Trouble ejecting

My CD/DVD rom drive has been having problems lately with ejecting. It seems to start having troubles in windows, so I restart in OSX and it does the same thing for a while, but then finally it will eject. After that it's fine as long as I stay in OSX. I went back to windows and used the eject option from the menu and it worked fine. I'm trying to install a game that is spread across 4 discs so that is where the problem originated.
Anyone else having this trouble? Thanks.

The problem quit by itself. Gotta love when it does that!

  • Trouble ejecting cds - tries to reload!!

    Hi
Please help, a couple of weeks ago i noticed my macbook had trouble taking cds so i had to 'push' them in more. When i try to eject it will make a clunking noise and will try to reload the cd!! i took it to an apple store who say that its not the cd drive and something else which was caused by physical damage or pressure. i have not dropped my macbook or anything - its in mint condition and now apple are saying that this repair will be charged because my warranty does not cover physical damage!
Has anyone else had this problem?
Any suggestions would be great, thanks

    Hi Ruth,
I don't think your need to update your firmware because I don't believe there have been any releases for the iBook G4. You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #106692 on Troubleshooting installation and software updates in case that caused the problem. Are these burned discs? Make sure that there are no applications open that may be using the disc. Next time this happens, go to Utilities > Console > Logs > system.log and look for any repeating messages. I don't know if this will help with your optical drive, but you may want to verify and repair permissions (Knowledge Base Document #106712 on Troubleshooting permissions issues in Mac OS X).

  • Having trouble ejecting Ipod due to error message?

After loading songs on my Ipod and it tells me it is safe to disconnect, I proceed to click on the "eject" option and I always get the following error message: "The Ipod 'administrat' cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
When I attempt to press "play" on the Ipod the lights blink amber and green back and forth and no music can be heard. Also, I noticed when the Ipod is plugged into the USB slot on the computer an amber light blinks.
Anyone recognize what is going wrong and offer suggestions? Thanks!

I temporarily disabled Avast anti virus and the Windows Defender anti spyware programs and still got the same error message. I also spent considerable time looking into these two programs' preferences and was unable to see any specific mention of Itunes.

  • LaCie hd having trouble ejecting

    Hello one and all,
I've been experiencing a rather strange problem when using my LaCie external hard drive in iMovie 6 HD.
After importing footage into iM6 I then go to save the project and get the following message : "The project could not be saved. The disk might be full or locked, or you might not have permission to save in the current location".
There is PLENTY of space on the hd, it is not locked and I do have permission to save in this location.
I click OK, close the window - don't save the project.  Then I eject the LaCie and shut it down.  I then re-boot the hd and the project is indeed there.
I do some work on the project and go to save, receive the same message as above and go through the same procedures.
Then I try to eject the hd again and I get a message saying the drive is in use and is unable to be ejected.  I then have to do a force eject using this command in terminal: hdiutil eject -force /Volumes/LaCie.
It's a bit of a puzzler. Be grateful if anyone can shed some light on it for me.
    Regards

    A bit of a puzzler!
I don't often recommend this, but you could post the same question on the iMovie forum as well:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie
But first check how the LaCie has been formatted - it has to be Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • Trouble ejecting iPod in Win2000

    Hi all,
I have a small issue with an iPod 5th Gen Video in Windows 2000. Each time I try to eject / unmount the iPod, it is ejected, then it re-mounts immediately; so I cannot disconnect the cable because the iPod is always in use.
    Same issue happens when
    - ejecting iPod from iTunes (both eject buttons at the bottom or in the source list);
    - ejecting iPod from USB Device Manager; when I click on "Eject", the iPod unmounts then mounts back immediately;
    - ejecting the iPod in Explorer (Right-clic, then "Eject").
So far to avoid any problem, I just disconnect the iPod after I shut down the computer. But I would like to know if there is a way to fix this.
    More info:
    - no error message at any time. The iPod can be ejected correctly, but it mounts back in Explorer and iTunes immedialtely after it was ejected. On iPod, menu appears for approx. 1 second, then the display goes back to "Do not disconnect"
    - iTunes 7.0.2.16
    - Windows 2000 (5.00.2195) SP4
    - iPod connected at the back USB port of my computer
    - USB 2.0 on motherboard MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590)
    - iPod software 1.2.1
    - Model MA003FB - Format: Windows
    Already tried:
    - reinstall iTunes -> same problem
    - reset iPod -> same problem
    - restored iPod -> did not help
    - connected iPod in another admin user -> same problem
    - tried on another USB port -> same issue
What I don't understand : I also have an iPod Mini (2nd Gen), which is working perfectly fine. With this, the eject process is OK.
    Any other idea ?
Thanks in advance for your replies,
    Phil
    MA003FB   Windows 2000

    Additional info :
    1. Same iPod 5th Gen (Model MA003FB - Format: Windows) behave perfectly at eject on a Mac OS X system.
    2. iPod is set for manually sync because library too big for an auto sync.

  • Trouble ejecting DVDs (on an external player)

Hello, just got my new 27" iMac.  When I plugged in the old external drive I used to use on my last iMac (24" 2009 model) it worked fine.  However everytime I try to eject a dvd (either by dragging the icon into the trash or pressing the physical eject button on the player itself) I'm told that it can't be ejected because the disc is still in use.  By the way, I've made sure to close DVD Player before hand.
The only way to eject discs is either to reboot the computer or physically unplug the player and then use the physical button to eject it before DVD Player registers it and starts to play the disc.
Obviously this is a pain to do every time.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I am having the same issue with my samsung player (SE-208DB TS01)..
Have you found a solution? This issue is so frustrating and I can't seem to find any solution..
I found both the program and the BIN file here:
    https://tsstodd.com/eng/firmware/fwdownload/?functionvalue=list&product=SDWE&mod el=SE-208DB&searchText=&pTop=150&mTop=0&tabIdx=1
But it doesn't seem to be working (the status is still on 'downloading' but not moving..)
    Thanks,

  • Trouble ejecting USB Thumbdrive

I'm having a issue ejecting a USB thumbdrive (Namely a SanDisk Cruzer... I'm not sure if other thumbdrives have the same problem or not.)
When I try to eject the drive, it says the drive is in use. I try a second time (right away, with out clicking anything else), and it works! All my programs are off, and nothing (AFAIK) is using it.
This used to never happen when I had Leopard installed. Then I downgraded to Tiger, and the issue started, and then I upgraded (a clean install, not exactly a update) and the issue is still there.
I have iBook G4, with 1.25 GB ram.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

You can learn what's "using" a file on your thumb drive with a command in the Terminal utility. Supposing your thumb drive volume name is "George", launch the Terminal utility, drag the Terminal window to be rather wide, and enter this command, followed by a "return":
    sudo lsof | grep George
(Spaces doubled for readibility. That's a lower-case letter "L" in the second "word" of the command. That's a "shift-backslash" after "lsof". Case is critical.)
You'll be prompted for your administrative password. In the output the first "word" on a line (ignoring line wrapping) will be the name of the process that has the file open. The last thing on the line will be the file that's open.

  • Trouble ejecting new nano 4?

After "ipod sync is complete" I try to eject nano from iTunes and I get this message: "could not be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application.
When I try to eject from desktop I get this message:..."ipod is in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting applications and try again."
I have quit all other applications, even iTunes. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Yes, Virus Barrier X5.
This problem is only happening on my 4th gen. nano. I have an 3rd gen. nano and I never received any error messages or "can't eject".
    Thanks

  • Trouble ejecting the ipod from itunes

Just got my ipod 80gb and i connect, update, sync and all that jazz, but when the time comes to eject my ipod it says that files on the ipod are being used by another program; close all programs and try again, same thing, but sometimes it ejects and it looks fine, but if you leave it in there for over 5 seconds it reconects and then the "files used by another program" popup comes up
Any suggestions? it worked fine with my old ipod and i don't have any new programs running

Usually when this happens, there is a conflict between the ipod and some other program on the computer. Here is a link to an article on the apple support website for troubleshooting conflicts on windows computers.

  • Trouble "ejecting" iPod

    Hi.
I have a 4th Generation iPod 20GB with color display.
Lately, I've had problems "ejecting" the iPod from iTunes. I also use my iPod as a portable drive, but I don't have any documents or files open or anything in the Trash waiting to be deleted. I haven't imported any tracks into the iTunes Library. I'm perplexed.
Sometimes I have to quit iTunes (with my iPod still attached) and restart it and it'll work (ejecting). Sometimes it doesn't, and I'll have to Relaunch the Finder before it'll eject.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?
The only thing I can attribute it to is the latest iPod update- which didn't affect my iPod, but was useful for my girlfriend's shuffle. Could there be some incompatibilities?
    OS 10.3.9, iTunes 6.0.1
    iPod Firmware 1.62
Thanks in advance for any help.

Once again, genius that I am, I posted in the wrong area again.

  • Trouble ejecting flash drives with Snow Leopard

About every other time I try to eject my flash drive from my MacBook it freezes up the computer. My wife has the same problem on her computer. Is there anyone else that is having this problem and what can I do to fix it? Thanks!

Try resetting some of the hardware involved (PRAM~NVRAM). See this Apple KB for details, etc.:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Can't hurt to try, and apparently this has helped others recently.
Also, try reformatting that flash drive using Disk Utility w/Snow Leopard...windows format only.

  • IPod cannot be updated/restored/ejected--files in use by another app

Since I downloaded iTunes7, I cannot update, restore, or eject my iPod from iTunes. I get the error "<iPod name> cannot be updated(restored, ejected) because it contains files in use by another application." I'm still able to sync music and tv shows with the old iPod software, but not movies. I eject it using the Safely Remove Hardware icon in my system tray, or from My Computer. I've tried disabling security programs and peripherals, and even sifting through the processes in Task Manager. I had no trouble ejecting prior to iTunes 7/7.0.1.
And yes, I've done the R's I'm able to do (Restore is not an option due to the nature of the error).

    Hi again, Corey!
In regard to "recovery mode" message, you'll most likely just need to restore your iPod. For more details, read here -> Restoring your iPod
If this message persists after restoring your iPod, try assigning your iPod a different drive letter; see these steps below:
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod with network device / Changing drive letter
    I hope this helps you!

  • Time machine disk not ejecting

I'm having trouble ejecting my Time Machine disk from my mid-2012 retina MBP since installing Yosemite.  If I control-click on the disk image and select EJECT, the image grays out a little but won't eject.  If I try to start Disk Utility, it hangs and won't start.  However, if I first start Disk Utility and then select the Time machine drive and select Unmount followed by Eject, the disk will eject.
Anybody else having this problem?  I don't recall having this issue with earlier versions of OS X.

Well, nobody replied but I'll post what solved the problem:  installing an app called "Mountain."  I also noticed that a recent Yosemite update including a fix for Time Machine problems but I don't know if it address this problem.  In any event, since installing Mountain, I never have a problem ejecting discs.
