How can I get a Quicktime movie to play over a background slideshow?

I created a slideshow in PowerPoint 2003 a few years ago and would like to update it using Keynote '09. PowerPoint had a "play once" and a "Play in foreground" option that let the movie play in the same spot continuously until the last of the 21 slides are displayed. The slides were timed with background graphics and lyrics that matched the song being sung in the Quicktime movie.
It's a song my daughter wrote and performed and it's something I think could be vastly improved using Keynote's amazing transitions, etc.
When I tried simply importing the presentation from PowerPoint, the video will start to play but when the second slide is displayed, the video is no longer visible. I tried to set Keynote to play it on all slides, but that just restarts the audio to a "row row your boat" round kind of thing. The video doesn't play on the remaining slides.
Is there a way to make this happen?

That's a shame. It takes some tweaking, but PowerPoint can do this. I know it's not something that is needed all the time, but it's something I've needed on a few occasions. I wonder how well the timing would work out if I broke the video up into sub clips and simply assigned a clip to each slide? It's a lot more work and I suspect I'll pick up some clips and pops during the slide changes.
Keynote is still far better at what it does than PowerPoint, but do I ever wish it could do this so I could really show it off to people.

Having Trouble Getting Charts to Format by Date over 2 Years

Using the preview of PowerBI Dashboard, using the SSAS Connector. Connected to a SSAS Tabular model.
The model is simple, a fact table and a date dim.
I want a bar chart with MM-YYYY that spans 2 years, along the X-axis.
In the Date Dim of the Tabular model, I've sorted (using the column sort feature) a column that contains MonthYear (Jan-2014 format) using the MMYYYY column as the sort'er.
Yet, no matter how I sort the MonthYear column, the web UI still creates the chart whereby: Jan-2014 is followed by Jan-2015, then Feb-2014, Mar-2014....Dec-2014.
I can't figure out how to sort the MonthYear column in the date dim to make PowerBI figure out that Jan-2014 is followed by Feb-2014, not Jan-2015.
Help please.

Sorry you've had problems with this! Try adding a column with the format YYYYMM and use that as the sorter:
201401
201402
201412
201501
201502
etc.
That should get your chart showing correctly.
It's common practice to include a DateDim column with YYYYMMDD to do this down to the day level. Hope that helps!

Getting a simple animation to play in IE

I am having trouble getting a simple animation to play properly, on a site designed by someone else, in IE. It works fine in Mozilla and Safari. In IE, on some computers, it shows up but there is a prompt about downloading a Shockwave add-on. On other computers it doesnt show up at all. Going from Mac to PC is also presenting problems. I'm freelance, so it's not like I'm in the office with these other people, so I only know what's going on with the 3 pc's I have at my disposal; which is as described above. I tried uploading another .swf with just 1 frame to see what would happen and it did the same thing. I'm starting to think it is a problem with the site and not the Flash.
If anyone could take a look at it and offer some help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help. I didn't even think about the .html file. Normally I send both but I thought they had that sorted (so I was told) out when it worked in Mozilla and Safari. I won't know until tomorrow if it worked, but thanks again.
Export your movies a Shockwave version or two behind, just to be on the safe side.
This I don't quite get. Normally I publish and send .swf and .html and send them and everything works.

I can see the music, it is in a lighter font and appears to still be there but will not play. When placed on shuffle it will skip right over this music. I have already paid for this music and have been able to play it at one time but that was before the update. Why can I not listen to this music anymore?

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over the last few days, I assume that there has been a problem with Apple's servers.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

Having trouble getting my music to play, this really annoys me because I spent MY money on itunes for these songs and suddenly they won't work anymore. They've worked in the past so I don't understand what could be going wrong. Only the songs that I've synced to my device from CDs work. I select a song hit the play button and nothing happens, it doesn't work with or withought earphones in. I've tried recycling my device multiple times too and I haven't dropped it recently so I don't know what the problem is. Please help me understand and fix my problem. Thanks in advance

Basically, unplug the dock for ten seconds, then reset your phone. Voila! It worked for me. Hope that helps.

Trouble getting lines not to overlap after alignment

I'm having trouble getting lines to align so that there's no overlap. In the screenshot below, you can see that there are tiny black outline jutting over or above the colored lines. I've played with the corner, stroke and alignment settings to no avail. Any ideas?

That maybe an artifact that will not print did you try to zoom to high magnifaction?

I got this message: This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. I can't for the life of me get the TV shows to play. I went on iTunes and when to my purchases. Clicked on the episodes and the same message popped up. How do I get these to play? I also see my download box with an error message saying it has paused the download. I click unpause and it just pauses again. I have been able to get one of the episodes to play once through, but now it gives me the same message.

It's been months, so you may not care anymore, but you can't download songs from multiple Apple IDs over a 90 days period. Sorry, it's not allowed for legal reasons.

I can think of only one reason a song would be "converted" while it is being loaded on a shuffle.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, depending on iPod model, go to the Summary or Settings tab. There should be a setting there that says Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC (the 128 kbps part may be adjustable). If that checkbox is checked, try unchecking it.
NOTE: This setting may allow more songs to fit on the shuffle, but for any converted song, the sound quality will become inferior. So I don't use it.

Help - sound stream from one clip playing over stream from another.

I have a layout with narration and a nav bar. When I click a nav button for section 2, the audio from section 1 (set to stream) continues to play over the audio for section 2. This cumulates so if I click buttons for sections 3, 4 and 5, I get five audio files playing on top of each other. Please HELP! Sections are individual movie clips with embedded audio streaming on a Sounds layer in each movie clip.

Thanks, yeah, I'm not great on Actionscript, but I can work my way through it (AS3). Currently the sounds are just in a sound layer on the timeline and aren't controlled by actionscript. So if I put SoundMixer.stopAll(); in the first frame of each section, I need sound play() to start the new audio? Each section has several narrations that are timed to the animations on the timeline, so rather thatn having the sound in the timeline, I need to trigger them with the actions script? How would I code this - say my sound file is named sound22.aif would this be correct?

Hi Christina, belated welcome to Apple Discussions if nobody said it already.
I've had some experiences with these new flash memory recording camcorders, and I'll give you a quick rundown of what I've learned. Many of them (JVC, Panasonic, etc.) tend to record in a .MOD file format, which is non-standard, proprietary, and unrecognizable by most software. I thought Canon was usually a little more standards-compliant, but it appears they also use this .MOD format in your specific camera model. There are likely a couple ways we can get around this though!
In order to play the files, you will likely need to change their file format (.MOD) to .AVI manually. You'll have to locate the files on your Mac, and then manually change the file names so that the file extension (after the period) is .AVI
At that point, a video player application such as http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html>VLC should play the files fine!
You should be able to transfer new video files from the camera to the Macbook Pro with no problems as well. Just plug in the camera to the computer via USB, and also make sure the camera is plugged in to charge. Once it's plugged in, open iMovie (came with the MBP, in the Applications folder) and the MBP should take care of the rest.
