Trouble importing my photos
Hi everyone,
I am having trouble importing my photos. I am doing at as usually do, I insert the memory card on my Mac and then I hit import photos. Once those are imported I am usually able to start developing them, however, this time when I go to edit them, it displays a sign saying "file not found". I have encountered this before when I have moved the photos from their original location and then an interrogation sign shows in the folder. This time is different though because it happens right after import and I know for a fact that I have not modified the location of the folder. I have also tried to right click and hit update folder location and that does not work. I have also tried importing the photos to my computer first on a folder, and then importing them from there to lightroom, but that is not working either. Please help me. I really need to edit these. Thank you so much!

Trouble importing scanned photos in pse8
I'm having trouble importing scanned photos into pse8. I'm using pse8 on a mac with ver 10.5.8 os. The scanner is a lexmark s405. This is the message I get: "This file was created to be viewed on a television screen, but will appear compressed on your computer monitor. It is recommended that you use a video monitor to priview and edit this image." The photos do look normal on my screen, but the file sizes are huge, as in about 1 px per inch. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a remedy?
hi miss....
even though m a Nikon guy :> Canon makes one of the best scanner components around. they used to make alot of the scanner parts for other companies under the other company names.
remember though, that if u buy an all-in-one u might be waiting for repairs for different functions of the combos. (scanners, printers, faxs, ect.)
as cheap as they are getting ????
good luck

Trouble importing old photo library to iPhoto 06
I just updated to iLife/iPhoto 06. When importing old photo library which is 7-8,000 photos, I got 24,000 + images incl. images of computer icons, demo photos, images that look like pieces from web pages (headers, part of photos etc), 4-5 copies of my own photos, some look like they are "pixilated", which the original wasn't. Any idea of what happened and how to fix this, short of manually deleting each image that doesn't belong?
iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Terence,
Tks, I kind of suspected that. I'm new to Macs and more used to PCs, and by no means good at either system, so it sometimes gets confusing.
Anyway - Here's the list from the iPhoto Library folder - I did copy & paste, but it didn't paste in the same order it is listed in the iPhoto Library window. I guess it should all be there though.

By the way, here's another question, a bit off the current subject: Sometimes we have trouble playing video clips downloaded from our camera. Sometimes iPhoto will play the audio but no picture, sometimes the other way around, and there don't seem to be any common thread one way or the other. Recently a bunch of clips that used to play audio only "repaired themselves" and are not playing fine. But others are only playing video with no sound. Any idea of whats going on?
Thanks

Trouble importing/syncing photos into iTunes
I have a brand new video ipod and when I went to import/sync the photos on my hard drive to it I accidentally (but successfully) imported the entire iPhoto library (3000 photos - more than I need on the pod).
So, to correct the mistake I went back today to try and sync ONLY the folder/library subset (as opposed to all of the photos) I wanted from iPhoto, but now it won't let me do anything - all options are greyed out....and no photos are on my iPod. I am pretty savvy but i can't figure out what happened. I get an error message saying that my iPod can't by synced due to an unknown error..(everything else is sync-ing)
Also - where on my hard drive should all iPhoto images be kept so that nothing goes wrong...I keep some photos in a differently named folder on my hard drive - maybe that is part of the problem...? How would I start over to make it work properly (having learned my lesson ?
thanks - tracyTracy,
All of your iPhoto photos should be located in your
~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals
The above is only true if you have the iPhoto Preferences set to copy files to iPhoto Library under the advanced tab. When this is checked, all of your photos, no matter where they are, will be "copied" into the iPhoto Library folder. This will give you duplicates if you already have your own library somewhere else, but this will also give you a backup....
I don't think any of us want to loose any of our photos from any of our trips or whatever... I suggest backing your photos up on a DVD or external hard drive for safe keeping.
To start over, remove the files from your iPhoto Library. Don't throw the "Originals" folder away just in case you don't have copies until you are all done and make sure you have all your photos. -
Trouble importing keywords/photos from old version of iPhoto
I'm trying to import photos with their ratings & keywords from my old Mac that has iPhoto version 6.0.6. I copied the iPhoto folder from old Mac to Pictures folder in User on new Mac, then imported that folder from new iPhoto. It only imported a fraction of the photos and none of the keywords or ratings came with.
Help and suggestions are most appreciated! There's no importing involved.
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
You do not +import it to the new iPhoto+. You simply open the LIbrary with the new iPhoto and that updates it.

Trouble importing stored photos from 60g ipod to iphoto.
I downloaded 500 photos while on vacation to 60 g ipod. I go to iphoto and select import which opens a window but don't know where to locate the stored photos.
imac G5 and 60g ipod Mac OS X (10.4.7)Hello there.
Your photos will be stored on your iPod in a folder, much like they have already been saved on a hard drive. From the Finder, locate your iPod icon. If you do not see one, you need to go into iTunes, go to the iPod preferences and tell it to mount on your desktop.
Once you see the iPod folder on your desktop, double click it to open, and locate the folder that contains the photos you stored on it. Drag this folder to your iPhoto window, and they will be imported.
If you find this useful or if it solves your problem, please indicate this by clicking in the appropriate icon above this reply. -
I just got a new macbook and before i had to sync all my photos from my old mac onto a bunch of flash drives and most are on my phone. Ive successfully imported the flash drives and the photos on my camera roll to my new macbook iPhoto but not the other 1,000+. My computer isn't recognizing it maybe because its in 'mac events'. Does anyone know what to do? Please help it would be greatly appreciated especially since i don't have much room left on my iphone anymore. thank you.
You'll need third party software to get the images not on your camera roll. iExplorer is one such app, but there are others. Search on MacUpdate

Brand new Imac user having trouble importing photos (jpgs)
I am a brand new iMac user and am having trouble importing some of my photos into my new computer.
Here is my dilemma:
* All of my pics are jpgs that were shot using a sony DSC-W50 digital camera.
* All were backed up on my exteral harddrive from my old Sony PC.
* I loaded all of them onto my new iMac into the "Photos" area
* When I try to import them to the iPhoto library, I get a message that either says "already in the iPhoto library" or 'unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data"
* I can open all of the photos that I get this error msg on in other photo programs so I know the files are photos and are good.

iPhoto is not an image viewer, it's a Database with built-in image viewer, lightweight editing and version control, and like any database, data needs to be imported. However, iPhoto will not import from the iPhoto Library Folder.
So, move the photos to the Desktop and then import them from there.
Here's what happens next:
iPhoto will make a copy of them in the iPhoto Library Folder. There they will be put into the Originals Folder. Here's how the iPhoto Library Folder is organised:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
If you need any more asistance post more.

I just installed Photo Elements 12 and when I import my photos all I get on the grid is hourglasses, no images. When I click on them I do get the photo but I can't see them on the grid.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. I am having trouble importing almost 3000 pics from my phone to my computer. Start up disk should be fine, cleaned it up before I began. Trouble importing photos previously deleted from Elements Organizer
I am having trouble importing photos from iPhoto into Photoshop Elements Organizer. When I try to import, it says "Nothing was imported. The files or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this catalog." The photos I want to import, I had previously deleted from the Organizer, so I think they are "already in this catalog" but I don't know how to find them.
How are you attempting to do this? Step by step, what are you doing?

Trouble Importing Photos into iMovie
I am trying to import photos into iMovie and am having trouble. They look like they are importing OK, and when the import is through (the red bar has finished loading) the picture disappears and the clip becomes blank. This is happening when I import from the finder, from iPhoto, or from FILE>Import, and with lots of different photo sizes, none seem to work. My iMovie project file is located on an external drive with tons of space. I have plenty of space of the startup disk, so I don't know why this is happening, and it was working fine a few days ago. Any ideas?
I had this problem last year (August-Sept 2007), and I'm having it again now (August 2008). When I import jpeg photos from iPhoto to iMovie, they turn black and are not accessible in iMovie. In addition, this time when I imported several photos, the replay of the iMovie became jerky. When I threw out the photos, the movie became smoother, the way it was originally. There seems to be some sort of bug that has not been fixed in over a year.

Trouble importing photos into Elements 8 under Windows 7
Elements 8 is rejecting jpeg photos I am trying to import from SD card or DVD. The photos were taken with different cameras, and ones I've imported from successfully before. It labels the files as "corrupted", or "organizer doesn't recognize this file format" or other strange messages. I've successfully imported these files into Picassa, and Windows explorer - they are plain jpegs.
So right after posting the question, I decided to try to first import into the file system and then import from the file system, and that worked. But its a pain because it changes my workflow.
A possible workaround: You could use Windows Live Photo Gallery to download into your folders; the WLPG downloader is pretty good (WLPG is the version you download from Microsoft, not the one built in to Vista). Then you could use the Organizer's File > Watch Folder feature to automatically import new photos that get added to your folders by the downloader.
Do you use lightroom? Do you recommend it?
I don't use Lightroom, but it has a very good reputation. I know some other posters here use it.
