Trouble "getting" photos in PSE 8 Organizer

I'm trying to bring photos into PSE 8 Organizer. I've used PSE 5 and 6 with no problem. Now I've upgraded my computer to a new, 64-bit Windows 7 computer (Dell Inspiron), and a new PSE 8. I've imported my PSE 6 catalog with, apparently, no trouble.
Now when I try to get new files, I can't select them in the "Get Photos and Videos" window. I can see the files I want, but when I try to click to select them, they either won't select at all, or they select the folder above or below the one I want, or they select a different folder and show a duplicate of the same folder, or the folder I want disappears.
It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen!
Any ideas what's happening???

Hmm, haven't heard of those symptoms before.
As a workaround, try dragging individual files, selections of multiple files, or entire folders into the Organizer.  Does importing them that way work?

  • Get Photos from PSE 7

If I'm to make the leap to LR (and likely DNG), I'll require it to support the work I've already put into the PSE7 Organizer.  I see that LR 2.4 supports PSE 6 and earlier; I find it odd/concerning that LR 2.4 would not support getting photos from the PSE 7 DB structure.  Am I being punished for keeping current on PSE?  Should I upgrade less frequently ?

Thanks for the response.  I found a similar discussion thread re PSE7 import capabilities after posting my request above.
My thinking/wish was that a point release would address PSE7 issue since its all Adobe software.  On one side, I'd like to think that improving operability with other Adobe products shouldn't require a major enhancement - yes, the DB data model is different, but its still all Adobe's intellectual property.  On the other side, PSE7 isn't that old so I'll continue to orgainize using PSE7 knowing that Lightroom has comparable organization capabilties and the ability to save me hours/day of my time managing and cleaning up my life's work of digital photos.  It's not that I can't accomplish the same tasks with PS 9 and PSE7, its that Le simplifies the tasks by focusing on photography rather than artistic design.  The adjustment brush is amazing.
By the time Lr3 comes out, I'll be due to upgrade my CS2. Could be an Adobe Christmas this year.

  • Moving To Specific Photos In PSE 10 Organizer

When I am in PSE 10 Organizer looking at a particular photo and I want to look for and access another photo I scroll into a view that has a number of photos visible at one time on my screen. I double click on the next photo I want to deal with and voila! It takes me back to the previous photo I was working on. I then try the same process over again and the second time it usually works. Why is this? Is there a bug in the program? Is there are way of accessing a fix. It is very annoying.

    Hi,
There's no such bug. I mean navigation between files is the most operation one would do, how can that be buggy
You can double click an image to view it in Single Image View and use keyboard arrow keys to navigate left/right/up/down. Also double clicking an image which is fully zoomed out takes you back to previous zoom-in state where all thumbnails were visible.
You may also  try other views to arrange you media in grid - Thumbnails, Import Batch, Date View, Folder Location. These are available in 'Display' dropdown present on the top right corner of the application.

  • How do you tell the total number of photos in PSE 11 Organizer

I have used PSE 9 and there was a line at bottom that told the total number of photos in the Organizer.  I now have PSE 11 and I can find no such line, and I have not found a way to tell the total number of photos in my Organizer.  Where is this information hidden?
    Thanks for you help.

You should see it bottom left of Organizer.

  • Trouble getting photos from iphoto to iPhone

A few months back I had updated my iphone to 4.3.2 (somewhere around there) and it began transferring only a very small subset of the photos from photo to my phone.  After the sync, it would say something to the effect of "Image "DSC_00112" could not be transfered to the iPhone".  However, when I opened open photos on the iphone, only about 450 photos of my 3100 photo library were on the phone.  I read some details in the past that there were others with this problem but that upgrading solved the problem.  Today I upgraded to iOS 5 hoping the problem would resolve.  Now when I choose to sync all photos, it doesn't even give me a dialogue box anymore, but still only a small subset of the photos in my photo library cross over to my iphone.... I don't really know why the phone is not allowing most of my photos to transfer, and I have no notion of how to fix it.  Have tried multiple fixes, including manually selecting albums to transfer, repairing iphoto permissions, etc.  Any help or knowledge on the subject would be greatly apprecaited.
    Thanks,
    Dane

  • How do I transfer photos from PSE 12 to PSE 13 and do I uninstall PSE12?

I have downloaded PSE 13, and now need to move the photos in PSE 12 organizer to PSE 13.  Do I uninstall PSE 12 after photo transfer?

PSE12 simply mirrors your folders on the hard drive of your computer. The Organizer stores nothing physically; simply making links to your folders.
Try copying outside Elements from the OS to Kindle.
Otherwise you probably need to contact Amazon.

  • PSE 8 Organizer: Bug in "Get Photos and Videos from Files and Folders"

In PSE8 Organizer, I have a weird bug that occurs when I am using Get Photos and Videos from Files and Folders on certain folders on my hard drive. If the "Files of Type" filter is left as the default ("Media files (photos, audio, video)"), whenever I click on a file in the file browser, three or four files or folders seem to disappear from the folder. I can keep clicking on different items until every file and folder has apparently vanished from the folder. Looking in Windows Explorer, the files and folders are still there, and if I switch the "Files of Type" filter to "All Files", everything reappears and the behavior no longer occurs.
I'm not sure why only certain folders show this behavior. It may have something to do with the types of files or folders in the folder I'm looking at, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone else seen this happen?

Are you on Win 7? If the files in the Get Photos dialog disappear after you select them, confirm if the names of selected files/folders is shown under the File name . If yes, you can import these files by clicking Open. You should find the issue addressed in E9.
    Thanks

You need to spend some time with Help> Getting Started. You can create many categories and sub-categories in your tags, the Organizer fixes you refer to are still there - click Instant Fix at bottom right, and if you convert your existing catalog then all those existing tags will come across with them (although People, Places & Events are handled differently from 8 & 9. And you don't have to store anything in the cloud if you don't want to.

  • I am trying to import photos into PSE 12 from folders on my desktop, which are organized by broad topics--family, vacations, etc..  Many of my photos are located in several folders.  When I try to import them to PSE I get a message saying some photos were

I am new to PSE 12 and am trying to import my photos from folders on my desktop which I have organized by the categories I had in my previous program (Creative Memories).  Many of my photos are located in multiple folders, i.e. one photo could be in "Family," Vacations" and "Birthdays."  When I try to import the contents of each folder on my desktop I am often getting the message that many of my photos were not imported as they are already in my catalog.  Is there a way that I can import any one photo multiple times so that it ends up in all the folders I want it to be in?  I know I can locate the photo in PSE and copy it to a different folder(s), but there are so many not being imported that this would be a huge task!

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

  • Can't Get Photos in Organizer 7

    I'm running PSE7 on Windows XP SP3.
I created a movie with my camera.
I downloaded the .avi file to my pc.
Then I brought the .avi file into Windows Movie Maker.
I captured four still images from the .avi file and created .jpg's from them.
So I ended up with four jpg's.
I then tried to do a 'Get Photos' in Organizer by navigating to the folder with the images.
When I tried to import them I got an error indicating that the files were either already
in the catalog or they were not the correct type.
I checked the catalog by filename (using Find) and the files were not there.
Then I opened the file in PSE Editor. They opened fine.
I then Saved them using the option to include in Organizer.
The images now show up in Organizer just fine.
Any ideas whey my jpg's were rejected by Organizer initially?

Here's what I think the problem is.
WMM adds a couple of pieces of EXIF data to the image.
One is 'Date Modified' and the other is 'Firmware Version'.
If I modify the 'Date Modified' information with an EXIF editor I can then
successfully Import the jpg into Organizer.
The WMM tag looks like 'Sun Jul 12 09:46:20 2009'.
The EXIF editor (Exifer) changes that tag to look like:
    'Sunday, July 12, 2009'
    '09:46:20 AM'.
My guess would be that PSE7 Organizer doesn't like the way that tag
    is constructed by WMM.
I did try Premier Elements for capturing my jpg's. That seems to
work fine. The jpg's get placed back into Organizer.
I'll have to practice a bit more with PE to see if I can get
comfortable with using it. PE seems to have a lot more
    functions.

  • PSE 9: can't "get photos" from my scanner

I'm running PSE 9 on a Mac using OS-10 Lion.  In Organizer, I try to get photos from my Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner, but that option is not available in the drop down window.  I have installed all the Epson programs; Twain, Epson Scan, Event Manager, etc., but it still won't work.  How can I get this to work?
    Ron

You don't "download", really. You just move the plug-in that is already there. I gave the mac directions above.
In Windows, go to C:\Program Files [Program Files(x86) for 64-bit systems]\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export, find the Adobe TWAIN driver, and move it to C:\Program Files [Program Files(x86) for 64-bit systems]\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Locales\en_US (this will be different if you aren’t in the US)\Plug-Ins\Import-Export.

  • PhotoShop Organizer Freezes when "Getting Photos" finishes

The Organizer opens and another window opens titled “Files Ready for Import”.
With or without the box checked the only thing to do is click OK.
That starts a window titled “Getting Photos”. If there are Photos to load the progress bar fills and apparently the photos are added to the organizer but the window locks up and even the stop button does nothing. The Task Manger must be used to kill the Organizer process. This tries to run even when no new photos are available. I can not get into the Organizer to disable the "Watch Folders".
I have tried to uninstall and re-install the Photoshop Application but it made no difference.
Please see the attachment for further details and the Adobe response... or lack thereof.
Does anyone know a way to Disable the Watch function?
I would rather add the required folders/photos to the catalog manually when needed than fight this.

The screen shot from your original post was missing -- I should have asked about that before assuming the problem was really watched folders.  I bet the window you're seeing looks like this:
This comes not from the Watch Folders feature but from the Adobe Photo Downloader, which downloads photos from cameras and scanners.
Apparently what's happened is that PSE terminated after the APD downloaded some photos but before they got imported into the catalog.  Now every time you start PSE, it first tries to import those photos, which is crashing PSE for some reason before the photos get fully imported.
To break this cycle, delete the contents of the following folder:
    Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\APDLogs
    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\APDLogs
(I'm not positive about the XP folder -- I'm translating from the location on my Vista machine.)  I bet there's a .xml file in that folder that contains the list of files that PSE is trying to import.

I'm having trouble loading photos on my I phone 4s and I pod.  I don't see the photos tab in I-tunes? I'm sure its user error but wanted to get some help.

What's the origin of this external drive? It sounds very much like it's a Windows-formatted (NTFS) drive which Macs can't write to. If you can, copy the files off the drive, reformat it as Mac format (using Disk Utility) and copy the files back. If you need to continue writing to it from a Windows PC, you should format it ExFAT in Disk Utility.
