Trouble deleting photos

I can no longer delete photos or drag them into the trash unless I am in edit function. Also, when I select a photo to edit, iPhoto jumps to the first picture in my library and opens that one for editing. Then I have to scroll back to the picture I want to edit. HELP!!!

Launch Font Book and make sure you have Helvetica Neue installed and active. If it's there, deactivate and then reactivate it.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Troubles deleting photos in iPhoto

I have got valuable help from Terence Devlin to rebuild my library.
Now a new problem has occurred: In my library I have photos from 2004 until now. When I try to delete photos that were taken the two last years, I'm allowed to delete them. But when I try to delete older photos, (one or several at a time), the programme crashes.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
    Best,
    Vegard

Check to see if the original photos are there by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Show File". If they are then try rebuilding again with just the last three options.
If that doesn't work rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
Also right after trying a deletion check the Console for any messages by iPhoto. That might tell you where it's choking.

  • Having trouble deleting photos from my ipad2

photos which have been imported onto my iPad I would now like to remove, but am unable to do so. I have connected the iPad to the iMac and am in iTunes, but now what?

RB, I also have this problem on an iPad 2.
Opened the Photo tab in iTunes, made sure none of the  photo options  were checked, clicked  Sync and Apply, and at the top "steps 1 and 2" appeared, but then that progress bar disappears every time.
THen downloaded the Wondershare app, and that didn't work either.
Is there no other way to delete all my photos?

  • Can't delete photos from Lightroom 2

    Hi all,
    My first post here.
I am having trouble deleting photos from my hard drive through Lightroom 2. It will remove the "Rejected" photos from the catalogue, but will only sporadically delete them from my hard drive. I've tried a number of solutions I read about on-line: deteting from the bottom filmstrip only rather than the grid, using Ctrl+backspace, etc. but nothing works. Or I should probably say that nothing works consistently. I also cannot find any pattern as to when it does delete them properly -- the last few days nothing has worked. Do I just have to live with this, or have any of you out there figured out?
I've also checked the properties of these files in Explorer -- they are not "Read only" nor are they "Hidden". I've made sure that I'm in the Library module, Grid view selected, all filters are off, and I've tried deleting them from individual folders as well as the "All Photographs" option. The last couple of days, all I can get is a message like "There are 203 files that cannot be deleted."
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Take care.

I think I saw this once, with a few rejects (only with Lr 2.) It would show me the reject grid view without any images, but I could still see them in the library grid as rejected.  Eventually I was able to reject them, but I don't remember what I did, other than ignore it and hope it went away eventually.
You can do nutty stuff like unflag the images (maybe make a collection first, so you don't lose them in your library) and then delete some or all of them from the filesystem.  Then let Lr complain about the missing files and make the gesture that drops them from the catalogue. It really depends if this problem is related to the underlying unlink operation or some database integrity issue.
I used to regularly SQLite vacuum my catalogue, too, so if it is catalogue related, perhaps that shook things loose.

  • Deleting Photos from 1st gen nano

    Hey
If anyone can help me with this problem that would be great. Im having trouble deleting photos off my nano....the problem being I cant figure out how to do it. I have tried reading the manuals but they dont really give an option of deleting, so hence my problem.

Remove the photo from the folder that you linked to when you set the preference "synchronize photos from" and update the iPod. For example, if the iPod is getting the pictures from the folder "My Pictures," remove or delete them from My Pictures.
You may already be using this method of managing your photos, but a good tip to prevent all your photos going on the iPod create a folder on your hard drive called called "iPod Photos" or something similar. Under the photo preferences for the iPod, point iTunes to "synchronize photos from" and update from there. If you keep a dedicated folder like this, you won't need to edit your normal pictures folder just for the iPod and you can add and remove picture from it whenever you need to.

  • IPhoto does not delete photos.

    Hi All,
I'm having some trouble deleting photos from iPhoto. My steps for deleting photos are this.
    1. Find the photo I want to delete in events (have tried this in the 'photo' tab also)
    2. Select the photo and press cmd - backspace to delete the photo.
    3. Empty the iPhoto trash.
    4. This is where I get confused, I check back in events/photos and its still there.
Why does it not delete from my computer?
    I am running snow leopard = 10.6.2
    And obviously iPhoto '09.
The same happened on my parents Mac Mini downstairs running the same version of snow leopard and iPhoto.
    Please help,
    Ollie

By backspace you mean the Delete key, right? Do you or have you confirmed that the photos are in the iPhoto Trash before emptying it via the IPhoto->Empty iPhoto Trash menu option?
If yes to all the above you may have a damaged library. Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.

  • TS3274 Can't delete photos

    Hi all,
I am having trouble deleting photos on my iPad. I'm fairly new to this so a little help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Photos that were taken with the iPad (or any photos in the camera roll) can be deleted right on the iPad. Tap the trash can icon in the top right corner if you are viewing the pho,to in full screen, or if you are viewing as thumbnails - tap the arrow in the upper right corner - tap the photos that you want to delete and then tap - Delete.
Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced -  and then re-syncing. You will have to connect the iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, click on the device name in the left sidebar, click on the Photos tab - and then uncheck the photos or albums that you want to remove - and then click on Apply in the lower right corer of iTunes.
If you are running iTunes 11, go to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes menu at the top of the screen in order to see the sidebar.

  • HT201077 I am having trouble deleting individual photos from my iPad on shared photo streaming.

I am having trouble deleting individual photos on Shared Photo Streaming on my iPad 2. There is not a trash can or delete option. If I choose edit on the first page, and I try to delete, the next step is to cancel photo sharing, which I don't want to do.

  • Having trouble deleting syned photos from my iPod Touch

When I first got my iPod touch, I made a folder of pictures I wanted on the iPod; mostly of my family and a few wallpapers for my touch screen. But now the folder is taking up extra space on my iPod and I want to remove it. The only trouble is, I deleted the folder from my PC and didn't bother to back it up with a disk because I didn't realize I would need the folder in my files later on to remove the pictures. The short end of it is the pictures seem to be permanently attached to my iPod.
What can I do to delete them for good??
and also, will this affect my downloaded pictures in my camera roll??

  • Trouble importing photos previously deleted from Elements Organizer

I am having trouble importing photos from iPhoto into Photoshop Elements Organizer. When I try to import, it says "Nothing was imported. The files or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this catalog." The photos I want to import, I had previously deleted from the Organizer, so I think they are "already in this catalog" but I don't know how to find them.

How are you attempting to do this? Step by step, what are you doing?

  • HT204053 my icloud id is not registered and having trouble deleting it from my ipad to replace with my original id. how can i delete my icloud if the system doesnt reconize it.

trouble deleting icloud account from IPad. The ID is not reconized and trouble resetting it.

Try going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • No longer able to delete photos

To make it easier to access the iPhoto library from multiple users on our computer, I moved the iPhoto Library to /Users/Shared/Pictures and set up permissions so that only the owner has write permission and other users are read-only (we had to do this to sync photos to multiple iPods; sharing via network doesn't allow this). However, despite the library and all subdirectories and files being owned by the user with write permission (and read permission, and execute permission for directories), that user is no longer able to delete photos in iPhoto. Whenever that user tried to delete a photo, iPhoto just beeps.
This seems strange. Why should the library directory location matter? All that should matter is file permissions, and that user has "rw" for ordinary files and "rwx" for directories. So, what's causing this trouble?

As Terence mentioned the Shared folder just doesn't work anymore. Here's Apple's document on sharing a library between multiple users: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users. The disk image method does work and you can set it up in everyone's account preferences to automatically mount then they log in. It would act just like an external HD. You would have to make sure to size it to accommodate growth in the library for some time to come.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Deleting photos from HD

I see a lot of threads concerning deleting photos from the HD via iPhoto, but they all seem to be for previous versions of iPhoto, and none of those solutions seem to work for iPhoto 08.
So... Does anyone know how to delete a photo permanently from the HD through iPhoto 08? The command - delete - empty trash thing does not work here!
I have the photos stored on my HD in the Pictures directory under Places in Finder. Deleting them via iPhoto seems to be an impossible task!

    jkluker:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How are you determining that the photos are not getting deleted from the library? Is your library a managed library (i.e. the photos are copied into the iPhoto library during import) or a referenced library (photos are not copied during import and only alias files are created in the library). If it's the latter you have to manually delete the "source" photos from the HD. If it's a managed library then you have something wrong with the library.
First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and see if that makes any difference. Next, if needed launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
If neither of the above helped create a test library, import a few photos and see if you can delete the photos from it and from the HD in the process. You'll have to open the library package to verify is the photos are truly gone. If they do delete properly your primary library is the problem.
If you're still having problems log into another account, create a test library and see if photos get deleted completely there. If they do your primary account is the culprit. It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's. Here's how you can check it out:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
    Happy New Year

If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back.
