Trouble Dragging Clips to Sceneline

I am new to Adobe Premiere and working on my first project. I imported several AVCHD clips (Get Media > Files and Folders) into a new project. I am able to preview the clips, trim footage etc. Audio seems fine.
Trouble starts when, from the Edit > Project panel screen, I begin to drag the clips (one at a time) into the Sceneline. The first clip goes in fine and appears in the Sceneline and in the Monitor panel. But, when I drag the remaining clips instead of showing each clip individually along the Sceneline, they all seem to stack up behind the first clip instead of each clip appearing individually along the Sceneline. They seem to appear in the Monitor panel ok. I can't understand what I am doing wrong??
Any help is appreciated......................Thanks

What is the project preset that you set in the New Project dialog when you opened Premiere Elements 7? And, was your AVCHD video recorded with 5.1 channel sound?
If AVCHD and Stereo, select the project preset NTSC/AVCHD/HD 1080i30 or the PAL counterpart if you are in a PAL location. That is for 1440 x 1080 with a HD anamorphic ratio that gets you your 1920 x 1080.
If AVCHD and 5.1 channel sound, select the project preset NTSC/AVCHD/HD 1080i30 5.1 channel sound or the PAL counterpart if you are in a PAL location. That is for 1440 x 1080 with a HD anamorphic ratio that gets you your 1920 x 1080.
If you are recording Full AVCHD (1920 x 1080, square pixels), then in NTSC/AVCHD select one of the appropriate options.
You should be in the Timeline, instead of the Sceneline View, where you can see what is actually going on.
Adjusting your project presets as indicated above should do the job.

  • Trouble dragging clips to timeline

We are having trouble dragging clips into our project timeline. The clips seem to fade out and can't be manipulated or dragged. We have not had this problem before.

I only know of one cause for that:
When you have finished importing the video do not go straight to editing but first save the project, close iMovie, then open the project again.
Now the clips should behave themselves!
I hardly ever use the clips pane except for occasionally 'parking' a clip for later use. I always import straight into the timeline.

  • I am having trouble dragging a video clip from iPhoto to iMovie.

I am having trouble dragging a dropping a video clip from IPhoto to IMovie.  Has anyone done this?  Is this even possible?

I had this problem too, and I don't think it is possible; I'm pretty sure the only videos you can put on iMovie are ones you record with the built in camera on the computer, or a video camera.

  • Dragging clips to bins is very slow in Premiere CS6

I just upgraded to Premiere CS6 from CS 5.5 (no thank you, CC) and have problems with very slow speed when dragging clips from one bin to another in the Project panel. Here are the specifics:
I have about 1500 clips in a bin that I'm sorting through in the Project panel, putting clips into other bins as I classify them. If I have the 1500 clips sorted by the Name field, there's no delay as I move a clip or clips from the big bin to one of the smaller bins. If, however, I sort the 1500 clips by Media File Path in the Project panel (which puts the clips in chronological order because the file names reflect date and time), then doing the same work results in an 8-second delay every time I try to move a clip between bins.
I get the 8-second delay each and every time I drag a clip between bins. It occurs whether I select a single clip to drag or drag multiple clips. As soon as I sort in the panel by Name field instead of the Media File Path field, dragging has no delay.
I have no such trouble with delays in CS5.5, so I'm at a loss. I need to have the bin sorted by Media File Path, because I need them in chronological order as I evaluate them. But an 8-second delay each time I move a clip bogs me down so much it's impractical to get any sorting done.
I suspect this is a bug. I've upgraded to CS6.05, but that didn't fix it. Does anyone have a workaround?
    Thanks,
    Mike Boom

A good suggestion. I did try that earlier, but alas, no luck.
Sorting works across all bins in the Project panel, so once you sort on the Media File Path, drags are slow from all bins, even if you segment into bins as small as two clips.
Premiere is doing something bad with sorts after CS5.5. Looks like Adobe fell down on regression testing for the updated version. Then again, it's got to be hard to regression test as many features as Premiere has.

  • Why can I no longer drag clips?

I can no longer drag clips from the viewer to the canvas or timeline. When I the clip seems to disappear behind the canvas or timeline. "Show Overlay" is checked. The Edit Overlay box, which used to appear in the canvas, no longer appears. I use Final Cut Pro 7. I've edited a feature with no problem, so I'm assuming something has gotten switched off? Thanks.

Have you tried trashing your preferences? That is the usual first step when FCP begins to act in unexpected ways.
You can download Preference Manager (free) from Digital Rebellion and it will do it for you:

Your preferences will be reset to default settings the next time you launch FCP.

Hello everyone, I am having trouble with clipping paths in Photoshop CS5. What do you mean by "a Path Layer was created"?  Path are in the path palette, there is a path in shape layers and they is a path in a vector layer mask. I have never seen a reference to a path layer before this.  When a path in the path palette is selected activate it wall also be shown in the image window.  Does not matter if there is a targeted layer or not.  Control points may or may not be displayed. Using Path tool you can select and select segments and show some or all control points, Path are editable.
View the following image in a new tab and scale to actual pixels for a clear image this site scales image poorly.

  • Can't drag clips into timeline (newbie warning)

I'm sure that this has been discussed previously on this board, but I couldn't find a post.
Back to my problem: All of a sudden, the current project that I'm working on will not let me drag clips into the timeline. The clips turn to a "lite" color of gray and freeze. I'm brand new to this so a uncondescending response would be greatly appreciated.

Hi larget2 - this being a very friendly board, it is most unlikely that you will be scorned! We've all sought and been given willing help here from time to time.
Some more details might be of help in solving your problem:
How big is your project, and how much storage space do you have?
What is the source of your clips?
Is this your first project, or have you successfully completed others?
How far into the project were you before the problem began?
Is your project stored on your start-up disk, or on an external drive?
try repairing permissions (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility), and with iMovie closed down, trash this file: Users(you)>Library>Preferences>com.apple.imovie.plist.

  • Can't drag clip into movie

I have a library of clips. I've created projects before. I create a new project. I try to drag a clip into the new movie. It fails. The little clip icon just snaps back to the original location of the clip. I try other clips. Same thing.
Something has changed iMovie such that I can't create a new project and drag clips into it.

My bad. Error was between the chair and the keyboard. I was trying to drag whole clips rather than selections of frames.

  • Can't drag clip in expert without distortion of interface

can't drag clip in expert without distortion of interface
    What's wrong?

    ARBY-77
In what way are you distorting the interface in this task?
Are you referring to media already placed on the Timeline being disturbed when you drag a file to the Timeline from Project Assets? Or, maybe audio file already on the Timeline breaking up when you drag a file from Project Assets to the Timeline?
If so, please hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard as you drag the file in place on the Timeline.
If other than the above, please supply additional information for us to help you.
    Thanks.

  • Why can't i drag clips to timeline?

    I'm new.
Why can't i drag clips to timeline? I set in and out points but clips will not drag.

So it sounds like you're dragging from the source monitor and not from the project window. Either way, is it creating a new sequence for you when you drop it in over the blank timeline? If not what IS it doing? What version of pr are you using?

  • Unable to click and drag clips

Hi, first time poster, also new to MacBook.
I started using iMovie and all was well. However recently I am not able to click and drag clips into the project window...very odd... everything else appears to work...I can copy and paste which has other issues which can be avoided by dragging..
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Much thanks.

Drag 'n drop of clips can sometimes have a problem with timing delays in deactivating the Event window and activating the Project window for receipt of the dropped content. Try using the "Add Selection" or delay dropping the content until the Project window is fully activated. If this doesn't work, then you may have an installation, plist, or similar problem.

  • Can`t left click and drag clip into timeline..Need advice

Can`t left click and drag clip into timeline, or drag clips around in timeline.
Can insert into timeline from Source Window but can't drag from source window.
Can cut and paste within timeline.
Restarting cs5 doesn`t help, but restarting computer solves problem for a while.
Tried many mouses, but that didn`t help.

Thank you so much for asking
In the Project Panel a left click highlights the asset but ignores the drag.
In the timeline, a left click highlights the panel and when I try to drag it gives a flicker but that's all.
I can cut and paste in the timeline.
A restart of CS5 has no effect. Restarting the computer solves the problem for a while.
    Four different mouses--same problem.

  • Lags while dragging clips in timeline?

I just started using premeire cs6 recently.  Making the switch from Final Cut.
I noticed that when I grab a clip in the timeline and drag it to a new location, it has a lag.  The clip is choppy and always dragging about a half a second behind my mouse pointer which moves in real time.  In final cut, I never experienced any lag whatsoever which dragging clips around the timeline.  Is this normal in Premiere?  If not, any ideas on how to fix this?
I'm running an 8-core Mac Pro that doesn't typically run into performance issues... especially over something seemingly simple such as this.
    Please help.  Thanks.

I'm having the same problem but on windows. When I drag clips from the media browser that are located on my raid or p2 cards it takes a longer then what it seems it should be for them to appear on the timeline. The mouse curser doesn't change for me so it just looks like you didn't grab the clips but a few seconds after they lag then poof show up.
