Trouble installing OS X 10.4 Tiger on new Mac Pro
I just got my new Mac Pro, of course it has Leopard installed. However, I have programs that are not yet updated from 10.4. I have a family license CD with Tiger, and I tried to install it into another partition or another hard drive in this computer, but I get a screen that says it cannot be installed in my computer. I don't understand. Any advice?

Operating systems are hardware specific. You can't install a 64-bit windows if the hardware and cpu doesn't support it, you cannot or should not install or upgrade 64-bit over 32-bit.
XP has to be installed ahead of Vista if you want both, not the other way around.
Some versions of Vista support only one physical cpu, or limit you to how much memory can be addressed and limited also by BIOS and memory controllers.
I wish Apple had a retail Intel version of Tiger but they don't, and the last DVD was 10.4.6 which predates the earliest OS that the Mac Pro can boot from and use. So double whammy there. And that is if you have the latest and not some 10.4.3 or original.
Given some of the installer glitches with 10.5.0 I hope we see 5.3/5.6 AND a 10.5.9 DVD down the road.

How do I take ownership of a hard drive build in windows but installed as an additional disk in my new Mac Pro?
I bought a Mac and have various HDDs, some Portable some SATA, I can right to them and dont seem to be able to take ownership of them, is this to do with the format or Security seting I can't find?
Any help would be great; thanks.
StephenThanks Kaz-K, this was what I assumed it to be. I have started to move the stuf over to a 4GB internal drive, once done and verified, I will reformat the drive and move it back, blooming nusience.
Cheers.

I just purchased a new MacPro 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor to replace my existing 2006 MacPro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon because it cannot be undated with the new Lion operating system.
My question is what is the safest way to transfer all my files to the new computer. 1) simply install my existing 2TB HD into the new Mac Pro, set it as the startup drive, and update its10.7 operating system or 2) or use the migration program.
I'm concerned that simply installing the existing 2TB HD, I may have issues with it not recognising some infromation written for the old 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon.your new system runs 10.6.8 just fine as has been said and stated many times.
I would clone it first.
I would even clone the original system it has.
And if you have or want to use Lion and then Mountain Lion, fine - I would still keep backups of every OS.
I am not a fan of putting the OS and Apps plus all the data all on one drive. I like to keep them separate.
Whatever OS, rerun the last combo update is all and any other updates.
And by "new Lion" I assume you don't mean 10.7 but "Moutain" 10.8. Part of me says keep Lion and SL around, and test and try out ML with your apps and other hardware you may have. After too many years, waiting for 10.8.1 - and give everyone time to update their apps and retest. -
How to install OS X Tiger on new Mac Pro
Does anyone why you can´t install OS X Tiger on the new Mac Pro? I bought it recently and it came with Leopard of course but I really need to run Tiger because of many of my plug-ins for Protools costs a fourtune to upgrade...
Is it possible to do it? Workaround anybody..?Is the hardware in the mac pro all that different than to the one shipped with Tiger???
I don't know all the differences, but iirc, the Graphics card is a big diff.
I have Tiger discs for a mac mini shipped just before 2008, would that work you think?
Can only guess, but no, I don't think it would, all Tiger disks for IntelMacs are Machine specific.
Sorry, can't help with the links, I've just read about attempts & the difficulties. -
Installing an AirPort Extreme Card in a new Mac Pro 3
I am a brand new Mac convert. I just purchased a new Mac Pro 3.QX and have to install an Airport Extreme Card. I'll be damned if I can find out where it should be installed...
Ok, so this is pretty hard to explain without pictures but lets go through it step by step.
Before you ever handle the inside of your computer first make sure the computer is off and has had sufficient time to cool off. Also make sure that you have already discharged any static from your body. In addition make sure all cords are unplugged from the computer and you use all proper safety equipment.
-Lay the computer on it's side and take off the side panel.
-Connect the airport antenna wires to the antenna connectors on the card. (Make sure you connect the wires labeled "1" and "3", the other should be taped to the side.)
-Insert the card into the connector on the logic board at a slightly upward angle and then when it's in, lower the screw end of the card down.
-Install the two airport extreme card screws, replace the side of your computer, and you're done. -

Should I install old software in my new Mac Pro, then upgrade?
I'm trying to transfer documents and apps from my PowerBook G4 to my new Mac Pro. I used Migration Assistant but it transferred only some files, no applications, no settings, even though I checked all those boxes. I've given up on MA. But here's the question: I have Office 2004, which I'd like to install so I can have Word on my Mac Pro, and then I would upgrade after installation. I've heard that pre-intel software can really slow down your intel computer. But what about starting with that software and then upgrading, so I don't have to pay for an entirely new MS Office? Same with Final Cut Studio. Any ideas about this would be appreciated!

MS Office 2008 is an upgrade, not an update. It does not replace Office 2004. It is a separate installation. It is like upgrading from Tiger to Leopard except 2008 does not replace 2004 as Leopard replaces Tiger. You purchase the entire 2008 installation like purchasing the Leopard upgrade, but can have 2004 and 2008 running on the same machine without partitioning. I have both installed on my iMac.

As far as I know, there is no discounted upgrade price from Office 2004 to 2008. I could not find it on their website anyway. I think to get Office 2008 you need to buy the Office 2008 installation disk.
I think (might be just me) Office 2004 running in Rosetta is slightly faster than the 2008 version. All the applications in 2004 launch faster. In Excel 2008, entries into cells are delayed by a fraction of a second but 2004 has instantaneous entry (perhaps MS in their infinite wisdom thinks the delay is a feature).
I am gradually changing over to 2008 only because it needs to be compatible with other computers in my office. If it weren’t for that, I would have stayed with Office 2004. Anyway, if you are going to buy Office 2008, you can install it and run it side by side with 2004 to see for yourself.
I’ve also seen posts here about MS Office 2008 having problems with the Spaces application of Leopard. If you use the Office Toolbox (formatting palette) it has bizarre behavior when using Spaces. -
I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc. When I get the the choice of partitions to install Windows 8.1 on the Windows installer says that the Bootcamp partition is not valid.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.

Please Help !
I bought Logic studio, with logic pro 9.0.0 last year, worked perfectly on my macbook pro.
Just got a new mac pro, with macos 10.7 Lion.. I install the software, serial works,
then I update the software, because 9.0.0 can't open in os 10.7, and after accepting my serial,
it asks me for an "original serial" that I have no idea about..
sry for the english..
Please HELP, I cant survive without logic more than an hour !I think this is a known problem with Lion and some installs of Logic, I've seen it mentioned before.

A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up
Try to run w/o externals. MyBook included.
Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current. Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old. Might want ATI 5870 or 5770. -

Installing CS5.5 on my new mac pro - what to do?
Over the years I've purchased CS3 (boxed), CS 5 Design Premium (boxed), and CS 5.5 Design Premium (downloaded upgrade). I am ready to install 5.5 on my new mac pro. Questions:
I had once copied some CS 5.5 dmg files to my backup drive but they appear to be only pdfs about installing, etc., not applications...so,
Do I need to install my boxed CS5 first or is my 5.5 the complete set even though purchased as an 'upgrade'? (I see there are complete, separate CS5 and CS5.5 folders on my old mac)
With the above info in mind, I have to re-download CS5.5 from Adobe, right? Thanks!Direct Download Links for Adobe Software
Simply install CS5.5 right away and it will ask for the previous serials for verification.
