Trouble importing mail from contacts

MacBook Pro, Version 10.9.4  When I try to mail to a group from my contacts, I get duplicate names and addresses.  This only happens with one group and just started.

Hello Oral History.
Mail crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly) even if you select the wrong folder? Don’t you even get a “No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” error message in those cases?
There could be more than one thing amiss here. Does Mail otherwise work fine on the Intel iMac? In particular, can you create custom “On My Mac” mailboxes in Mail by means of Mailbox > New Mailbox or does Mail complain with some error message when you try to do that?
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described in the following article:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
/Library/InputManagers/
/Library/Mail/Bundles/
~/Library/InputManagers/
~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you may just copy it from this post and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You may then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

Having trouble important my Google contacts via Microsoft Exchange. An Exchange pop up says that I have entered the wrong password. Help?

I found a fix!! Refer to this article regarding using Microsoft Exchange for Google accounts: http://www.zdnet.com/with-new-gmail-and-google-maps-ios-apps-the-iphone-5-is-cle arly-the-best-smartphone-available-7000008756/
In a nutshell, the Google/Microsoft Exchange combo will no longer work on apple devices. You will need to delete your Exchange account altogether. I know, scary! After you delete it, add your Gmail account like you would add any other regular email account on your device [Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Gmail > add your info]. That takes care of your email and calendar.
Now to get your google contacts back! Refer to these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4872?viewlocale=en_US
I promise, these steps worked for me (even though I was wincing while I deleted my Exchange account). Now I have my Gmail, Google contacts, and Google calendars (even the shared calendars!) on both my iPhone and iPad :D

  • Import mails from microsoft outllook to mac outlook

Am trying to import mails from MS outlook to MAC outlook and its not importing all msgs/ folders..
    adv why??

You're in luck, Imap and Exchange accounts store their data on the server.
Leave Outlook alone, just add the accounts to Mail and let them synchronize, no import required. You can leave them in Outlook or remove them as you please once everything in Mail is done.

  • In Yosemite, I try to import mail from Apple Mail 8.0 into Thunderbird 31.20.0, but it says "No mailboxes found"--what should I do?

In Yosemite, I try to import mail from Apple Mail 8.0 into Thunderbird 31.20.0, but it says "No mailboxes found"--what should I do? I've tried all sort of other approaches, but none works. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks! Ken

Try copying the whold SD card to your desktop by holding down the Option key and dragging the SD card icon about 2 inches away from the where the card sits on the desktop. This should trigger Mac OS to make a copy of the whole SD card onto your Macintosh's desktop. Once it finishes from there, eject the SD card. Reboot your Mac then open iMovie without launching any other programs whatsoever. Go to the File Menu Import Movies from File... And point it at the copy of the SD card and see if it crashes again.

  • Mail app crashes when importing mail from Netscape.

I have been using Netscape 4 in classic mode for years. I have a HUGE inbox that I need to keep for reference purposes and I would like to switch to using Mail. Mail crashes when I try to import my mailboxes. I moved all my mail to the newest Netscape and tried again and again it crashed.
Is there a third party program that can help this along?

You might want to take a look at Eudora Mailbox Cleaner - it can import mail from Thunderbird to Mail so I guess Netscape Mail should be fine as well:

  • Importing mail from Thunderbird incomplete

I'm having some issues importing mail from Thunderbird (Windows). I have exported them as mbox format and copied it across on my Mac. I then import it using mail and select Thunderbird and pointed it to the correct folder.
It starts importing fine, but the issue is that it only imports 1 email only. I have 2000+ emails in the mbox.
I tried Thunderbird for Mac, and imported it across. It works fine importing from Thunderbird Windows -> Thunderbird Mac.
Then I tried importing again to Mail by pointing to my ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles folder and once again the import completes with no errors, but only one single email was imported.
    Any ideas?

You’d get better results if you use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion instead.

  • How do I import mail from Outlook 2010?

When I try to import my emails from Outlook 2010 I get the following message:
"An error occurred importing mail from Outlook
Unable to find mail to import. Check to make sure the mail application is correctly installed on this machine."

You'll need to do it from a 32bit version - Mail/Live mail do not recongise outlook 2010 64 bit.  Dropping EML files into Outlook folder has always created new messages with attachments - this is nothing new.
ETA: if you can email the messages as attachments, you can drag them from the message and drop them in the Inbox.  This obviously works best if there aren't hundreds of messages to convert. :)
There are 3rd party utilties that can make the conversion but they may not work with the 64bit version. See http://www.slipstick.com/config/convmsg.htm for a list of programs that can make the conversion but i don't know if any of them work with 64bit outlook.

Mostly because you are not using any capital letters or paragraph returns and your post is difficult to read.

  • Importing Mail from Mac Mail

I just installed Leopard on my eMac and it installed just fine. However, I seemed to have installed it clean instead of an upgrade.
I see the files for my mail in my "username"|Library|Mail|Mailboxes folder, but cannot import them. When I go to Mail and choose "File" then "Import Mailboxes", I get a option of where to import mail from. I choose "Mail for Max OS X" and then show it where I saw my mailboxes, but they do not show up for me to select them.
    How do I do this?
    HELP!!

Well, I have finally figured out the problem. Some moron (that would be me) installed Leopard on the external hard drive instead of the main hard drive. Time Machine will NOT use the same drive that it boots from to back up the computer.
Solution: Unplug the external drive, let it boot to the old operating system, reinstall Leopard, plug in the external hard drive and then configure Time Machine to use the external drive.
Thank you for all your help and suggestions.

  • I am having trouble getting mail from the server that my new iMac is connected to. I have to reboot the system to get Outlook for Mac to access the system. Any ideas?

I am having trouble getting mail from the shaw server that my new iMac is connected to. I have to reboot the system to get Outlook for Mac to access the system and obtain new messages. Any ideas? Its at the point where I have started using the PC again as its less trouble.......

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />
See "Firefox connection settings" in [[Server not found]]
You can find the connection settings in "Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection"<br />
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy

  • Importing mail from Exchange to MS CRM

    Hello all,
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 receives all mail since it was activated, the emails were in Outlook before CRM be active not appear.
I do not have the backup of independent Outlook but Microsof Exchange Server.
How do I import mail from Exchange to CRM?
    Please would like response!
    Many thanks
    Best regards

    1. CRM is not a backup for Exchange. So while I get while there can be business value of old email in CRM, don't treat it like a backup system.
    2. If you use the Dynamics CRM Outlook Plugin, as a user you can just go back to your old email archive and click "Track in CRM".  This will also give you the granularity of what's relevant and what's not for storing in CRM.

  • Import mail from Outlook 2013 to firefox does not complete

    Hi and thanks,
I am trying to move away from Windows Office 2013 - Firefox is good but unless I can import all of my mail, contacts and calender a problem.
I have followed instructions to import mail - but only inbox and deleted items come across, I have some 40 folders full of mail I want to import - it seems as if the import process gets held up at about 10% - does this take hours or should it be relatively quick?
    Cheers Nick

Ok this is filed under Thunderbird, so I will assume your references to Firefox are in error.
You appear to have added your account as POP. Try adding it as IMAP.
File menu (Alt+F) >new>existing mail account
now delete the old pop mail account, once everything arrives from the server.
Tools menu ALT+T) > account settings and use the account actions button at the bottom of the list.

  • Import mails from a time machine backup

I bought Lion, burned it on dvd,put a new hard drive in my macbook, installed lion, import my folders and now i can't restore my mail settings.I don't want to download al my mails again but i want to import my mails, settings &co. from my time machine backup.I tried copying the folder /gio/Library/Mail from time machine to /gio/Library/Mail to Lion but it didn't work
From the time machine application i saw that i can restore all the apps from my backup, how can i do if i want to restore mail only?
I copied manually the setting and the data for Safari,iCal,Contacts,iPhoto, but for mail i don't know which folder I have to copy and where I have to put them

  • How do I import mail from Snow Leopard to Lion Mail?

Tried dragging ~/Library/Mail files and folders across.
But Mail insisted on my setting up an accounr (I have several) and put everything into that one account.
Anyone know of a foolproof doc./url or checklist, please, which explains how to get everything that was in Snow Leopard Mail into Lion Mail?
    Thanks!

similar "solution" for how to import ical from snow leopard to lion:
    1) copy the following files (e.g. from a snow leopard backup) prior to first opening ical:
    1a) ~/Library/Keychains/ (folder "Keychains")
    1b) ~/Library/Calendars (folders "Calendars")
    1c) ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.* (ical preferences files, "com.apple.iCal.helper.plist", "com.apple.iCal.plist")
    1d) ~/Library/Preferences/iCalExternalSync.plist
    2) then open ical in lion ... import/update will follow
if you have opened ical prior to the above steps these files (1b, 1c and 1d ) have already been created, so you have to replace them with your backups from snow leopard described above
if you have set up calendar accounts in system preferences "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" you might have to delete them before applying the above steps
    ps:
not quite sure if the following steps are necessary (or did help) for mail/ical import, because mobileme sync works now different in lion (no option for syncing calendars anymore within system preferences—>mobileme) ...
i did a mobileme sync in snow leopard prior to the clean install of lion with:
    Calendars
    Mail Accounts
Mail rules, Signatures, and Smart Mailboxes

  • Mail for Mac on new hard drive won't import Mail from old hd

I recently installed an additional hard drive (running Tiger), but I kept my old one (running Panther), too, to use as a backup.
After resolving a few snags, the data and apps transferred over OK, but two days ago I (very foolishly) tried to make a change in the name I use as Administrator (or at least that's what I meant to do), and all the apps on my new hard drive forgot their passwords, preferences, etc.
    What a pain!
I'll eventually get all the preferences, etc., set; but Mail on the new hd also lost everything--addresses, trash, sent messages; and that's got me baffled.
My old hd still has Mail on it (including addresses, etc.), but I haven't been able to import data from it to Mail on the new hd.
In the new Mail, under the File menu, when I choose "Import Mailboxes" and select the button for Mail for Mac OS X, then navigate to Mail on my old hd, it's faint and can't be selected.
Suggestions of any kind would really be appreciated. (And from now on, I'll just live with my name being misspelled as Administrator!)
    Thanks a lot,

    Richard,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
When trying to import a pre-Tiger mailbox created with Mail, use type "Other", instead of type OSX.
However, if you can replace any copy of the Mail folder on your Tiger drive, and any com.apple.mail.plist in the Preferences folder of your Tiger drive with copies from your Panther drive, Mail will open to say it is ready to import Mailboxes, and will then convert all the mailboxes at once.
However when finished, you will need to check for leftover files, that can become problematic, and to check to see if full conversion took place. See:
