Trouble in paradise

Howdy,
I searched for answers about why I'm having trouble with DVDSP playing on Windows Media Player computers and didn't find much, but then, I didn't go back to year one, either...
I've made lots of DVD's and haven't had any calls or complaints until now. It's a hospital and they've tried it in several PC's without success. WMP will play the sound, but no picture. Another program (shareware of some kind) they tried won't read it at all. It will, however, play on their DVD machines. It also played on all of mine. I don't have a DVD player on my PC so I can't test it out, without spending more bucks on a drive.
Did I miss the memo on how to make this right, or, should I just give everyone back their money and plant onions until first frost?

Could it be anything I'm doing in the burning process?
I don't think so. Computers can play almost any DVD even if you burn a small VIDEO_TS folder in a CD it will play. Stand alone DVD players are MORE sensitive to burning and encoding workflows.
No matter that I found that for me & my burner DVDSP is the worst DVD burning program. I use to generate a DVD image and burn it using Toast ot Disk Utility. Read this tutorial about Creating Disc Image in DVDSP.

I was happily using a form for my staff to use to request field time. The form contained 3 signature fields, which were all working fine, until I had to go into the form to add more objects, in an attempt to combine two forms into one. After I added the other information on the form. My staff can sign and send me the request, but I am no longer able to approve and sign (the second signature field), because I get the following messages in the order written:

Importing Avchd in iMovie 8.0.5 - troubles in paradise

I just updated my iMovie from 8.0.3 to 8.0.5. But i can no more upload my avchd movies to iMovie, as i could before.
I am using a panasonic DMC-TZ7/

Wifi failure - Apple return policy

I use my computer in my business. I really need it!
I can't stand next to a router in my business
I shipped my laptop to a relative 1000 miles away on April 2, because I never dreamed the iPad would not work. I counted on the iPad.
Apple should ship me a replacement product with a return shipping label for the damaged product. They could even charge my credit card another $600, and credit the card when you received the damaged unit back. Then I would at least be able to make some use of the product in the meantime, while sitting next to a router.
Since I did not pay an extra $100 the Applecare Protection Plan, I'm screwed. This protection plan should apply to purchased products that eventually require service. *This is a product that was defective when it was shipped*.
For a company to be as proud of their reputation as Apple, and to treat their customers this way is SHOCKING. The 202 comments following the _article below_ from Techcrunch and the Huffington Post is going to 203.

Just one day after launch and there are already scores of complaints on the Apple support site over faulty wifi on the iPad. A typical complaint is that the iPad shows no wifi signal, or a very weak signal, where other devices pick it up just fine:
I'm having this issue with my iPad as well. It’s dropping down to one bar in a part of the house the most other devices, including my MBP and my iPhone, get full service. The WiFi is so dense in our house that I often get signal outside on most of my devices. The iPad’s WiFi antenna is like the new iMacs – it’s centrally located behind the Apple logo, and it’s tiny. The difference is the iMac’s Apple logo isn’t usually resting on something; the iPad’s usually is.
Count me in as someone who’s having iPad Wifi issues as well. The device works fine near the router, but on the other side of the house, nada. But my Macbook pro and my Nexus One and other various devices I’ve brought into the house pick up wifi just fine in that area.
Early Macbook Air users complained of Wifi issues, too. I eventually abandoned the computer because the only place Wifi worked was in the Apple store, even though I was using Apple networking equipment at home.
My understanding of Wifi issues on devices, particularly cramped devices like the Macbook Air and iPad, is that it’s usually a hardware/design issue and something that can’t be fixed via a software patch. I hope that’s not the case with the iPad, because faulty Wifi would make this a very unattractive device. Particularly if they run into Macbook Air type problems.
As one commenter on the Apple site said, “Not spending $500 on something I cant even use. Its going back tomorrow.”

IPad 2: DOA - Errors 9, 28, Demands to be Restored

An overall unimpressed Apple customer here in Rochester, NY. After an incredibly tedious launch event shrouded in mystery over units on hand, long lines, long waits, and the usual upselling, I managed to acquire one of just 15 iPads on hand at our local Best Buy store.
And after all that, no joy.
The symptoms:
Initial power up shows Apple logo, then screen goes blank and remains so after repeated power up, reset attempts.
After plugging in unit, iTunes immediately recognizes trouble in paradise: Unit is in restore mode and must be recovered before use. No serial number, version, or other information visible.
Attempts to recover unit bring these results.
Attempt 1: Error code 9, unit aborts recovery.
Attempt 2: Error code 9 again -- I shut down and reboot computer.
Attempt 3: Appears to successfully recover unit, but moments after initial sync, horizontal lines appear on screen briefly and unit shuts off. Will not restart.
Attempt 4: Try to perform same procedure an another computer with fresh install of iTunes. Error code 28 the result after multiple attempts.
Attempt 5: Place unit back in box for return to store.
Other notes: Unit fully charged from included power brick. Was 16GB Wi-Fi white model.

Try this process;
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Keep holding the buttons until the iPad powers off. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable to the iPad, it should power on.
If you see a screen with a depleted battery, let the iPad charge for at least ten minutes and then start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button. If necessary, open the iTunes app on your computer. You should see the "recovery mode" alert.
5. Use iTunes to restore the device.

Desaturated colors in book-pdf when reopened in PS

I'm putting together a book in iPhoto. I haven't done this since I upgraded to Tiger. Previous books have been fine in terms of color management. I'm always careful to keep tabs on which color space my pictures reside in. Figuring iPhoto was a consumer oriented application and since I was not sure if it honored embedded profiles or not I've put all my images into sRGB and doing all editing in Photoshop prior to importing into iPhoto. After assembling the book in iPhoto I've always printed to a pdf file which I've then re-opened in Photoshop to double check the colors against the original images. So far this has worked like a charm. Now after upgrading to Tiger and using iPhoto 5.0.4 there's trouble in paradise. For some reason when reopening the pdf file in Photoshop all the colors have much less saturation, although the file opens in the same sRGB colorspace as the originals. The sRGB profile is even embedded in the file. Everything seems fine but still the pictures lose saturation somwhere in the process, indicating a possible color space mismatch. The color balance seems pretty accurate but the saturation suffers. I wonder if anyone has come across this and found the solution?

Nexus 7010 mgmt0 useage opinion

As a Senior Network Engineer I have entered into a bit of a debate with our Architect about the use of the mgmt0 interfaces on the nexus 7010 switch (dual-sups, M2 and F2 linecards).
I would like to know opinion of the Cisco support network.
I believe the mgmt0 interface should left alone for control plane traffic only and Out Of Band management access (ie ssh). At the moment I have made a subnet for all VDCs with the mgmt0 (vrf management) sitting in a common subnet. The physical mgmt0 interfaces from both SUPs are connected a management hand off switch. The mgmt0s also serves as our control plane for VPCs. The VPC peer-link however is using main interfaces of the line-cards.
The opinions;
- The Architect thinks we should use all the mgmt0 interfaces for snmp, ntp, tacacs netflow-analysis and switch management.
- However, I think I should use a traditional Loopback to perform these functions within the linecards. The mgmt0 should only be used if traditional restricted switch access has failed.
My Basis;
the Loopback never goes down, uses multiple paths (the OOB hand off switch could fail closing switch management access completely). The mgmt0 should be used as a last resort of management access to CMP.

I see your point about wanting to mitigate the impact of losing the OOB switch. I don't think the mgmt0 interface going down is considered the level of failure that will trigger a Supervisor switchover though. That's the way I read the Nexus 7000 HA whitepaper (and what I've seen based on some limited experience with taking apart a 7k pair).
So, no the 7k can't send you an SNMP trap or syslog message if it's configured management path is offline. Mitigation of that could be via your NMS polling the devices's mgmt0 addresses. No response = trouble in paradise. Investigation step would be to log into the 7ks using the loopback IP and local authentication since your TACACS source-interface (mgmt0) is offline and going from there.
The handful I've built (mostly 5k setups) I go for a Cat 3k switch with dual power supplies as the OOB switch. Once one of those is setup and seen not to be DOA, it's generally going to stay up until someone goes in and uplugs it or initiates a system reload.

Mini-Dvi-to-Video trouble

I just bought a mini-dvi-to-video adapter so I could use my TV as a display. More specifically, so I could use my VCR to record what's on my Mac's display. I also bought a headphone-to-composite cable adapter. I'm using a double-headed (is that one male or female? It's male, isn't it?) composite cable from the video adapter to the VCR. The problem is, it doesn't show up. The sound plays (and records) fine, but the video neither shows up on the TV screen nor records onto the tape. What's the problem? Both adapters are Dynex, my computer's a Late 2006 iMac (I think), the cable is WireLogic, and both the VCR and TV are Sony. Please help, thanks.

So if you eliminate the double headed splitter and plug straight into the TV, does the video still not show up?
FYI, there have been reports in the past of trouble with the Dynex video adapter. You may need to purchase the Apple OEM one. The Dynex may lack having a ROM inside of it with a proper EDID in the ROM. This is crucial to the Mac.

Trouble Using Apple's Video Adapter

I am having trouble getting my eMac to work with the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter. There are no directions telling you how to use it or to even get it to work. I want to use it to import videos from my Sony Hi8 camcorder and was told by Apple's Live help that this is what I needed to import video and make DVDs. How do I get this adapter to work?

Welcome aboard.
I think the adapter you have is for video output, not input. To input video to the eMac you need a firewire connection. Sony cameras typically have a 4 wire connector which is smaller than the 6 wire plug on the mac, so you need a cable that has a 4 wire connector on one end and a 6 wire connector on the other. Cameras often (but not always) come with such a cable. You also need a digital camcorder- not just Hi8., although Sony does make cameras that will do both. If you camera does not have digital output, you need a convertor box.

I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

If this is your only Backup would suggest getting a New EHD and creating another one... Preferably a Clone if you don't already have one.

I am having trouble printing to an Epson XP600. It is a new printer and it has been replaced because we thought it was the printer. Basically, when I print from Excel, only color will print.

I have been having a lot of trouble with the latest itunes update and my ipod classic 80Gb i.e. being unable to sync songs, but now i have no files at all on my ipod, it is completely blank when i view it from my computer. I need help, please, anybody.

As it says above, i have been having a lot f trouble with my ipod classic and the latest itunes update, i was unable to sync songs or anything to it and have tried every conceivable 'fix' i could find. i have run an itunes diagnostic and the results are posted below. a major problem is that when i try and view my ipod through my computer it displays nothing at all on the ipod, no files or anything, this may be the problem but i have no idea how it has happened or how i could resolve it.
This ipod holds huge sentimental value and i am loathe to buy a new one! If anybody can help it is greatly appreciated, than kyou in advanced.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

I purchased the student version of Photoshop and Lightroom a few weeks ago
I have a 19 digit code that i had to scratch to get, a 30 digit number under the bar code, and a 6 digit authorization code that seems to be completely pointless. I started off putting in the 19 digit code with all my other information, but it wanted 24. so I filled in the rest with zeros. Then it starts giving me so much trouble I don't think I'll ever attempt to get photoshop again.

Trouble accessing photos.

Hello! Need help! Having trouble accessing photos from Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0, I had a free trial but never registered the program because I was not using it. The other day I was taking pics off a Canon camera, & they automatically loaded into that site. I selected cancel several times, but the program did not respond. Once they completely loaded in, the program asked if I wanted to erase photos from the camera, I selected no but it started erasing them, I was able to stop it but 44 were erased off the camera. I can see the photos in the program but can not access them since I never registered. I tried to register now but received email saying that program has expired. So how do I get my photos? Please help! The photos are not mine, I was loading them from a friends camera, & they are important vacation memories to her! Thanks! Ruth

When you click on one of the thumbnails do you see a blank window where the full sized image? Or do you see this in the window:
In either case make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
