Trouble importing after release of iMovie HD8

Has anyone else experienced problems importing on iMovie HD6 recently? I have never had trouble before, importing directly from miniDV tapes from my Canon camcorder but now iMovie stops intermittently. I am having a similar problem on my PowerMac desktop as well. Is this Apple's way of getting us to update to HD8?

Hi Samantha,
If you haven't changed anything on your computers lately, such as new software, then Apple has no way to influence what has been happening. Do you have sufficient hard drive space available? iMovie consumes about 13GB per hour of video and you should always have a "buffer" of at least 20GB to avoid problems, such as slowing down, or quitting unexpectedly.
Be very aware that iMovie 08 is not an upgrade, or update and is not called iMovie HD8 because it is nothing like the iMovie 06 you have.

  • HT3290 Video will not import after updating my iMovie from '09 to '11

I updated my imovie '09 to '11 and now my video files from my camcorder JVC (model GZ_MG330HU) will not import.  The video files show up in my iMovie library but when I try to create a project or movie and then share what I have created the files are listed as still on my camera and it says that I need to reimport.  It says to go the File Menu and click "Reimport from camera archive" but there is no such option.
I used to import my files with my old iMovie version and create mini home videos but now even those video files are not listed.  I would like to reload the old version.  How can I do that?  Will iMovie '11 get fixed?
    Help!

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
*Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export
*Import the HTML file in Firefox:<br>Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML
See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":

  • Having trouble importing .avi file to iMovie

When I import a .avi file tp iMovice, I get an error window that states: "Error during import. The file could not be imported: Unknown Error"
    Anybody can help? Thank you.

    Hi Lennart,
Thanks for your reply. First of all, please forgive me that I am a dummy in computer. My .avi file contains a video converted from a DVD (.vob file) by a software "XRay4". The "codec" when converted (I could see from the export window) is "XVID". The file name extension after converted contains ".avi". Thank you so much.

  • Importing quicktime file into iMovie 11 resulting in distortion

After having trouble importing Quicktime files into iMovie hd6, I decided to buy iMovie 11. So the file imports without squishing the image into 4:3 as it did in iMovie hd6, but now the movie has a strange strobe like flashing that is not present in the original.
    Any ideas?

See if you can open the file in QuickTIme PLayer. Click Command-I (or WINDOW/INSPECTOR) in QuickTime Player. Tell us what is listed by the word FORMAT:

  • Trouble importing movie into iMovieHD

I'm having trouble importing a video into iMovie HD. Here's the message I get when attempting to do so: "The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Users/Edd/Movies/ITI videos/don keehotay- Otto's 2.15.09” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -1409".
the file name and extension are, "don keehotay- Otto's 2.15.iMovieProject".
Any ideas on what I can do to get this to work?

Hi dupedd - it is an mpg file. iMovie HD needs DV formatted material. What was the source of your file?
You will need to convert it, using:
    MPEG StreamClip (free):
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
    Apple MPEG2 PlayBack ($20):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

  • Trouble importing from canon t4i into imove

So I have a canon t4i and I've been having trouble importing my videos from my memory card to imovie, and iphoto wont even let me upload it. I tried converting it to AVI (which took a few hours) and It's still not doing anything. I don't know what to do and it's really frustrating.

    Hello Samantha3232,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Some video clips may not import into iMovie when using the Camera Import window
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4485
From the File menu, choose Import > Movies.
In the dialog that appears, select your camera from the sidebar.
Locate and select the video clips on your camera that you would like to import.
    Click the Import button.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • IMovie stops importing after 7 seconds or so

I am trying to import some video that is being passed thru my digital camcorder from a dvd. I have done this before several months ago but today it stops importing after about 7 seconds. I don't have FileVault turned on so that isn't the problem. Everything looks fine on my camcorder screen but iMovie just stops importing. HELP! Any ideas? Thanks!

Well, guess what? I took the minidv tape out and now it has decided to work.

  • Trouble importing from p3 after office install

Has anyone else had trouble importing photos from digital camera after installing Office for Mac 2011? Now iPhoto won't recognize my files, and what came up in the import folder were about 160 icky clip art icons, which I quickly deleted.  If there's a fix (other than uninstalling software), please advise.

Terence, hi.  I'm doing what I had done previously (successfully), plugging in my Nikon digital camera via the USB port and turning on the camera.  I checked preferences and it's set to connect the camera in iPhoto.

  • I have been trying to import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  Did not have trouble until I upgraded to mavericks.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, iMovie 10.0.2.  Says it is recording, but when I go to check, it says the file is empty.

I have been trying import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  I have been successful doing this in the past, but now it is not working.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, (mavericks), iMovie 10.0.2.  Everything in iMovie looks like it is working.  It reads "recording" in the upper left hand corner of the pane while the video is playing.  When I stop the process to check on my clip it says that the file is empty.  The only thing that has changed since I did it successfully is that I upgraded to mavericks from whatever I had previously.  My system is about one year old.  Any suggestions?

    Hey, Clinton,
Thanks for your help!  I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video.  I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support.  They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded.  That didn't change anything.  In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge.  But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
         1.  Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
         2.  Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
         3.  Close iMovie 9
         4.  Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
         5.  File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events.  Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
         6.  Select the clips and import.  Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported.  Click continue import.  It's a little glitchy.  It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too.  On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy.  In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.
Hope this additional information helps somebody else.  Thanks again, Clinton for helping me!

  • Trouble importing video to iMovie.

-I have recently started running video during some training sessions.
-I am limited to importing the video from a dvd, burned from the fixed video recording equipment at the site.
-The file names and extensions of the product are as follows:
    -VIDEO_TS.BUP
    -VIDEO_TS.IFO
    -VIDEO_TS.VOB
    -VTS010.BUP
    -VTS010.IFO
    -VTS011.VOB
    -VTS.01_2.VOB
    -VTS.01_3.VOB
    -VTS.01_4.VOB
-I currently am unable to import these files into iMovie.
-I have attempted to convert these files to MPEG-4 using VLC software, however the resulting product has many missing segments compared to the original.
-Is there a method for importing this video that I am missing, or is there some apple software which I don't posses that is necessary for this process?
-I have only the stock iLife software on my MacBook Pro.

MPEG Streamclip from www.squared5.com (free) will convert the material into iMovie's DV stream format. To get the conversion to work you will also need the MPEG2 quicktime component from Apple ($20).

  • Trouble importing into iMovie. S.O.S

I am importing 5 clips into iMovie to make a movie for work, but only half of the clips will fully import and it took multiple tries to get them. The format of the recordings are correct, and I can click import - the progress bar and time remaining just never progress. How can I fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

    kbheartslax wrote:

    Really…
iMovie is meant for Camcorder material.
Any other source has to fullfill very specific settings.
For instance, stuff converted with (sadly) popular Handbrake is not compatible, if manual settings in HB are not set properly....

  • Trouble importing video into iMovie from External HD

I have video from my Panasonic Full HD camera.  I have already transferred the video off the camera and onto an external hard drive.  When I try to import the video into iMovie those files are grayed out.  Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?
It is all my video of my son's first year since birth!

It is very important that when you transferred the video off the camera, you kept all files and folders from the camera. If you did, you can open iMovie and use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA ARCHIVE and navigate to the folder that contains the contents that you removed from the camera.
In the future, open iMovie and use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA. This will bring up an import screen. There you can click a button that says Create Camera Archive. This will automatically get you all the files you need off the camera, and it gives you a good backup.
You can also import directly into iMovie from this screen.
If you did not preserve the contents of the camera - for example, you just copied the .mts files, but did not copy the rest of the files and folders, you will need a third party app to convert the .mts files so that iMovie can read them. Two apps that people use for this are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. They are pricey, but if you did not copy the full camera contents, this may be your best bet.
