Trouble Exporting Google Sketchup Animations from iMovie

I am having trouble with animations and imovie. I have successfully exported about 5 animations from Sketchup to imovie. Everything works fine until I try to export the imovie video. When I open my exported imovie video in quicktime or any other program, my animations are replaced by other pictures already in the movie. Basically, I am having trouble exporting Sketchup animations from imovie.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Unfortunately imovie has issues with animation (shouldn't have but does). Try converting your animations to another editable format (DV, AIC, MJPEG) before importing them into imovie.

Best settings for exporting crisp video/graphic from iMovie to YouTube?

Hi, I am working on a video for a client and after viewing on YouTube they had some issues with the type not looking "crisp," and I'm not sure how to fix it, not sure if it's a YouTube thing or something I am doing wrong.
I am working in iMovie 6/HD on OS 10.4.11. I do my "type slides" in Photoshop and import them into the iMovie as photos (JPGs). I know some text/titles can be done in iMovie but there is very little control I have over what goes where, so by making my type slides in Photoshop I have more creative control to do what I want. I have done tests and it doesn't seem to matter what resolution the Photoshop files are when they're imported, the results are always the same.
If anyone has a better suggestion for doing the type slides I'd gladly welcome them, but I think what I really need to know is the following:
What are the best expert settings to export my iMovie file as, so that when I upload to YouTube, the quality stays fairly crisp? Or does YouTube's compression just negate anything I can do on my end?
I have googled and found settings recs on other sites and other boards and tried a bunch of them and my results aren't any better than my original effort.
From another post on this board I discovered I could play with the Filters setting when exporting, and I have set that to Sharpen and also used the Brightness filter to lighten the video (it was a little dark). I uploaded to YouTube and I think it is a little better, but would still love the info if anyone has a guaranteed rec for correct settings for YouTube video from iMovie HD/6.

Have you tried de-interlacing before exporting?
Sometimes, when I'm in a rush, I would expand the Canvas/Viewer (viewed at 100%), pick the clearest frame, and do a screen capture.
For example, with the captured image (in Photoshop), I have a marquee preset at 640x480 (NTSC). I created an action to crop, resize to 720x480, then set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC.

Exporting my HD video from iMovie to be used in Handbrake

What is the best export method (file type and settings) for exporting HD video to be converted using Handbrake? I use handbrake to convert my HD video to be played on my iPad. And I want to edit the video first in iMovie, then export the movie to handbrake to be converted to play on my iPad.
My biggest concern is exporting from iMovie, I want the best possibly quality. Any help from your experience is appreciated. Thanks!

I still don't see how Handbrake is necessary.
For example, you can, in imovie, SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose h.264 as codec, 1280x720 as dimensions, and then set data rate at a good level.
I would recommend that you make a 1 minute movie so you can test various settings and see which works for you. Try a data rate of say 12Mbps and then try lower data rates until you see a drop off in quality. You may be able to go as low as 5mbps or lower. The only advantage of a low data rate is a lower file size, but iPads have limited storage so no need to use more bandwidth than necessary.

Exporting DV/HD files from iMovie to FCE-different sizes in canvas?

Desperately need your help. I have a problem with moving my files from iMovie to FCE to edit. Pre cut in iMovie from both DV and HD files (canon 5D) and moving the project to FCE through XML. When in FCE the files line up with different sizes, the old DV files small, 1/3 of the canvas, the HD files perfect.
Are there any settings which can be changed to fix this?
Another problem I have is when exporting to QT the quality simply is not the same as when I export from iMovie and play on 50" plasma. Why? I have tried all options available.
Hope someone out there has some experience and advise.

I assume your Sequence settings are for HD which would be why the SD files are so small in comparison.

Place your playhead on the frame that you want to save. In iMovie, go to File/Save Frame. In the resulting drop down box, select your format (in this case, JPEG) and your save destination (I use Desktop). When you save, you then will have on your desktop a JPEG of your still frame that you can import into iPhoto. But, the resolution will only be the DV video resolution of 640x480, which is not useful for much but e-mailing, sending to the web, or using in iMovie. Hope this helps.

How can I export a finished project from iMovie when the "share" function will not respond?

Hopefully someone might have an answer for me. I am trying to export a finished project to You Tube. However, when trying to choose the file, it does not show up in the finished project list. I have gone back to iMovie to see if I've made a mistake with finalizing it. It seems to be finalized, but I cannot share it to anything (You Tube, Facebook, iTunes). I click on share and it does not respond. I click on File, scroll down to share, it does nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you reslove it?

I experienced the same problem as mreingrover. The Share features of iMovie appear to be completely unimplemented.
I had had MacKeeper installed for a short while on my previous Mac; never on my new MacBook Pro. I could not find any trace of it in Application Support, Launch Daemons, or LaunchAgents, in either my user Library or the root Library. But I figured maybe there was some trace somewhere that had been copied over from the old system, so I deleted iMovie and went to reinstall it from the App Store.
Now the App Store wants $14.95 for an app that has never worked right, and which is (I think) supposed to be free with my new MacBook Pro Retina.

Exporting different regions codes from imovie

Does imovie allow you to export video and burn to DVD with different region codes. I live in Canada and would like to make a copy of my movie for someone living in Europe.

Being from Germany and thus often confronted with the PAL/NTSC issue:
Over the last at least 10 years the majority of locally sold DVD-Players and TV-Systems are multisystem. So the risk of someone not being able to play back an NTSC-DVD is there, but chances are a lot higher that it works.
To my knowledge, the majority of DVD-Players sold here even allow for playback of an NTSC-DVD to a PAL-only TV-set.
I personally think it is fairly safe at this time, only to worry about the system issue (not saying it is not there at all) once you get feedback, that someone is in fact not able to playback NTSC-material.

Error -108 keeps appearing when I try to export/share a project from imovie. what can i do?

I've created a project on imovie and it's finished now. I've tried to share/export it and it wont work. I've emptied my trash, closed time machine and dropbox and deleted files but nothing seems to work.

Exporting 2 hour progect from iMovie takes 8 hours?

Please help... Why it takes so long ? I'm exporting 2hour Movie project and it takes me 8hours to export.

I'm afraid that unless you've got a maxed out Mac Pro, with RAID disks and 8+ CPU cores, then that kind of time does sound about right.
It's because each and every video frame has to be processed by the system CPU. That is, read in, translated, reformatted including computational compression in most cases, and then written out again to disk. That's a lot more work that just spitting the unchanged frames out to the video card's decoder for normal playing.
If the common technology doesn't go much beyond HD (already HUGE amounts of data), then hopefully in about five years or so, the common computers of the time will be able to process in real time (one-to-one), or even faster if we're really lucky. I can't wait!

Having trouble exporting a .vpe file from Photoshop CC

When I click the little arrow for the dropdown menu, the option to export a .vpe file for After Effects is not there. This looks so simple in the tutorials I have seen, but I can't find "export .vpe for after effects" anywhere. How can I export a .vpe file? Can anyone help?

I agree. I don't rely on iCloud as a backup, that is what I have my portable hard drive for. Its 500 GB so I can hold my entire iTunes library several times over on it. I have all my movies on my hard drive, but somehow "The Mist" got deleted off of my hard drive, so I figured "Well, the option to redownload an already purchased movie is available through iCloud, I'll just do that!"
And permissions and download availability have nothing to do with it, the movie's still there, it still allows me to redownload it. The only problem is when I click download, I get that message.
And nobody else uses my computer, but I do have multiple accounts authorized on it. Even still though, I am attepmpting to download it through the account I purchased it under. :/

I cannot help you because your description of the problem is very vague. First what software did you update, iOS or iMovie. Second where are you trying to export iMovie Films to?

Exporting from iMovie

I am trying to export an AVI file from iMovie but the dimensions need to be 840 x 480. I can't seem to get past the default setting of 720 x 480. Any ideas of how to do this?

Try using share>Export using Quicktime
Click Options and choose the codec/resolution etc
