Trouble getting HDMI audio working

The problem I am currently facing with arch is that I am having trouble getting nvidia HDMI audio in kde. In gnome 3, it worked out of the box but I removed gnome and installed kde and have very little knowledge on setting up the audio. I have tried the arch wiki but it has not helped much. Any help? The aplay -l looks like this:
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]

Yeah, it's down for me too.
Install gstreamer0.10-good-plugins like suggested in that blurb if you already haven't, put in module-device-manager in your pulse config as given, and also build and install veromix from AUR and see what kind of options that program exposes for you.
Edit: and restart after all this, either the computer or PulseAudio.

  • Getting HDMI audio working (ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mATX)

Hey everyone. So I'm trying to create a HTPC using this ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mATX motherboard with a 3.0 GHz E8400 Core 2 Duo and 4GB RAM. I've installed Arch 64-bit on it and have full 1080p video showing nicely on my HD TV with Gnome set up quite nicely. I've gone through the Wiki for the documentation for getting ALSA working but I cannot get any audio working. I have 3 outputs on this board, the line-out on the back, the headphones on the front and the HDMI audio on the back.
I admit I am an ALSA/Linux Audio newb but it seems like everything is set up properly comparing it to the Wiki document. I get very faint audio from the headphones but nothing else. I'd really like to get the HDMI audio working but I am completely and totally lost as to what to do. I don't even know what devices and modules I should be looking for. I'm pretty sure the sound chipset is Intel HDA Audio. Although, under Vista it comes back as Realtek audio controller.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

While searching for the solution myself I stumbled over this rather old thread and having found the solution it might be interesting for someone out there :-)
HDMI audio is working fine with the Asus P5E-V, the problem is that the IEC958 device has to be unmuted on the command line (since it is not showing in any mixer):
    (1)amixer --card 0 |grep 958
Then unmute the devices (in my case to unmute "'IEC958',1" was sufficient):
    (2)amixer --card 0 sset 'IEC958',0 unmute
    (3)amixer --card 0 sset 'IEC958',1 unmute
    (4)amixer --card 0 sset 'IEC958 Default PCM',0 unmute

  • I cannot get HDMI to work on my ENVY SmartTouch 17

Hi, I am trying to get HDMI to work on my HP Envy 17" Smarttouch (17t-J100 series) with WIndows 8.1.
I look in the Device Manager and I don't see an HDMI device.
    I do see HDMI audio.
Video is with the Intel 4600 series adapter.
If I attach the HDMI cable to the notebook and turn on the TV (Visio 32") the notebook will see another monitor, but it is unknown and the TV will simply display no signal. I do have the correct HDMI port selected on the TV for the cable.
There should be an entry for HDMI in the device manager under video correct?
    Thank in advance.

    Hello Steves411,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the notebook is experiencing issues connecting to your TV with an HDMI connection. I'll do my best to assist you!
To start troubleshooting, please provide the answers to all of my questions:
    1. Can the notebook connect to a normal monitor with that HDMI cable?
    2. Can a different notebook connect to the TV with that HDMI cable?
    3. Have you tried all of the suggestions in this document? Connecting a Monitor, Projector or TV (Windows 8)
Please answer these questions and I can continue to help you further. Thanks and have a great day!

  • TS1550 What about when using the "Time Capsule" HD as the external disk, especially when it is connected by ethernet cable? I'm having trouble getting it to work at all. Don't need it to work as anything else, other than a ethernet connected Time Machine

What about when using the "Time Capsule" HD as the external disk, especially when it is connected by ethernet cable? I'm having trouble getting it to work at all. Don't need it to work as anything else, other than a ethernet connected Time Machine backup. Already have a wireless network that works fine so no need to mess with it. We get the internet via cable company and their modem is upstairs and the Time Capsule is downstairs in the basement. The latest error message was about it could not backup as it was already in use (should have written it down before clicking OK and moving on.

    See if this helps...

  • I am having trouble getting buttons to work in Captivate 8 trial version using a responsive design template. Any suggestions?

I have a trial version of Captivate 8 that I am evaluating to determine if it will be an option to replace a software we currently use. However I am having a lot of trouble getting even the simplest of tasks to work using the responsive design template. To troubleshoot I created 2 projects 1st a completed empty project using responsive design and a 2nd blank project using the blank project template. I created an audio file that the button, when pressed, will play. I can place a button on first slide of both projects, rollovers work fine, but in the responsive design project buttons will not work to trigger the action. Is this a known issue in the trial version?

A Blank project is a normal cptx-project, not a responsive project, it has no breakpoint views like a responsive project, it is meant to have always the same layout but on publishing you can choose to have it 'rescale' automatically.  A responsive project allows you to create slightly different layouts for the three breakpoint views: Primary (desktop/laptop/landscape on tablets), Tablet (portrait on tablet) and mobile (phones, where the browser has much lower resolution than the real phone resolution). The 'look' of a project, whether it is responsive or not will be defined by the Theme that is the default theme at that moment, and with the default theme colors that you have at that moment. I think in newbie mode the default theme is White (not sure, never used newbie mode). If you choose another theme as default theme, a blank project and a responsive project will open with that theme applied to it. All themes coming with CP8 are responsive, but you can use them also for normal projects, in that case you only use the object styles for Primary view. Each object style normally has 3 versions, for the 3 breakpoint views.

  • Having trouble with HDMI audio out or earphones audio out

I have a new 13 MacBookPro running Snow Leopard. I would like to connect to my TV. (I put on Lion and couldn't get it to find the TV at all. I reloaded Snow Leopard and udated the software on the MacBookPro and on the TV itslef. I can't seem to get the audio to go out to my TV using an HDMI cable or the earphone jack. I have tried adjusting the audio in System Preferences > Sound. When I unplug the wire connceting the headphone jack to the TV it plays through the internal speakers. Any ideas?

Sonicray, I have checked my owner's manual and it does say that an additional audio cable may be required. I thoroughly looked over the manual and can find no place where it talks about enabling audio for HDMI. I already have the Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter that is advertised on the Apple Store. I wouldn't mind even using the separate audio cord. Just wish it would work.

  • HDMI audio works only with pavucontrol

I am having a weird problem with my HDMI audio output.
I can have sound only if I use pavucontrol to switch the per app output to HDMI. If I make HDMI as my default device, it would not work anymore until I delete .config/pulse and restart gdm. I must also make sure that before I close BOTH the app and pavucontrol, the per app output is switched back to my PCI-E sound card too.
I tried not to use pulseaudio to select the device, but use mplayer or jack directly (in GNOME or without gdm disabled, which means pulseaudio is not started), HDMI audio does not work at all too.
I am using a Radeon Evergreen with open source driver. Can anyone tell which part does the bug belong to, or if this is a setting issue?

  • Trouble getting both audio and video out of 2009 MBP.

I had this working fine a few months ago, and then upgraded to a Pioneer elite stereo, now either audio or video work, but not simultaneously, even if I connect video to TV directly and audio to stereo directly, I can't get both to work it's either or.  I've set the stereo to accept the optical input, and as I said above, it doesn't even work if I connect the audio to the stereo only while the video goes to the TV.  Really seems to be a software issue, any ideas?

the receiver will need to be set so the tv is one of the optical inputs. so that is why you are only hearing one or the other. the tv expects to get sound from a different source other then your opical input.
on my jvc there is a setting where I tell the receiver. The tv sound is digital so it'll find the digital signal and associate it to the tv sound.
What is your exact model receiver I'm sure there is a PDF of the instructions online.

  • Trouble getting sound to work on videos? Easy solution.

As a lot of people are discovering, iTunes will convert muxed (audio and visual) files, but won't keep the audio.
I downloaded a great program which allows the easy conversion of muxed files and automatically puts them on iTunes as mpeg4's after. It's a drag and drop type system, or you can open them as files in the simple 'add movie' thing up the top.
It is primarily designed for Macs, but I found a PC version (I'm a PC user). It's called Moviepod and costs $10 for the full version, or you can download a free trial like I did. There are plenty of places to get it http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/moviepod has both mac and PC versions.
This is a wonderful, easy to use product. I'm fairly sure it doesn't convert .wmv files, I had one of those and it didn't work. Was good on all my .mpg's.
    5th Gen iPod   Windows XP

The mpeg thing gave me red writing across all my clips, and the other one was not nearly as easy to use.
Hey, I'm just trying to help. I'm sure a lot of people like myself would have bought an iPod video, and expected to be able to watch their music videos on it. This product allows you to do that in a few minutes. I would have been happy if this product was recommended to me.

  • How can i get the audio working again?

Did a hard drive replacement on my ibook a few weeks ago and being as careful as i possibly could the audio connector still pulled off of the logic board. Even when the connector was off of the logic board i still had trouble separating the two pieces. I put a tiny drop of superglue on the bottom of the connector and pushed it back onto the logic board trying to make sure the metal pieces touched the board. It was in place perfectly and to my dismay there is no sound on the laptop through the built in speakers. The headphone port still works but the built-in's don't. What would be the best way to go about this? Would it be possible just to wire the headphone jack wires to the built-in speakers wires? Thanks a lot

I think i found a pretty good temporary solution, in theory anyways. I took the cable off of a set of ipod cube speakers and stripped it to find three wires: red, blue, and copper. My plan is to splice this cable and the wires to the speakers inside of the ibook and then just run the headphone plug outside of the ibook and plug it into the headphone jack. It may look a little odd but if it works its better than having to plug in a set of external speakers which looks even more weird. My question is, i remember there only being a black and red wire coming from the ibook speakers but as i said earlier the wire from the cube speakers has blue, red, and copper. Does anyone know how i could splice the two together? I thought stereo channels had to have three wires (left, right, and ground)...are the ibook speakers only mono?

  • Troubles getting java to work on vista

    Hello!
I installed java jdk 6 and i got troubles making it work. I bet there is some issue with the path but everyway i try it seemse impossible to get it work. I had it working before i reinstalled laptop but now i dont rember how i get it working can someone please let me know what to do after the isntallation. where to type and how. maybe there is something i got thats making it not work in the enviorments variables.

Find where you installed java. Inside that folder is another folder called 'bin'. Add the full path to that bin folder to your Path system variable, followed by a semicolon to separate it from the other members of your path variable. For me, I have this:
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_06\bin;To test if it worked, go to your command line (type "cmd" in the run box and hit enter) and type "java -version".

  • Trouble getting wireless to work with new D-Link DIR-655 wireless router

I have the Mac Pro with the Leopard operating system. I just recently bought a DLink DIR-655 wireless router to use with my internet. All my PC's can get online just fine, but my Mac is painfully slow and sometimes disconnects altogether. Is there some settings I need to figure out in order to make it work correctly?
    Please help

I for one am having constant problems since I returned from a July honeymoon. All was good with a “Draft-N” D-Link router, but since returning I’ve had many, many connection failures WIRED. I have no Airport card in my Mac Pro 8 core. Same setup as when I left and all was well: Cable Modem>D-Link (NOW the sam DIR-655. Thanks, CostCo). CAT 5 to: Mac Pro, HP 2605DN printer, and connected to my hard-wired system to two rooms in my house.
Here’s a big clue for me. When I reboot into a bootable backup drive I haven’t updated since May 30, I seem to have no problems. Also, on the normal boot drive, my MobilMe (ugh) mail account was giving me fits. I deleted and tried to have it automatically fill in the settings as it used to, but now I need to supply all other sorts of info and can’t restore it. One last thing, if it helps. On my normal, badly-working boot drive, the iDisk says “MobilMe” On the older drive I’m on now it says dontruett.
I’d welcome advice. I’m taking a guess that some update I did since May 30 cause this and am ready to clone the working drive back to the main boot drive, losing a bunch of things in the process.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.

  • Can't get HDMI to work on laptop

dv5-1017nr laptop, 64 bit, vista sp1, Intel P8400, GeForce 9200M GS.  I can't get any output on the HDMI port.  I've tried different cables and different tv's.  First tried booting up with cable hooked up and tv on.  Tried the FN+F4 to toggle display and an image comes up in rh bottom of PC display that shows a laptop and an arrow to a tv.  I tried the Personalize Display Settings to change display.  What am I doing wrong?  I did also try to resolve through the HP online chat- he had me go through the same steps then suggested loading the latest Intel chipset drivers after resetting the BIOS.  I reset the BIOS to default fine.  I tried downloading the chipset drivers but get the error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing software".  I tried loading the previous version and got the same message. I did manage to reload the nvidia drivers OK.
Is this something simple that's different with vista to toggle displays?  I'm really starting to not like this computer (

Are the cables 1.3 or higher?
Try updating the drivers using the following link, assuming you don't have the most recent: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-67044-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
    Finally, try these steps:
       (a) Turn OFF both TV and laptop
       (b) Connect cable both ends
       (c) Turn ON the TV, If required use TV menu to accept signals from PC (laptop) even using HDMI1/2/3 ...
       (d) Turn ON the laptop, go to Display you should see TWO screens (1 and 2), select the TV
