Trouble installing new 5G ipod in iTunes 7.0

I'll make this simple: Both Windows XP and iTunes 7 cannot recognize my BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX 5G iPod in order to install its software, and the relevant support articles don't help any.
Perhaps one snafu might come from that I already have a 3G iPod configured to this computer, and that my computer has no idea what to do when it sees another iPod coming over the horizon.
Anyway, I am really bothered by all of this. I found a 2006-6-28 iPod Software Update way back in the Apple archive, but when attempting to install the 5G software though that I was smacked with qhat amounted to iTunes 7 propoganda, that I needed to use that program to update my iPod.
ARGH! I have been pulling my hair out in clumps (and I'm only 17) over all of this! Can someone help me out here?
30GB iPod video (5G) + iTunes 7.0.2   Windows XP

I downloaded the latest iTunes software off the site and re-installed it that way, so I'm sure I've been running 7.0.2.16 for some time now. Sorry if I wasn't being specific enough with my first post.
But yes, even with a repair and a re-installation, the iPod is still not being recognized by the software. Would it help if I said that my computer recognizes the iPod first and tries to treat it like a normal USB device when it tries to find drivers for it?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Very new to IPOD and iTunes can I listen to a sample of the song.........

    Howdy all.
Very new to IPOD and iTunes but can I listen to a sample of any song before I purchase? If not then I can't see myself buying much.
    Thankyou.

Yes you can, and apple strongly recommends people do this before buying a song, album, video ect ect
For a song, video, or game you just double click the songs name to preview it.

  • Installed new hard drive now iTunes will not load my purchases on my iPod

I installed a new hard drive on my computer and successfully transferred all my files to the new hard drive. The first time I tried to sync my iPod a message appeared that my iPod would have to be reformatted to operate with this version of Windows.
Now, iTunes recognizes my iPod but during the update an error message displayed indicating my iTunes purchases were prohibited from being loaded on my iPod and removed the purchases I originally had on my iPod.
How do I get iTunes to include my purchases when syncing my iPod?

Thank you Patrick. You solved my problem. Just checked it out and I now have my purchases on my iPod. Only annoying thing was I had to authenticate my computer a couple of times.

Do not make your Mac bite off more than it can chew: do one update at a time. Some general guidelines on updating:
There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac, or even re-installing them, will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html
And for Intel Macs: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eintel.html
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta. If Safari 3.1.2 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 3.0.4 (or worse still, version 2) when running 10.4.11 or 10.5 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.1.1 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, and may entail you having to reinstall an earlier operating system.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • Install game on Ipod from itunes

    Hi
I download from Itunes Store the game "Iquiz" and i want to install it on my Ipod nano 8Gb.
After the download i can see the game in library under "Application" but when i star syncronize the game was not install on Ipod.
I tryed to re-download many times, but itunes not install the game...
How can i do to install the game ?

    Hey there,
It sounds like the game you purchased is not compatible with your iPod model. To check if it is, plug your nano into your computer, and head over to the Games tab. If the game does not show up or is not listed anywhere, then the game is not compatible. Hope this helps.

  • Installing New version QuickTime and ITunes

I have exhausted all the standard installation help. Every time I try to install the latest version I get the following: Cannot open HKEYLOCALMACHINE|Software|Classes|QuickTime.QuickTime|CLSID
    Verify you have access
I assume this is a registry problem - I am logged on as administrator and have run a registry cleanup programme. Any suggestions?

as installation begins it starts running the QuickTime install and says "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed". Funny thing is....it won't let me uninstall QuickTime because it gives me the same error as mentioned before
Okay. Let's try removing your existing QuickTime by other means than the "Uninstall a program" control panel.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly now?

  • 80GB older IPOD and new 160GB IPOD multiple iTunes - how to consolidate

I purchased an 80GB a year ago and created playlists etc. Now I purchased a new 160GB and created a new iTunes file but I would like to consolidate the music files into one location. Maybe syncing two different IPOD's from the same iTunes. If I sync the old IPOD, to the new file, it will erase all existing files and playlists. I would also like to save on the disk space. How can I accomplish this without spending all day?

Never giving up and never letting the lack of a manual defeat me....  with a little luck and persistent trial and error I finally figured it out.  And no, it wasn't memory, because honestly I can't recall from years ago how I had put that transmitter in pairing mode.
And for those of you who cherish outdated technology or may come across one....  The blue LED window on the side of the transmitter is also a pushbutton.  With the iPod paused, press and hold the LED button immediately after power up, and the transmitter goes into pairing mode.
Now time to go enjoy my music with my new bluetooth headset
    cheers,

  • Trouble installing new video card

I have a HP Pavilion a6720y Desktop which operates with Windows Vista 64-bit, and I had uninstalled the drivers on my current video card and powered down and opened up my computer, however I could not find a graphics card anywhere in my computer, the PCI slot was empty. So I put in the new card and when I tried turning on the computer again the monitor would not display anything as if the computer were off, when it was clearly on. Can anyone tell me what to do and where exactly the old video card is so I can remove it, If I can remove it.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01643511&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
There is no add-on video card (one you can remove).
The video on your PC is a GPU chip integrated onto the motherboard.
You may have to connect the monitor cable back to the onboard (old) video input, and go into the BIOS, and look for a setting to either disable the onboard video, or enable the PCIe/PCI video, or set it as the primary video controller.
I don't have your model PC, so I don't know what BIOS settings it has.
Not all PC's automatically disable the onboard video chip when an add on video card is installed.
If there are no video settings then one of two things is possible:
    1. You inadvertently hooked the monitor back up to the old video port (I've done that before).
    2. Your video card is defective or incompatible with your PC (may draw too much power, or be too high a PCIe version like 2.1).
