lost in a sea of names and email addresses I cannot eliminate.
How do I get rid of this? I want all of the names and addresses which are not in any of my other locations gone! These are not even in my iPhone Contacts or even in the Sent email folders so there must be a way to delete them without their coming back!?!?!???!??!
Thanks all who answer with solutions which serve to solve the problem.

Try logging into your Yahoo account from a computer, search out the contact you are trying to delete and manually correct or delete the bad contact.
The bad information might be hidden as a second address or other contact information (or misspelled) and not be showing up on the iphone but will pull up the address anyway.
I had one old address in a contact that kept pulling up each time i tried to email him. The new address was there, but the old address was what the phone kept showing. When I edited the contact info from my computer the old address went away, and the new address started poping up.

I want the names of my Contact Lists to reveal which one it is instead of the generic Personal or Contact List. I want to combine two of them into one but can't figure out how to delete the old one. It's probably really simple but evidently the solor flare-ups have rendered me incapable of figuring out things like this! Thanks!
