Trouble installing a printer

I just moved to an intel iMac and am having trouble installing a new Hp Printer. When Going thru the install process it stops with this message The system extension "/System/library/extensions/CNQL2410_ClasssicNotSeize.Kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contacting the product's vendor for an update.
How can I go about this. If i locate it on my backup drive can i restore it from my old imac g5?
Thanks
Dan

Your best bet is to go direct to the HP support site, enter the details of the printer and download drivers / follow instructions given there

Hold down the option key and select

Try the following:  On the Windows 7 computer go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a new port, Local port, Next, \\xpcomputername\lj3015 (where you put in the actual share name of the computer and printer), OK, Windows Update (and wait for the list to repopulate), HP Laserjet 3015 PCL5,  Next, Next.

  • Trouble installing Canon printer on my Mac

I am having trouble installing the Canon C3220 printer on my Mac powerbook 15-inch 1.3Ghz. It has 10.3.9 on it. The Canon printer sits on my work network. I have installed the lastest Mac printer driver for the C3220. When I got to set up the printer. I choose the Kind of printer, then I get the following message: unable to communicate with device. I then try to set the printer up manually, but then nothing prints to the printer. Other mac users on my network can print to the printer, and they have the same driver installed on their machine. Is there something I am doing incorrect? I tried contacting our Canon suppliers, but they do not know how to use Mac machines. I have another network Canon printer installed on my machine whicgh I can print to fine. So not too sure if it is something wrong with my machine or with how the printer is set up.

saying something about PowerPC applications and i have no idea what that is.
Basically, in layman terms, they are applications that can only run on non-Intel computers.  Support for PowerPC applications I believe stopped with the Lion os system.  Which one do you have?  Your system profile is lacking this information.
Am i going to have to buy a new printer??
More than likely if your printer does meet the system requirements.  You will need to call HP tech support or visit the HP website, look for your model printer & read its system requirements.  If your printer does meet your system requirements, its possible you all you need to do is update the printers drivers.

  • Trouble Installing a Printer in OS 9.1

I have a Hewlett Packard All-in-One 1510 printer. I got the driver downloaded ok from their website and it put a file with an *.smi extension on my desktop. But when I click on it nothing happens and I can't figure out how to get the printer to show up in Chooser. I tried downloading the OS 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 updates thinking maybe that would help, but they won't extract or install either. The upgrade to 9.1 from 9.0 went smoothly enough, but now when I try to get the others installed I get a 'shrink-wrap' error. Help please!

    Hi Tammy,
Using a Mac gets easier with everything you do. I have been using Macs since 1984 and their predecessors since 1976. There is not as steep a learning curve as there is with Windoze boxen, nor as many problems.
Enjoy your Mac and Thank You for the solved star!

  • Can't install a printer

I am having trouble installing a printer to my mac. When I go into the "Settings" for "Fax&Printers" page, the normal pull down menu that lets you choose from USB/Bonjour/IP is not showing up. In fact all of the regular printer options aren't even enabled. When I try to find nearby printers it doesn't pull up the printer I am trying to select.
I am running Parallels on this machine as well, and figured it was an issue with that. But when I closed Parallels and tried it again, I kept running into the same problem. I've restarted/installed updates and I'm stuck. Suggestions?

If you want to hook it up via wireless, it needs to support the wireless standard used by Apple, or be setup for printer sharing either in the wireless access point's own settings, or hooked up to another computer that has printer sharing turned on.    It would help to know the model of the printer, and not just the make, to be able to give you a concise answer on which of these methods is most likely to be fruitful.  And you are running Mac OS X 10.6 something on your machine, correct?

  • Trouble installing hp photosmart printer

Having trouble installing a new hp photosmart c4680 on my ibook g4 running 10.4.11. Computer doesn't recognize the printer is connected. Used the install disk without success. Downloaded drivers from hp website without success. Any suggestions?

In some cases, you could've tried using the printer without installing its drivers from
the included software disc; because OS X has several printers already supported.
The likelihood of this support being already in the computer would depend on a few
factors, such as the actual age of the printer's driver technologies. Often, a printer
whose driver set includes more recent OS X version drivers, also includes those for
older OS X systems, too. I've usually tried the printer (attached, turned on, then boot
the Mac) and with it running, hooked up to the Mac, I've looked into the Page Setup
and Print items in an open application's File menu, and see if the printer is listed.
Special features included, such as extra editing software for images, proprietary
options exclusive to the brand, may be packaged in the software disc included
with the printer. In the case of the HP printers, especially some all-in-one models
with scanners, fax, copier, and printer, these can be a hassle to set up. For mine,
I had to go to the HP support site and download a huge 300MB file of drivers for it.
On the other hand, my Epson photo printer just works; even over a USB wireless
plug-in on my base station or direct to the wired USB networked hub nearby. No
need to install any drivers for several brands, even in OS X 10.4.11.
If you have more than two sets of similar drivers, you may have to research to
be sure the one(s) you have are able to work in the OS X in the computer. Any
others should be removed from the computer. Some of the software extras, to
include stitching panoramas and third-party editing options should be checked
into before using them, to be sure they don't install more when launched than
you may want. Installing unnecessary or problematic software should be avoided.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Trouble installing OffiiceJet Pro 8000 Series 809 wireless

I am running Windows 7 64x .The disc that came with the computer, just shows a spinning disc - forever. Then I downloaded the most recent drivers and same thing. I followed all the trouble shooting that hp automatically downloaded to my desktop. I have tried so many times, I don't have much hair left!
One of the suggestions was to remove the printer and the print server properties The firdt time I did this just the 8000 was removed. Now wheever I attempt that option, it also wants to remove another wireless printer in my house - which I do not want to do.
I bought the printer for the wireless capabilities - this is the last chane before I return ir..

First of all, i am sorry to hear that you had surgery a few days ago, and i totally know the result of pain pills and putting you to sleep. i hope you heal soon from your surgery...
the HP Setup that you see under available networks  is actually the printer.  It is like that for users who want to connect to it AdHoc.
What i would try, is to install the printer using the usb cord (not wireless) and after it is installed usb if you go to start>programs>hp>8000 you should see an opition to change it to wireless.

  • Since I installed a printer software Satellite L300 has stopped working

    Hello there!
I'm new here so not really sure if I'm posting in the right place. Mods, please feel free to move to the relevant section, thank you.
OK I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 Laptop and ever since I installed a printer software on Wednesday night, my laptop has suddenly stopped working!
Ever since Thursday night, I have been trying to get it working but I'm faced with this message:
when i load it up it goes to Windows error recovery:
'windows has failed to start.a recent hardware or software change might be the cause
if windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem.if power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally'
then it gives two options: Launch startup repair (recomended)
    start windows normally
    ==========
-so i click launch startup repair (reccomended)
-then a scren loads up called 'system recovery options'.. it says: select an operating system to repair and click next.only windows vista operating systems are listed and can be repaired
if you do not see your operating system listed, click load drivers to load drivers for your hard disks'.....
but nothing comes up so i click load drivers and it just gives me loads of random folders...and i haven't a clue which ones to load
    ========
    5 years ago Report Abuse
    Additional Details
    so i just click 'next'
    ========
    then i have 5 options:
    -startup repair
    -system restore
    -windows complete pc restore
    -windows memory diagnostic tool
    -command prompt
    ==========
startup repair says it cannot manually fix any problems
-system restore just says your computer is in a limited state and performing this action cannot be changed...but there is no option to do so
-windows comple pc restore says i need to insert a backup disk which I dont have
windows memory diagnostics tool says that windows is preventing this
    ============
but on the system resotre it tells me to type something like: rstrui.exe /OFFLINE:C:\Windows
but i don't know where...i typed it in the command prompt but don't understand how to use it
    =========
i also tried to click start windows normally but it won't work

If the problem is installed software, start notebook in safe mode and try to start system restore from there.
Please let me know which options are available. Can you roll back OS few days back?
Are some restore points listed there?

  • Windows 7 x64 can't read/install any printer drivers from Windows Server 2003 x64 (AMD64 folder and HP Deskjet 855c)

I read the thread Widows 7 printer
HP deskjet 855c driver about possible installation of HP855c drivers onto Windows 7 x64 from "Windows Server 2003 x64" CD but I didn't have enough luck to succeed with doing it on my laptop. That thread appears to be dead now
as it is marked "Answered", so I'm asking for help here. I have Toshiba Satellite P500 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (http://i55.tinypic.com/2zgth6v.jpg).
Let me tell you first that I don't have access to Windows Server 2003 x64 or XP Pro 64 CD's. However I did some research online, which eventually forced me to learn about the "file sharing". After extensive search I was able to get the copies
of AMD64 folders from Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 with SP2 and
XP Pro 64. The reason that I went also after XP Pro was because I thought that the extra wording "R2 Standard x64 with SP2" in description of "Windows Server 2003" did not reflect the exact name provided by poster
Alan. I couldn't find just "Windows Server 2003 x64" (does it matter?).
Anyway, I followed first the drill with running "printui /s /t2" and disabling UAC, and then in both cases I was able to locate the
NTPRINT.INF file (http://oi51.tinypic.com/9qwvt2.jpg - this image is from XP Pro AMD64 folder) but each time when I
attempted to install the driver, I got the same message stating:
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software drive for your device. If the folder contains the driver, make sure it's designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems." (http://oi53.tinypic.com/27yveiw.jpg)
    Why aren't there x64 drivers?
During several installation attempts I had the printer connected to or disconnected from my laptop. It didn't make any difference. I must add that for this purpose I had to use different cable than the original one designated only for the
Parallel port in my old desktop with Windows XP. My new laptop with Windows 7 x64 came only with 3 USB ports (plus 1 HDMI and 1 Serial). Because of that situation I bought in advance a new printer cable called “USB to 36-pin Parallel Port Adapter
Cable” (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003A8I75E). I'm not sure, if it will work until I can install the printer.
Besides, nobody talked about this issue yet. I was also playing with the port choices in "Add printer" step; changing from default LPT1 to USB001 with the same negative results.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I was very hopeful after reading positive "case closed" notes there.
Can anyone help me here, maybe by making the necessary files available for download? I'm willing to pay for such assistance or make a donation, if necessary. Seriously. Judging by the large number of views of the original
thread, one could assume that there is a potential demand for such service. It would be more human to pay few bucks for a few driver files than $900 for the whole Windows Server 2003 x64 CD, no? Can Microsoft accomodate me/us, please? :)
    Andrew*
P.S. I was advised to come for help here from
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/windows-7-x64-cant-readinstall-any-printer-drivers/4e7d06e1-33a5-4597-be70-4fdc087a63a7?msgId=9a045994-0d31-4d40-b17d-dba372393ee4

I have my HP 855c/driver working on Win 7 Ultimate x64. I used the 'printui /s' procedure and 4 files described above with some minor changes.
I pulled WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.exe down from the Microsoft website. Running the file causes the exe to unpack into a temp folder at the root drive. A 'Setup Error' message box is displayed once the file is run. I left this
message box up until I copied ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, and sp2.cab from the temp folder.
I copied driver.cab from a Windows XP Pro disc. I also needed amd64\stdnames.gpd which was already in my Windows 7 c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 folder.
I created a folder with the 5 files (ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, sp2.cab, driver.cab, and amd64\stdnames.gpd). This is my 'Have Disc' folder.
I followed the 'printui /s' instructions, first changing the permissions mentioned above and then installing the driver. Next I followed the instructions to add a printer from Control Panel 'Devices and Printers' - 'Add Printer', choosing to 'use an existing
driver' when installing the HP 855c.
I used a slightly different ntprint.inf, size 1570418. The readable contents of ntprint.inf is as follows. Notice the line 'CatalogFile=ntprint.cat' is not included. I tried using the 1570468 version of ntprint.inf; when I did I received an incompatibility
message (probably the same one mentioned above).

  • How do I install a printer?

yes I know it sounds like an idiotic question; please bear with me. I have a relatively modern (<1 year old) business colour laserjet (Kyocera Mita Ecosys FS-C5025N) which is connected to my home network via wired ethernet. My MBP is also connected to my network via wired ethernet. My problem is that having once installed my printer (and had it working) I had to turn the printer off to clear a job and now my MBP won't communicate with it.
When I turned it off and on again, the DHCP on my network gave my printer a new address (192.168.1.5 instead of 192.168.1.19). So I'm guessing that OS X has 'lost' it in some way. My solution was to go into System Preferences, Print and Fax, and delete the printer, with the expectation of being able to reinstall it. however, the problem is that when I click '+' in Print and Fax to add a printer, my K-M printer is nowhere to be found (when I installed it the first time, OS X found the printer automatically and I just selected it).
So how can I find/install this printer again? When I click the + in Print & Fax now I am presented with 4 options, default, Fax, IP and Windows. If I select IP and put in 192.168.1.5 under 'Address' (using all other default options, protocol = Line printer Daemon LPD, etc) it finds the printer. However, once installed, when I check the printer out, I see a yellow 'attention triangle' with the message 'this printer was not installed properly'.
I thought that I would try downloading the driver from the Kyocera Mita site. I've done this and installed the printer this way ... it all ran correctly but when I go back into Print & Fax - no printer is to be found? Is there a secret directory somewhere into which I must go and delete something rogue that's gumming up my system?
Any ideas, you gurus out there? Solved Stars await! Please.

Thanks Pahu, much appreciate the input. I'm working through this now and have the following: Apologies for War & Peace - I just wanted to be precise...
Looking up Bonjour I see that it's a 'IP protocol to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers'. When I set up the printer the first time, I do recall OS X finding it and the word Bonjour was there (I just didn't know what it meant). So I'm guessing that the printer must have had the right responder settings for it to work. It's just this time round it's not finding it. Nothing has changed on the printer end (apart from switch-off, switch-on). Hence, as I've come from 20+ years in Windows, I know that sometimes you have to delete registry entries to clear a problem before reinstalling a device, I wondered if there was a similar Apple procedure?
Looking at the manual, I see that the printer is PCL6 and Postscript3 compatible with auto emulation sensing. So I've set up the first test to be as an IP printer, LPD, inputting the address 192.168.1.5 in the Address field, and using the generic PCL driver as you suggest. When I click Add, I don't see any options but I guess that's because of the generic driver. The printer now appears in my Print & Fax box, but when I double click it I see a new box which says that the printer software was installed incorrectly, please re-install. Despite this, I can print to it (I tested from within Word). But I have no advanced options.
I would like to set up a second test using the Kyocera printer driver (using the generic PCL driver doesn't give me any printer options). I have downloaded this one here http://usa.kyoceramita.com/americas/jsp/Kyocera/download_center.jsp?pid=16744&pc at=10563&rcid=10009&rscid=10007#bottom, selecting the 'Kyocera Mita OSX 10.4 & 10.5 installer v 1.0' and the 'Kyocera Mita OSX 10.6 Permissions Fix' as you suggest in your reply. The former download a .mpkg.zip file which I extracted (53 items) using zipeg. When I ran the file it said that it was an installer for the printer, and completed successfully. When I checked in Print & Fax, clicked the +, there was no KM-printer installed (under default). This is consistent with the blurb about the permissions fix, which should fix this I guess?
So I then downloaded and unzipped the Permissions Fix, which put a folder (containing a file called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution.command) on my desktop. When I try to run this I receive the message 'this file could not be executed because you do not have the appropriate access privileges'. I'm the only user on my MBP with full privilege? When I checked through Finder, Get Info I have Read & Write access for this file.
There is a PDF which I've found to install this file. It says
Follow the Installation Instructions below to install the MAC 10.6 PPD Patch. The Patch will allow a new Kyocera Printer to be added.
Subject: 10.6 PPD File Patch Installation Instructions
On KMAconnect Download and run the OSX 10.4 & 10.5 Installer. (DONE)
Download the OSX10.6 permissionfix.zip file to your Mac running OSX 10.6.(DONE)
Double click the zip file to extract the contents to the desktop folder. (DONE)
Double click the file called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution. A Terminal window will open. (NO IT DOESN'T, I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE ABOVE)
Key in the password for the (Root) Administrator when prompted for the changes to take affect. (CAN'T DO THIS DUE TO ERROR MESSAGE ABOVE...)
Note: When keying in the Administrator Password, the Terminal window will keep the Password Masked so it will not display any change in the window when the characters are being input. If there is no password assigned, one must be created before running the OSX10.6 solution file.
You can now add a Kyocera Printer in the normal manner.
Any thoughts on how I can run this file?
I don't know if it matters but the PDF says the file in the Permissions Fix is called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution but it's actually called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution.command ...?
