Trouble disabling autoupdate in j2re install

I am trying to install the Java 2 Runtime environment 1.4.2_04 silently via a script. Everything seems to work the way I want it to except that after it is done, there is a task in the 'run' key (hklm\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run) to run jusched.exe.
I understand from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/faq.html#processes that this program checks for updates. The way to turn it off is to go into the update tab of the control panel for Java, and uncheck the appropriate box.
HOWEVER, when I installed it, I specified the property javaupdate=0 which (as per the documentation at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html) says that the Java Update feature will be disabled. When I specify that property, all it seems to do is to disable the Updates tab of the control panel icon (which is good), but it does not seem to disable the actual update checker (as evidenced by the extra run key).
Has anyone found a way to turn off updates during the install ? I want to hide the 'Updates' tab in the control panel but I also want to make sure that the 'check for updates' option is turned off. Right now I am thinking of using the script to delete the offending registry key, but I would rather have the correct 'Sun/Java approved' method.
Is there another .msi property that I could set to turn off the updates in addition to removing the control panel tab ?

In DM 6, I know we can disable autoupdate on a per user basis by unchecking the option in DM or by setting AutoUpdateEnabled=False in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion\DesktopAutoUpdate. What I'd like to know is how to disable the feature globally.
Is there a registry key or a setting during setup (in setup.ini or as a setup parameter) that can be use to globally disable autoupdate of DM?

How to update the apps while disable Settings General Restrictions Installing Apps ??

I will give my old iPad to my mom and I would like to disable "Settings>General>Restrictions>Installing Apps" so that she or other famliy kids will not unintentionally install some bad/garbage apps.
But I found a problem, without Apps Store, the apps already there will not be updated any more !! Am I right?
It seems that we need Apps Store for apps update, but disabling the "Settings>General>Restrictions>Installing Apps" will remove the Apps Store.
Does anybody know any way to work around? I mean the apps already there could be update while "Settings>General>Restrictions>Installing Apps" is disabled.

If you mean the built-in functionality of Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash, it's different mechanism for both.

After you've studied the above guides, you need to implement those to be used with ConfigMgr application deployment so that when you deploy Reader/Flash, you get the result you want = no automatic update functionality.

The good (?) news is many people are have OS 6.0.1 wifi problems.
I could not connect to my home network. What eventually worked for me (twice now), though it makes no sense, is to go to the particular connection you want to use, hit the little blue arrow on the right to get the details screen. Scroll down to the bottom and change "HTTP Proxy" from "None" to "Auto". Then leave the "URL" field that pops up blank.
This should not work. However, it has for me where many other suggestions have not.

I have windows xp service pack 3 home edition. 2100 Mhz AMD processor, 512 MB memory, 2 GB virtual memory. adobe version is 10,0,42,34 I have adobe flashplayer 10 active x, adobe flashplayer 10 plugin, adobe reader 9.3, shockwave flash 10.1.53.64 with shockwave director 6.0.0.55 macromedia shockwave for director netscape plugin version 6.0, and shockwave director 11.0.3.470 adobe shockwave for director netscape plug-in, version 11.0. I have had problems with Adobe DLM version 1.6.2.63 as it is not compatable with firefox 3.6.6.

Turns out that although libjavaplugin_oji.so is still shipped with Java, it's only there to support older browsers.
With Firefox 3.6 and later, the link in plugins should instead point to jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so

Wi-Fi disabled on startup after installing 10.7.3

I have a late 2008 Aluminium Unibody MacBook (5,1) and installed 10.7.3 via software update without problems.
But when I turned the machine on next morning, Wi-Fi was disabled and could not be activated via the menu bar control or network pref pane. After a couple of reboots--two, if I remember correctly--the MacBook booted up with Wi-Fi active and connected (I use a Fritz!Box 7390 WLAN router with both 2,4 and 5 GHz networks, connecting via 5 GHz by default).
I did then repair disk permissions and re-applied the Combo update. No cure, obviously.
Same again this morning - no Wi-Fi on startup first, connection just after a couple of reboots.
Wi-Fi hardware (Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 , firmware 5.100.98.75.19) always shows up in the system profile, it's just that it's disabled first.
No idea what's causing this issue - no problems on my side with reconnecting after wake from sleep, BTW. I never experienced any Wi-Fi issues until 10.7.2, so 10.7.3 has to be the culprit here.

To install firefox 5.0, message says avast1web rep20110101 will be disabled. What does this mean? Will it disable the avast antivirus installed on my computer?

What more can I tell you? Firefox recommends 5.0 be installed. When I try to do so, I get a message that says some addons are not compatible. specifically avast web rep 20110101. I have no idea what avast web rep 20110101 is and am concerned that it refers to the avast antivirus protection installed on my computer. I need to know if that is what the message means & that if I install 5.0, I will disable the antivirus protection.

Does this mean that Avast will continue to scan for viruses and protect my computer from harmful or malicious internet diseases?

Trouble getting eye TV hybrid installed

I just bought elgate eye TV hybrid for my iMac and when I plug in their device, my iMac dose not see it.
I am running 10.6.6 and my wife is running 10.6.5 there is no issue with her iMac. Other then being to small. I have a 27 inch and she has the 23 inch.
I also have the SSD drive also.
Has anyone else have trouble installing programs on their iMac.

Works ok on my 27", 10.6.6. Eyetv 3.5(6514).
Try unplugging the usb and replugging.

Trouble connecting to Airport after installing latest security update

Hi, I have just spent an hour with a level 2 SBC DSL tech and they could not resolve my problem. The problem is this: After installing the latest security update released on March 13 for OS 10.3.9, I can no longer securely connect to my airport. It may have something to do with the keychain because this has happened several times before, most recently after the previous security update about 2 weeks ago. Usually after much playing around, I get a window asking for permission for my new network settings to access the keychain. Once I say yes, all works fine. This time, I am not getting that prompt. Even though I have a full signal showing I am connected to the base, it will not pick up and IP address. Finally, the SBC tech had me disable the wireless key on the desktop pc that is the primary computer on the system and immediately my connections works. If I enable the wireless security key, I lose the connection. As I am completely open to hackers with the wireless security disabled, this is a big problem. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can anybody help me?! Thank you so much for your help!

Hi, my first post here!
I too experienced this problem this evening, after applying the latest security update to Panther. I had verified that the wireless base station was working correctly and that it's WEP key hadn't become corrupted. There were no error messages after re-starting the Mac, just no IP number via airport.
The keychain utility would hang if any attempt was made to alter the password for WEP, and the airport utility hung too. I used Disc Utility to verify permissions, which found dozens of errors - haven't done any maintenance for months - and fixed them.
On re-starting, Airport was 'OFF' so turned it on, was asked to allow access to keychain, and all is working again.
Thank you to those of you who posted the suggestion about permissions, you certainly saved my evening!

'Required components are disabled' error during trial install

I've downloaded the CS5.5 trial for the first time. When I install, I see three checkboxes for install: Encore, OnLocation, and Premiere Pro. The first two are checked, but the third is unchecked with a red X to the right of its name. If I try to select Premiere Pro, I see on the right side the message: 'Required compnents are disabled'. I have no idea what this means, but it unfortunately is immutable and prevents me from installing.
Older forum posts mention this phrase and that you need to run CS5Clean. I've done this and while I have some software installed (Flash Builder, , I've never installed Premiere before. Here is the output of my cleanup.xml:

I'm running a Macbook Pro i7 2.66Ghz 2010 model (6.2) with 8GB of RAM and ~18GB of space remaining.
A few possibilities looking over the list:
- These models come with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M video card, which I see is not in your supported GPU-accelerated list. Is GPU acceleration a hard requirement?
- I'm running off of a OCZ Vertex 3 solid-state drive. The requirements state a 7200RPM drive. While my drive more than meets that limit, I'm wondering if it's being detected incorrectly.
- I have swapped out my DVD drive for a second hard drive. It would not seem a necessary system requirement to have a DVD drive for the Premiere Pro functionality, but if this is a hard requirement then this may be the problem.
I can't do much about the first, but if it's either of the latter two I might. It'd be nice if the installer could tell me this directly.

Trouble opening pdf's after installing Yosemite

Recently installed Yosemite. Trouble opening pdf files e-mailed via Gmail. Opens fine on my iPhone, which is not running Yosemite. Any suggestions appreciated.

I do this all the time, using preview.
If you're using Adobe Reader, delete it completely and all should work fine.
