Trouble installing HP Laserjet 4 in Windows 10

I had Windows 7, not windows 8.1.  Does that alter your view re compatibility with Windows 10?

I installed Windows 10 today after using Windows 7 successfully with my LaserJet4.  I couldn't get my printer to work.  After reading other posts on the HP Forum and beating on Microsoft to help me, I solved the problem.  Go to "settings."  Find the icon that includes printers.  Click on "devices and printers."  You will NOT see LaserJet 4 in the list of printers initially.  Click on "add printer."  You will eventually get to a message that says something like, "My printer isn't listed."  Click on that.  Eventually, you will have the opportunity to "insert printer manually" or something like that.  You will then have choices to make.   The key is in the port you choose.  (If you don't click open the part that asks the kind of port you want, you will not succeed.  Believe me, I tried it all, including Windows updates, etc.  I saw LaserJet4 in the list of HP printers and would click on it, only to get an error message when I tried to print the test page.)  What you have to find is the "virtual USB" port.  If you click on that, you will be able to get your printer to work with Windows 10.  Mine now works like a charm!

    Hey robr72339266,
With a single user license, you can install Acrobat on maximum two computers, say, your laptop at work and desktop at office.
But, you cannot use Acrobat on both the machines simultaneously.
You will first need to deactivate Acrobat from the old machine, then install and activate the software on the new OS with the same serial key.
Please Contact | Adobe to seek help on the same.

Try the following:  On the Windows 7 computer go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a new port, Local port, Next, \\xpcomputername\lj3015 (where you put in the actual share name of the computer and printer), OK, Windows Update (and wait for the list to repopulate), HP Laserjet 3015 PCL5,  Next, Next.

    hi,
If you have 7zip you can extract all the files from the fb_XXXX.exe, then run the installer directly. Odds on you have a corrupt fb file as all the adobe installers play nicely with windows 7.

  • Trouble installing DW CS3 on Windows Vista

Hi I really need some help. I'm about to lose it.
I bought DW CS3 directly from Adobe in June '07. I had installed it on my laptop running Win XP. It worked fine and I liked working with DW. My laptop died a couple months ago and I bought a brand new HP desktop. I installed DW CS3 seemingly without any problems. But ... when I go to open DW, ... nothing happens.  It doesnt matter where I try to open it from, the Start menu, or the program file in the directory where it was installed.  There were no errors or problems during any of the install attempts.  Its just when you click on the icon to open DW, it just doesnt do anything. Nothing. As if you didnt even click on it.
I have not been able to find any thread/discussion with this exact problem.  I've tried implementing solutions from other install problems posted, but nothing has worked. I tried selective startup. Tried uninstall/reinstall a couple times. Tried repairing the install.
    My specs:
    HP Pavilion a6750y
    AMD Athlon Phenom X4 9650
    8GB RAM
    750GB HD
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Service Pack 1
    64-bit Operating System
I'm not a computer expert of any sort, but I know enough to get by.
Can anyone please help? Thanks so much.

    Nadia,
Thanks for replying. I just checked out that tech note & tried the regedit thing, but no luck.  I seriously can't believe that this is so much trouble.
I also need to just say that I did call Adobe support and unfortunately for me, they need to charge me $40 to help me, because now CS4 is out, so they don't support CS3 for free anymore.  This is very very poor business practice on Adobe's part.  Most manufacturers of any product, not just software, will continue to support at least the version previous to their newest.
I am an amateur web designer and just like to play around.  I was proud of myself for spending $200 my last year of school (econ major, not IT), to get the educational version of what I thought was a top-notch web design software.  I cannot afford to pay $40 for help. And I definitely cannot afford whatever the price of CS4 is, since I am not a student anymore.  I really enjoyed using DW CS3 on my laptop.  Unfortunately as I said before, it is now dead, and apparently, so is my ability to use Dreamweaver.
Shame on you Adobe.  I will spread this message far and wide.
If anyone else has any possible solutions to what my problem is, I am willing to try anything.  Thanks Nadia & Murray for your suggestions.  I will stay tuned to this forum until I have a solution.

  • Trouble installing cs2 upgrade in Windows 7 64 bit

I have recently bought a new computer and I am transferring programs.  I have deactivated cs2 on my old computer.  I am trying to install it on my new computer with OS windows 7 64 bit.  The CS2 is an upgrade from adobe Photoshop 5.02.  When I try to install the cs2 upgrade it asks for validation of ownership of Photoshop 5.02.  It does not recognize the cd when I put it in the cd player.  I have not been able to install Photoshop 5.02 onto my new computer using the cd (even when I use the compatibility trouble shooter and change settings to xp service pack 2. I have transfered the 5.02 over to my new computer via USB and can even run it.  However, CS2 upgrade will not recognize 5.02 even when I browse to the program folder.  Any other thoughts or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Find the registry keys for the program on your old machine, export them to a file, import them on the new system. regedit is your friend. Should be in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe somewhere...

  • Trouble Installing SQLServer Express on Windows 2008

I am trying to install Sql Server Express 2008 and I've been having trouble doing this simple procedure.  My problem started because I need to install Sql Server Express 2008 on drive D of my Windows 2008 Server.  I just modified the path displayed
to the D: drive (as opposed to C:).  The rest of the path was untouched.  So it created this string: "D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\"  (omit the "" quotes).  Unfortunately, it did not go as planned.
The setup generated an error: "The INSTALLSHAREDDIR command line value was not specified.  This value must be specified when the INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR command line value is specified ".  So this simple task was starting to get unnecessarily
complicated.  I then specified the command line: "SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU /INSTALLSHAREDDIR="D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\".  This produced another error: "The timestamp marker on log files has not been set.  The
timestamp must be set prior to it being used  for the first time.".  Wow!  I'm stunned and perplexed as to the reason why I need to be made aware of this, or anybody.  Regardless, I proceeded to create a command line: "SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU
/INSTALLSHAREDDIR="D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\" /TIMESTAMP=”20140507_120600”.  Again, this generated an error pertaining to the timestamp.  How can I resolve this?

    Hi sreyes,
According to your description, indeed, this error will occurs if you select an install direction different from the default one (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server). I recommend you use the default path as shared feature directory. Or you can use the
following ways to install SQL server 2008 on another drive (D:\Microsoft SQL Server\).
    1.Run the setup, select all the features you want to install. DO NOT change the install folder, press next;
    2.When you see the screen displaying the configuration summary, check the config.ini path, then copy/paste the file on another drive/folder;
3.Edit this file to set correct values for INSTALLSHAREDDIR & INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR (you can set D:\Microsoft SQL Server and D:\Microsoft SQL Server (x86)).
    4.Run setup from the command line : SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe /q /action=Install /configurationfile=<Path to your custom .ini>

I am bothering to post just to report - in case useful to others - that I was able to get round the same problem as the original poster, like jsm02, by booting into "safe mode with networking".  Rebooting the machine and using the f8 key during the boot sequence, to select the alternate startup "safe mode with networking", seemed more straightforward than the instructions at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/restart-windows-modified-mode-windows.html, which looks like it would involve a certain amount of guessing which services should be disabled / enabled.
The complaints about Microsoft redistributables I got in the install-fail-report were as pasted in below, in case helpful to others seeing same. The report advised double-clicking various packages to retry those parts of the install - or downloading the latest same from Microsoft.  I would suggest checking Control Panel -> Programs and Features first, as you may simply find that you already have these C++ redistributables installed (as they were in my case).
And wouldn't it be nice if the Adobe Installer could fail more gracefully - or indeed not even fail at all! - if it finds required components are already installed.  For Adobe customers on slow broadband lines, being forced into a second download that takes circa 3 hours (for just one of the CC apps), because of an installer that can't handle items already being installed, is not a great experience - would hope Adobe can iron this out of the installation process.
Hope that this further detail is useful to others facing same problem.

  • Trouble installing Mac drivers on Windows Vista

I've just installed Windows Vista on my intel-based IMac. I'm at the final part where I'm supposed to install the Mac drivers on Vista by ejecting the Windows installation disk and inserting the Mac OS X installation disk. According to the Boot Camp Setup Assistant instructions, it should either auto-run on Vista or the 'setup.exe' application should be visible to click on. However, after inserting the Max OS X installation disk on Vista, the computer doesn't detect anything on the disk! It's as if it's empty but the 'properties' option shows that the installation disk is full! How should I resolve this problem? Can Vista actually read the files present in the Mac OS X installation disk in the first place?

Put the OS X installation disc in the SuperDrive after booting the iMac in Windows, right-click on the disc icon in My Computer, open it in explorer and then double-click on Setup.exe

  • Trouble installing Oracle Personal in Windows 7 64-bit environment

Hi, I just purchased Oracle Personal Edition and it does not install.
    Details:
    Hardware: Dell laptop, purchased 6/2011
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7-2820QM 2.30 GHz, 8 processors
    RAM: 8GB real, 16GB virtual
Hard drive available space: 119 GB on C: drive, 505 GB on D: drive
Product purchased: Oracle Personal Edition, 11.2.0.1.0 for Windows x64 (64-bit)
I originally had an instance of Oracle XE on this machine. I have uninstalled it with Windows Uninstall and followed that up with the following actions in Regedit:
    Deleted the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE key.
    Deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Ora*
    Removed directories c:\Oraclexe and c:\Program Files\Oracle
    Rebooted.
I downloaded the two Oracle server files from the cloud, extracted the zipped directories, copied "2 of 2"'s contents to the "1 of 2"'s directory, and ran setup.exe
Oracle Installer started up. The first screen asked for my email address and whether I wanted to receive Oracle propaganda by email (no).
The second screen, Installation Option, asked if I wanted to 1: create and configure a database; 2: install database software only; or 3: upgrade an existing database. I chose option 1.
The third screen, System Class, asked if I wanted a Desktop Class database or Server Class database. I chose Desktop Class.
I clicked Next and Oracle Installer shut down without a warning message.
Does anybody have an idea of how I can install this software?

Yes, the purpose of this license was just to use Oracle for my own personal use. Downloading a copy of Enterprise Edition from OTN won't solve the problem; it's the same file as the Personal Edition file, and that file doesn't work on my computer. The installer prompts for the type of installation (Personal, Standard, Enterprise) around step 4 or 5 of the install, and I never made it past step 3. The problem is that the installer crashes without leaving any error message, which means I can't fix the problem. I have no way of knowing that the installer couldn't handle my computer configuration, but I do know that my computer exceeds the minimum requirements for an install. Someone at Oracle should consider it a BUG that the installer shuts down without any indication of the reason for the shutdown. I requested a refund not because the product has a bug, but because the installer didn't work. A product that doesn't install is a product that hasn't been delivered to the customer. This is a very, very basic problem that Oracle must fix.

  • Trouble installing Boot Camp and Windows 8

I'm attempting to install Boot Camp for the first time using OS X 10.10.1 / Boot Camp 5.1.2. When I conduct the install, I get a message stating that this machine (Macbook Air, Late 2010) can only install Windows 7.
    Apple's Documentation states the following:
The Windows ISO image or DVD must be of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8.1, or Windows 8.1 Pro.
I did attempt to install W8, but was asked to provide W7 installation media. Based on the documentation I should be able to install Windows 8. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

You cannot install Win 8 on that model. See the following: Boot Camp- System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support.

  • Trouble installing bootcamp drivers in Windows XP

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro and I installed Windows XP Professional SP3 on my Mac just fine but according to the Bootcamp Assistant Guide, it says while in Windows insert your Mac OS X disc to install bootcamp driver by selecting setup.exe from the bootcamp directory.  First, I don't see a bootcamp directory but I did do a search and a file called setup.exe did appear. However, it then ask how I want to open the file and give option such as Internet Explorer, etc. Then I realized that although I have a gateway modem/wireless router at home that my Macbook Pro can be wire connected to and I'm alway connected to wirelessly when I'm in the Mac OS X, when I'm in the Windows XP, it doesn't recognize that I'm connect to a modem or that my Macbook Pro has internet connection in WIndows XP.  As soon as I restart under MAC OSX everything comes back and I can either be connected wired or wireless.
So bascially I have a few issues going on. First clarity on how to get to the setup.exe from the bootcamp directory while in Windows XP and figuring out how to connect my current gateway modem/wireless router to my Macbook Pro while I'm in Windows XP on it.
Please can anyone help me out?
    Sonya

    Hi Wilde,
Apple recommends to only use the BootCamp Drivers they provide.
However you can tryout these Nvidia driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforcenotebook_winxp_185.85whql.html
Make sure to make a backup of your Windows before installing them.
Or at least make a System Restore Point.
Some people use DriverSweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ to remove the 'old' drivers prior to installing the new ones.
    Take care
