Trouble ejecting new nano 4?

After "ipod sync is complete" I try to eject nano from iTunes and I get this message: "could not be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application.
When I try to eject from desktop I get this message:..."ipod is in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting applications and try again."
I have quit all other applications, even iTunes. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes, Virus Barrier X5.
This problem is only happening on my 4th gen. nano. I have an 3rd gen. nano and I never received any error messages or "can't eject".
Thanks

  • Downloading songs troubles with new nano

Hello. I recently revieved a new pink ipod nano for the holidays. I am having some trouble downloading songs onto it.
I curently have one ipod mini and one itunes account.
I have followed the little instruction thing that came with the new ipod nano but i have no luck.
[when it told me to turn off the computer it did and it turned back on and nothing really happened after that]
I would just like the songs to transfer to the new ipod nano. everytime i plug it into my computer it just is charging the battery and is not downloading any of the songs from the existing itunes account. do i need to make a brand new itunes account?
i would really not like to make a new itunes account on my other computer due to the ammount of space taken up by it.
i think i am doing it right but having the already existing itunes account has made it difficult? i really don't know and am confused..
if anybody could help me with this i would really appreciate it!!! i would like to have this problem resolved within the next day or two seeing i am going on a trip.

    A few questions for you.
Is this music purchased from the iTunes store you're having difficulty with, or all music?
How do you normally transfer music? Any error messages?

  • TS1363 having trouble syncing new 7th Gen nano to existing account

Trying to sync new nano to itunes library?

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62 and Windows 8.1.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • New Nano, Old Troubles

I just got my amazing 8GB black iPod Nano. It is so small, and at the same time, so big. I have a question, that I kwno has been answered before, but I am to lazy to look it up. So, how do you sync your new iPod to your _old and same iTunes_?

It should update your new Nano so I'm not sure what the problem is. Can you be more specific when you say "nothing happens"? Do you mean there is no message on the Nano screen saying it is syncing? No indication on the computer at all that you plugged in a Nano or that you clicked the sync button? No error message?
I assumed you've tried restarting your Mac as well as resetting your Nano. Is this a brand new Nano? If nothing works, it would be time to give Apple a call.

  • New nano, old itunes

I connected my new nano to the current version of itunes when I got it about a month ago. Since then, I have reinstalled operating system/softwear from original discs (OS X 10.4, iTunes 4.71). As I am attempting to figure out if my hard drive issues are softwear or hardwear related (all seemed to start after updating iTunes) I'm reluctant to update again. My nano's battery is wearing down, and I'm not sure what will happen when I connect it. I had it set to manual updating. All I really want to do is charge the battery. Any guesses?

I understand that, but among our friends and relatives, we do not have any problem with iTunes 7. Have you try the following
    Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • I cannot EJECT my nano...

I tried ejecting my nano after it finished charging, but I kept getting this pop-up message saying: some files on my iPod may be in use by another application, as a result, it can't be ejected. BUT the thing is, iTunes is the ONLY application I have opened in my computer, AND I was not using any of the files in other application. WHAT DO I DO TO EJECT MY NANO? HELP~~
    4 GB Nano   Windows XP

Easy way. Reset the iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.
Another way. Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.

If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.

If all else fails shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.

  • Upgrading to new nano

I currently own a 3rd gen iPod nano and I am planing on buying a new 5th gen iPod nano. The question I have is that I am planing on selling my 3rd gen to a coworker, what do I have to do to the 3rd gen to make it possible for them to use without any trouble? I have also downloaded some games onto the 3rd gen, is there any way to save those and transfer to the new nano?

    Hello ccluney,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Before giving the iPod to your coworker, I would restore it via iTunes. Restoring the iPod will erase all the music and files from your iPod and set it back to its default settings. That means, when he or she firsts goes to use it, it will just be like getting one of out of the box. Your co-worker will be able to go through the setup process and sync whatever and how he or she wishes.
Here are instructions on how to restore your iPod.
    [Restoring iPod to factory settings|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339]
As to the games, do you not have them in your iTunes library anymore? If they are still in your library, you can sync them to as many ipods that are connected with your computer are you wish. If not, where did they go? Did you fail to maintain a backup?
    Hope this helps.

  • New Nano shuts down???

My new Nano works well at times. Other times it shuts down when I start a new somg of podcast.
I have reset it to orininal several times. It helps for a while.
I took it back the the Apple stote and they replaced it.
The same thing happened out of the gate.
When I sybced it from factory settings it gave the message that the The iPod “David Eustice’s iPod” cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application.
    I

I no longer get the message “David Eustice’s iPod” cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application.
However sometimes, most of the time, when I attempt to play a tune or podcast the screen goes to the Apple icon and stops.
Not a very good situation and Apple does not help much.

  • New Nano, Can't Remove Songs

My new Nano synced everything in itunes, but there are some songs that I do not want on my nano. When I see my nano in the source pane, I can see a list of everything that is on my nano but I cannot click on anything and the list is "grayed-out" and disabled. Is there a way I can delete individual items, whether it be songs or podcasts, from my nano? How can I manage what is on my nano? I also have a shuffle and find itunes easier to use with the shuffle than with the nano.

*I can see a list of everything that is on my nano but I cannot click on anything and the list is "grayed-out" and disabled.*
Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to update automatically (sync). If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Itunes problems with new nano, purchased songs

Hello all. I am having a few problems with my itunes and newly purchased nano that hopefully you guys can give me some advice on. First of all, when i plug in my nano, it does not recognize it unless i close itunes and reopen it. Then, it takes a few minutes to open and acts like it is a new nano every time i open it. Meaning, it asks me to name the nano and asks me to apply all the settings etc. After that it works. I then can eject it. If I then re open itunes, with my nano not plugged in, itunes thinks that my nano is plugged in and says its corrupted. If i attempt to do anything in itunes, it freezes up.
In an unrelated problem, i am forced to authorize my computer to play my purchased songs every time i open itunes. It never remembers when I authorize it.
Thanks in advance for your help i definitely appreciate it!

OK, could not resist. I did go ahead and put my old run history back into the new & now restored Nano. No problems. Everything is fine. (Be remember, this is not something that is supported or approved by Apple or Nike.)
There may be no connection between adding the old run data files to the new Nano and the sound & freezing problems. Others have already complained about those.
However, what I will say is that you should never mess around with the Nike+ xml "Preferences" file or the "Best" file. These are invisible for a reason. You can put your old xml run data files into your "latest" folder and thus get them on your new Nano, but you CANNOT change your Totals on your new Nano no matter what you muck around with. However, if you try it and things go wrong, doing a "restore" should save the day.
And it should save the day for sound problems and recurring Nano freezes unless you have a defective Nano.

  • Recently Played and Added Not synching on new Nano 8gb

I am using iTunes 7 with a new nano 8gb. When I review my recently played and added smartlists in iTunes tey are correct, but after synching my nano the nano show some other very old list of songs. Any ideas?
I have trying both automatic and manula synchs
    HP   Windows XP

Did you try recreating the library. Removing the songs won't really help as you have already restored.
If you have already recreated the iTunes library file...
    Part 1:
    1. Navigate to \iPod_Control\iTunes on the iPod in Windows Explorer. You may have to turn on Show Hidden Files and folders. To do this, go to Tools-->Folder Options, click the view tab, click the bubble to show hidden files and folders, click Apply, and click OK. Look for the presence there of a file named iEKInfo. Is it there? If so, make a copy of this onto your computer somewhere. While there, make a copy of iTunesDB also. Don't delete these copies.
    2. Create a new, administrator user in Windows . (Start-->control panel-->user accounts-->create a new account)
    3. Log out of the current user.
    4. Log into the new user.
    5. Restore the iPod as documented in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983.
    6. Open iTunes.
    7. Set the Music sync preference in iTunes for the iPod to Manual mode.
    8. Download the free single of the week from the iTunes Music Store.
    9. Verify that the song plays in iTunes.
    10. Drag only this song to the iPod.
    11. Eject the iPod from iTunes.
    12. Disconnect the iPod from the computer.
    Does the song play?
If the iPod is able to play this song, follow these steps:
    Part 2:
    1. Log out of the new user.
    2. Log back into the original (affected) user.
    3. Reconnect the iPod to the computer.
    4. Drag some of the older purchased content (that would not play before) to the iPod.
    5. Eject the iPod from iTunes.
    6. Disconnect the iPod from the computer.
    Does the affected content play?
Is the iPod still having the same issue? Try these possible solutions:
    Part 3:
    * Delete the SC Info.sidb file as documented in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302386.
    * If the issue persists, recreate the iTunes Music Library as described in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313.
    Does the music play?
Please post back if this works or not.

  • Brand new nano, will not sync, still says do not disconnect

I have a brand new nano that does not seem to want to sync with my itunes. Each time I plug it in it asks me to name the iPod, which I do, then it says updating, do not disconnect. So once itunes is done updating the nano still says do not disconnect. So everytime I have to eject it properly and it never updates with the information from my itunes. It also has a bunch of orange space that it says is being used on the capacity bar and there is no information on the iPod. I have restored it back to factory settings and no luck... I have also taken it in to the Apple Genius Bar and they said it wad fixed and it wasn't so then they gave me a new one and it has the same problem...HELP!

  • New Nano not synching and keeps freezing

    Hi,
I just purchased the new Nano 4gb and have been having problems. First, i would like to mention that i was using an older nano on this computer before i got this new one. When i plug in the new nano i got a screen that says "Connected Eject Before Disconnecting". Sometimes it goes to this screen and sometimes it goes to regualr menu screen but neither connect to itunes. Im not sure if i should return this or not or if there is something i have to do with Itunes preferences. I hope someone can help. Thanks.

I have an iPod 4th Generation, after updating iTunes my iPod would no longer sync.  iTunes sees the device, the iPod window comes up.  WIth iPod connected and iTunes running Select Music, "Sync Music" box was not checked.  Apparently the new iTunes has this box not checked by default, not smart.
