Trouble installing Adobe reader on Mac OS

Oh please help. I am trying to urgently open some important legal documents on my iMac.
The documents come with a button telling me I need install adobe reader. However when I click the button and follow the process the last stage tells me Adobe Reader is already installed. I have tried un installing and reinstalling but am being sent round in circles and still unable to open the document.
In finder I can see that the programme is installed but the documents still tell me I require it. What can I do?

My guess is that you are trying to view these in a browser that ignores the Adobe Reader you installed. Save the documents to your desktop and open them from there.

having trouble installing Adobe Reader 8, know it's outdated, job requires it. System is Windows 7 Home Premium. Thank you.

You may see if there are solutions in this old thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3063830
Although that combination isn't supported, many people have made it work.
Why would a job require Reader 8? All older files are compatible with newer versions. Or at least they should be.

  • Is anyone else having trouble installing Adobe Reader X (10.0.1)?

Is anyone else having trouble installing Adobe Reader X (10.0.1)? When I download through Firefox and click, it starts, then says "main dialogue" not loaded.

What kind of trouble? What platform and version of OS? Any error messages? How are you trying to install Reader? Any previous versions of Reader and/or Acrobat installed?

  • Trouble installing Adobe Reader XI

I tried to install Adobe Reader XI on my Mac (OS 10.8.4), but the installation stopped at 96% and has been stuck there for about six hours now.  I can't quit the installation, which means I can't shut down my computer.  How do I quite the intallation?  Also, I have Acrobat Reader 5.0 on my computer.  How do I uninstall that?

Cmd+Opt+Esc will open the "Force Quit" dialogue and you can Force the installer to quit from there. If worse comes to worst, press and hold the power button for five seconds. Your Mac will "power offf". Wait a few seconds more and you can reboot.
How on earth can you have Acrobat 5.0 (which is a Power PC app and CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES run on an Intel Mac) on your system? It has to look ike this:
    Indicating it's incompatible.
You can use AppZapper to uninstall ANY app on your Mac (it's a free trial)
    Then:
    Download the offline installer: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Save it, but don't run it yet.
    Quit Safari
    Go to: Mac HD/Applications
Use AppZapper to "zap" the Reader 11 Application from there
    Go to: MacHD/library/Internet Plugins
    Trash the AdobePDFviewer.plugin from there
    Trash the AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin also
    Empty the trash
Mount the DMG and run the installer to reinstall Reader
When it finishes, reboot and open Reader from the Applications folder

  • Trouble Installing Adobe Reader on Yosemite

Mostly as the title says; I've tried multiple times now but I just can't seem to get Adobe Reader to install successfully on Mac OS X Yosemite since clean installing it.
The installer .dmg itself downloads fine at around 2mb, and it opens and runs as expected, except that the actual application download gets stuck around the 44% mark and nothing I do seems to make it get any further. Annoyingly there seems to be a leftover file somewhere that I can't find, as each time I run the installer it jumps quickly the same 44% mark and gets stuck again.
Is there a folder I can clear out to force the installer to try again from beginning? Or even better; if there an actual full-installer that just installs the application without the additional downloading? I've already tried a file claiming to be a "full installer" on the Adobe site, but it just turned out to be the same download of a downloader that I'm having trouble with.
What happened to the good old days where I could just download an installer that was actually an installer that installed things? Why even call this an installer anymore when it doesn't really contain anything?
Anyway, any help is appreciated, as the troubleshooting page doesn't seem to offer any real solutions, as everything it lists is to do with downloading the "installer", not what to do if that then fails to work properly.

I am having exactly the same problem. This is a new mac book (just a week old), my old one kept crashing and I need adobe reader for a online submission deadline (to fill out forms on the submission webpage).
Anyway, is there a way to clean potentially existing left-over files? Please let me know if you managed to get it fixed. Thanks ...

  • Can download but not install Adobe Reader on Mac OS X 10.4.11

I have downloaded both Adobe Reader 9 and 8, and tried to install them on my Mac. I have chosen the versions that go with my OS X 10.4.11. When I dubbleclick on the icon for the 8 version, I am told it cannot be opened, because the system doesn't support the programme. I can get to the installation guide with the 9 version, but when I try to install it, I am told the programme cannot be installed on this computer, and that I should check that the system meets the requirements. I have no idea what to do...

yes, I have amongst others these two, that are rather important for me to open
    http://pkn.dk/public/dokumenter/klageskema.pdf
    kbhmiljonet.dk/negativ0708.pdf
when I try to open these pages, I get a new window with the address up top, but completely black, and sometimes the frame with the computers programes comes up, and I have to chose something - sometimes it doesn't come up

  • Having Trouble Installing Adobe Reader, Error Messages

    Hi,
I've tried the direct Adobe Reader for Unix from Adobe, both the tar and slackware. I've also tried several packages from my distros' repo. None are working.
Most attempts seem to install and give a confirmation, but when I call from the menu, nothing happens. When I call from a terminal I get this innocuous error message: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'ASErrException' I have no idea what this is.
I use both LightHouse64 514b and Fatdog64 521f. I've installed the 32bit compatibility stuff from my distro in both (Puppy Linux).
I know some of whatever is wrong could be on my distro end, and I am seeking help there too.
Can anyone explain what this error message is, and what calls it?
Also, I would really like to see a tree of Adobe Reader files so that I could make sure that everything is where it's supposed to be. Could anyone point me somewhere?
Any input welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Eathray

  • Trouble installing adobe reader

I'm attempting to install a copy of adobe reader 9.3, which i downloaded from the adobe website, on a computer running windows xp with service pack three installed, but it fails and gives me an error, which says:
"AdbeRdr930_en_US.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience".
Checking the error information gives me:
    "AppName: adberdr930_en_us.exe  AppVer: 2.0.0.41  ModName: adberdr930_en_us.exe ModVer: 2.0.0.41  Offset: 000525c2"
And looking at the application log error i see:
"Faulting application adberdr930_en_us.exe, version 2.0.0.41, faulting module adberdr930_en_us.exe, version 2.0.0.41, fault address 0x000525c2."
I've tried searching these error messages, I tried downloading and installing an earlier version (adobe reader 8), and i believe i'm current with my windows updates, i ran it multiple times yesterday, but no luck so far.
If anyone has any help or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Try downloading the MSI installer, and see if that works better:

  • Installing & running adobe reader on Mac

I installed Adobe reader on Mac OS X 10.7.5, using both Safari & Firefox, but it didn't work in either.  Adobe is there, but won't run. I had Adobe before but then it disappeared.  I downlaoded again in order to open pdf fillable forms. When I return to these pages, which I used in the past, it now says (in Safari) can't use this browser or run and relaunch (same browser I used before) or (in Firefox) I must agree to licensing agreement before use, which never pops up for me to agree to. Any suggestions?

    Try the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
