Trouble installing Flash Player on Vista IE8

Hi, I'm not very computer saavy but I believe I tried everything in the trouble shooting section but I'm still unable to successfully download the latest version of flash player. I'm pretty sure I've uninstalled previous versions of flash player (the macromed file only has 2 text docs) and I'm able to download the latest version to the point it says "download complete" but when I test it, it's not working. I have Norton Antivirus (unpaid, but I'm not sure if it's a trail version because my computer crashed recently and my husband had to wipe everything out.) And I think I also have Windows Vista IE8. Please help. Thanks!!

  • Trouble installing Flash Player 11.8.800.94 on Macintosh

I have had repeated trouble installing Flash Player 11.8.800.94 on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) despite following every step listed in the Macintosh Installation Help guide: uninstalling previous versions, turning off anti-virus protection, etc. Each time I get a warning message for both Safari and Firefox attempted installations as follows: "Error: General installation error." The only solution seemed to be to reinstall an earlier version: 11.7.700.225.
    Any suggestions?

If you're not comfortable with terminal commands:
Download the offline installer here (right click and "Save as")
    Quit all browsers
Go to: MacHD/Library/Internet Plugins... and if the Flash Player.plugin is still there "trash it".
Then go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe and "trash" the Flash Player folder if it's still there.
    Empty the trash.
Mount the DMG and run the installer
Relaunch Firefox and it should work

Try uninstalling flash player using these directions. They
were posted by BWolfe from Adobe in another msg..
ONE: Identify possibly leftover Flash player bits
    a. Open C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash folder.
    b. Download the latest FP uninstaller from
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157.
    c. Run the uninstaller. If you get a notice saying you need
    to reboot, then reboot.
    d. Look at C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash folder.
    e. Does any file ending in .ocx remain? (flash.ocx,
    flasha.ocs, flash9d.ocx etc...)
e1. If no, then you don't usually have any leftover locked
    bits.
You're done with this part of the problem, go to the Adobe
home page and see if you can install the latest version of the
    Flash Player.
e2. If yes, then that remaining .ocx file may be locked.
    Right click it
and select properties and look at the version tab.
    What is the version number?
    f. Is the version number Flash Player 9.0.16.0 or earlier?
f1. Use the uninstaller instructions from this technote:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/4da116d3
-- section "Flash Player 9.0.16.0 and earlier"
-- DO NOT re-register the uninstaller. ONLY do this
    UninstFl.exe part.
Yes, you'll need to know how to use the command line to do
    this. If you're not
comfortable with that then take your machine to someone who
    is!
    g. Is the version number Flash Player 9.0.28.0 or higher?
g1. Use the uninstaller instructions from this technote:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/4da116d3
-- section "Flash Player 9 (9.0.28.0) and later"
-- DO NOT re-register the uninstaller. ONLY do this
    UninstFl.exe part.
In both the D and E sections above you'll need to use the
specific name of the control that remains
in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash. So if you had a
    stuck flash9b.ocx[DJM1] in the folder
and version was 9.0.28.0, your uninstall command would look
    like this:
    UninstFl.exe -u
    c:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx
That said, if you have trouble running these commands it
really is necessary to find someone who knows how
to use the command line, either a friend or a local
professional. Or spend some time learning about the
    command line yourself.
    h. RERUN the uninstaller you downloaded earlier. This should
get rid of the remaining (now unlocked) .ocx file and fix any
    registry keys associated with it.
ALL of section "ONE: Identify possibly leftover Flash player
bits" is important. BUT this locked bit problem only happens on
maybe one out of 50 machines. So most people with installation
problems such as this are not going to have locked bits.

  • Trouble installing Flash Player 10.1

When installing Flash Player, I receive an error Unable to Register and the installation stops.
I have run the uninstall program, rebooted, and tried to rerun the installation program with the same results.
I am running XP-Pro-SP3 and Explorer 8.  Any ideas, or do I need to go straight to support?

First, make sure that you run the installer under an Administrator account.
If the error persists, you may need to go through the procedure outlined at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html

  • Trouble installing Flash Player 9

Hi, I am trying to install Flash Player 9 and having a hard time.  I have uninstalled 10 and downloaded the archived folder for nine.  when I try to install 9r124_winax.exe it starts to install and then I get a popup that tells me it is not the most current version and that I can go to Adobe to get the most current one.  The only option is to click OK, then the download stops.  I don't want version 10 as it freezes a web page I need for school. Is there anyway I can work around this popup page and get version 9 installed.  Thanks

I think the problem you are having is because you already have a Flash Player installed. You will need to uninstall Flash Player 10 from your machine before installing Flash Player 9. To uninstall Flash Player grab the uninstaller for your operating system from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html. Note that running this uninstaller removes all Flash Players from your computer so Flash will no longer work in any browser until you install a new Flash Player for that browser. Adobe has seperate installers for Internet Explorer and FireFox/Safari.
Once the uninstaller finishes you can install a new Flash Player. Get the Flash Player you want from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, be sure to run the installer for the browser you are using. Note you should close your browser for the whole process of uninstall and install.
    Good luck.
    Sean

  • Installing Flash Player in Vista

I´ve had trouble installing the latest Flash Player in windows vista. Even when it´s worked in the past, the next time I use the computer, it no longer seems to be installed. Could it be my antivirus that blocks this? I use Avira.
When I try to download Adobe flash, I get the following message:
Adobe Flash Player is not supported for playback in a 64-bit browser. However, you can run Flash Player in a 32-bit browser running on a 64-bit operating system.
    Can you help?

Hi, well I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. We'll see what the problem may be. First to answer your question,
the OS means operating system. Which if you are using Windows, then your OS is Vista. It could be XP or the newest one
which is Windows7, Win7 for short. Now if someone is using a Mac, then that would be their OS.
Now your computer and all computers can install and run Flash Player. However there are a few things that can cause a problem, so I'll list a few.
The first thing and most important is that you must be the Administrator of your computer. If this is your computer and you set up the accounts, the first account set up would be the Administrator account. You can look at that as the "Boss"
Now some people will set up accounts for other people but they are not Administrator accounts, they are called User or Limited accounts. They cannot be "Boss":-) There are some other things, but I'm stating it this way, so you can better understand.
When you Install programs, like Flash Player, you have to use the Administrator account to do so.
Don't think you are the only one having problems. We'll find out what it is and fix it.
Since using the Administrator account is the most important, I want you to go down to where the clock it. With your mouse, right click over the time that is showing. Then when the small window opens, left click on Adjust Date/Time.
Then post back and tell me what you saw.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb

  • Installing Flash player in Vista 64

I could not get player 10 to install in Vista 64 despite
repeated attempts. It would fail to load a .dll to a specific
directory. After repeated attempts, I realized the directory was
never created by the installer. So, here's the deal: go to
C:/Windows/system32 and manually create the following new sub
directories: /Macromed and then in that directory, /Shockwave 10
    Your finished directory is
    C:/Windows/system32/Macromed/Shockwave 10
Once that is put in place, Player 10 installs in a few
    seconds.

Flash Player is a browser add-on, not an executable program.
Are you trying to open local SWF files?  If so, you need the standalone player (Projector) from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

  • Why am I having so much trouble installing Flash Player 17?

    Hello,
I have installed and updated Flash Player since 1999, but never with so much trouble as with the latest version- 17.
My pc runs Windows 7 64-bit with Internet Explorer 11. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps listed on the Adobe website with no luck.
I am logged in as administrator, but when I go to a website the permission message pops up at the bottom of the page, as normal after updating,
"This webpage wants to run the following add-on; ' Adobe Flash Player' from Adobe Systems Incorporated'.
Whether I click on Allow or click on the dropdown and click on Allow for all websites, does not matter. It will not work and the permission bar stays up.
    Can somebody please help??
    Thanks,
    Dake

Tried to play a game and was alerted that if I was receiving an error loading that I needed to update my Flasher Player.  When I tried to udate I received this message "NOTE:Newer version already installed".  Went into my control panel and uninstalled Flash Player and tried to reinstall but receive the same message.  Flash Player is not listed in program files in control panel.  I have a 32 bit system and use Vista.  What am I doing wrong?

Try running the uninstaller first: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
