Trouble getting Mac Address Book to sync fully into iPod Contacts

I have a new fifth generation iPod and iTunes 7.0.2. I have had my iPod for ~2months and most of the time I have been struggling to get my Address Book to syncronize into my iPod contacts list. The behavior since the first sync has been that get 18 contacts appear in my iPod when I am trying to get all 331 from my Address Book.
Things that I have tried...
- Restoring the iPod to original factory settings
- Adding new contacts - no change to iPod list
- Updating fields in existing contacts
- deleting All (Address Book, iTunes , iPod , iApps, iSync) preferences
Any other suggestions?

I said that last one wrong. AddressBook accempted all 8,000 of my Filemaker records. It was the iPod that would only accept 4,000 when I sync-ed. Does the iPod have a limited on 4,000 contacts?
Bobby (or anyone)....one more issue. I may have dumb something dumb. After importaing 4,000 records into AddressBook, I naturally wanted to upload to my .Mac site so I could then sync this new Contact file with my office and laptop Macs. My office and laptop are the two Macs that I routinly sync for songs, photos, calendars, etc. Unfortunately, I did this calendar upload last night from another Mac that is NOT used for iCal. So guess what. When I uploaded the contact items, it also sync-ed the Mac's calendar. Since that Mac had no calendar entries, all my calendar entries got deleted from .Mac. Stupid, stupid, stupid. In need to figure out now how to upload and sync ONLY contacts or ONLY calendar items. I'm hoping that when I get back to work (which has all the calendar items in iCal), I can somehow upload ONLY the calendar stuff and have it replace what's now on .Mac. Not sure how to do that, since normally sync-ing involves downloading the .Mac data to your computer. -- david

  • Address book not syncing on old iPod??

    Hi - Can anyone help?
I have a new mac mini and it will not let me sync my address book to my older iPod.  I have never had problems before.  I have it set up to sync in iTunes, I press the sync button, and nothing.  Any ideas?  Thanks for you response in advance.

Can't help, but I have the same problem from an iMac. Previously in the info section where the contacts bit is, it would list the categories you've set up in address book and give you the option to select particular categories. It's now just an empty box.
Suspect it's something to do with iTunes rather than the ipod.

  • Address Book not Syncing to my Google Contacts?

In the pref. of Address Book I have selected synchronized with Google. As I make changes (either way) neither my Google contacts update or my address book entries.
What is the issue - am I missing something?

    Quick update:
Just learned that I can remove that icon clicking on it while pressing the Command Key
But still, if anyone knows how to solve the issue of the missing iSync app, it would be of great help.
    Cheers,

  • How can i sync mac address book w/ outlook for mac 2011

Is it possible to have the address book in Outlook for Mac 2011 sync w/ the Mac address book?  I cleaned up my contacts in the Mac address book expecting the changes to show up in my outlook address book.  Made over 200 changes that did not show up on the Outlook address book.  Seems like there should be a way to make this work.  If I add contacts from within Outlook, I'd like them to show up on all my devices.  MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm new to this platform as I was a PC guy for the last 30 years.

I've got Outlook up and running just fine.  Still have the problem with getting duplicate emails but I'm waiting on MS to get a fix for that in an update.  Apparently that has been an ongoing issue.  I've been in contact w/ a senior MS Outlook tech on that.  I guess I'll just have to make sure that all contact adds/edits are done in Outlook.  Then I can sync my phone or iPad and get the cloud to update the other Apple devices off that sync.  Either that or figure out how to export from the Mac address book to the Outlook address book once in a while.

  • IPhone contacts and Mac address book don't sync

If I add an entry on the phone and later sync with the mac the new entry doesn't show up in the Mac address book.  If I delete a contact on the Mac address book it doesn't delete on the iPhone.
I have the right choices made (at least I think I do) in itunes under "info".

Not without syncing on connection via USB.
As you have an iPhone 3G you cannot install iOS 5 and make use of iCloud.
iCloud would update entries you make on one device appear on the other.
For iCloud you need a device on iOS 5 and 10.7.2 for your Mac.

  • I can, I can't get my address book to snyc with my ipad2.  I'm using Outlook express 2004.  I followe the steps in itunes, but still no contacts.  Any suggestions?

Can't get my address book to sync to IPAD2.  Using Outlook Express 2004.  I followed the steps in Itunes, but still not contacts.  Any suggestions?

Mine is doing the exact same thing, and nobody on any of these threads has had any luck fixing it yet, so far as I can tell. iSync is worthless since it simply won't see the ipod and basically is not used at all now as .mac is done through its own preference window. What did work for me, and was quite easily done, was to just open your ipod through the finder and delete the vcard data in the contacts folder. Export your contacts from address book as a vcard to that contacts folder on your ipod, and it all works fine.
Still won't sync...but at least this only takes a minute to do. I'd like to actually fix it though.

  • Subscribed address book not synced to iPhone

I shared my address book with my wife, and she subscribes to it. Unfortunately, the shared contacts do not make it to her iPhone during a sync. Any Ideas why?
Also, what's the difference between subscribing to a mac address book and syncing using mobileme?
    Thanks!

I also have this issue. My contacts sync fine from the computer to Mobileme, but the groups don't sync to the iphone. This leaves me with an empty "Groups" window as described by eltons. If I sync through itunes, with Mobileme contacts sync off on the iphone, the groups show up.
Any ideas? Is this consistent with the original post?

  • Custom image from Address book not syncing to Exchange.

I am running Mac OS X v 10.7.5. I have added custom images to contacts in address book. I have an Exchange account which will sync the data (ie name, address, email) but not the custom image. Is there away to have custom images sync to Exchange/Outlook?

I'm Running Mac OS X Lion, and have seen that changes made in the mac address book do not sync to gmail contacts but changes to gmail contacts do sync to the mac address book.
Making a change to a contact on my phone does sync to gmail contacts, and then to the mac address book.
Another test I ran was to change the same contact in gmail and mac address book.  I made a change to a mobile number and notes in one contact on my mac address book, attempted to sync, and the change does not appear in my gmail contacts.  I tried multiple times, restarted my web browser, restarted mac address book, the sync would not work.  I changed the same contact mobile number in gmail with a slightly different change to the notes field so I could see when an update occurred, and when I told mac address book to sync it recognized a conflict. When I select the mac address book change to resolve the conflict, the gmail contact is not updated.  When I repeated the experiment and selected the gmail contact to resolve the conflict the change is made in the mac address book.

  • Copying Outlook Contacts to Mac Address Book

I've searched through the forums and whilst this topic is raised quite a few times it hasn't really been answered.
I have got 3500+ contacts on my work PC in Outlook. I have installed Outlook for Mac 2011 on my new imac and I have the full contacts copied across into it.
However when I sync my iphone with my new imac I cannot sync the Contacts with Outlook as it doesn't give me that option.
The question is how do I copy my contacts into the mac Address book.
I have all the contacts saved as a PST file. I have also copied all the contacts individually as .MSG files. It would appear from previous questions that I need to save them as vcards which Outlook for Mac doesnt offer!
    Any top tips?
    Thanks

I've just had the same problem - after syncing my iPhone a couple of days ago I returned to find all my contacts (bar those added in the past couple of days) had gone...not the best time.
There didn't seem to be either any software that could do the job nor a way to export from Outlook 2011 to Address book (Lion) as iSync has now gone, nor a way to Export & Import other than via a CSV (text file) which would mean I'd lose all the associated photos,
That was until I worked out that
    Open Outlook 2011
Click on the Contacts button in the sidebar
Click [CMD] and A - to highlight all the contacts
on the top menu command 'Contact' click on 'Forward as vCard (cmd+J)
Email all your contacts to yourself as attached individual vCards attached to an email message.
Open up the email and save the attachments to a suitable directory on you computer (i.e. 'Outlook\backup\')
the next bit is so easy..
Drag and drop all the vCards into the LHS panel (you'll see a green dot with a white plus symbol in the centre) of the Address Book.
A few 'yes' answers to the questions regarding importing vCards and you've done.
    then
EXPORT the ADDRESS BOOK ARCHIVE TO A SUITABLE PLACE as a back-up!
    Hope this helps!!?

  • Address Book not syncing with Google Apps

so i thought this will be resolved after reinstalling 10.5.7 (i tried a lot of tweaks in the earlier installation to make this work) but it seems that even with a clean install it wouldnt work.
address book authenticates with google but no updates are being sent or recieved.
did anyone manage to get this working ? i have a feeling its not out of the box...

    Hi guys,
I have a similiar problem. My address booked has synced correctly with google contacts since 2 years
And suddenly it stopped syncing. Furthermore when I go to settings/acconts  I still find
my "Local" account where i configured my google account, but now the right window is empty.
There is no button to edit or show this account !!
(I mentioned this after update to 10.6.8, but I'm not sure if it worked shortly before doing the update)
    What could be wrong ?

  • How to sync iPhone 4 contacts to Mac address book

    Hello!
I can sync all my contacts from the Mac address book on my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 4. However, why does it not sync the iPhone contacts to the Mac address book? Should it not be like a two way sync? I was looking at the syncing options but it does give that option. I just want to make sure that I have the same contacts on my iPhone and Mac. I do understand that MobileMe does that. But till I can afford to have MobileMe, maybe there is another solution?
    Anybody... help!

I had a major drama doing this last night, have managed to restore my Address Book file with a backup after I mistakenly wiped all the contacts I had created on my iPhone. Yikes! I suggest when you sync your iPhone leave it plugged in after the sync until you check that the contacts are all where they should be. That way, the most recent backup that is done automatically when you plug in the iPhone will still have all your iPhone contacts should something go amiss and they can be restored. Also export your computer's Address Book (File>Export in Address Book) which should land in your Documents folder.
To get all my iPhone's contacts back into my Mac's Address Book, I created a group in my Mac Address Book called 'iPhones contacts'. When I synced the iPhone with my Mac, (Info tab>Sync Address Book Contacts in iTunes), I checked the box that says 'Add contacts created outside of groups on this iPhone to...' and checked the new 'iPhone contacts' group and when I synced, all the new contacts on the iPhone landed in my Mac's Address Book. Phew. Heartstopper!

  • I can not get imac w/Snow Leopard's address book to sync with ipad 1correctly? I only get about half the contacts?

I have tried repeatedly to get my address book on my imac w/ snow leopard to sync to my ipad 1 correctly and have failed every time. I only get about 1/3 the number of contacts and they don't all even correlate with the ones on the imac. Like one will have full middle name and the other only the initial. I don't know where itunes is getting these contacts but doesn't match those in my address book. I keep telling itunes to replace the contacts on the ipad with those on my mac but it doesnt work. Can't do it with icloud cause snow leopard doesn't support, it still wants to use the non existant mobile me format. Hope someone can help. I added the all amnually once before but they screwed up when I sync each time.

Thanks for your response Ernie. You are correct in that whenever you type a series of letters, Address Book (as it always has) finds every single thing with that combination of letters - Names, businesses, adjectives, people's dogs' names, letters in product serial numbers, etc. This is useful for finding a subject on the Web, or finding all documents related to 'iPhoto' on your Mac, etc., but not useful, quick or convenient when trying to find one person to call in your Address Book (which is what people use Address Book for).
What is DIFFERENT in the Snow Leopard version, is that the ability to type one letter to instantly go to last names with that letter has been removed. Previously, you could easily find 'Bill Tilman' in one second by simply typing 'T'. Now you get every word that starts with T and all the words in the card that have a T in them. If you type out a full name like 'Bill', it finds every person named Bill. No one would ever want to find all their contacts named Bill to call them. You could type out the full last name 'Tilman', but there again you are forced to type out a complete name to do a search. It would actually be quicker to scroll down and find it manually. The ability to type a single letter to find the last name (or business name) of a contact you needed to call, was much quicker and easier than having to type out the entire name.
