Trouble emailing pages doc.

Anyone else having troubles emailing a pages doc? I tried Apple mail, gmail, and yahoo.

I bumped into this, too and did some more testing. It turns out that if you open a Terminal.app window and use the UNIX 'tar' command to create a "gzipped tar file" (i.e. .tgz), the Pages file will travel through gmail just fine. This suggests that gmail is opening zip files and inspecting the insides.
Recipients of a .tgz file can just double-click them to turn them back into the Pages document.

  • Trouble emailing pages document

I'm using pages/08 and I'm having trouble emailing documents as attachments. They're small files - like one page of text only, and I've had trouble with this in the past. I generally end up not using pages and going back to appleworks and emailing as a pdf that way. Does anyone know anything about why it's so problematic to email from iwork?
    Thank you.
    Bob

A Pages document is actually a package, a special kind of folder that appears as a single file, but isn't. You can't e-mail a folder which is why many mail clients balk. Apple Mail will automatically zip a folder, other e-mail clients don't, especially web-based e-mail. In the Finder, Control- or right-click on the Pages document & choose Create Archive… (Tiger) or Compress… (Leopard) from the contextual menu. You will now have a zipped Pages document that you can attach to your e-mail & send.

  • Cannot email pages doc as pages doc

I created a file using Pages 2 on my PowerPC MacMini running Tiger 10.4.7 then emailed myself the file using Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 from home to office where it landed on my PowerPC PowerBook running Tiger 10.4.7 and the same version of Thunderbird but it could not be opened.
The File Permissions said I could read and write to it. When I made a.pdf, .txt and .doc files from the .pages original and sent them to the laptop they could all be read by their respective files (Preview, TextEdit and OpenOffice).
Why is it only the .pages file that cannot be read by the PowerBook? Where do I need to look for problems? What can it be?
    Please help!
    TIA
    Mac

    Hi Gerry,
I think we're getting somewhere at last! I right clicked on another .pages file on my laptop (that was created and emailed in exactly the same way 8 weeks ago) and low and behold, I had an option to view package contents. This file was also 1.4Mb in size.
I then went and looked at the problem file and this had no package contents, and only took up 4kb of space on the HDD.
What I need to do now is to find out how to save a pages file, and then just send it as an attachment. I know your workaround (and will try it later) but it does sound rather laboured and clunky - which is not at all a criticism of you (unless you designed Pages of course! :-)) but more a comment about something that clearly needs Apple's attention.
I really should be able to just email .pages files without all this hassle, just as I used to be able to not so long ago. Why it has changed is a mystery to me. Perhaps the Tiger security upgrade broke it?

  • Emailing .pages docs possible again?

    Hi guys,
It seems gmail and other email providers are still rejecting the most recent .pages attachments (they seem to think they're viruses, or some such)? This coincided with Mavericks, and I've submitted a bug report, but it's getting a bit old now...
Anyone know of a fix, or workaround yet?
    Cheers.

I agree with Peter. Perpetual beta.
If you have Gmail configured through Apple Mail, it will work fine. If you use the Gmail web interface, you will need to first compress your .pages document, before adding it as a Mail attachment. I have tested both of these approaches.
Right-click on your Pages v5 .pages document. Choose Compress ... from the contextual menu. Apple Mail, whether on IOS or Mac OS X will understand it has received a compressed file. The Quick Look feature in OS X Mail, will offer to decompress the document, allowing you to view it, save it, or open again in Pages v5. As an attachment in IOS 7 Mail, you tap it, and it will automatically decompress and open in Pages v2.1.

  • ICloud,Pages docs not showing up on IOS pages on iPad mini can anyone help

    Hello,
I'm having trouble seeing Pages docs I create on my iMac and saved to iCloud on my iPad mini version of Pages.  Can any one help?

Are both devices using the same iCloud account, is document and data syncing turned on on each.
Does other content sync OK, do you see your documents at iCloud.com.

  • Emailing individual Pages from a Pages doc?

I am mebership secretary of an organisation. Next month I have to send individual invoices to over 100 members. to create personalised invoces, I set up the invoice in Pages and then used Numbers to merge individual members' names, addresses, etc into this document.
Last year I was working on a PC and with Word and Excel and there was an option to email individual pages from the Word doc. It was easy and quick to send out all the invoices.
However, in Pages, it only offers merge to a new document or to the printer. Even if there was a was a way of being able to quickly separate each page (ie individual invoice) from the one Pages doc, I could individually send the emails, but it looks as if separating the pages will be long and laborious.
It has to be easy and straightforward - ie not using Apple script (if at all possible), as whoever takes over this role from me - and who may not be so computer savvy, will need to be able to do this job easily.
    Grateful for any suggestions.

    s,
Go ahead and Print the Pages document to PDF > Open in Preview.
Make sure that you are viewing the thumbnails in the Sidebar.
    1. Click on a page thumbnail in the Sidebar of the PDF document, visually confirm the content, Command-C to Copy.
    2. File > New From Clipboard
    3. File > Mail Document.
Repeat steps 1-3 for each page you wish to mail.

  • Unable to email Pages 5.0 doc with track changes

In Safari, when trying to attach a Pages doc (Pages 5.0 in Mavericks) with track changes in gmail I get an "Attachment failed" error. In Chrome, I'm able to attach and send the file, but the person I've sent it to is unable to open it. Is anyone experiencing anything similar and/or has discovered a fix?
    Thanks!

No, they get an error when they try to open it, and they do have the same version of Pages. Yes, I did end up having to export it as a temporary solution, and I don't think the track changes stayed. I was wondering if not being able to send Pages files with track changes is a common issue with Pages 5.0. If you try emailing a Pages 5.0 file with track changes, are the recipients able to open it with track changes in Pages?

  • Pages docs emailed corrupt?

I've been using Pages on my ipad to create invoices and reports that I then email as a PDF. My clients keep saying that they can't open the files because they're corrupted. I'm seriously frustrated and not sure what to do. Sometimes I can email the doc to myself and forward it to the clients - but sometimes that doesn't work either.
    Help?

Go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and make sure Documents & Data is set to on, and that Pages is set to on.  Then go to Settings>Pages and make sure Pages is turned on.
If they are turned on, try turning them off, then back on.

  • Emailing word doc saved from pages

created a resume in pages and saved as a word doc. the formatting is on 2 pgs when i view the word doc on my Mac, but when i email the doc as an attachment, the formatting changes to 3 pgs. any advice on how to ensure it remains on only 2 pages?
    thanks

Save and mail it as a PDF. There frequently are small, but consequential, changes when converted to Word.

  • How do I save a page doc in word (so I can attach it to an email and send it)

I'm a poet who has to submit my poems via submission managers at literary journals.  Most journals need these attached in a Word doc or Rtf file...but I can't figure out how to covert an existing page doc poem to a word doc so I can do this.
Also, is it possible in pages to "save" a pages file as rtf? how?

    thank you Tom...
I did try this...  am still a little confused.   "share" doesn't work ...I get a message that IWORK is discontinued.
Also, after I go to export and click on "Word"  and click on export again....where does the resulting file go to get stored?  Is it on my computer then (on the desktop if I say that's where it goes?)...so that when attaching it to the submissions manager I would hit "browse" and find it on the computer/desktop and then hit attach?   I'm not even sure I'm explaining this right.

  • Just upgraded to OSX Maverick/Pages 5.0.  Hyperlinking Pages docs together functionality seems to have been removed. Pls confirm. (You can still define text as a hyperlink to a web page or an email address but all links to other Pages docs were removed :(

Has anyone found a way of hyperlinking Pages 5.0 docs on Maverick?  Made extensive use of hyperlinking many Pages docs together.  On opening my Pages docs in Pages 5.0, get advisory dialogue box stating 'Spotlight data has been removed' and the doc opens fine, but the 'upgrade' file transformation has apparently removed a whole lot more.  Will have to migrate all my data to another app if this is no longer possible.  Painful. Time consuming.  Hoping there is a solution/patch available shortly.

And there are those who don't like me repeating the same message over and over again in this forum!
Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after Exporting your files to Pages '09, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Has anyone solved the problem of sending Pages docs to Windows machines?

I am trying to create a business newsletter that can be emailed to anyone who wants it. I'm working with OS X 10.4.10 and Pages. My business partner, who works on a PC, can't read a Pages doc, so I converted it to a pdf, and Windows won't read that, either. So I exported it as a Word doc, and he can read that, except the colors aren't true. What kind of a program creates files that pdf readers can't view? And why did I spend my money on Pages if it can't create a file everyone can read?

Strange, I've been emailing PDFs with no problems at all.
I am the only MAC-MAN in the office so all my work goes to 100% PC "market".
A wild guess - are you using Apple Mail app? If so, make sure the "Send Windows friendly attachments" is selected.
    Do not encrypt the PDFs.
Do not include EPS graphics (just in case...)
JPEGs rather than TIFFs (dunno why, but better safe...)
And most importantly, make sure the end users have the latest Acrobat Reader!!!
You would be surprised to find how many "incompatibilities" boil down to obsolete software being used.
To give you an example, I did an internal use web page using a FLASH animation, and several users sent me VERY ANGRY emails that the "MAC crap" doesn't work on their computers, well, guess what, for security (MS-security, not REAL security) FLASH was disabled on the network computers, nuf'said!
    Failing all above, send HTML.
Hope you solve the problem. Keep us posted.

  • MBP Pro doesn't recognize Pages docs from iPad, vice versa

Beacuse I'd like to be able to experience the wonderful seamlessness of the new cloud with Mountain Lion, I downloaded Mountain Lion onto my MacBook Pro, as well as the Pages app (I previously had Pages '09), in addition to downloaded the Pages app for iOS (iPad 2 and iPhone 4S).
I thought that in theory, I could start a document on the iPad/Phone and it woudl appear on the MBP, as well, as vice versa. That has not happened. Specifically, I was taking notes last week on the iPad and when it didn't pop up on my MBP or the Cloud on the MBP, i email the document as Pages document to myslef and thought I could just open it on the MBP then and it'd appear as a new Pages doc there. Well, when i downloaded the Pages doc from the iPad onto the MBP, I got a message saying The open XML file could not be opened because there are problemns with it, and The file is corrupt and cannot be opened. How can it be corrupt? I just created it a few days ago on the iPad? Also, when i follow prompts to open the document, the message box is a Word one? Why is Word then stepping in to try to open it? Shouldn't an Apple app on one machine recognize a document made on an Apple app on another device? I should point out this has happened everytime I've tried to share documents on my mac devices via Pages.
Also, kind of related, when i go to the options of what to do with the file on the iPad, i get the option to use iwork -- but of course there is no iWork anymore. So why hasn't this option beeen updated? Why not just a 'save to cloud' option? And what's this 'send to itunes' option? I selected that for one document and of course that didn't work, either.
    Thanks so much.

You do need to turn on iCloud syncing on the iOS devices as it is not on by default. Go to Settings & scroll way down to the apps area & tap on Pages & turn iCloud syncing on. The same applies to your Macs, go to System Preferences > iCloud & check Documents & Data. Of course, you must have a iCloud account.

  • Cant get my pages docs that I created on my iPad (new version of pages) to open on my MAC.  Reads: "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document.". But I have the latest!

Help - I cant get the docs I created in pages on my ipad to open on my MAC. I've used iCloud, emailed to myself - all I get is "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document.".  But my MAC has the newer version!

I have Pages for iOS 2.0.1 on my iPad and Pages '09 (4.3) on my Macbook Pro.
I haven't upgraded anything in the past few months. Still on OS 10.8.5.
    Suddenly, something has changed.
If I open a new Pages doc on my iPad and later try to open it on my Mac, I get the error message saying I need a newer version of Pages.
Also, if I open an existing doc on the iPad (one that I've worked on repeatedly from both devices) I get the same message. A couple did open, but only if I hadn't touched them on the iPad. Anything opened today on the iPad won't open on the Mac.
I can open and edit these docs in the Pages beta at www.icloud.com but not on my Mac.
I don't want Mavericks and a new version of Pages now (I'm in the middle of a major project and have learned not to make major upgrades until major things are finished).
For now, the best I can do is open docs in iCloud, copy all, and paste into a new Word doc. Yes, back to Word. Thought I was finished with Microsoft.
    Is there a better solution?
