Trouble importing from miniDV cam

I'm importing my old miniDV movies from my Panasonic NV-GS27 connected with a firewire400-firewire800-thunderbolt cables to a MacBookPro into iMovie.
Until yesterday everything worked ok, today after 4 minutes the screen turn off (ok, it's the screensaver but before it keep always on while importing) and at the end of an 1 hour acquisition I've got only the first 10 minutes acquired (but iMovie showed all the images from start to end of miniDV). I haven't changed anything (well, I think so), suggestion on what can be happened?
p.s. setting the monitor to always on doesn't change anything

the capture stopped before the sleep, I've tried to keep always on also the disks but nothing happened
I've also tried with my MacMini, after 37 min the capture stopped in the same way . I've noticed also that when the capture is stopped the movie showed in iMovie flash about every second

I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card. The video breaks up and pixelizes when it's directly imported from the memory card. That makes the video useless. Why does this happen? It doesn't do that in any other video editing software. Thanks for the help.

    More info please:
    Type of camera?
Was the card formatted in the camera doing the shooting?
Type of files the camera is set to record?

  • Clips won't import from Panasonic Camera

    Hello,
I'm new to imovie. Actually, I'm in the process of trying to create my first project on it and am having some trouble. I'm hoping someone out there can answer my questions about it. First, when I plug my camera into the computer and open imovie and a new project is selected the clips on my camera will not import onto the computer. The only thing that appears are the still images from iphoto that were previously on the computer. There are absolutely no clips on the computer even though when I play back on the camera with the battery in it, and when it is not connected to the computer, there is over one hour's worth of clips on the tape. Why do you think this might be happening and what can I do to make the clips import onto imovie?
Now, just so you know. The camera that I'm using is a Panasonic PV-GS83 and the cable I'm using to connect to the computer is a DV cable that I had to purchase, which should have been included with the camera, but was not.(The DV cable seems to fit into the computer fine.) Also, In order to plug the DV cable into the camera and the camera into the computer I have to remove the camera's battery. In addition, according to the camera's instructions, the camera has to be in Tape Playback mode and not in PC mode in order for it to import video images onto imovie. Moreover, images for the camera can only be recorded on a tape or a card, but supposedly the card can only import still and not video images. I've also mainly recorded video images onto the tape in the camera. Finally, the version of imovie that I'm trying to use is imovie '05, the computer is a Powerbook G4 and the operating system is MAC OSX (10.4)
If someone out there could answer my questions soon I would really appreciate it.
    All the best,

welcome csoste to the  boards..
ehm, what is your question....... ?
(and: if iM5 is in use, why posting in the iM≤4 section of this board... ?)
anyhow, usual workflow to import from miniDV:
    connect camcorder to powerline..
connect 4/6pin firewire cable to Mac
    set camera to play
set iM to 'Import from camera' (manual for iM5 here: http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/tutorial/index.html )

  • I can't add a title to a movie imported from my camera! how come?

This is really frustrating because I have one clip (an entirely different one than the one I want to add a title to) that is "accepting" a title. but the one I imported from my camera (a testimonial from a client) just wont work. nothing happens when I drag and try to drop a title. with the other one, it turns blue and it's clear I can drop a title. I was able to edit my video and remove some clips.
this has happened before. i need to understand why it happens so 1. i can avoid it in the future and 2. stop wasting so much time messing around with this critcal but SMALL piece.
    please help!

    ill try to help...
forgive me i'm no tech. much like pictures cant be edited retitled etc, once uploaded from camera roll. (they can be in camera roll) I think you can do it on the computer after the fact.
as for where to find the video that depends on the computer. I dont know on a mac but windows based you find the file in your library right click and select rename.
    hope that helps

  • When importing from my camera or file in Lightroom 5 my pictures are over-exposed by 1-2 stops, while they are well exposed on the camera-screen. How to get the 'right-exposed pictures on the screen?

When importing from my camera or file in Lightroom 5 my pictures are over-exposed by 1-2 stops, while they are well exposed on the camera-screen. How to get the 'right-exposed pictures on the screen?

There is an option in your Lightroom preferences on the General tab, "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate images". If you have that option checked then Lightroom will import and display both your raw and JPEG files. Are you using active D-lighting on your camera? If you are then you need to turn off that feature.

  • Import from a camera that contains mts files

what is the required file structure for FCE to import from a camera that contains mts files

The file structure is provided/created automatically by the camera....
So if you still have the original structure, then you should be fine, but you may need to install software for log and transfer from the camera manufacturer...
If you just have the individual mts file, you are SOL as far as log and transfer goes. In that case you need to purchase ClipWrap2 to convert to Pro Res....
Not sure how this all works with FC Express though...

  • Importing from DVD CAM

Hi, I just installed Adobe Premiere Pro but I don't know how to import my videos from my DVD CAM. Could anyone tell me how to import from DVD CAM?
    Thank you

Was just given 2 DVD cam discs containing footage that was shot at a concert I am editing. On reviewing the discs, I noticed that each song is assigned to a separate chapter on the DVD.   I'd really like to use this footage as it provides additional camera angles I didn't cover.  I am going to use my old Ulead Video Studio 8 program to convert the DVD files to mpg's for editing in Pr. (I will also check out the software Jeff mentioned).  I'm trying to convert each chapter on the DVD to an mpeg2 file so the files size is manageable.
The footage I shot is mini DV, and I plan on mixing the two sources.    What do I need to look out for as far as the "conversions/extra steps" you mentioned?
    Thanks.

  • How do I get rid of "unreadable files" when I am importing from my camera?

How do I get rid of "unreadable files" when I am importing from my camera?

Are all images unreadable? What is the exact error message you are getting?
If only a few images are unreadable, try to import not all photos at once, but in smaller batches, until you know, which photo it is that cannot be read. Import all photos that can be read and reformat your card in the camera to remove the unreadable files.
But if all photos are unreadable, try, if Image Capture can read your card.
Is it a new camera? Have you been able to import from that camera before?

  • Trouble importing from CF

I have a Canon Digital Rebel with a 2GB CF card I download thru a USB CF reader to my Dell D820 (2GB memory). Invariably, when my CF is almost full and I try to import the pics into LR (V1.0 308266), only half the pics get imported. If I re-insert the CF and initiate a new download, it will download the rest. Interestingly, in the upper-left-hand corner, I see 2 progress bars... One never seems to complete.
Why? How can I tell if all my pictures have been downloaded? I usually put the CF back into the camera and reformat. I wonder how many pictures I've lost... assuming the download into LR was downloading *all* my pictures.
    Thanks,
    -Ed

At the current time it's advisable to copy the images to the hard drive first and then import into LR from there. Direct import from a camera or card reader is known to be buggy in some cases (certain cameras including Canon and certain OS, namely Mac OS and Vista).

  • Trouble importing from camera

I have been merrily importing photos from my relatively new Panasonic Lumix FX50 for a few months now. This weekend tried to import 101 photos from camera to iphot 5 and hit a wall. iphoto seems to read the contents of the chip and begin importing, but I never get the slide show showing the photos coming into the library. The wheel by the camera in the source pane spins, but even after 10 minutes no pictures are imported. I can stop the import and get out in a normal way, but no photos have been added to the library. I tried also on my laptop and husband's laptop and same thing exactly. This leads me to think it is a camera problem. I also noted that in the info pane it says there are 100 photos and 2 movies, however I looked and there are no movies.* Wonder why iphoto thinks they are there. Anyone with any clues out there? Thanks, Candace
    * Come to think of it, in the fall I took a couple of movies and iphoto just could not import them. Too big? Computer memory full? Still, why does it think there are movies in the camera now?

    Candace:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open Image Capture and manually upload all of the files from the camera to a folder on the desktop. Check to see if there are any .mov files in the folder. When the upload is complete disconnect the camera and reformat the memory card using the camera.
Import that folder into iPhoto while selecting not to import duplicates. That will only import those photos that didn't get imported when you tried earlier.
Make it a point to reformat the memory card with the camera after each import. That will start the next shoot with a clean card and no left over files/folders or directory indexes.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Trouble importing from canon t4i into imove

So I have a canon t4i and I've been having trouble importing my videos from my memory card to imovie, and iphoto wont even let me upload it. I tried converting it to AVI (which took a few hours) and It's still not doing anything. I don't know what to do and it's really frustrating.

    Hello Samantha3232,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Some video clips may not import into iMovie when using the Camera Import window
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4485
From the File menu, choose Import > Movies.
In the dialog that appears, select your camera from the sidebar.
Locate and select the video clips on your camera that you would like to import.
    Click the Import button.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Trouble importing from Canon HG10

I have a Canon HG10 camera (HDD, AVCHD). I'm having trouble importing to iMovie '09 (8.0.6).
Initially the camera was not being detected by iMovie at all (it did mount on the desktop). Searching the forums (here and elsewhere) it seemed that this was a common problem with the HG10, and that the solution was often to initialize the camera's HD (through the camera's own menus). Unfortunately this wipes out all the movies already on the camera, and I had several hours of critical footage on the camera. I decided to try it anyway, making a copy of the HD's entire contents to my machine before initializing.
Initializing did fix the problem. I recorded a short clip on the newly blank camera, and upon connecting to my machine iMovie detected it immediately and I was able to import.
My dilemma now is that I need to somehow import the several hours of footage that I had copied to my machine before initializing the camera. In one forum it was suggested that I could use the "Import Camera Archive..." option in iMovie, and point it to the backup copy of the camera's contents that I had made. When I do this I get the message "Folder is Not a Camera Archive".
I tried copying the old contents of the HD back onto the newly initialized camera to see if it would be detected. No luck — camera reverts to not being detected and must be initialized again.
Suspecting that the auxiliary files in the camera's folder structure might be the issue, I tried selectively copying files from the backup copy over to the camera's folder structure (e.g. just the MTS files). This didn't work (surprise surprise).
I see in other forums that it's possible to get raw MTS files into iMovie, but since I have all the files in the original camera structure it seems there should be an easier way.

    Hello jam27
Had the same situation once with the same Camera
I used Handbrake http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php to convert to mp4 H.264 Codex Large file size
Import this into iMovie it takes time but at least you can recover this .
I kept still the original MTS files just in case as backup Cheers Herb
