Trouble Importing Clips To Timeline

I view a clip in my list of clips that are in the upper left hand corner.  I then highlight the clip that I want to edit.  When I try to drag it into the editing area down below, I often lose it or it just doesn't go down there.  Does anyone have any tips to help me to my clip more easily into the timeline?

I only know of one cause for that:
When you have finished importing the video do not go straight to editing but first save the project, close iMovie, then open the project again.
Now the clips should behave themselves!
I hardly ever use the clips pane except for occasionally 'parking' a clip for later use. I always import straight into the timeline.

  • Trouble dragging clips to timeline

We are having trouble dragging clips into our project timeline. The clips seem to fade out and can't be manipulated or dragged. We have not had this problem before.

  • Having serious troubles with clips on timelines. Any thoughts?

So, I'm having some serious issues with the timelines in Premiere. It's making it impossible to do any work.
Sometimes it shows clips where they definitely aren't, and then I'll click on them and then it will remember they aren't there.
Sometimes when I scroll left or right or up or down in the timeline, the clips just hang.
And other super screwy things. See the video below.
Things I've tried that haven't worked:
    Updated MacOS
Updated Premiere CC 2014 to the latest version
Cleared the media cache, both with the button inside premiere and manually
I can't copy everything into a new project, because I'm collaborating with others on this project by saving it to a Dropbox folder and we all take turns opening it. Neither of them are having these issues, and my computer is actually more powerful than theirs.
I'm using a latest-gen MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz with 8GB of RAM and a solid state drive.
    Any thoughts?

Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

  • Trouble importing clip in the browser

    Hi,
I am facing a new problem with my FCP 5. When I capture about 2 hours of video, in the browser it shows only 5 mins. duration of the clip however when I look inthe Hard Drive where it is captured I can see the complete 2 hour video. When I import or open the same video in browser, again it shows only 5 Mins.
How do I import the complete video?
    Thanks.
    Regards,

OK .. that IS weird. No INs or OUTs set on the clip, and its full length when played in QT. Try this; import the captured QT file (File->Import) and see if it shows full length in FCP. If it does, I' try trashing FCP's preferences.

  • Why do I need to render an imported clip in the timeline to view it??

I can't figure this out.I have used FCP 3 many times before but now I have imported an H264.mp4 clip into my timeline using FCP 4.5. Now I have to render it to watch it in the timeline? It appears that I have to render any clips I import into the timeline including .mov files.
Is this a FCP 4.5 thing?
    I am operating a Dual 867 G4 with 2 gigs of Ram. 10.4.6 OS.
It will take forever to render this project as it is Hours of HD footage.
Thanks so much for any help.
Never had this issue with non HD footage using FCP 3.
    G4 dual 867, 2 gig Ram Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Format: H.264 Decoder,368 x 208,Millions
    AAC, Stereo(L R).44.100 kHz
    23.98
You're dimensions are 368x208? Never seen that size (though, I'm sure there are a multitude of sizes I haven't seen). Did you specify those dimensions in HandBrake or were they default? Did you set those dimensions in your sequence? Look at all of your columns in the browser in regards to the clip properties; enter all of those into the sequence settings. This may be wrong, but I would even specify H.264 as the compressor.
Also, you said "HD footage", but you ripped it off a DVD. Was it a video DVD, or a data disc? If it was video, I believe it would have been compressed and down-rez'd already to SD, so it shouldn't really be HD footage anymore (not native anyway...unless it was a HD-DVD).
Looking to maybe export H.264.mov as another format
using Quicktime Pro. Think that will help?
You could do this, I believe, but it may not be necessary.

  • Final Cut Pro 7.02 - Importing Clip Problem

I tried searching for this but no help; I'm having trouble importing a clip into FCP but in the timeline and canvas, the last few seconds are mysteriously gone. In the screenshot link below, the information of the clip will show that it's 7:29 but in FCP the length is 7:14.
    http://a.imageshack.us/img832/7708/screenshot20100827at715.png
I'm just wondering, the clip is in ProRes 422 and over 9GB; is there a max. file size for FCP for importing clips that's causing this?
    Thanks in advance!

You used iShowU didn't you? Yeah, you have to either conform the clip to the frame rate you are going for (If you recorded 30fps, conform it to 30fps or 29.97). iShowU imports into FCP, because there is no "timecode track", tend to get lost.
Or, load it into the Viewer, and export as a self contained movie, then import that into FCP.
ScreenFlow is MUCH better at this.

  • Importing clips from iMovie - jittery

Just got Final Cut Pro 5 and I'm having a problem with importing clips from iMovie into FCP5. The clips were fine in iMovie, but the images are jittery in FCP. I tried Apple Care, but they wanted to charge me $200 to answer my question eventhough I just bought the software yesterday!
any ideas most welcome - thanks

Nowhere is it advertised that iMovie is compatible with FCP.
One is a consumer format, with less features, like lack of timecode. The other is a professional format, which relies heavily on timecode.
Yes, output to tape from imovie, then capture with FCP.
#20 Using iMovie to Capture for FCP edit
    Shane's Stock Answer #20:
iMovie handles the media differently from FCP, specifically where audio is concerned. So it is not a recommended workflow. Here's why...
iMovie captures using DV Stream (.dv) standard which does not use timecode. That is a big disadvantage over the way that FCP captures in that you can't go back and recapture the material at a later date if you need to revisit a project.
The DV/NTSC specification (the one FCP uses) also calls for seperate tracks for audio and video, even if you capture it as one clip. iMovie' DV stream format is muxed audio and video, which means that they are tied together (I can't get into specifics because I ain't no engineer or programmer). FCP is a bit more demanding and captures the seperate audio/video tracks, either in a single media file or as seperate video and audio files. With FCP you could capture video only or audio only because each is defined by the DV specs. while with iMovie you can't.
Also, if you drop the iMovie footage into the timeline, your will get the RED render bar forcing you to render the footage in order to see it...

  • Can't see clip preview in clip or timeline view

This may be a simple problem, but I am brand new to this. I am making a movie out of photos, and the process seems simple. I drag a photo from my iphoto library (from the photos pane) into the clip view (or timeline). The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black. So I can't really easily edit the clips because I have no idea which one is which (besides looking at the filename!). The images I am importing are jpegs and like I said it has no problem playing the movie correctly I just see what I am working with in the clip view. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum!
The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the
clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black.
    Very strange.
To make sure we understand what you see... The imported image plays okay on the timeline after it's imported, but its thumbnail in the timeline is black. Instead of the thumbnail showing the imported image, the thumbnail is black. Correct?
Does the imported clip play black too?
The only thing I can think of that makes a clip play black is when the Ken Burns Effect is set to pan above/below the image or left/right of the image. Then, instead of importing the image, Ken Burns imports the black border along one side of the image.
To unset the pan so Ken Burns is centered over the image, do this:
    1. Click on any image in the iPhoto library.
    2. Turn ON the Ken Burns checkbox.
    3. Click in the "Start" half of the Start/End thingy.
    4. Drag the zoom slider (the slider with the small/large face profile) a bit to the right, then all the way to the left.
    5. Click on the "End" half of the thingy and repeat #4.
Now the import is centered. If the pan was causing the problem, that should fix it.

  • No audio on import clips

Using iMovie 6.0.3 on my new Power Mac. Importing via firewire from Canon ZR500. No audio when I play imported clips. I can see audio wave after extracting. Speakers turned on. I can hear the audio sound affects and iTunes songs from the iMovie browser, but they don't play once placed in timeline.
    What is up??
Using same camera I have no problem on my iBook G4

I think it is called " Video Play Through Camera ", Karsten.
    Language barrier, I think.
    no, it's called...
"Video eines DV-Projekts auf DV-Kamera anzeigen"
    .. to be korrekt...
thanks, Sue, for correction.. indeed, I toggle between English and German interface, just to post here the correct terms.. I was sure, I remember right.. nope.. where are my pills...? the red ones.. are for the brain...

  • Trouble importing from canon t4i into imove

So I have a canon t4i and I've been having trouble importing my videos from my memory card to imovie, and iphoto wont even let me upload it. I tried converting it to AVI (which took a few hours) and It's still not doing anything. I don't know what to do and it's really frustrating.

    Hello Samantha3232,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Some video clips may not import into iMovie when using the Camera Import window
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4485
From the File menu, choose Import > Movies.
In the dialog that appears, select your camera from the sidebar.
Locate and select the video clips on your camera that you would like to import.
    Click the Import button.
    Best of luck,

  • Importing 16:9 timeline in 4:3 environment

    Hi!
I've been working on a project for a client in a 16:9 aspect ratio timeline.  Recent changes have been made and the final projection MUST be in 4:3.  Is there a way to import that old timeline into a 4:3 environment without having to individualy scale each clip to fit?

You can copy everything from the 16:9 project and paste it inside a 4:3 timeline.
You'll probably end up with letterboxing - i.e. two black bands at the top and bottom of the screen - simply because the aspect ration is different. That is assuming you have kept the spatial conformity of your clips to  the default option, 'Fit'.
If this is acceptable, then that's all there is to it. If not, then you'll have to scale things and lose some visual content - if you enlarge a 16:9 to get rid of the letterboxing you'll lose the extreme bits at the sides.

  • Trouble importing AVCHD

I try to import AVCHD into my imac 2,2/Gb ram/Leopard 10.5 using AVCHD i60 codec (amongst others) from panasonic HDC HS300. Nothing works all the way. I have no filters or transitions inserted. YEt the clip after being imported in the timeline stutters and eventually stops after about 17 seconds when played in the timeline.
Page 221 in the user manual says "IMPORTANT: Use the HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec easy setup for ingesting AVCHD fotage" Tried that but that doesn´t work AT ALL.
Is there any help at all? Please, some kind soul..../ fransmo

OK I´ll try to be more accurate. I tried both importing through the avchd 1920x1080 i50 and i60 presets. the film was originally made on panasonic HDC HS300 at preset HA1920 (best). What happens is that the clip start to stutter when imported in the timeline and then finally freezes after about 17 seconds.
This doesn´t happen if I import avchd footage on my macbookpro, but as I like to be able to use the big screen of the imac I would be very glad to be able to use that for video editing. I´ve checked all the setting and there doesn´t seem to be differences between the two.
I downloaded Iskysofts viedo converter and ran the clip through that, and thet seemed to convert it allright, so there must be something wrong with the settings or converting abilities in FCE from what I take it

  • Clip from Timeline not showing up in the Viewer

why in Final Cut Pro when i have a clip in the time line and i want to add an effect or slow the clip down or speed it up, i double click on my clip in the timeline and it doesn't show up in the Viewer as only the clip. it is the entire footage that i have captured with my clip that want to edit.
the only thing that i want to edit in between  the two arrows ______ ^^^^.
but when i double click the clip when its in the TimeLine it just shows up in the viewer along with the entire imported clip along with it.

That's what Final Cut does.  Anything outside those arrows are the handles for the clip.  It's not going to affect your master clip if you add your effects or filters.  (Unless you actually add them to it specifically).  If you were to subclip your footage it may act more like what you are expecting.

  • Premeire CC 2014 not playing clips or timeline with New Mac Pro Late 2013 D700

I have used premeire cs5 and cs6 and never had this issue
I just bought a new mac pro and installed the trial of Premeire cc 2014
I import clips like normal, set my sequence and the play button does not work
in the viewer or in the timeline.  Can seem to make anything work
also I am on 10.9.5 which from what I can see should be fine.

    Hi Ernie,
Try this: create a new user with Admin privileges and see if you can get Premiere Pro to playback video once more.

  • Trouble importing from Canon HG10

I have a Canon HG10 camera (HDD, AVCHD). I'm having trouble importing to iMovie '09 (8.0.6).
Initially the camera was not being detected by iMovie at all (it did mount on the desktop). Searching the forums (here and elsewhere) it seemed that this was a common problem with the HG10, and that the solution was often to initialize the camera's HD (through the camera's own menus). Unfortunately this wipes out all the movies already on the camera, and I had several hours of critical footage on the camera. I decided to try it anyway, making a copy of the HD's entire contents to my machine before initializing.
Initializing did fix the problem. I recorded a short clip on the newly blank camera, and upon connecting to my machine iMovie detected it immediately and I was able to import.
My dilemma now is that I need to somehow import the several hours of footage that I had copied to my machine before initializing the camera. In one forum it was suggested that I could use the "Import Camera Archive..." option in iMovie, and point it to the backup copy of the camera's contents that I had made. When I do this I get the message "Folder is Not a Camera Archive".
I tried copying the old contents of the HD back onto the newly initialized camera to see if it would be detected. No luck — camera reverts to not being detected and must be initialized again.
Suspecting that the auxiliary files in the camera's folder structure might be the issue, I tried selectively copying files from the backup copy over to the camera's folder structure (e.g. just the MTS files). This didn't work (surprise surprise).
I see in other forums that it's possible to get raw MTS files into iMovie, but since I have all the files in the original camera structure it seems there should be an easier way.

    Hello jam27
Had the same situation once with the same Camera
I used Handbrake http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php to convert to mp4 H.264 Codex Large file size
Import this into iMovie it takes time but at least you can recover this .
I kept still the original MTS files just in case as backup Cheers Herb
