Trouble exporting a ProRes Sequence

Hi. I'm running Premiere CC on a MacBookPro and I recently exported a ProRes_422 at 24fps sequence as an Mp4 for streaming purposes. The resulting file has a kind of hesitation, or choppiness every few seconds. Can you tell me why this happened? I'd also really appreciate the best export settings to prepare ProRes for streaming.
Much thanks,
Stephen

Thanks Jim. That did it, though I am still seeing a little hesitation on the Quicktime, but minor compared to what it was.

  • Best format the export ProRes sequence out of FCP (gave up on h264...)

    Hi everyon,
I finally finished this 10 min long video in FCP in ProRes LT. (1080*1920, 30p)
I exported a self contained quicktime movie (7.5 gig) with the current settings (hence ProRes LT).
    Now things are getting complicated...
I am trying to deliver this Vid to a friend, I have tried h264 but the color shifting and desaturation is fairly noticeable. I know this problem has been around for a long time. I tweaked the settings of brightness... gamma,,, saturation... to no avail. I decided to give up on h264.
What can I do now? Is there a format/Codec that I can use that will faithfully render the same colors as I had in my FCP prores sequence?
    Thanks a bunch!!!!
    Cheers.

H.264 will, you just need to give it enough bandwidth to do the job.
All the web trailers on the net are H.264, and somehow they manage to look great. Blu-Ray too...
You didn't say anything about your sizing, bandwidth, etc.

  • Prores sequence export issue

i have a prores sequence finished and rendered. it is 90 minutes. i exported the sequence and the file size came out to 105 GB! which is unmanagable.  what is the best way to export. i want 1. a small size file to email to my client. 2. another one to put on DVD

Plan ahead for the compression stage of the workflow?
Do you have Compressor set up as a virtual cluster? That will speed up the Compression time.
    http://paperrockpictures.com/2011/05/26/setting-up-a-virtual-cluster-to-speed-up -compressor/
Unless you want to switch edit platforms to FCP-X or Adobe Premier Pro which will edit the files from the 5D natively without conversion, and their subsequent workflows, you are using the best method.
Having the high-quality Pro Res master allows you to make high quality deliverables in the formats needed.

  • Trouble exporting 320x240 from 720x480 sequence using QT conversion

(Opps, put this on the FCP Express discussion 1st...)
    Hi,
Everytime I try to export a 720x480 sequence from FCP with "using QT Conversion" to a 320x240 size, it exports out as 640x480. Everytime. Used to work just fine. Same thing happens using a compressor setting to 320x240 and exporting right from the QT export size setting. Anyone know what gives? I tried trashing prefs in both FCP and QT. No luck.
    Thanks!

This is the first time I've heard of this problem so no real basis to go on. Try the QT prefs delete again and if not that, then the QT reinstall.
To do a full quicktime reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
    Good luck.

  • I am having trouble exporting closed captions from premiere cc 2014.

I am having trouble exporting closed captions from premiere cc 2014. I see them in the program monitor but after i export and try to playback in either quicktime or VLC i get to embedded captions. I eve tried the side car file and embedded with compressor and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
I only used compressor because i switched from final cut to adobe. easy fellas!

I have latest QT version, do i need to go back to 7? I have tried VLC also, i usually use that to check CC in mpeg files. I am exporting a QT H.264 for just testing purposes, I need a prores HQ, also this is SD so my sequences are set to 720x486.

  • Oracle 10g - Data Pump: Export / Import of Sequences ?

    Hello,
I'm new to this forum and also to Oracle (Version 10g). Since I could not find an answer to my question, I open this post in hoping to get some help from the experienced users.
My question concerns the Data Pump Utility and what happens to sequences which were defined in the source database:
I have exported a schema with the following command:
    "expdp <user>/<pass> DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP_DIR DUMPFILE=dumpfile.dmp LOGFILE=logfile.log"
This worked fine and also the import seemed to work fine with the command:
    "impdp <user>/<pass> DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP_DIR DUMPFILE=dumpfile.dmp"
It loaded the exported objects directly into the schema of the target database.
    BUT:
Something has happened to my sequences. :-(
When I want to use them, all sequences start again with value "1". Since I have already included data with higher values in my tables, I get into trouble with the PK of these tables because I used sequences sometimes as primary key.
My question go in direction to:
    1. Did I something wrong with Data Pump Utility?
    2. How is the correct way to export and import sequences that they keep their actual values?
    3. When the behaviour described here is correct, how can I correct the values that start again from the last value that was used in the source database?
Thanks a lot in advance for any help concerning this topic!
    Best regards
    FireFighter
    P.S.
It might be that my english sounds not perfect since it is not my native language. Sorry for that! ;-)
But I hope that someone can understand nevertheless. ;-)

My question go in direction to:
    1. Did I something wrong with Data Pump Utility?I do not think so. But may be with the existing schema :-(
    2. How is the correct way to export and import
sequences that they keep their actual values? If the Sequences exist in the target before the import, oracle does not drop and recreate it. So you need to ensure that the sequences do not already exist in the target or the existing ones are dropped before the import.
    3. When the behaviour described here is correct, how
can I correct the values that start again from the
last value that was used in the source database? You can either refresh with the import after the above correction or drop and manually recreate the sequences to START WITH the NEXT VALUE of the source sequences.
The easier way is to generate a script from the source if you know how to do it

  • Trouble exporting to DVDSP from FCP5

I'm having trouble exporting my sequence into DVDSP4. I've tried using Quicktime Conversion and Quicktime but the sequence doesn't import into DVDSP and neither do the menue templattes. When I attempt to convert to Quicktime a message pops up with "data needs to be rendered first," although the red render bar isn't there. It's just grey in the bar area. What is going on here. • Trouble exporting to MPEG-2

Hi, I am having a lot of trouble exporting from FCP 4.5 to MPEG-2 for DVD Studio Pro. When I export a video, sometimes it looks as if it worked but sometimes the program unexpectedly quits. When it looks like it worked I try importing the file into DVD studio pro, but when I preview it, the bottom half of the screen is green, and this usually causes DVD Studio Pro to unexpectedly quit. I have tried exporting it as a quicktime movie to DVD studio pro and have it convert it while its burning the DVD, but that ends in the video having lots of artifacts and the green problem. If anyone has any suggestions it would be extremely helpful. Thanks. By the way, I have repaired permissions and trashed the preferences files of both programs.

    Try this workflow:
    - From FCP export your timeline as Quicktime Movie, self contained and same settings as your sequence.
    - Take that movie into Compressor, select a MPEG2 preset that match your project lenght (I didn't find such information in your posts) and Dolby AC3 for your audio.
    - Import those encoded files (MPEG2 and AC3) into DVDSP.
    Post the results.

  • Trouble Exporting MXF from PP Cs6

    Hello,
I am having a lot of trouble exporting a sequence of mxf footage out of premiere pro cs6. Whenever I try to export directly from Premiere the program stalls out. I tried sending it to adobe media encoder, which worked temporarily. Now, the sequence doesn't show up in adobe media encoder. I then tried sending turning the sequence into an AE composition, which again worked seamlessly temporarily. I am working with multi-clip sequences and last night I noticed that when I turn my sequence into an AE comp, after effects began referencing the wrong angle. After Effects also began giving me error messages saying that it was having trouble conforming some of the mxf files. Any insight into how I can fix this would be most helpful. I am working on a Mac Pro Ghz-6 Core Intel Xeon.
    Thanks!

What exactly do you mean by "multi-clip sequences." Multicam?
If so, try dropping the same source content into a sequence without any multicam edits and see if that exports. That will help determine if the problem is limited to multicam sequences.
Have you tried closing all the apps, confirming through Activity Monitor that all the processes shut down (including pproheadless and dynamiclinkmanager), and then relaunching the apps? Or simply rebooting the system. This feels a bit like a problem where the initial failure to export left things in a bad state, so that you need to clear the decks.
What are your export settings? Do you have similar problems exporting to other formats?
And just to confirm the reference in the thread's title, you're running PPRO CS6, not CC, right?

  • Odd ProRes sequence set-up behavior in Premiere Pro CC

When I create a new sequence by dragging a ProRes HQ file onto New Item icon, it creates a DNxHD sequence.  My ProRes HQ footage is captured by the Blackmagic Shuttle2 recorder, and MediaInfo verifies it is ProRes.  Yet the sequence settings in Premiere Pro CC show:
    Editing Mode:  DNX 145 1080i
    Video Previews box:
    Preview File Format: DNX 145 1080i 59.94
    Codec:  DNxHD
I am on a Mac with Quicktime 7 installed.  There is no problem ingesting and importing the ProRes HQ camera video files into Premiere Pro.  I am just not seeing a ProRes sequence being created.  Is there something else I should test for?
    Thanks.

    No, sadly.
I went into great deal about it here:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5457995#5457995 , and here :http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/3/942978 ; it seems to be a 'well known' bug?
I can work around the sequence not matching the clip properties, but I want the export settings to match the clip properties (which is why I wanted the sequence settings to match the clip properties; because then I can do an export using sequence settings).  I can't do that now unless I do it manually....anyway, see my first link above for the details.
    Thanks!

  • Export uncompressed targa sequence

I work in a television station using Final Cut and LiveType to make graphics. Our clip server imports image sequences, but can only recognize uncompressed targa files. Exporting as a targa sequence from either program applies some sort of compression to the images. Currently we use GraphicConverter or Photoshop to do a batch convert to uncompress, but it would be handier to be able to export directly uncompressed. Is this possible? Alternatively, is there a 3rd party utility that can convert a DV movie to an uncompressed targa sequence. We have Cleaner, but it uses the same compression as Quicktime.
    Thanks.

Thanks John. I get codecs and how they work (I've been making film and commercials for broadcast and cinema for over 10 years) what I find confusing is that apple have removed the choice to render / export with no codec at all - 'none'. We shot a film on Sony F3 with S-Log using an Aja Ki Pro to record directly to an external drive as ProRes 422, there's a weird problem with s-log and prores where the white highlights are clipped but the information is still in the file, because we recorded prores the only way to fix this problem is to apply 3way color correction in FCP (because prores is native to fcp) and bring the highlights down to 99IRE. We are adding CG set extension etc to a few shots so VFX dept are looking for 16bit tiff sequences so that there is no colour loss on their clips so everything will composite together properly in Nuke before online and grade. The only way to do this is to apply the colour correction in FCP, render as uncompressed 'none' then bring the uncompressed file into AE and export the tiff sequences. That way there is no loss of colour information or how the a codec will interpret colour. I've had to export with 'none' hundreds to times but with Lion that option has vanished. It's still there on Snow Leopard, which is what I have to use, but it's gone from Lion. Which is weird, no? Maybe Apple want to force us to use one of their codecs

  • Trouble exporting with QuickTime 7 to UNCOMPRESSED 10-bit 4:2:2

I have succeeded with shorter videos, but my 90 minute video returns "error -2125".
Somehow I managed to do this before, I'm not sure what has changed on my system. Does anyone else have trouble exporting to Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 ? I'm now exporting to ProRes instead, but would prefer uncompressed video for the sake of quality.

You don't say what's the source of your clips.
If standard DV (..though I doubt that an agency would accept standard def video any more..) NTSC DV is compressed in the camera as 4:1:1, and PAL DV is compressed as 4:2:0 ..so you won't get true 4:2:2 from normal DV, unless you're using a broadcast camera (..probably feeding into the capture device via SDI inputs).
If the source was tape-based HDV or any other hi-def source, then iMovie converts that, during import, into Apple Intermediate Codec, and wouldn't be able to output proper Uncompressed 4:2:2 material.
For Uncompressed 4:2:2, I think you'll need to be using a dedicated capture card - and massive-capacity hard discs! - to be able to import the material in the first place.
iMovie certainly isn't the program to handle pro video of this nature.
Ask in the Final Cut Pro Discussions..
"..I've also tried doing this on my Macbook with Intel processor.." ..but maybe that's just not fast enough (older Mac portables have "shared graphics memory" ..meaning their graphics processor may have to compete with the main processor to temporarily grab free RAM)!

  • Editing XDCam sequence into an Apple ProRes sequence

When I copy a XDCam sequence and inert it into an Apple ProRes sequence it plays out of sync. Why?

No, you're absolutely correct to use HQ. Just checking.
The Red footage is has 4:4:4 subsampling, so HQ's the way to go.
If you generally use Recompress All Frames on Export then you probably know that it's pointless to render your timeline before an Export, since your Render files won't be accessed. Unless you need to work in that same sequence with the timecode - but, you could just use your exported master for that.
I know the recompress all frames option is probably overkill for a sequence with only one effect, but I'm also thinking about drive space. With those huge Red files, your render files have to be eating up quite a lot of it.
So, I'm suggesting that you don't need to render this sequence before exporting. Just export the unrendered sequence with Recompress All Frames. That saves you the space the render files would be taking up.

Often these are represented as "drive OK" or "drive fail" respectively. A "threshold exceeded" value is intended to indicate that there is a relatively high probability that the drive will not be able to honor its specification in the future: that is, the drive is "about to fail". The predicted failure may be catastrophic or may be something as subtle as the inability to write to certain sectors, or perhaps slower performance than the manufacturer's declared minimum."

I am getting very strange results when exporting to ProRes from Shake (Just "snow" on all frames). Export to uncompressed, DV etc works fine. Is there something I can do to fix this? Exporting to ProRes from FCP works fine.

Which revision of Shake are you running? I do recall getting this problem at one point and solving it with a Bytes node - but now running 4.1, I no longer get this error...
