Trouble Installing OS X on [new] HD Seagate Momentus XT

I replaced the factory hd in my late 2009 MacBookPro with a brand new Seagate Momentus XT drive.
All checks through Disc Utility say the drive is "OK."
I also followed steps to partition the volume and everything went well.
Once I begin to install the disc, it freezes saying "Install Failed - Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer - the installer could not install some files in "/Volumes/macHD."
I erased the disk, reformatted with a new partition, selected to restart from disc after the last attempt. This time the it actually progressed a good bit!?!
It stopped somewhere after progressing down from "3 hours 3 minutes" to "2 hours 30 minutes."
What could be wrong if it's actually progressing??? I really do not want to have to deal our local Apple-certified dealer: they're RUDE! Our closest Apple Store is TWO HOURS away. =(

Are you running OS 10.6?
1. Did you format the new volume as Mac OS Extended (journaled) and is the disk partition map scheme GUID Partition Table? Both of these can be seen in Disk Utility.
2. Is the install disk suitable? It needs to be the original 10.6 ( which is this forum) disk that came with the MacBook Pro or the colourful Snow Leopard retail DVD that you purchased afterwards to upgrade.

Trouble installing 10.5 to new hard drive

I just installed a new 500gb hard drive to my macbook pro, i formatted it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and used disk utilities to restore from my old hard drive which copied the os and all my user files over.
I now want to reinstall the OS as Preserve Users and Network Settings but when i stick the drop in disk and select the hard drive it says:
"You cannot install Mac OS X on this Volume. To enable installation on this volume open Disk Utilities from the utilities menu and repartition the disk as GUID table. Not you will lose all data on this disk by repartitioning.
My main goal is to reinstall the OS without losing my user files, applications and not have to reinstall or enter cd keys and all my preferences. any ideas?

the drive in an intel Mac has to be formatted with GUID partition scheme to install OS X on it. Yours is almost certainly formatted MBR right now. You have to reformat the drive (this will wipe it). in disk utilities select the whole drive (model, not name) and click on the partition tab. click on Options and choose GUID partition tab. set the format to mac os extended journaled and click "apply". after that you can clone your old drive to the new one. you can use the restore tab in DU as you did or a 3rd party cloner like CCCloner or Superduper.

Trouble installing Camera Raw on new computer

Bought a new desktop today, which is running Win7 x64 Home Premium. Previously was running a laptop with Win7 x64 Ultimate.
I've installed CS5 with the appropriate patches, and attempted to install ACR7.1. The Adobe Application Manager launched and errors with:
"Updates could not be applied. Please contact your Administrator if you wish to apply updates on your machine. Updates have been suppressed by the Administrator."
First of all, is this a Windows priviledges error, or an Adobe App Manager error?
If it's the former, I am logged in locally with the Admin account. I have tried running the patch installer "Run as Administrator" with the same result.
What could be causing this and how do I remedy it?

Use the Update menu item from the Help menu in Photoshop to update ACR to the latest version of ACR that can run with CS5, which is indeed ACR 6.7. I mistyped above "6.6".

Trouble installing itunes on a new computer

I switched my ipod to my girlfriend's computer and I am having trouble downloading itunes and getting it to work, at first I was getting the installshield runtime error (1607) but then I got past that but it still won't work, it always says the installation was interrupted before it was able to be completed. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it??? PLEASE HELP!!

No, you aren't. The serial number for the PSE 8 download will not work with the boxed version and vice versa. This only changed with PSE 9, but in all previous versions, if you have a disc, you need the disc for your serial number to work. Also, there is no download link available if you didn't buy the download in the first place.

With a single user license, you can install Acrobat on maximum two computers, say, your laptop at work and desktop at office.
But, you cannot use Acrobat on both the machines simultaneously.
You will first need to deactivate Acrobat from the old machine, then install and activate the software on the new OS with the same serial key.

Hello All,
I'm having trouble installing Solaris 10(x86) u4 8/07 on a new Dell OptiPlex 755.
I have also tried installing opensolaris 9/07 Express Dev snv_70b with the same issue.
I tried disabling all unnecessary hardware in the BIOS as well.
After GNU GRUB loads and I select Solaris install after about 20 dots.... I get:

No SOF interrupts have been received
this USB EHCI host controller is unusable
Hardware:
Dell OptiPlex 755 Small Form Factor, Pentium Dual Core, E2160/1.8GHz1M,800FSB,1GB ram.
I am only installing Solaris 10 - no other OS will be on the HD.
Is there any hope for getting SolX installed on this machine or should I return this hardware and by a different model? I have to build 2 pc's with SolX for development boxs.

Mesaprs86, Any luck with that drive? I just got the same HD and the new MBP. I also bought an enclosure. I'm completely new to OSX. I have not even turned on the computer yet. Do I install the new drive into the computer and then install the software from the cd? Or do I have to copy the original HD to the new one in an enclosure? I've looked at the videos online, but they all seem to be aimed at people who are replacing a drive that already has been used for awhile. What is the best way to do a completely clean, new install. What did you end up doing Mesaprs86?

Having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks

I am having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks.
I know that iMovie HD works with Mavericks because we are using it on other Macs successfully. However, those machines were upgraded starting with OS 10.6. In other words, iMovie HD was installed on these Macs when the Macs had Snow Leopard.
When I use the iLife 06 disc, I am presented with “You can't open the application “iLife 06” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
I understand that iMovie HD is universal, not PowerPC. How can I get past this to install iMovie HD.

OK, I made some progress.
I used Pacifist (Shareware) to open the iMovie HD 6 install packages from the iLife '06 installer DVD (iMovie.pkg and iMovieThemes_Tiger.pkg) and let Pacifist install them to the right places.
But doesn't iMovie HD 6 require QuickTime 7 to work ?

Go here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582, download the update file and run it. Ideally, start up in Safe Mode when you do the update.
