Trouble getting SPDIF with Xi-Fi Xtreme Audio

-Trouble getting SPDIF with Xi-Fi Xtreme Audio? Hey guys,
I'm going crazy here, bought today a <span class="smallColor8">Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-Express, the idea was to go toslink from card digital out to my receiver and to bitstream dolby digital and DTS... as I said that was the idea...
<span class="smallColor8">First problem, the CD was broken, no biggie went to the website and got myself the drivers - XFXA_PCDRV_LB__04_0000.exe? I installed that, rebooted and was welcomed by the updater application, I went to check what was there and most of it seems unecessary, I found a bit strange that it was telling me I needed the file I just installed, but I selected everything that was critical and launched the +250mb update (yuck) and I was very happy to see it was downloading at 30kbps (...)
<span class="smallColor8">After installing all that and rebooting I went in the control pannel to look for the SPDIF option but couldn't find anything relevant so went to read the manual and the first thing it says is click the decoder tab... and well I don't have a decoder tab, it's simply not there...
<span class="smallColor8">I thought I made a mistake, so I uninstalled everything, by the way this thing is a freaking nightmare to uninstall properly and this time went step by step making sure I wasn't missng a point and guess what I spent another 2 hour downloading at year 992 speeds, but got to the very same result, the decoder tab is not here.
<span class="smallColor8">So far it has been very frustrating but I'm some of you guys will make it all ok with a simple fix :P
<span class="smallColor8">I run windows XP SP3, already gave you sound card I use and driver I downloaded, If you need anything else just ask, I'll be around
<span class="smallColor8">Thx

First you talk about DAC, this is precisely what I'm trying to avoid, this is a 50$ card, I have a 7'000$ receiver I obviously want the digital to analog conversion to be done by the receiver, same goes for the decoding, actually I never expected a card this cheap to decode anything, I just want it to send the digital sound bit per bit (or bitstream) to receiver, it will do the DAC and Dolby/DTS decoding and of course it will do it much better
A card with a 48kHz-only DAC, that also puts out SPDIF, will put out 48kHz SPDIF in sync with the input, which means unless audio operations are attempted on a 48kHz encoding before it is sent to the card, which will destroy the encoding, it will be passed through without alteration.
The specs on the card's DACs don't look that bad. I for one wouldn't assume that those functions on your receiver are going to be that much better, and Dolby/DTS decoding is either done right or doesn't work at all. If I were you, I'd do a comparison test before making that particular assumption.
So what you're saying is simply using the card even though I don't see anything related to SPDIF should be enough and applications will take care of the bitstream, I use AC3filter with reclock and indeed I can select the audio device, but it ain't working at all.
There may be a problem with the AC3filter/ReClock combination. To check this, you could try playing a DVD with an "ordinary" player that has an SPDIF output selection.
When you say it ain't working at all, what exactly is happening?
BTW, if you are using AC3filter to make AC3 on the fly, you are probably doing extra encoding/decoding steps using a lossy encoding just to use your receiver's decoder, to which I personally would prefer using the card's analog outs connected to a receiver's multichannel inputs, unless comparison testing unexpectedly demonstated the extra encoding sounded better to me.
You keep saying this *basic card*, I was under the impression that creative was only doing basic card, if there's another model that will work out of the box to bitstream digital sound, please give me the reference number, I'll be happy to throw this card out my window and get one that works
An audio cable can do DD/DTS passthrough. Like a cable, your card is simple enough that its hardware will do passthough if fed a valid 48kHz encoding. CL's smarter cards have onboard mixing and use hardware sample-rate-conversion techniques any of which can destroy an encoding. These cards have to be put in a special mode which bypasses all that to accomplish passthrough successfully because by default they will destroy encodings.

  • Having trouble getting started with my new shuffle

I am having trouble getting started with my new shuffle. any help?

    Hey there Feisty59,
It sounds like you have a new iPod Shuffle, and want to know how to start using it. Here is a great resource for understanding how to use your iPod, and how to set it up and get music synced to it from iTunes:
    iPod shuffle User Guide

  • Final Cut Pro X export troubles: exports video with only half the audio.

Ever since I updated Final Cut Pro X, I've been having problems exporting. I either get error messages or the audio doesn't fully export. When I tried exporting a master file to my desktop, I got a message saying “error occurred when creating frame” then lists the frame number. Someone suggested copying the project file and pasting it into a new project. I did that, and it exported without the error popping up; but halfway through the video, the audio disappears, and does so in the same spot it disappeared in a previous youtube export before I tried the copy/paste method. I don't have the original footage; I'm making color correction changes to an edit; so I'm not sure if the second half of the video is somehow corrupted, don't know how to check that, and not sure what to do if it is.
Another suggestion given to me was to delete the event my footage is in, then create a new event, re-upload all the footage into that one, and relink my project files to it. He also said don't delete my event and project folder at the same time, which I'm not even sure how you simultaneously delete two things on a laptop. I don't understand how this method would work though, since deleting the event makes my project disappear since it has nothing to link to. I'm scared to try this method since I don't want to lose my work; I really don't want to color correct it all over again.
Is there any way to successfully export the file suitable for youtube posting, or is this a bug in the system they haven't fixed yet?

    Just turned off background rendering.
I'm not certain what you mean for specs in a specific point in the video, but here are the specs for the entire edit I initially received:
    Dimensions: 1920 X 1080
    Codecs: H.264, AAC, Timecode
    2 Audio Channels
    Total bit rate: 12,083
Size: 951,735,770 bytes (951.7 MB on disk)
Here are the specs for the exported video that has the audio issue:
    Dimensions: 1920 X 1080
    Codecs: H.264, AAC, Timecode
    2 Audio Channels
    Total bit rate: 12,274
Size: 966,817,082 bytes (966.8 MB on disk)
The video is 10:28 minutes long and the audio leaves at 5:57.
If that wasn't what you were looking for, just let me know. I'm not very good with technical stuff sometimes so may have misunderstood.
Is there something I should have done to the piece before I began color correcting it, like transcoding?

  • No bass on Windows 7 32-bit with X-Fi Xtreme Audio

I just upgraded from the Windows 7 64-bit beta (where everything was working fine) to Windows 7 Ultimate Retail 32bit, and I am having the issue of no bass. I had this issue with the beta, but to fix it I disabled full range speakers. I tried that here, and it still isn't working. I've tried enabling bass redirection, bass boost, and I've even tried daniel_k's support pack. Still no luck.
    I hope somebody can help.

A little different story here but the same result :
    - Windows Seven Professional 64bits Edition (French)
    - X-Fi Xtreme Gamer (lastest driver 2.8.003?)
And of course one big issue : no bass/subwoofer doesn't work. Browsing on the Internet and on the Creative forums seems that this issue is common under Windows Seven.... :/
    Any help/clue/offical word ?
    Many Thanks in advance !

  • Trouble getting started with gift of photoshop cs3+

I received a gift from a friend--a year's worth of monthly payments. When I try to download, it only gives me a trial version. Is this correct? What do I do?

There is no such thing as "monthly payments" for the obsolete and unsupported Photoshop CS3+—and there never was one.  Did you mean Photoshop CC (a.k.a. Photoshop 14.x)?  If not, please elaborate.
If you downloaded CS3 Extended, you're never going to get it to work with a subscription model serial number for Photoshop CC.

  • Trouble getting started with my New iPad2

Bought an iPad 3G 64... Do I need to upgrade my operating system on my G5 OSX 10.4.11 to OSX 10.5?  How do I do this and how much will it set me back?

Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    iTunes 10.2 or later recommended
    (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
Yup , Those r the iPad requirements , I can't say how much with out really doing a search, and checking the requirements, I'm sure others will reply with good input

  • Trouble getting started with AX

I'm sorry if this issue has been addressed early; in perusing earlier posts I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I have purchased an AX and want to inlcude it in my home wireless network, which uses a Neatgear wireless router. I've plugged the AX into the wall and get a blinking amber light which I believe means it cannot find a connection. When I go into the Airport Setup Assistant I only get information about Airport Base Stations - no apparent way to set up the AX.
So, my question is how do I proceed?
    Thanks.

Problem solved. I moved to a machine connected wirelessly and through some trial and error was able to get thing set up. I have to say this is one of the less intuitive things Apple has done (but it works great, including using Airfoil to send non-iTunes music to remote speakers).

  • Need help with X-FI Xtreme Audio PCI-Express

Well, I installed this soundcard in windows 7/64 bits, and in the creative folder in start menu it only shows:
    Creative Diagnostics
    Creative Media Toolbox
    Creative Software Autoupdate
    Creative Wavestudio 7
    Creative Audio Control Panel
    Alchemy
    Creative Media Source 5
When I connect my microphone it gives me no sound at all. So, I search for the Audio Console and it'ss not showing anywhere.
When I select autoupdate it tells me that I have the last versions of all.
What?s missing, where is the audio console?
Where can I found entretainement mode?
    Thanks for the help.

Yes. Just remember if you ever want to install a tv tuner card you will have to choose between the 2.

according to Software Update I am up to date - the Safari update was installed on 4/1 - can't remember if this problem started then -  possibly.

This all came up as I am having scanner/printer issues since Maverick as well. I have been trying to fix that

  • Trouble getting started with Creative Cloud

After my trial ended, I started a subscription to Creative Cloud. Various apps show they are updated but where are the downloaded apps? I can't find any of them to launch. The trial was so easy.

Which operating system are you on?
On Windows you should be able to launch the programs from the Start Menu. On Mac OS X you should be able to launch the programs from the Applications folder. The Launch links in the Adobe Application Manager (AAM) are just a convenience links to use after the initial installs. After AAM is restarted those links go away.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Expr

hi all?i was wondering if people could let me know how the drivers for the below card?http://uk.europe.creative.com/produc...9&product=6770?are on xp and vista? i have an auidgy 2 zs plat atm but when i have it in my pci slot it gets too close to my ati HD 3870 card? by inches! which is causing it to get very hot. is it worth me upgrading to this card?would like to know anything and everything about how this card runs on xp and vista if some could help me out would be grateful?cheers

How it connects to the motherboard has nothing to do with it, the Xtreme Audio is still inferior to the Audigy 2 ZS in every way. The card is still a purely software dri'ven card, and if anything will cause performance loss due in games to having to process all game sounds/affects in software (processing is done by the cpu, not the sound card). Also the Xtreme Audio only supports up to EAX4; but guess what, so does your 2 ZS, only difference is your 2 ZS does the processing in hardware on the card.
Another point is your 2 ZS supports OpenAL nati'vely in hardware, and the Xtreme Audio had OpenAL support added recently in a driver update. Only difference is again, it is all done in software.
