Trouble installing EFI 2.3 (bless issue)

Hello,
I get this issue when trying to upgrade to EFI 2.3:
No appropriate ESP for /
Failed to determine auxiliary partition mountpoint for /
Error while writing firmware updater for EFI
I know it is related to an old Recovery HD deletion, which I rebuilt thanks to this tutorial: http://derflounder.wordpress.com/2011/10/22/removing-and-rebuilding-a-malfunctio ning-recover-hd-partition/
I can now boot from Recovery HD using CMD+R, but I can't fix this anoying Bless issue.
Does anyone have a clue ?
Loïs

I don't understand how this could be the problem. The computer works fine and all disc checks are good. It sounds to me like a BIOS issue, but I don't even know if it's called BIOS on a Mac, since I'm mainly a PC user. There seems to be something wrong with a hardware setting for the power button.
Also, the fan just started being REAL loud when we started this whole process. It won't shut up.

Hey robr72339266,
With a single user license, you can install Acrobat on maximum two computers, say, your laptop at work and desktop at office.
But, you cannot use Acrobat on both the machines simultaneously.
You will first need to deactivate Acrobat from the old machine, then install and activate the software on the new OS with the same serial key.
Please Contact | Adobe to seek help on the same.

• Trouble Installing Windows 8.1 on Yosemite

I am having trouble installing Windows 8.1 using the Bootcamp utility on OS X Yosemite. I downloaded the ISO file for 64 bit 8.1 from Microsoft and put it onto an 8gb USB drive using Bootcamp. My Macbook Pro is an early 2011 (MacBookPro8,2) and is currently running OS X 10.10.1. I know that my MBP doesn't usually support booting from a USB, so I modified the info.plist file using the steps outlined in this thread:
Enable Bootcamp to install from usb for OSX 10.9**WORKS**
This got it to give me the option to boot from the USB when I held the option key on startup.
I have tried the following methods for installing with different errors for each:
1. Installing using Bootcamp created partition
For this, I went through the normal steps in bootcamp and when I got to the disk partitioning stage, I tried to format the drive 0 partition 4 using the format button. After formatting, it wouldn't allow me to continue because of this error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk the selcted disk har an MR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks." This lead me to this thread: Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 Partition 4.. It mentions a difference between EFI v. preUEFI installations, but I don't know how to do a preUEFI installation. Enlighten me anyone?
2. Creating a "free space" partition with Disk Utility
For this, I created a free space partition in disk utility and used the Window's installer to format the partition. This allows me to get to the very end of installation, but I get the error message: "Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."
BTW, FileVault is turned off.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi mgallego,
Which step did the error start to occur ?Have you tried to install it again to have a check ?As the information stated, we can restart the machine to have a check.
Here is a link for reference of the requirements of the Windows 8.1 .

There may be a hardware issue here, it is also recommended to look for help from the manufacturer for help.

Yes, your fonts are locked. This is a known issue with different older versions of Adobe products if they are mixed. You need to take ownership and set their permissions to full access. There is some article on it in the knowledge base, but you might just as well do a web search on a more generic level about such procedures. An abbreviated summary of how to is contained in this article on my page (Security section).

• Trouble installing a *.msi file on a folder using Windows 7

I'm having trouble installing a *.msi file created under Microsoft Visual Studio.Net 2005 on a Windows 7 machine.  The problem occurs when I attempt to provide a directory for installation, but the installation wizard always defaults to the C: root
folder.  I can always move the created files and folders from the *.msi wizard to a directory of my choosing and run the tool
successfully.  But, I'm confused has to why the *.msi wizard always defaults to the C: root.
I have tried running the *.msi file in administrative mode using the various published methods but none of those methods are made available, in fact they are all disabled.  I.e. right click the *.msi file has a disabled "Run as Administrator"
option.  The properties under the *.msi file to "Run As Administrator" is also disabled.  And running the *.msi file under msiexec as also proven
unsuccessful.

Hello Marco,
From your description, this issue is related with the .msi file, i am afraid it is beyond the scope of our support, this current forum is used to discuss and ask questions about .NET Framework Base Classes (BCL) such as Collections, I/O, Regigistry, Globalization,

• Trouble installing itunes -itunessetup.exe is not a valid win32 application

I have trouble installing itunes. The following message appears: C:\Documents and Setting\Owner\My Documents\ itunsSetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I tried the following but I still have problems: remove previous version of itunes, remove quicktime, install again quicktime as a standalone, delete temporary files, restart computer, delete all itunes related files.

Finally an answer from Apple:
Dear Stefanie,
I understand that you're receiving an error when trying to open the iTunes
installer that you downloaded. I'd like to try to help you resolve this issue.
It appears that your web browser may be truncating your download of the iTunes
software. I urge you to try using a different web browser to download iTunes. If
this is not possible, you can also try using a different computer to download
iTunes, and then transfer the iTunes installer file (iTunesSetup.exe) to your
original computer and open it from there.
Some transfer options would include using your iPod to transfer the file via
hard disk mode, using a local network, burning a CD, using an external hard disk
or a USB drive, or even sending the file to yourself via email or over an
instant messaging network.
I hope this information helps to resolve your iTunes installation issue. If it
does not and you still need assistance from Apple, you will need to call Apple
technical support (there may be a fee associated with the call). To find the
appropriate phone number, please visit:

• Trouble installing lightroom

Had trouble installing lightroom 2 and 3 and now having problems installing lightroom 4.
It is a common problem for a lot of Adobe products, something with the downloader.
When you start to install it stops and say there isn't enough room or some stupid stuff.
HELP PLEASE

It isn't a money issue. It is a let your customers know issue.  I have used lightroom for a long time and have created a catalog system for thousands of photos.  Now I have to start all over again with a new system.  I should not have to search forums to find that I need to upgrade my computers, it should be included on any upgrade page for the software not hidden is a separate link.  The majority of pc are still running xp and for good reasons.  I guess when you get so big you forget how important loyalty is.  I was told for years that I would regret using adobe and now I understand why.
Thanks for your help.

• FAQ: I'm having trouble installing Flash Catalyst CS5, how do I clean up beta installations?

The majority of users have trouble installing Flash Catalyst CS5 when they have not properly run the uninstaller on a previous version (typically a beta version).
If this is the case, the first thing you should try is running the Adobe CS5 cleanup script: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/829/cpsid_82947.html

Flash Player Protected Mode provides a modern, sophisticated set of security protections that we see as critical in today's security landscape.
We highly recommend that users not disable ProtectedMode.  Also, it's worth noting that by manually changing your mms.cfg, you have opted out of Protected Mode for all future versions of Flash Player, as we will continue to honor that preference. This puts your system at risk, and that risk will continue to grow over time.
Ultimately, this is an issue with the RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in.  There is a more technical explanation in the Mozilla bug referenced above in the thread, but the simplified version is that the security enhancements designed to prevent the introduction of malware via Flash Player make RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in no longer compatible with Flash Player for Firefox.  You can disable the record functionality to eliminate this issue, while retaining the ability to view both Flash and Real Player content.
To disable the Real Player Browser Record functionality while maintaining the enhanced security provided by Flash Player with Protected Mode, do the following:
        Launch RealPlayer
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper-left corner of the window, and choose Preferences
Choose Download & Recording from the left-hand menu
Uncheck "Enable Web Download & Recording for these installed browser"
        Click OK

• HT3606 Trouble installing 10.5.8

I'm having trouble installing 10.5.8-- the installation process seems to freeze (it'll get maybe 10% through the progress bar, then stays in one place for upwards of 45 minutes).  What can I do?  Thanks!

Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
