Trouble getting video working right on HP 2133 netbook

I wasn't sure what forum to post this on. I doubt it's a problem with the netbook itself, more likely it's a problem resulting from my own ignorance so I'm posting here.
I wanted to get Arch running on my netbook for a while now, and finally sat down to get it going. I followed the beginner's guide, and got a (semi) functional system as a result. I installed my video driver (openchrome) and KDE successfully. I can start KDE fine, but the video is messed up. The loading splash screen comes up and looks beautiful. You couldn't tell there was any problem at all until it actually loads and gets to the workspace. It detects and sets my resolution correctly at 1280x768, but it's still screwed up. The default bottom panel and the KDE cashew both look smaller than they should be, but all programs and almost everything else is WAY too big, especially fonts. Most fonts are so gigantic that they take up more space than the container they are in, making it impossible to read anything. Generally, it looks like the kind of thing you would expect running at some incredibly small resolution, but KDE indicates it is at the correct resolution and the desktop generally appears to be roughly the correct resolution.
I tried Googling this problem and discovered that apparently the standard openchrome releases don't work on the HP2133 . but the unreleased versions do, so I uninstalled the x86-video-openchrome package from the repos and downloaded the very latest version of openchrome from the official SVN and compiled/installed it, but it's still screwed up like this. I'm using the auto-config version of xorg.conf
How can I fix this?

I put "nomodeset" on the end of my kernel line and rebooted but I don't see anything that changed, problem still persists.

Having trouble "getting" video from a DVD.

When trying to "get" video from a DVD I have recorded using a Magnavox DVD recorder, Premier Elements 4 will only import a portion of the video. The entire recorded video is viewable if I watch the DVD on a player so I know it is all there. This is only happening with video recorded on this one particular recorder. It is also only happening with Premier Elements 4. We also use Final Cut Pro and it works fine with DVD's from this recorder.
If anyone has any answers please let me know.

VCR/DVD burners can produce some mixed quality video files, Richard, particularly if they're recorded to a low quality disc (like Memorex).
The wisest move would be to convert those DVD files to DV-AVIs using a program like MPEG Streamclip or VirtualDubMOD (both free), per the FAQs at the top of this forum.

HELP!!! TROUBLE GETTING VIDEO PODCASTS EPISODE

Yes i am haveing trouble getting a video podcasts episode, it is with the globe podcast and popwar episode.
i click "get", and it starts to download and about half way through, up comes and error reporting message.
The message has two options "send error report", and "dont send" ive tried both but niether will let itunes continue with download, so idk what to do.

Well... only those type of error occur when iTunes has failed or crashed. What version of iTunes are you running? I have had no problems with Videos, Music, or Video Podcasts... but your problem could lie within these factors:
1. iTunes is out of date?
2. Internet Connection disconnected?
3. Too many programs running? (Not enough system resources - RAM)
4. There was another one but I lost it... :-P

Trouble getting video files into iPod Video

I am having trouble getting some video files onto my Video iPod.
Some videos will sync onto my iPod, some won't.
But, they are formatted the same way. And have the same extension.
The format for the files are:
Frame size: 320x240
Video: H.264
Audio: AAC
I see nothing in Quicktime's movie properties that is different between the videos that will, and will not transfer onto my iPod.
What do I need to change to make these files update onto my iPod?

I am having trouble getting sqlplus working on solaris 9 with oracle 10g

When I type the command sqlplus I get the following issue.
I am new to a Solaris 9 environment and also new to Oracle DB.
bash: sqlplus: command not found
What are the few things I should do, and is there any good references for me to look into.

Firstly, how do i know which generation my ipod is?
Secondly, i downoladed a video and when i sync my ipod, it does not go onto my ipod. Do i have to do anything first?

First you need to figure out which generation your iPod is. I am assuming since your posting in the Nano forum it is a Nano. Is it one of the brand new models that was just released recently? Or is it one of the taller/skinnier ones?
Video playback is not possible on the Nano prior to the new 3rd generation.
Ooops... sort of repeated what Meg said. Thats what happens when you get a phone call in the middle of posting lol.

Trouble getting videos on my IPod

I copied several movies to my computer, in MP4 format. When I try to get them on my IPod however, "not copied because the video format is not supported" comes up. What format is it talking about?

but something very strange occured : I put my video on itunes, I converted it for ipod, I was so able to put it on my ipod, I can read it from the ipod when the ipod is "in" itunes (even if the video is no more in the itunes library)
but when the ipod is no more linked to itunes, I can see the video in it but I cannot read it
I really do not understand
I am wondering if it is a question of weight of the video - it is a 2 hours movie
are we limited in videos ? and if yes, what is the maximum allowed ?

Options besides reinstall to get MBP working right?

I purchased my MBP in April 2011. It's currently running OS X 10.8.2. I haven't done any wipe/reinstall of the OS since it was bought. About 3 months ago, I started getting weird behavior.
Usually, when a window in the background is clicked, it comes forward. Lots of time, I have to click twice before the background window gets focus.
Another issue is sometimes I can't type into the Safari address bar. I begin typing and nothing happens. Then I click the title bar and move the Safari window. For about a second, nothing still happens. Then all of the sudden, the window flies over to where the mouse pointer is. Some kind of delayed response. At this point I can now type. Sometimes, the window I previously had focus on is moved instead.
I don't see these issues when I log into another (basic/clean) user account on the same MBP. I'd like to avoid a wipe/reinstall of the OS since it will take forever to get everything reinstalled and configured. I have run Disk Utility several times. I have done the hard (keyboard) reset (before boot up) with Apple. None of this has helped. Is there any cleaner software or something else I can do to avoid wipe/reinstall?
Possibly is the keyboard/trackpad failing?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Having trouble getting videos onto iPod

I have several AVI and MPG's of various TV shows on my PC. They won't open using iTunes, but they play fine with Media Player.
Is there an add in for iTunes to allow other formats? The support database claimes iTunes has a built in converter to change into the "iPod format", but I haven't been able to get that to work either.

Trouble getting video encoder to install

I installed the demo version of Flash 8, and the authoring
program installed fine. However, when I try to run the video
encoder, I get a message saying I don't have access to the
Config.msi file. My IT contact can't even find that file. Does

Having trouble getting mic working properly

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatalty Pro. I hooked up my mic in the flexijack and set my mode to game (I'm trying to use this with Steam's voice communications). It is doing unexplainable things though. I've disabled my onboard sound in the BIOS so I know it has nothing to do with this - it's all the X-Fi.
The mic picks up sound and transmits it straight through the speakers. I can't mute it at all, well I haven't found a way to so I'm looking for some help. Even in the Sound panel under Recording devices if I mute Microphone, Microphone FP, Digital In, and "What U Hear" I still get sound through the mic. I can't figure out what is possibly using it! When Microphone is enabled the sound meter doesn't change when I speak into it, so even though the flexijack is technically working it's like the drivers don't detect the mic is connected.
Please give me some suggestion. I'm all out of ideas.
I'm one of the Creative converts (who have now converted to other brands). Last Creative card I had was a Sound Blaster 2 Platinum. It was a wonderful card and my front panel died and Creative even replaced it out of warranty! As soon as I got this X-Fi it was problems from day . Wouldn't detect rear speakers for the longest time and about half the time I change audio effect settings in the Entertainment mode nothing happens, plus now this. Never again Creative...

Cant get videos working on my other itunes

hi there hope someone can help,
I have 2 macs, a mini plugged into my TV and my G4 tower for everyday use, but as this has a larger hardrive i store all my tunes and videos on this and has my ipod syncd. I have recently installed tubesock to download utube vids and some i have bought off itunes but they are on my mac mini, when i copy them over to my other mac and try to put them on my ipod it says i cant.

Your videos that you've downloaded or you made have another Format than iPod:-iPod,MPEG
-other,mp3(for example)
So you need to download on google an MPEG converter programm(easy to find).you convert your videos into MPEG and iTunes will accept the videos with the sound.lol

Well most of the school made tutorials that i've seen over years, didn't really have too much code, so it may not take much at all to get it working - it might even work straight away.
There's always some work required - but the pay off will be worth the effort.
Problems to look out for :-
can't use 3rd party xtras,
can't use embedded fonts,
can't have easy keyboard entry (you'll need to redesign everything for touch),
scroll text fields need a bit of reworking,
11khz sounds files need to be set higher,
some 8 bit graphics bomb out,
there are some lingo commands that just seem to bomb out the app (work around these with other lingo commands!)
embedded Flash objects need a little bit of work to get them working right,
videos need to be in swf format.
If you're only running them on (in school) iPads - i'd say go with the side loading option.
best not to bother with the app store - if you can.
There are a few other enterprise options that might also suit.

Videos work for like 10 seconds!

I updated my ipod long time ago and ever since then my ipod would not play videos right. they would play then stop and play with no sound. So i exchanged it but i ended up getting a new model that had the exact same problem. Is there a new update or anything that I can do to make the video work right?

first check the "about" screen on your ipod to find out what version of the ipod software is on there:
