Trouble installing mavericks: MacMini into a loop

Hi to everybody. When installing IOS Mavericks, the message "not enough disk space, cannot constinue installation" (it's a real novice mistake for my part, I know...). And now, every time I turn on my MacMini, a loop starts with the install application, and I cannot neither exit the installation app nor enter my hard disk to free some space and let installation begins. I have tried to turn on the computer in safe mode, with an usb, have tried to install Mavericks from a usb, have tried to delete a couple of files to free some space using Terminal, or erase and format the hard disk assuming that I'll loose every file I have... and nothing works. Moreover, "su" and "sudo" terminal commands aparently have dissapeared...
What can I do to solve it?
Thanks in advance.

What backups do you have?

having trouble installing mavericks due to damage disk.

Same here. I tried loading Mavericks on an early 2008 iMac. Apple Care says the failure is due to a bad hard drive. Even though I was not experienceing any problems prior to installing Mavericks. I’m skeptical. I must now take the iMac to Apple for repair.

  • Trouble installing Mavericks over Lion on iMac 12,2; hangs.

    Hi Folks,
iMac 12,2 16 Gigs RAM, i7  4-core 3.4 GHz 1-TB HD for data, 1-250 Gig SSD for systems - running Snow Leopard on one partition and Lion on the other. (Full hardware description at bottom.)
Purchased new in New Zealand about 14 months ago from Apple authorized reseller; no AppleCare. Not registered with Apple. No seerrious problems since, until this.
Ethernet lan connection to Airport and then ISP's modem/router (Telecom New Zealand, . Fixed IP. No problems there, I think.
Lots of USB stuff plugged in during install, but that shouldn't matter.
Attempt to install Mavericks on Lion partition while booted in Lion partition failed.
Attempt to install Mavericks on Lion partition while booted in Snow Leoepard partition failed.
(Download to Snow seemed to work fine. Installer ran, finished in 20 minutes instead of 35, but when I restarted the computer the startup hung. Shutdown, restart, hangs. Every time.)
Both installations failed with this hang. Restarts done with verbose logging on show the following, repeating ad infinitum (I stopped counting after it got over 5,100 lines -- no I didn't watch 5,000 lines scroll, I went away for a snooze):
invalid sandbox profiile for pid <number> (invalid regex)
Nothing here in the forums, or on the InterWebs about this error or much about a hanging install (which has been identified as one of Mavericks' problems) except to say wait forever (I  think 5,000 lines of verbose logging is forever) or try the install again. I have tried the install again; it hangs at the same point every time.
There is some stuff on the hacker sites about sandbox and this error, but only for earlier OS versions. The fix for them was to replace the sandbox.kext. I'm going to boot into root in Snow Leopard partition so I can do things to the Lion partition, and change that kextfile?! Yeah, Riiiggghhhhttt. NOT.
I suppose I could try the install with all USB stuff disconnected -- but I don't believe that's it.
I suppose the fact that the Lion might not have had the latest software updates to it before I tried to install Mavericks might have something to do with it. I don't believe that's it (certainly is shouldn't be).
Final recourse might have to be wiping the Lion partition (full erase and clean install) (it doesn't have any critical data saved on it; I do all my work in Snow on the other partition, the Lion is for experimenting).
    Anyone have any ideas?
    TIA and cheers,
    M<

Sorry, bad news for you, depending on your setup.
The answer (provided by an Apple higher-level tech for which I paid -- no Applecare) was that they don't have a clue, but a clean install works.
    Yeah, Thaaannnnnnnkkkksss. Knew that.
Clean install (almost) always works (worked) for 25 years.
You don't say if your kit has everything on one partition, or there are more than one.
If you have a big hard disk that's not full, has lots of room, but only one partition, with 10.8 you can dynamically create a new partition without losing data. I don't have the details of the process handy, but it's pretty straightforward.
Then, with the Mavericks installer on the 10.8 partition, and booted to that partition, you can install Mavericks on the other partition (with administrator account). You could use the migration assistant (or whatever) to bring your data over from the 10.8 partition to the Mavericks one. However ...
You might also want, if your hard disk isn't huge, and you don't have two drives of whatever type in the machine, to make the new partition just big enough for the OS and apps, and keep the data on the 10.8 partition.
You can tell the Mavericks instance to use the other partition as your Home directory, instead of the Home directory on the Mavericks drive.
If you have your OS and data on the same partition, and you don't have enough room on your disk(s) for the above procedures, then your best solution would likely be make a Carbon Copy Clone of the drive, wipe it completely, and install Mavericks from some external source other than another partition with another OS, and migrate your data back.
There is stuff on the Web about making a bootable Mavericks install disk on a flash memory stick.
But whichever way you end up doing it, you will have to boot into a clean OS on a different partition or disk from the target Mavericks install partition or disk.
Last caveat: it may be difficult, but not impossible, to maintain your, or multiple users', identity and accounts and where they point, as well as your online IDs.
Hope that helps a bit. Don't give up, but do take precautions (a CCC backup or a Tiime Machine is always wise anyway) and write everything down as you go.
FWIW, I'm not using the Mavericks partition for anything, not even experimentation. I'm still using my Snow Leopard, because it works fine (finally) and is the only way to run Eudora. Until, that is, I solve the problem of running 10.6.8 server in a virtual machine in the Mavericks partition so I can run Eudora under Steve's nose with impunity, and so seamlessly it seems to be running under Mavericks, with full integration (through Parallels).
    Cheers from the Antipodes,

  • Having trouble installing mavericks on a second partitiion

I have an older 2009 MBP that has been running Mavericks for a while now. I erased the drive and loaded Leopard to run a few programs. I created a partition for Mavericks and for Yosemite. I can't seem to get Mavericks to open on the second partition to install. The error I get its , "not supported by this architecture.
Am I doing something wrong? I thought you could load a boot drive by pressing command R when starting up the Mac.

When you formatted the hard drive, were you sure to use HFS+ GUID?  Apple Partition Map will not work, neither with NTFS, FAT32, or ExFAT.
Note Mac Pro is a desktop tower, whereas MacBook Pro is a notebook.

  • Having trouble installing Radeon 7500 into K7T266 Pro

I am having all sorts of problems switching from my nVidia TNT 2 (MaxiGamer Cougar) video card to my new Radeon 7500.  I am running an AMD Athlon 1400 with 512 MB DDR RAM.
    I have the K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) chipset.
Can anyone think of what I am missing here.  I think I have all the updates AGP drivers I need but I am not sure.  I get lock ups prior to windows starting everytime. Even in safe mode.
    Grrrr.

I ended having to format my c drive.  Windows began doing some really funny things and then never started again with old or new video cards.  I have re-installed windows but now sometimes my monitor stays blank when I start the computer.  It is supposed to wake itself up but when it does, it has no picture.  To solve this I shut down and flick the switch on the back and discharge everything.  It then works again for another few times.  Do you think this may be a problem with my power supply?  I have an Enermax 350W.  I bought it when I built the computer and figured it would have plenty of juice.
    Thanks for you help

  • Anyone having trouble installing mavericks?

When I click Install App on the app store site, nothing happens.

I installed it successfully on two MacBook Pros but when I try it on my iMac a little progress wheel spins for about a second but no download starts. I've cleared the cache on Safari, run disk repair to repair permissions, and restarted but no luck. I got the wheel to sping for about 4 seconds once but still not download.
i'm going to try logging out of the app store and back in to see if that helps.

"Yesterday I couldn't update the maps on my Garmin because it said the OS I had wouldn't work"
What OS will your Garmin work with? Funny there was someone else that did that and upgraded to Yosemite and regretted it.
I'd say Lion if your Garmin is compatible.
Both Lion and Mountain Lion are downloadable from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion

The OSs will get more resource hungry the higher you go.

  • Trouble viewing PDFs after installing Mavericks

Prior to installing Marvericks, I had no trouble viewing the PDFs on this site:
    http://dhrd.hawaii.gov/state-hr-professionals/class-and-comp/
Scroll to bottom and click on Class Specifications and Minimum Qualfiication Requirements.
    An excel spreadsheet is downloaded.
Open the spreadsheet and click on the link for any PDF.
It seems that after installing Mavericks, the documents open but the text is unreadable.
I tried removing the PDF viewer internet plug-ins from the library as one member had recommended for a similar issue, but that didn't work for me.
Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    deleted.
I just get the giberish when I open your PDF reference.

Im having trouble importing mov files into premiere pro on creative cloud, original problem was no video and only audio when I imported mov file, so I have installed quicktime after reading that may solve the problem, but now an error message reads codec missing or unavailable, any help would be appreciated

MOV is a wrapper... what is inside the wrapper?
Codec & Format information, with 2 links inside to read
-read both links in reply #1 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1270588
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

  • Having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks

I am having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks.
I know that iMovie HD works with Mavericks because we are using it on other Macs successfully.   However, those machines were upgraded starting with OS 10.6.   In other words, iMovie HD was installed on these Macs when the Macs had Snow Leopard.
When I use the iLife 06 disc, I am presented with “You can't open the application “iLife 06” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
I understand that iMovie HD  is universal, not PowerPC.  How can I get past this to install iMovie HD.
    Thanks

    OK, I made some progress.
I used Pacifist (Shareware) to open the iMovie HD 6 install packages from the iLife '06 installer DVD (iMovie.pkg and iMovieThemes_Tiger.pkg) and let Pacifist install them to the right places.
But doesn't iMovie HD 6 require QuickTime 7 to work ?

After installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro and my MacMini can't shut down, only a grey screen and finish. Must be killed by the power button. Why?

same here...  sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't!!
