Trouble exporting to Windows Media

Hi -- I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem.
I have two .mov files that I need to export to .wmv. The exports complete successfully, but the resulting .wmv files are cut off. One cuts off at 29 seconds even though the .mov clip is 49 seconds; the other is cutting off at 29 although the .mov is 3:23. I am using the WMV 9 standard codec.
Any suggestions?
Thanks--
Jennifer

Yes, like Sue said, you don't have a trial version of iMovie, just Flip4Mac. Flip4Mac is the software plugin that allows you to export WMV. It works thru Quicktime. You don't actually launch Flip4Mac...it's very cool and works in the background. When you're ready to export your completed QT movie, that you made with iMovie, you'll choose to do that in the File pull down menu. There you will see the option to export WMV, however, as previously discussed, you will not be able to export the movie using Flip4Mac without some sort of watermark, or length restriction, in it's trial mode. In previous versions you were limited to 30 seconds, but I think the current F4M will export longer, but there is a watermark embedded on the final product. It's worth the few dollars if you plan on exoprting often. You can get into the system preferences and find the Flip4Mac preference. First click on the the update and see if you've got the most recent, then go to the Upgrade tab and there you can purchase the liscense if you want to. For more info on Flip4Mac check it out HERE

  • Export to windows media encoder-PPro crashes

Every time I try to export to Adobe Media encoder: windows media: PPro crashes.
I am working on a 64k computer using the 32k version of PPro CS3.
Every other format in the media encoder works fine.
Does anyone have any solutions or know why this happens?
    Thanks,
    J.

    J.Charette, "Export to windows media encoder-PPro crashes" #, 15 Jan 2009 12:24 pm
This thread is getting a bit old now but I'm now having the exact same problem as J.Charette. I think I may have some light to shed on it as well. I was successfully running CS3 master collection and exporting to WMV files in PPro/AE for the past year under XP64. I was given a new computer (again XP64) and didn't have any problems until I installed Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 64 (I used to use the 32 bit version successfully and this time figured I'd just get the 64 bit one instead).
Now that I've installed WME I can't export as WMV from any AE/PPro CS3. As soon as AME comes up with the format selection screen, if I select WMV from the drop down box it immediately crashes. I've tried uninstalling WME, reinstalling it and even uninstalling WME & CS3 and reinstalling from scratch. Still doesn't work.
In my case at least, there is a definite correlation between installing WME64 and its interaction with Adobe Media Encoder... Anyone have any suggestions? It seems to me there must be some registry setting / config file for AME that is causing it to try to use WME64 for something which causes a crash (since 32 and 64 bit apps can't call each other).
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Christopher Grant

  • Exporting to Windows Media Player

Whenever I try to export a movie from Quicktime Pro to Windows Media Player it will only create a 30 second clip. Why won't it export the whole file? Thanks for any info/tips!

You have only the playback version of flip-4-mac, free. To encode you need to buy the component that allows you to export to WMP.

  • Export for Windows media player

What is the safest codec to export a video to be shown on a PC with Windows Media Player?  I have Compressor and Adobe's Media Encoder s well as Mpeg Streamclip on my Mac.
    Thanks.

Sorry, my mistake .... WMV through AME is Windows only. You will need Flip4Mac to output WMV.

  • Exporting for Windows Media Player/MPEG (help in translating mixed message)

So a client of mine had an unusual request today. He's been asked by some tech folk who are doing 'commercials' in the theater lobby to provide them with clips with these specifications (and I use that term loosely):
MPEG files that are non-compressed and play in Windows Media Player (no Quicktime allowed) and are Audio Enhanced. Needs to be burned on a CD not a DVD.
Yeah, sounds like folk who have no clue as to what they want and are trying to pretend they do to me too
So...any ideas on what they really want? And is it best to export via Compressor or invest in that Flip4Mac?
I'm probably going to get a phone call from the tech folk on Monday and want to be a bit forearmed w/some idea of what the heck they REALLY mean!

Yup, that's why I'm so perplexed by their specs. Kinda like asking me to make a Photoshop picture that's bright and and can be printed big
Since I don't ever deal w/WMP (shudder) was wondering if their gobbledeegook actually made sense in another realm (glad to hear it doesn't seem to).

  • Can I export to Windows Media 1080p with same quality as Windows Live Movie Maker?

I am looking to replace Windows Live Movie Maker, because of the following:
    it keeps crashing
it has occasional problems with audio sync when I use MTS source files
it has very limited editing features (especially inability to increase audio levels for a clip)
However, I would like to still render to 1080p Windows Media files for archiving. Does anyone know if there are settings I could use in Premiere to export to 1080p and get equivalent quality to WLMM?  I have failed to find a combination of settings in Premiere that doesn't mess up the video with horizontal lines during motion.  Here is an example:
When I use the 1080p export setting in WLMM, the video comes out looking essentially the same as the original MTS files, like in this snapshot:
However, I have failed to find any settings in Premiere Elements that will give an equivalent result.  Below is a snapshot from the Windows Media file I exported from Premiere:
And these are the settings I used:
    My Equipment:
    Canon Vixia HF200
    Windows 7 x64
    AMD Phenom II x4 945 3Ghz
    4GB RAM
    300GB 10K RPM HDD
    ATI Radeon 4800 Series
    Premiere Elements 8 trial
    Thanks,

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for the response.  I did go back and verify the project setting, and I think I was originally using the wrong project settings.  This is what I'm using now for the project:
And then to share, I went to Personal Computer -> WMV, and selected these advanced settings:
Unfortunately, I still see the jagged horizontal lines like the original screenshot I posted.  I tried playing with other video export settings (constant bit rate, at 8,000 and 20,000 also), and with variable constrained/unconstrained output.  I'm really at a loss for what is going on.  I did confirm that it doesn't have the horizontal lines if I encode to MPEG, but the WMV problem persists.

  • Word "Logo" Appears on Titles When Exporting as Windows Media File

Whenever exporting as a windows media file, the title pages are obscured by the word "logo" in large type across the screen. Is there a rendering step or other problem I am overlooking? It doesn't seemed to be a problem with other export formats -- but it is essential I have this as a Windows Media file.

  • Problems exporting to Windows Media file

    Hello,
I don't know why, but when I export movies as WMV files, I am only able to do a few seconds of it (30 seconds to 35 seconds) . Any one know why I am not able to export the entire movie? I did not install it on this computer, but I believe it's using a codec from Flip4Mac.
    Thanks in advance

resonally, I don't use either one. For WMV format, I use Microsoft's free Windows Media Encoder on my Windows XP system (no Mac version available).< </div>
Yar, find a cheap used PC; should be about $100.
Having a dedicated PC for this will save you endless headaches. You just cannot imagine how weird it is getting QT to WMV. Popwire and Flip4Mac both have excellent white papers you can download that explain why their solution is better than the other guy's. These can give you some clues about the types of problems you are going to have with bitrates, codecs and gamma/bright changes between platforms.
You also want to explore thoroughly the option of using Flash for crossplatform delivery. It is completely agnostic, universally available, and tolerant of all kinds of weird data issues.

  • Export a Windows Media File

For some reason, I can only export the first half of my 30 second commercial to a Windows Media file. Odd. I really have no idea why it's doing this. Any suggestions?
AE CS3, working on a MAC
Heck if I'm missing it in the render Q options let me know.

There is technically no need to buy anything than one single Windows licence. No need for AE or other tools. Windows Movie Maker is free, Windows Media Encoder Basic is free and so is VirtualDub and several other tools that can output AVIs in a plethora of CoDecs and WMVs. All you have to do is get an AVI or MOV over to the Windows world... The question however is, how frequently you have to do this and if it is worth spending an afternoon with Bootcamp and a Windows install. You might quite well get happy with Flip4Mac Basic, which is a mere 99 bucks if I recall correctly. Things only get dicy if you need more advanced features of the more expensive Pro version. In addition, there's always the risk of something looking perfect on OSX and the client still ending up with an unusable file if you have no way of checking them on the native OS.

  • Exporting to Windows Media file

I am using FCE 3.5, I am trying to export my project as a Windows Media file. Problem is, my project is 5 minutes long and it is only exporting the first 29 seconds. When I export as .mov file I get the whole 5 minutes, just can't do it for Windows Media file. Anyone know why this may be? Help please.
I have tried making sure in and out points are at beginning and end of project, I have also selected all clips before choosing to export.

Anyone know why this may be?
Because a trial version of Flip4Mac is powering the conversion. You need to purchase Flip4Mac WMV Studio to create a longer Windows Media file.
If it looks like QuickTime's powering it, it's not.

  • FC4 Export to Windows Media Player???

I just cut a 6 minute short on Final Cut 4 and want to export it as a .wmv (Windows Media Player) file.
Does FC4 have any exporting options for this?
Anyone have any ideas on how I can go about accomplishing this?

You might need Windows Media for the Mac:

I'm not sure it will export to .wmv. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Exporting in windows media format - only get 30 seconds!

I am trying to export a HDV film into windows media format for my client. They want the film to be 320 x 180, in windows media format and under 10mb, for use on their website.
The film is 3 1/2 minutes long, but when I try and export using quicktime conversion and then select windows media. I have tried fiddling with some of the settings but it keeps just doing 30 seconds of the film. What am I doing wrong? What settings should I be using?
    Please help me,
    Thank you,
    Tom

IMO, Flip4Mac Studio is a much better product than Visual Hub. Both cost money, but better feature set within F4M. As you experienced, you can only get 1/2 the duration of exports, up to a limit of 30 seconds, in trial mode.
If you want the studio version, go to your WMV preferences and click on the upgrade tab.

  • Problems exporting wo windows media

Ok. I have an ixus camera. I know, not the ideal hardware for source material :) But I got it to work in premiere with the morgan multimedia m-jpeg codec. So now pemiere can handla the movies.
With cs3, the movies exported fine to wmv. No problems. But with cs4, I get a very pixelated image, if you know what I mean. Like its low resolution, and the resized so you starting to se the individual pixels. If I export to, lets say, quicktime, the image is fine. If I put a check in "allow interlaced processing" it gets e little less pixelated, but instead blury.
What to do? Is there a new engine for convering to wmv or whats the deal here?
    win xp sp 3
    4 Gb memory
    8800 gtx, latest drivers
    Please advice
    // Magnus

I'm not sure why you're having problems exporting to WMV, but for the most control over WMV parameters you should use the free Microsoft Windows Media Encoder.

My wife attached her Ipod touch, whilst linked thru her office PC to iTunes and it immediately and automatically started to transfer her Windows Media Player library onto the iPod....we tried the same by attaching my Touch to my laptop but there appears to be something preventing export from Windows MP - can anyone give me any tips as to what it might be and how i can turn it off?

  • I purchased QT Pro, and the manual indicates that you can export to Windows Media.  However, the application does not give me that option.  Am I missing something?

How can I export a movie to Windows Media using QT Pro?  Upgraded QT7.7 to Pro for this reason based on the graphic in the QT manual that indicates Windows Media is an export selection.

In my original e-mail I actually pasted a screen print of the drop-down menu in the manual.  However, here is the link:
    http://images.apple.com/quicktime/pdf/QuickTime7_User_Guide.pdf
Go to section 4:  Exporting Files with Quicktime Pro.  Page 42 has an illustration of the menu choices.  The text states “To see the list of file formats available for a movie open in QuickTime Player, choose File > Export and browse the list of file format choices in the Export pop-up menu.”  In the illustration of the drop-down menu, the selection “Movie to Windows Media” is listed between “Movie to QuickTime Movie” and “Sound to AIFF.”  However, the actual application does not provide this option.  After reading the support threads (after my purchase), users agree that  WMV is not supported.  However, the Apple user manual clearly displays this option and it was this documentation that led me to purchase the QT Pro upgrade.  If the format is not supported, why is it listed in the documentation?
I feel that this illustration is misleading, and I’m requesting a refund based on the fact the application does not support an option illustrated in Apple’s published manual.
If this e-mail supports attachments, the attached file is the pdf version I saved of this manual.
