Trouble importing photos to Mac

When I connected my iPhone to my Mac, I got an error message saying that I could not import some of my photos. It said, "The file is in an unrecognized format."  I looked at the file name... it is IMG_0364.JPG.  I thought that was what all of my other photos that I imported were

  • Trouble importing photos previously deleted from Elements Organizer

I am having trouble importing photos from iPhoto into Photoshop Elements Organizer. When I try to import, it says "Nothing was imported. The files or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this catalog." The photos I want to import, I had previously deleted from the Organizer, so I think they are "already in this catalog" but I don't know how to find them.

How are you attempting to do this? Step by step, what are you doing?

  • Having trouble importing photos from Panasonic Lumix cameras. No error message 1 just has spinning ball, other can import using menu but ends with spinning ball. using 9.1.5 Mac OSX10.6.8. Have to restart to access iphoto

Hi I am trying to import photos into iPhoto using two Panasonic cameras both Lumix (DMC TZ3 and DMC FZ30). Worked in the past no problem, I upgrade system when prompted and am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 with iPhoto 9.1.5.  When I attach cable from camera to Mac with the DMC TZ3 I get the spinning ball and nothing else and have to force quite and restart to access iphoto again without the spinning ball, with the DMC FZ30, when I plus in the cable I get an icon on the desktop and can go into iphoto and import the photos that way.  When the photos have been imported I get the spinning ball again and have to restart the Mac to access iphoto without the spinning ball.  Photos do import though.
Can anyone help, a really stupid, non-techie person who has no idea what she is doing, please?
    Thank you

  • Import photos to mac

Trying to figure out how to import photos from iPhone 4S (I'm sure it's the same with 4) to my Mac. Here's what the iPhone user guide says:
Upload photos and videos to your computer: Connect iPhone to your computer using the Dock Connector to USB Cable.
Mac: Select the photos and videos you want, then click the Import or Download button in iPhoto or other supported photo application on your computer.
When I hook up the iPhone to the Mac and open iTunes the iPhone shows up in the left column with Music, Books, etc, but no Photos or Camera Roll. So how can I select the photos I want to transfer to iPhoto?? The photos sync page on the right side of iTunes seems to be only from Mac to iPhone since it also does not include Camera Roll.
Thanks in advance for the help.

The only photos that can be imported to your computer are photos in your camera roll. Use iPhoto to do this. The photo sync is one way: Computer to Phone.

  • Brand new Imac user having trouble importing photos (jpgs)

I am a brand new iMac user and am having trouble importing some of my photos into my new computer.
    Here is my dilemma:
    * All of my pics are jpgs that were shot using a sony DSC-W50 digital camera.
    * All were backed up on my exteral harddrive from my old Sony PC.
    * I loaded all of them onto my new iMac into the "Photos" area
    * When I try to import them to the iPhoto library, I get a message that either says "already in the iPhoto library" or 'unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data"
    * I can open all of the photos that I get this error msg on in other photo programs so I know the files are photos and are good.
    HELP!

iPhoto is not an image viewer, it's a Database with built-in image viewer, lightweight editing and version control, and like any database, data needs to be imported. However, iPhoto will not import from the iPhoto Library Folder.
So, move the photos to the Desktop and then import them from there.
    Here's what happens next:
iPhoto will make a copy of them in the iPhoto Library Folder. There they will be put into the Originals Folder. Here's how the iPhoto Library Folder is organised:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
If you need any more asistance post more.

  • I am having trouble importing photos, gets stuck on the same photo each time?!?

I am having trouble importing almost 3000 pics from my phone to my computer. Start up disk should be fine, cleaned it up before I began.  Import gets stuck on the same photo each time I try the import.  I have had to force quit a few times, and it can't seem to get past that same picture near the end.  Please help?!? It never gives me an error, it just keeps spinning and nothing is importing.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Trouble importing photos to DROBO on new iMac-painfully slow

I have been using LR without trouble for years. After switching from my old MacbookPro to a new iMac, I am unable to import photos. The trouble coincides with the move to the new computer.
LR recognizes the photos when I insert the CF card. I am able to start the import, but the import is ridiculously slow (20 raw images in an hour). I have backed up my catalogue and optimized the catalogue. When this failed to help, I trashed LR (by dragging application to trash) and reinstalled it.
I AM able to import onto my Hard Drive. But not to the DROBO where my LR library is contained.
Also, LR is no longer able to distiguish between new photos and photos already in catalogue. And at times I get a message saying that LR cannot open my catalogue. Rebooting the computer fixes this, but it is a troubling message.
    Thank you for your help.

Check the Drobo support pages and third-party sites. The Drobo is infamous for being desperately slow under some circumstances and for some apps. It also appears that the app is having trouble locking the Lr catalogue database on the Drobo device, which is why you are getting errors opening up the app sometimes.
It really sounds like you have some config problems you need to sort out.  Start from the basics: how is the Drobo storage physically accessed by the iMac, and what protocol is it using to get the storage to show up in /Volumes/?
Make sure the Drobo firmware is up-to-date, and check the iMac logs (and the Drobo logs, if it has such a thing) to see if there is anything out of the ordinary there. You may also want to verify that the cables and connectors you use to get from the iMac to the Drobo are sound. Swap cables if you have to, just to rule that out. If you are using Firewire or USB, make sure the cables are rated for the highest speed each devices supports, and that you are not going through any dodgy hubs.
Because it sounds like it is sustained bulk transfers that are suffering; typically this indicates that one device or another in the chain is slowing the traffic down in order to satisfy a basic data safety requirement.

  • Trouble Importing Photos into iMovie

I am trying to import photos into iMovie and am having trouble. They look like they are importing OK, and when the import is through (the red bar has finished loading) the picture disappears and the clip becomes blank. This is happening when I import from the finder, from iPhoto, or from FILE>Import, and with lots of different photo sizes, none seem to work. My iMovie project file is located on an external drive with tons of space. I have plenty of space of the startup disk, so I don't know why this is happening, and it was working fine a few days ago. Any ideas?

I had this problem last year (August-Sept 2007), and I'm having it again now (August 2008). When I import jpeg photos from iPhoto to iMovie, they turn black and are not accessible in iMovie. In addition, this time when I imported several photos, the replay of the iMovie became jerky. When I threw out the photos, the movie became smoother, the way it was originally. There seems to be some sort of bug that has not been fixed in over a year.

  • How to fix- taking forever to import photos to mac

Why is it taking so much time to import photos into iphoto on my mac?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Trouble importing photos from Canon Power Shot SD1300

Until today, my family has had no difficulty importing photos into iPhoto from our Canon Power Shot SD1300 camera. But when I plugged in today to import the most recent few months of shots, the program would not accept the .jpg file format (or so the notice said). Similarly, Image Capture would not import the images.
I'm running iPhoto 8.1.2, Image Capture 6.0.1 on a MacBookPro6,2 with an Intel Core i5/2.4 GHz machine with OS X 10.6.8.
Why is this suddently not working? Did something happen with recent updates of software that screwed everything up? We've tried most of the sensible things from the camera end: deleting old photos so the memory card shouldn't be overloaded, recharging battery....
    What's next?
    TCC

Unfortunately, the iPhoto error message, which had something to do with "not recognizing the file type" or something (though they were listed as .jpg files) no longer shows up. Now iPhoto thinks there are no photos on the camera, though there are quite a few actually.
Image Capture recognizes that there are image files, but says, "Import Error. An error occurred while importing. 347 items were not imported." And then it begins with a list of the first files on the camera.

  • Trouble importing photos to iPhoto '11

I import a group of photos - in my albums it shows the album there with 13 photos. I can sweep across the album and see the photos in there. But when I double-click on the album it shows no photos. I sign off, sign back on - the imported album is gone. Is there a new way to import photos successfully with iPhoto '11?

    Sounds like a damaged database.
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Trouble importing photos into Lightroom 3

I was no longer able to  import photos into Light room 3 so I removed everything to "My Pictures" to a folder named Light room Photos and uninstalled and reinstalled Light room, but when I try to import my photos back into Light room from that folder it "no photos found" which was why I tried this to begin with as whenever I tried to import from a memory card it came up with "no photos found.  Any ideas?@

I'm having the same problem as you.
Lightroom 5.2 has been running for a year and now it's just stops importing from my CF cards.
Is that the same problem, or a different problem?
    What is the error message?
I've got Permissions set to allow me to do anything so, that ain't the issue either.
This is often the first response and when we insist that we see screen captures of the Import dialog box and the permissions on the folder specified under "Destination", it turns out the permissions are not set properly.
So, we need to see screen captures of both your Import dialog box and the permissions on that exact folder specified under Destination

  • Trouble importing photos to iphoto

When I try to import photos to iphoto, I get this message for each photo, "The volume for DSC.#.JPG can not be found. Insert disk or connect to the server volume and wait for it to appear on the desk top, then try again". It gives me the option to cancel, find photo, or ok; I click cancel and photo is imported. iphoto is recognizing my camera, and it is on the desk top but I can't figure out why this happens. I have reformatted my SD cards but this doesn't help. I've been using iphoto for about 6 months and this is the first time this happens. Im using iphoto 09 and everything is up to date.

This sometimes occurs if you’re importing a file into iPhoto and there’s already a file there with the same name. Digital cameras can produce many, many files with the same name over their lifetime, so it’s not uncommon to have several files called IMG_00543.JPG, for instance. Now you want to import one also called this.
What happens is that iPhoto compares the two files to check for duplicates. However, if iPhoto cannot find the file already in the database for comparison, then you get this message. It suggests that your database is damaged because iPhoto has lost track of this (or these) similarly named files.
A simple test is to rename the file you are importing - just add a character - IMG_00543a.JPG for instance. If this then imports with no issue then you might consider rebuilding your library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
