Trouble downloading from camera

I recently upgraded to ilife08 and now I cannot get photo's downloaded correctly. It is the same digital camera I used with the old ilife (my computer is 6 years old) which downloaded just fine. I tried 2 different disks of photo's, and I tried being patient. But it took nearly 15 minutes for 7 photo's on a disk with 200 to load so I pulled the plug. Anybody else have this trouble?
thanks, Moxie

thanks, I will try the new account now. I have the following 'stuff', I am pretty clueless here but I have 18.64 GB left of my original capacity of 55.9. The processor is 800 MHz power pc G4 with 512 MB SDRAM memory It runs a bit slow lately, may need more something?? I cannot afford a new one right now, the upgrade I did last year to 10.4.11 is, I am told, my last, but I hope to ride that one as far as she'll take me. I really appreciate the reply!

Bridge will do the job. View > Sort > ByType. Then you can choose a group of one type and put the files in a separate folder.

  • Iphoto will no longer download from camera

I have been using the earliest version of iphoto for several years and it worked great downloading from my Canon Powershot S1IS. About 6 months ago some of the images started coming in with parts grayed out, not all there, etc. Then it went through the entire download process with nothing showing up. I upgraded to iphoto 6. Now it tells me the images aren't a recognizable format. Any idea what the problem is? The camera/card works at digital output places???
    Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You might try downloading and running the 10.4.9 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions. It's been noted and recommended by Apple for a number of fixes, especially when incremental updates have been applied via Software Update.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Trouble importing from camera

I have been merrily importing photos from my relatively new Panasonic Lumix FX50 for a few months now. This weekend tried to import 101 photos from camera to iphot 5 and hit a wall. iphoto seems to read the contents of the chip and begin importing, but I never get the slide show showing the photos coming into the library. The wheel by the camera in the source pane spins, but even after 10 minutes no pictures are imported. I can stop the import and get out in a normal way, but no photos have been added to the library. I tried also on my laptop and husband's laptop and same thing exactly. This leads me to think it is a camera problem. I also noted that in the info pane it says there are 100 photos and 2 movies, however I looked and there are no movies.* Wonder why iphoto thinks they are there. Anyone with any clues out there? Thanks, Candace
    * Come to think of it, in the fall I took a couple of movies and iphoto just could not import them. Too big? Computer memory full? Still, why does it think there are movies in the camera now?

    Candace:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open Image Capture and manually upload all of the files from the camera to a folder on the desktop. Check to see if there are any .mov files in the folder. When the upload is complete disconnect the camera and reformat the memory card using the camera.
Import that folder into iPhoto while selecting not to import duplicates. That will only import those photos that didn't get imported when you tried earlier.
Make it a point to reformat the memory card with the camera after each import. That will start the next shoot with a clean card and no left over files/folders or directory indexes.

  • IPhoto opening and downloading from camera

Two problems: When I open iPhoto from Applications or from Dock, it doesn't open. I can search for a file and find one that is already in a file but am unable to get into the organize/edit/ library. Also, when downloading from my camera, the files do not go into the library. I can find the photo files by clicking on the camera icon, but i have to open them one by one. They do not just download and open in my iPhoto Library.

re: "There is nothing in Image Capture! Now?"
By "nothing in Image Capture", what exactly do you mean?
Did you open Image Capture and then go to the Image Capture Menu in your top menu bar then select its preferences and click on the "Camera" tab of its preferences and then click on the pop up menu and select which application (iPhoto?) to open when a camera is connected? Or is iPhoto selected and still does not open when you connect your camera?

    Hi Terence!
I can download from USB with the cameras own utility though (canon EOS utility in this case), but image capture, iphoto etc just lists the pics and halts at 0% when starting to download. This happens for both iPhone and camera pictures. All worked fine till a week ago...

  • Downloading from Camera to computor

I can not down load from my camera  "HP Photosmart M447" to my computor.
Im using a HP CN731A model D110a Printer ,Scanner

    Hi,
    Something is missing here:
    1. If you wish to transfer photos from camera to your computer you have to
    Connecting to the computer
    a. Turn off the camera, connect the camera and computer using the USB cable that came with your camera, then turn on the camera. Your computer's provided image transfer software should start. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer your images.
    b. When you have finished transferring images, disconnect the camera from the computer. If you encounter problems, set the camera’s USB Configuration to Disk Drive (see USB Configuration under “Using the Camera Setup Menu” on page 31) and reconnect to your computer.
    or
    Using a memory card reader
You can put your camera’s optional memory card into a (separately purchased) memory card reader. Some computers and HP Photosmart printers have built-in memory card slots which act as a memory card reader.
    a. Insert your camera’s memory card into the memory card reader (or into your computer’s memory card slot, if your computer has one).
    b. Your computer's image transfer software starts automatically and guides you through the process of transferring images.
    c. After verifying that the images were successfully transferred, return the memory card to your camera. If no application starts automatically or if you want to copy the images manually, look for the disk drive for the memory card, then copy the images to your local hard drive. For more information about how to copy files, refer to your computer's help.
    Source: Its manual
    2. In this case, you use the card reader on a printer. You need to map it to a network if your printer is active on a network, here is how:

  • Duplicate 'invisible' photos are being created when I download from camera

    Hi all,
Recently spotted a weird thing happening when I download images from my Nikon D200. I use Image Capture, but not sure if that's the problem. Hopefully you guys can help.
Basically, when burning a DVD of images for a friend, I noticed that if I dragged over the folder that contained the downloaded images, a new disc was created in Toast, and the disc size matched the size of the folder as seen in the Finder. However, if I created a blank disc and just copied over the folder contents themselves, not the actual folder, the disc size was 1.5GB smaller.
So, I fired up TinkerTool and turned on Invisible Files in the Finder, and was shocked to discover that throughout my hard drive, in the folders I download photos into from my camera there are duplicate invisible 'photos' with a period at the start of their name (rendering them invisible) that are the size of a full high res photo each - essentially doubling the size of the folder. If I delete a photo in the Finder, it's invisible counterpart doesn't get deleted with it - so what the heck are they? They're taking up GB upon GB upon GB of space on my drive and I can't even see them unless I use TinkerTool.

I am not a software engineer, but I doubt if these are left over temp files.
More than likely, capture keeps both - the original and the colour managed files. Why hidden, no idea. Maybe it's the camera telling it to do so, maybe some software can "see" both depending on the colour profile selected. Maybe, indeed it's a bug in the software. The best way to find out is to send a bug report and Apple will answer.
If you are using the Spyder you should not colour manage the images at all.
the only profile you should use it the Spyder one.
Colour profile is basically a "translator" of RGB colour values, which displays (and prints) the images with a specific "colour shift".
Each time you acquire an image there is an error built in into the image (no device is perfect), then when displayed on a screen, this screen will introduce another colour shift, then the printer will shift the colours again, and you may end up with wrong colours in the output; and that's where the calibration and colour profiling comes in.
Spyder will scan your screen and adjust it so that the colours are as true as possible. If will not fix any of the camera problems, but at least on a screen you get exactly the colours that the camera took.
(Calibrating a camera is normally not needed, but it can be done too.)
Now, if your screen in Spyder'ed (?) then any software you use to edit the shots in should be set to use the Spyder colour profile, otherwise, you'll not see the true representation of your colours.
When it comes to printing... don't even get me started Most commercial printing joints will supply you with their machine's profile, for home printers - trawl the Internet for the profiles or spend A LOT of money on print calibration.
I did check and I have no hidden files, I do not ask Capture to colour manage my shots.
I also never shoot JPEGs, RAW only. Later if I know I don't want an image for editing, but want to keep it, I dump it to a JPG and delete the RAW.
A silly question here, why not use the Nikon's provided software to download the pix?
    Hope that helps a little.

  • No longer able to download from camera

My first attempt to download some photos from my Canon MVX 450 went very smoothly.
My second attempt, using the same method, had resulted in complete failure. There is no message on the screen.
I amusing the same USB cable and the camera is connected to the mains power.
Can anyone please suggest what could be wrong?

    John:
What computer are you using and have you rebooted it recently? If not do so and see if that helps.
If necessary download and reapply the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC) or the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel) and try again.
In the meantime you should be able to use Image Capture to manually upload the photos to a folder on the Desktop and import it into iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. • Iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files downloaded from camera and card reader. Nor will it allow me to transfer from image capture

iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files from either the camera and card reader. Canon Eos rebel dig. Nor will it allow me to transfer images from image capture to iphoto. No problem downloading to image capture.

Sounds like a damaged card.  Get your photos off the card with Image Capture and then reformat the card in the camera.  Take some pictures and see if the card is recognized by iPhoto and the card reader.

  • Mixed up order/Grey photos/error message during download from camera

Hi all..I have been searching for the answer to this but have only seen the same problem when uploading from iPhone. I have had no problem in the past downloading the last 4200 pictures or so from my Canon Rebel XT, but yesterday all of a sudden I get GREY pictures (some not all), and out of order numbered images (some). This was accompanied by the error "private/var/tmp/folders/501/Temporaryitems/iPhoto/IMG_5504.JpG. . ." + four more Jpg #'s, though more than that were affected. When I click on the Grey picture (solid grey, not grey with question mark), it appears that the full MB and details of pic are there, I just can't see it. Pictures are on camera fine. Never had the number go out of order, and just this last download are affected. Any suggestions??

Thanks Terrence - I tried that and some imported (I think the camera battery died part way), so I tried to open some under Preview. The thumbnail was fine, it had the image,(and it reflected the larger GB that it should have been, so it wasn't just a small "thumbnail" file) but it still "opened" as grey. Very strange. Could it be a corrupt camera card or do you think it's an iPhoto/computer issue?

  • Download from camera to iPhoto or Photos

Until yesterday I could download the photos on my digital camera to iPhoto. My Mac has now done an update & installed Photos & when I plug the sync lead in from the camera it shows the new photos in the preview pane but when I try to download I get an error saying they are in an unrecognisable format. They are in jpeg format the same as they were before.
I've managed to download the same photos onto a Windows 8.1 laptop & email to my Mac. I saved them on an external drive then dragged them to Photos where they can be opened, but Photos will not let me download directly.
Can anybody help as I'm lost now! Before you get too technical I'm still adapting to a Mac from years of using Windows so it takes a while to find some things!!

I think it probably is either the memory card or the camera playing up as I connected up my other camera & it loaded fine. Thank you for your help.

  • Having trouble downloading from my sony hdd camcorder to my mac

I am having trouble transfering/downloading videos from my Sony HDD DCR-SR40 camcorder to my Macbook Pro,How do I get them to transfer?

I am having trouble transfering/downloading videos from my Sony HDD DCR-SR40 camcorder to my Macbook Pro,How do I get them to transfer?
Since you did not indicate the nature of your problems, I can only make a couple of generalized comments. 1) Most people import/capture DCR-SR40/60/80 "muxed" MPEG-2 content using iMovie ('08, '09, or '11). This workflow converts the files to QT edit-compatible formats (all I-frame M2V video with PCM audio) that is compatible with both QT 7 and QT X applications. 2) If you are already trying to use this workflow and are having problems getting the iMovie application to recognize the media/camcorder, recommend you change the order of connecting camcorder, powering-up camcorder, and booting the iMovie app.
