Trouble finding old templates/project files

I created several relatively intricate DVD menus several months ago and then had to transfer all the project files and associated media to a different computer. Now I can't seem to open any of the menus I created.
It seems like it should be simple but what is the extension of the primary project file in DVD SP? Are they *.layout files? When I try to open these, DVD Studio pro just sits idly and does nothing.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
thanks

I was able to work this one out myself.

  • Commenting a Template Project File, but how?

This would be really handy (from the Logic Pro 8 User Manual, p. 154):
Tip: You can add a descriptive text to your templates by adding a comment to the
project file in the Finder. The Templates dialog displays the icon assigned to a template file, making it easy for you to change a template’s icon. For more information on how to add a comment to a file, or change the icon of a file, see the Finder Help.
Well, I added some Spotlight Comment in the File Info Window of some of my template files, but they do not show up in Logic. A new icon does, however.
Sometimes I just overlook something really easy on my Mac (after all these years...). But what is it this time?
Anyone any idea? Feature only working on Leopard?
    Thanks,
    Marius

I too tried this some time ago. I made several attempts before giving up. Perhaps I gave up too soon but the method seemed very straight forward in the manual. So I too would be interested in hearing from anyone who managed to do this sucessfully.

  • Using old iMovie projects files

i created an iMovie about 3 years ago on a mac and I want to use those project files again on my iMovie version 7. Any ideas anyone?

It depends on the iMovie version number that created the files. iMovie 5, and earlier, uses a different folder structure than iMovie 6.
iMovie 6 stores all of the Project data inside a special "package" file (double click launches the app). You can Control-click on the Project file and "Show Package Contents". You can then dig around to find your source file imports and move them to a new location by holding down the Option key while your drag. The cursor will change to a green circle with a plus + sign indicating the file is being duplicated (not removed from the Project).
Older versions of iMovie have a more "standard" folder structure but the Option key is still the trick you need to remember when moving files.

  • Trouble opening a managed project file on a PC

    Hi all!
So I have encountered a really weird problem that's been driving me bonkers lately. I'm working on a comedy web series and have been getting managed timelines from the editor to do some adjustments, grading and sound with. The first episode went fine but for some reason the next two aren't relinking properly.
They have to video tracks, one for DSLR footage and then a track above that has footage from a Atmos Ninja Blade that they've synced up. The blade footage doesn't relink on these new project files. They come into the timeline with the grey bars on them denoting missing frames or some such, but the clips are in the bins and the footage is there. It's like all the ins and outs are getting disregarded.
Now, oddly enough, this only happens on my PC (my main station). It does NOT happen on my macbook pro. Everything relinks fine there.
Can anyone shed some light on what's going on? I need to work on my main station but if I can avoid having to go in and reset each clip of Blade footage, I would LOVE that.
    Thanks!

follow-up: I have seen tips online about making sure to move the "media" part of the project as well as the project itself. It's strange though: there is no "media" here! I go to the movies folder, and there's the little project icon, and no associated "media". I understand the point: you need the project and all of its components in order to open and work on the project, but with iMovie 7, where does the "media" go when the project is saved?? I'm desperate here.

  • Old iPhoto project files missing captions after upgrading from OSX 10.4 to 10.7.4

    Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping you might be able to assist me please!  I had created a bunch of iPhoto project books whilst using OSX 10.4 and the version of iPhoto that resided there.  I've recently upgraded all the way up to 10.7.4 and installed the most recent version of iPhoto so that I can finally purchase these photo books.  iPhoto "upgraded" my projects and now all my captions have been replaced by the "ipsum lorem" template text!  Is there any way I can recover the caption text from the hundreds of pages?  Do they reside in a file somewhere on my Mac or have they been wiped away during the upgrade?
Thanks for you time and consideration!

  • Acrobat Distiller 9 trouble finding fonts in .ps file

    Hi all,
I''m using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended's Distiller to generate pdfs from ps files.  The ps files are being generated from a program called DirectoryExpert 4.0 from Ingenix.  I'm creating 3 files, all of which use Arial fonts.  Two of the files generate fine, but the third keeps giving me messages that the Arial font could not be found, so Distiller is using Courier (which is not what we want!).  The Arial fonts are available in TrueType/OpenType form in my Windows font folders, but Distiller seems to be ignoring them, although I have not set it to do so.  I'm contacting Ingenix as well, but does anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks!

In the PS file, look at the exact designation of the font. I has to be exactly the same as the same on your system or it will not be included.  The other way is to embed the font in the PS file and then Distiller will use that font. Also be sure that the font you are using is licensed for embedding.

  • Find imovie project file in Finder

I'm trying to find an imovie project file in finder.  I can see the project when I'm in iMovie, but when I go into user - movies - imovie projects, it doesn't appear.  I've searched for file type imovieproject, and searched my external hard drive.  In all these places, other project files are there, older ones, but not my current one.  Any ideas?  I have iMovie 10 mac OS Mavericks.

iMovie 10 stores everything in a package which in the Finder looks like a file with extension .imovielibrary.  If you right-click "Show package contents" you can see what's inside.  The "iMovie Projects" folder you are looking at is from iMovie 9 so it won't contain any projects that you have created since you updated to iMovie 10.

  • Need someone on PC to open and save Pro 1.5 project file in CS3

I am trying to salvage one of my old project files from when i worked on a PC. i can't do this because CS3 for Mac won't import old PC project files.
If anyone would be so kind as to accept my small project file and save it in Premiere Pro CS3 on their PC i would be much obliged.
    -Dave

    theaveragedave,
On the Mac, the Project file will *usually* appear without any file extension. Instead there will be one, or more, "helper/locator" files. These will usually be the filename, but with "._" (or similar) prepended to it. These are of no use to a PC.
All that I did was Copy the Project files to a new folder, and in it, added the ".prproj" extension. All opened fine. (Actually, since this was a pre-Pro version, I think that I added ".proj," but you would use ".prproj.")
If I were going to "convert" the Project, I'd gather up all Assets, keeping the folder structure exactly the same. Gather up the Project files (renaming, as is necessary), and furnish all of this to the person doing the conversion. This *should* keep your Asset Links working*. The other option would be to just convert the Project file, but then you will have to manually re-Link every Asset. If one gets lucky, and the Assets are stored in one folder, PP *might* be able to have you locate the first missing Asset, and then automatically locate the rest. I hesitate on this last comment, because you will have converted the Project, so things do not always work 100% the way they would otherwise. I had to do a lot of re-Linking, but I was jumping several versions and from Mac to PC. Still, once the Assets were re-Linked, all has worked perfectly.
Good luck finding a PC operator with CS3. Should not be that hard. Wish I could help you more, but CS2 won't cut it, for what you need to do.

    * Keeping the drive letter the same will be a big step to keeping your links. Let's say that you are working on your D:\ drive (sure that Mac would call it something else), and you copy over to an external. I'd have the PC operator copy the Assets (with folder structure) to their D:\, just to keep the Links. Does this make sense?
PS one little consideration is Mac's not using NTSF HDDs and the file size limitation of Fat-32 HDDs. However, you already have your Project and its Assets on a Mac, so this is probably moot.

  • Where is this mystery project file?!

I have just opened FCE 4 and staring me in the face was an old project I have not used for a while.
However, what is even more weird is that the title is totally different from what it was and I cannot find this new project file anywhere on my computer with a Spotlight Search.
The original name of the project was +Jacqui"s Yoga+ and that is where it should be.
Note that I had accidentally used quotation marks instead of an apostrophe.
However, the name of this project is +Jacqui"s Yoga12-22-091248+
I never use that low dash symbol.
As I said, I don't know where this title has come from and I can't find the actual project file of that name. When I open the original +Jacqui"s Yoga+ the clips are arranged differently.
Any idea what is going on besides poltergeist?
Can FCE spontaneously create its own project names and how can I find where this new project name file is situated?
Incidentally, the original project is an FCP 6 one!
I'm not saying that I didn't create this "new" project, but I certainly can't remember giving it such a weird name and how can I find where it is?

Well, I have finally found the original ASV file in my FC PRO Documents folder! I had looked there earlier but must have missed it. Still curious as to why Spotlight didn't find it.
I suppose I must have double-clicked it yesterday to open the project, as there is no original project file . . . . but I can't remember doing it!
Maybe I shouldn't have 75 FCE/FCP projects on my iMac simultaneously! Life can get a little confusing.
This type of problem never occurred with my G3 iMac and its 40 GB HD !

  • Where are the project files located on the hard drive

does anyone know where on my hard drive I can find the imovie project files. In the itunes under imovie it shows two projects but they are not on my ipad in the app. how do i delete them if they don't show up when using the imovie app.
    Thanks
    Roger

If you see a project in itunes (in the apps tab, and then File Sharing),
you can import it into iMovie iOS from the main screen.
Open iMovie on your device and go to the projects screen, if it isn’t already showing, by tapping My Projects in the upper-left corner above the viewer.
On the screen, tap the Import button , and tap the name of the project you want to import. When the import is complete, the project opens and can be edited like any other project.
Have a read of this helpful manual that explains the in and outs of iMovie iOS:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/ipad/1.2/index.html#
This explains in more detail about getting projects in and out of iMovie iOS.

  • Can't open Soundtrack 1.x project files in Soundtrack 2.02. SOS!!!!

This is driving me nuts. I've tried trashing prefs, trashing STP folder, reparing permissions, reinstalling and NOTHING will let me open old multitrack project files (with some hefty mixing/fx). Here's what I get in the terminal window. If anyone could help me figure it out, I'd so appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Project files share

I am looking for some Final Cut Pro X project files to play with.
Is there a website to find these?

Project files are hard to come by because they are useless without the media. Most FCP instruction, either online or on print or eBooks, come with tutorial media and project files.

  • My Project files are no longer viewable on imovie 11

I can still see events and I can still find the actual project files in finder

Additional checks show that I can see Project Files as normal if I log in as different user on the iMac.
The iMovie files (Events and Projects) are stored on an external drive that is connected directly to the iMac.
On the Main account, the external drive does not show up under the Project Library.

  • Need to determine which project files uses a video file

Short of going through each of my FCP project files one by one, is there any way to find out which of my project files uses a particular video file?
    Thanks,
    John Link

As long as it has a name you can search for it.
The problem is not to find a media file, it is to find all the project files that use a media file. Thanks, cometmace, for providing a solution to that problem, and welcome to the Apple Discussions.
