Trouble exporting PDF spreads.. "not valid page names"
Regardless what I enter in the "range" section, I get an error that says: "one or more of the pages specified are not valid page names"
How can i again export pdfs?
I've tried entering "16-19" There usually is some "Sec" thing though I can't remember...
can ANYONE please help me...
Email me if you can @
[email protected]
I would really appreciate it...
(^ LOL, a familiar name, I think? Just had lunch with Randy on Wednesday.)
Ghary, this is usually caused by the prefix ID tends to put into section starts if you aren't paying attention. You have to address the pages by their full name, which most likely makes your page range something like "Sec 1:1 - Sec 1:16" (Steve's trick is actually easier by far if you have to leave them in for some reason).
Best long-term fix is to go back to your section starts and delete everything out of the Section Prefix field. This is also nice in that the real page numbers get transferred to PDFs if you export instead of the weird "Sec 1:1" page numbers.

I'm trying to export two pages (a spread) as a PDF. I've tried a number of times, using various techniques, including exporting first to a .imx file. Each time I get this message: One or more of the pages specified are not valid page names.
How can I get this to work?
I can't attach the file because it is 11MB.
Thanks,Are you using sections in your document? That may mess up your pagenumbering while exporting pages as spreads. Try to put + to front of page numbers... like +12-+13 (into Export dialog´s page range field)
Another option is go to Preferences > General and change pagenumbering view method from Section Numbering to Absolute Numbering. -

I created a "form" in MS Word using a table with blanks for where the fill-in fields are supposed to go. I converted the file to PDF, and then I tried to use the PDF Forms maker with the automatic field detection feature (Acrobat 8 Pro) but I keep getting the error "Bad PDF; could not read page structure. <Bad PDF; error in processing fonts: unsupported Type2 font> [1]" What could be causing this? Is there something I need to do in Word to make the field recognition work? The field recognition has worked with other PDFs that I have not created in Word. I'd rather not have to create each individual field myself, if I don't need to. I thought this was a great feature when I have used it on other PDFs, but I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong on forms I am creating myself in Word.<br /><br />I am using a MacBook with Leopard, all updates installed, Office:MAC 2008 and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.<br /><br />Thank you in advance!
I got where you were going with this, so I printed with the Adobe 8.0 printer and then I was able to use the auto field detection. THANKS!!

How do I get my money back? Adobe Export PDF does not work
How do I get my money back? Adobe Export PDF does not work
You'd have to contact Adobe (we are users).
That being said, if you go to the proper forum and give them the details about what you mean by "does not work", I'm sure they can help you. Because it does work.

Indesign cc 2014 export to spreads not working
Hello
I have a book on indesign 36 pages, when I export to pdf (not interactive) I click the option spreads, low quality because it is a proof.
my problem is that some pages are exported as spreads but others are not being exported as spreads
help please!!!
thank youIf there are multiple pages within any individual file in your book, those can be output as spreads, but you cannot print a spread made from the last page of file A and the first page of file B even though they are together in the finished book.
If you need to have spreads, I'd export the entire book to PDF (as single pages), then place the PDF into a new .indd file using Scott Zanelli's script (InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files) and print your spreads from that, but really, do you need spreads for a proof? -
Indesign transparency multiply pdf/x-1a pdf/x-4 export pdf object not visible
Hello,
I've created a simple Indesign cs4 document under osx demonstrating the problem. I've copied from an Indesign document a rectangle with a fill color 100% cyan and a transparency effect multiply and paste the object within a new created document. I've paste the same rectangle again and switched off the transparency effect. Then I've create a new rectangle again with the same fill color and multiply transparency effect.
When I create a pdf with the standard pdf/x-4 settings the copied rectangle with the multiply transparency effect has disappeared, while the other 2 rectangles are visible. Creating a pdf with the standard pdf/x-1 settings in Indesign, then all 3 rectangles are visible.
I've created a zip file named Indesign.zip with the following 3 elements:
- multiply.indd - indesign document
- pdfx1.pdf - export pdf with pdf/x1 settings (3 rectangles are visible)
- pdfx4.pdf - export pdf with pdf/x4 settings (only 2 rectangles are visible)
Opening the document with CS5 and creating pdf files, we obtain the same strange result.
You can download the zip file from the following link:
http://www.symeta.be/symeta/static/files/Indesign.zip
How do we explain this peculiar problem?
Regards,Peter, John,
If there is no solution finding corrupt objects before going to production (creating pdf files), then the problem is only detected when the job is printed! More important, if the corrupt object is located in an advertisement, then you customer wouldn't pay.
To further investigate the problem I've create 2 snippets with the following names:
- Snippet_Good_PDFx4_Result.idms (snippet of the object who's visible after conversion to pdf/x-4)
- Snippet_Wrong_PDFx4_Result.idms (snippet of the object who's not visible after conversion to pdf/x-4)
You can download these snippets from the following link.
http://www.symeta.be/symeta/static/files/Snippets.zip
When I replace the following 4 lines from the bad snippet:
<PathPointType Anchor="0.21122640285165062 35298.673065771356" LeftDirection="0.21122640285165062 35298.673065771356" RightDirection="0.21122640285165062 35298.673065771356"/>

With the following 4 lines from the good snippet:

Then the result is ok!
The bad one has very strange coordinate values, such as 35298.673065771356 which is about 12452 mm! When placing the bad snippet in a new Indesign document the result is ok, just after converting to pdfx/4 the object isn't visible anymore!
Who can justify this strange behaviour?

The font weight on exported PDF's differs on pages w/ graphics in Acrobat?
Hi,
I couldn't find anyone addressing this, so here goes...
I just upgraded to iWork '06/Pages 2.02 so I could export PDF eBooks and retain the hyperlinks. Everything is working great, except that when I view the PDFs in Safari with Acrobat Reader (rather than Preview) or on a Win machine with Acrobat reader), pages that have images on them (and sometimes different bolded fonts) affect the weight of the normal article (non-bolded) font. In other words, the normal font will look slightly bolded on pages where there are also images, whereas the weight looks fine (as it did in Pages) on pages where it's only text.
This does not happen while viewing the PDF in Preview. This seems like a bug in the way Pages is compressing the PDF, which seems to be present regardless of the export quality setting used.
Has anyone else encountered this and are there any work-arounds?
Thanks a bunch!
-MarkHello Mark
PDF/X-3 (what Save As PDF-X creates) is a standard developed for print with the intention of eliminating compatibility problems for people submitting jobs to outside print services. It ensures that the necessary font subsets are embedded into the PDF. Maybe this is why it fixes your font problems although I've often noticed issues with fonts both on Windows and OS X. Unless you are zoomed in quite close, they can look poor on screen but print quite well. This seems to be an artifact of the viewers and font dependent.
I'm quite surprised that your hyperlinks work. Given that they are for interactive purposes I would have thought that the PDF/X-3 production process would have stripped them out.
I'm not at my Mac right now so I can't verify this but you may be able to create your own PDF workflow with Automator that generates the precise amount of image compression and font subsetting you require for your PDFs.
The end of this thread might give you a start: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4300016#4300016
I hope that is of some help.
Good luck!

How to export pdf from numbers with page breaks
I am trying to export a pdf from numbers that contains page breaks. When i print the page breaks are created for printing automatically and i like scrolling with no page breaks while working on spreadsheet. But, if export pdf the file becomes one long scrolling page. Which is good on screen but when email recipient tries to print, it prints to a single page and type face is impossibly tiny to read. I would like to export a view in which page breaks are included but can not seam to find the process (i have recently switched from excel to numbers).
One thing you might try (if you haven't already) is to pretend you are printing your numbers document, but after you press the "Print..." button (perhaps after doing the "Print setup" thing) do "Save as PDF" instead of just printing it. Presumably, this gives you the PDF that is used to do the print job.

PDF Spreads to Single Pages, and specify view options
I have a large InDesign document set up in 8.5 x 11 spreads. I need to export to PDF as single pages but also specify the page view as "fit to page."
If I use the Print options I can get the single pages, but can't seem to specify the page view. If I use the Interactive options I can specify the page view, but everything exports as spreads instead of single pages.
Am I missing something here?Maybe I spoke too soon. The script solved the problem of the spreads, but it created another one. Now, when I use the "Interactive PDF" dialog box and specify the page view, none of the page links in the index work. They are there, the cursor becomes a "hand" when hovering over the page numbers, but when I click it doesn't go anywhere. If I use the "PDF to Print" dialog box and check the Hyperlink box, the links all work, but I don't get to specify the page view.
The script apparently does something to the page identification so the link doesn't carry forward properly from the individual book documents to the new single PDF that is created
BTW, I'm using InDesign 7.04 on a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac running 10.6.8, with 12GB of memory.
Color me frustrated. My job deadline is tomorrow, and I thought I was on target to meet that with no problem. After laying out 2000+ pages, I thought the PDF would be a simple no-brainer, but it seems to be the show-stopper. -

Hi there!
Are you certain that the serial number is for InDesign? And the correct version?
Please feel free to PM me if you wish to verify the serial number.

Exported PDF looks beautiful in Pages and Preview not in Acrobat Reader
Hi, I need a little help. I created an eBrochure in Pages which looks beautiful. When I export it to PDF, it looks amazing in Preview but not in Adobe Acrobat Reader; pictures doesn't look so bright and shiny, they loom more opaque. Also fonts look kind of weird. I went to Photoshop and tried to do it there, it looks better in Acrobat Reader but texts don't print as nice as the Pages one (photos do). So my problem I guess is with the photos on Pages... What can I do to ensure that my document created in Pages and exported to PDF can have the same quality in the Reader as it has in Preview?
Photos are in JPEG format and have a decent resolution I guess:
File Size 1.4 MB
With: 1200 pixels
Height: 1800 pixels
Resolution: 300 pixels/ inch
Pixel Dimensions: 6.18M
Pages computer is a MBA, 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.5.7, Pages '09 4.0.2
Thanks. As far as I know, there is no provision for such settings in these programs.
Developer documentation for ICC colour management in Firefox 2, Firefox 3 and Firefox 3.5, see below. Firefox 3 has ICC colour management disabled by default. Firefox 3.5 has ICC colour management for images within which there is embedded an ICC source colour space profile. It is possible to set Firefox to colour manage the application windows as well as images with embedded ICC profiles. The developer documentation discusses how to do this in what sounds suspiciously like a command line / terminal tool, and also how to point Firefox 3.5 to the display profile. This in turn sounds suspiciously like Firefox 3.5 is unable to talk to the system level service and ask for the display profile automatically.
Camino and Opera ... I'll pass. I suspect it's more of the same mess.

Exporting PDFs and maintaining double-page spread format
I've combined a large number of individual PDF files (created in InDesign) for print. Now I would like to create an iBook with these pages. I've created a PDF file for use on an iPad but how do I maintain the double-page spread format? I can view this successfully in Acrobat but not in iBooks. Can anyone help?
Thanks
FThis is best addressed in either an iBooks forum on the Apple website or InDesign. For use in iBooks you might be best off using a format other than pdf.

Can you export half the pages at a time? If one half exports and the other does not, try eporting half of the half that failed. Keep dividing in half until you isolate a page. I suspect there is a problem with an image on one page.
And in future, please post the crash report on pastebin.com and put a link here. Crash reports make it difficult to navigate the forum.
