Trouble installing mac OS X 10.8.3

I am having trouble installing mac OS X 10.8.3. I am able to install up to 50% then it tells me close safari. Once I have done so and hit retry, it comes up with the same message even thought the program is closed. it will not let me install. What should I do?

  • Trouble installing Mac drivers on Windows Vista

I've just installed Windows Vista on my intel-based IMac. I'm at the final part where I'm supposed to install the Mac drivers on Vista by ejecting the Windows installation disk and inserting the Mac OS X installation disk. According to the Boot Camp Setup Assistant instructions, it should either auto-run on Vista or the 'setup.exe' application should be visible to click on. However, after inserting the Max OS X installation disk on Vista, the computer doesn't detect anything on the disk! It's as if it's empty but the 'properties' option shows that the installation disk is full! How should I resolve this problem? Can Vista actually read the files present in the Mac OS X installation disk in the first place?

Put the OS X installation disc in the SuperDrive after booting the iMac in Windows, right-click on the disc icon in My Computer, open it in explorer and then double-click on Setup.exe

  • Trouble installing Mac OS X 10.3

hi, im having trouble trying to install os x 10.3 on my emac. the trouble is it is saying i can install because of no previous os found. there are 3 os x cd's. cd 1 says its an upgrade/install cd, while disc 2 and disc 3 says install. is there any way around this? what can i do? thanks

In order to use an upgrade disc you must first install the previous version of OS X which would be 10.2.x. If you have your Jaguar installer disc then you can perform an Erase and Install of Jaguar after which you can upgrade to 10.3 with your upgrade disc.

  • Having trouble installing Mac OS X 10.5.3

I have just downloaded MAC OS X 10.5.3, and when I restart the computer so the software will install, it just stops anf gets stuck on "Configuring Software".
I originally thought that it might just take a little longer then usual but the installation didn't change for over 12hrs. I then rebooted the computer and tried to install again but once again it stops at the same bit.
    Has anyone got any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple forums:
Did you first run DU and repair HD and permissions?
If so, reboot into the safe mode but do not log in, just hit reboot after you get to the login screen, then try the update again.

  • HELP!  Trouble installing Mac OS X "Tiger" 10.4

    Please HELP!
Trying to install new OS "Tiger" but every time I put it in the Installer, it runs for a few seconds, and then pops out again. No screen pops up with install icons.
Disc looks fine - no scratches.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks - Heidi

    Hi Kappy -
My sister gave me this computer, so I called her, she said Adobe is a CD.
I called Apple store and asked if they had the SuperDrive - only problem my OS needs to be 10.2.3, and mine is only 10.2.
So now what do I do? My last question (when I started this Mac adventure - you helped me) so I got everything, AirPort base station, AirPort card, and this Tiger OS. I didn't think there would be any problems. I just saw tonight that at the end of that string of questions someone chimed in and offered this info about this very potential problem - http://www.oreillynet.com/mac/blog/2005/05/thecats_mustachesinstalling.html
Is this a big waste of time and $? I don't have another Mac available, so it seems I need an external DVD drive. From what I've read it sounds like this may not create a stable OS?
So what is my best option? Do you know what most people have had success with?
    Thanks, I appreciate your help!

  • New internal hard drive in my imac - troubles installing Mac OS

I just had to replace my imac's internal drive because it died. I bought an 500gb Western Digital Caviar Blue OEM WD5000AAKS. I installed it just fine, and I reformatted it by going to utilities and erasing the drive and setting it to mac os extended journaled. After reformatting it the computer recognized the drive.
So now when I go to install the mac OS (I can't remember what vers. it is but I know it's at least 10.4) it starts the installation process but it is very sluggish. The first time, after about 20 min., it told me to retry the installation because something had gone wrong. I retried it, but it ran across another error and couldn't complete the installation. This time it gave me the option to view and save a log of the error. I looked at it but it meant nothing to me because I'm not familiar with the techie stuff.
One thing that i can point to is that the new hard drive is 300mbps (or 3) and my old one was 150 (1.5). I was reading about the jumper settings and i saw that I'm supposed to set my new HD's jumper a certain way, but I don't even know what the jumper is. Though i believe it is that series of 8 pins on the side of the new hard drive. Anyway, what am i supposed to do with those pins?
any help at all would be amazing

    From accelerateyourmac:
Reader Comments: Computer: iMac G5 running OS X 10.5.2+
    Replacement HD: WD5000AAKS
A week and a half ago I replaced the dying 160 GB HD that came with my iMac G5 (non-iSight) with a new Western Digital 500 GB WD5000AAKS, about $105 from Newegg. The drive is OEM and came with absolutely nothing but the drive itself, but mounting hardware and cables from the Mac worked perfectly, and HD replacement instructions on Apple website had beautifully detailed photos and clear instructions.+
+In short order I booted from the Leopard install disk, formatted (erased) the new drive, which was immediately recognized, and installed the OS. Leopard proved its worth, as it was very easy to restore the system from Time Machine. Of course, it restored the OS files that had been corrupted by the old HD, so I had to reinstall the OS, archiving the system settings so everything worked the way I wanted it to.+
+New drive is quieter, faster, and cooler -- fan never runs, where it ran constantly with the old drive, perhaps a symptom of its impending demise. Despite constant heavy use since installation, I've encountered no compatibility problems attributable to the HD. And with over 3X the capacity of the original drive, and at this bargain price, the new drive is hard to beat.
I wish I could say the same!!! This guy has the same computer as I do and bought tthe same hard drive. His review is a major reason why I chose the HD that I did.

  • Trouble Installing Mac OSX 10.4 over 10.3.9 from a DVD

Hey guys, I just wanted to thank you in advance for any help or advice offered as pertains to my current problem.
I recently purchased a Mac OS X 10.4 install/upgrade DVD on eBay for use with my current iBook G4, on which I'm running OS X 10.3.9, and has a 800 MHz PowerPC G4 and 640 MB DDR SDRAM, 128 pre-installed, 512 user-installed, and the system runs perfectly for everything that I need to do, except many programs, including the newer versions of iTunes which I need to sync with my iPod, require OS X 10.4.
Whenever I put the DVD in the computer and run the installation file (and it tells me to restart the system to begin installation), it restarts and takes me directly to Open FIrmware and gives me the following error message:
    "invalid memory access at % SRR0 : 0560b7d8 % SRR1 : 00003030
    Apple PowerBook6, 3 4.7.7f0 BootROM built on 10/21/03"
it gives me the option to "boot-mac" or "shut-down"
I've attempted to use the option key to boot into the CD, but when I choose to boot into the CD, it does the same exact thing.
Now, I had my suspicions that the disk may be a fake, but I attempted to run it on my brothers identical iBook G4, and it boots fine without ever ending up at Open Firmware.
Now, I've attempted to find a firmware upgrade or update for my current G4 firmware, but I cannot locate any.
All DVD's work in the drive when the system is booted, and runs and burns CD's equally well.
IF anybody has any type of solution or ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. I am posting this is both the iBook G4 forums and the OS 10.4 Installation forum, and I am not sure which is the correct one.

Upgrade DVDs which shipped with Macs are often specific to that model and unusable in other Mac models.
You should buy a retail version of OS 10.4.

  • Troubles Installing MAc OS X

Hello everybody, I already reformat my Imac and now i am trying to reinstall with the CD MAC OS X, it seems work, but at the 34% appears a message: " The disc is dirty, clean it and try again" I did it many many times, but is still not working.
After that, I have omitted this message and I have continue with the installation, but after a while appears another message: "Setup could not validate the contents of the package [HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers]. Contact the software manufacturer".
    Some idea?? I am desperated!
    Thanks

Call AppleCare tell them you need a set of original Install DVDs as yours are damaged. You may have to pay because they're at least 4 years old however the charge should be nominal. You will not be charged for the call though. It's possible they will send them to you for free but there is no way for us to tell, you have to explain the situation and then it's up to Apple how they want to handle it. You can reach AppleCare by using AppleCare Contact Info.

  • Trouble installing mac drivers from boot camp

I ran boot camp and installed windows using an original CD and 2 things go wrong. I 1st cant get onto the internet, and 2nd i can't make it all the way through the list of drivers i get past the graphics card driver and a fatal error occurs everytime any help with either problem would be great

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows XP.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & XP, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
The Forum is at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology.

  • Installing MAC  OS 10.4

I had to get a new hard drive but now I am having trouble installing MAC OS. I have the CD from my desk top ( I cannot find the ones that came with the lap top--4 years ago). I started the machine and held down the "C" but I get a screen full of what looks like error massages. The top line says "unable to find driver this platform powerbook6.X (5 I think) any way it will not boot up.
If I have to have the CDs from the lap top what can I do if I can't find them? THANKS

    Hey amNM,
    Ditto
I have the CD from my desk top
Yes that's probably a machine specific disk just for the desktop or at least that family and it won't work on your iBook.
If I have to have the CDs from the lap top what can I do if I can't find them?
To be completely safe you'll have to find a retail Tiger installer, black with silver lettering.

  • IMac won't install MAC OS X

    Hey,
I'm having trouble installing MAC OS X. I have been a long time MAC user, having purchased an ibook G4, a macbook, and just recently purchased an iMac G5 from a friend. The obvious problem is that my friend didn't have any MAC OS X cds although he has Mac OS X 10.5.6 installed. The operating system works fine, I just want to reinstall mac os x to get rid of all of his information and start a new.
The problem I'm having is that when I go to install my MAC OS X cds, (I have both a purchased leopard CD, and the mac os x versions that came with the iBook and Macbook) I get the grey/white apple screen, the loading circle AND.....that's it. I have tried pushing C when loading, option and selecting the recognized disk, but nothing happens. Any ideas?

    Welcome To  Discussions SYRUM!
"...I have both a purchased leopard CD,..."
Examine the disc very carefully, to be sure it looks exactly like THIS.
Nowhere, should Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." be printed on it.
Nor should it be a burned copy.

  • Perl/CPAN: Installing Mac::AppleScript

I'm having trouble installing Mac::AppleScript, which is a prerequisite for Mac::AppleScript::Glue, which is a prerequisite for the iTunes Update plugin for my SqueezeBox.
I think this problem here is the culprit:
    ~/.cpan/build/Mac-AppleScript-0.04-ybvZch $ make
    rm -f blib/arch/auto/Mac/AppleScript/AppleScript.bundle
    LDRUNPATH="" env MACOSXDEPLOYMENTTARGET=10.3 cc -bundle -undefined dynamic_lookup -L/usr/local/lib AppleScript.o -framework AppleScriptKit -framework Carbon -o blib/arch/auto/Mac/AppleScript/AppleScript.bundle
/usr/bin/ld: /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/WebKit load command 20 unknown cmd field
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    Any ideas?
This Mac Mini came with 10.4 and I've applied the usual software upgrades so I'm on 10.4.11 right now.

    Gday All,
I just gave it a try and it worked fine. So to answer my own question you can install Perl CPAN modules in the 'standard' way.
