I am having trouble installing Photoshop CS4 on my MacBook OS X 10.7.5. I have downloaded the software and when I go to install it gets hung up on the 'preparing to install' screen.

The Adobe Cleanscript CS4 should take care of things. On the Premiere fora, we normally recommend that one run it several times, rebooting between each.
Also, here is a general CHECKLIST for installing most Adobe programs.

It's not possible. Standalone licenses are platform specific. You need a second license for your Mac or use Creative Cloud.

Photoshop CS4 has not been tested and you might face compatibility issues with MAC OS 10.8.3
Please consider upgrading to the latest CS6 version. You can even opt for a monthly subscription for it from Creative Cloud at a very nominal fee.

Tina Hadley did you migrate/transfer your applications over to your new Macintosh? If so this could cause problems with your serial number being recognized. Please run the available uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once this is done you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool. I already tried every step on the support site, but Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator still don't work. So this is an S.O.S. here...

I've repaired many a 150:30 error using this method. First make sure your account is an Administrator type.
When you type sudo <space> and drag LicenseRecover.py into the Terminal window, this is what you should see when you press Enter.
Type in your admin password if any, and let the script run and finish.

Problems installing Photoshop CS4, keeps getting stuck on "installing Adobe Air." Tips?

I'm trying to install Photoshop CS4, but it keeps getting stuck on "installing Adobe Air" every time. Freezes, makes no more progress, eventually I have to force quit. I've even downloaded and installed it (Air) separately, but it keeps getting stuck on it in the CS4 install. Any tips? I'm running 10.8.5 on a MacBook Air. Saw something about deleting Adobe FlashPlayer to maybe fix it? Any and all tips welcome. Thx.

Googling only comes up with a couple things where someone was trying to
install a cracked version they downloaded, so it could be a corruption
problem.
If this is a downloaded installer, then redownload it and try installing,
again.
If you are inserting a DVD and autoplay is starting up and you get this
message, you can shut down the installer process as you've done then instead
of double-clicking the DVD, use right-click Explore to view the files
directly on the DVD without running AutoPlay, then find the setup.exe or
something.MSI with EN in it's name to run the installer, directly, without
goint through autoplay. This would only make a difference if the autoplay
is corrupted somehow but everything else is ok. Since your error message
talks about autoplay then maybe that is the case.
If you are calling Adobe for support, it can take hours, depending on when
you call.

and basically apologizes for poor support, recently, while they change from

download both, place both in the same directory and click (or double click) the exe.

Re-installing Photoshop CS4

I recently ran into some trouble with Photoshop CS4, and decided to uninstall and then reinstall in the hopes it would solve the problem. I was able to uninstall Photoshop, but I've been having a problem re-installing. The Application 1 disk runs fine, but when I put in the Application 2 disk, It stops partway through the install and never continues. I don't recall having any issue installing the Creative Suite. Anyone have any answers to this problem?

You did not uninstall anything, you ran a repiar install, which - erm - just "repairs" by overwriting al lyour program files. Contrary to what the name may suggest, it usually does not fix anything, so yes, you will have to go the full mile, uninstall everything first, clean out the installer database and then reinstall. Do read the articles! Everything is covered there.

My PS CS4 is working great in Windows 7 RC.
When you bought the CS4 software did you buy it as a download or did you buy the CD?
Either way you still have to run the install as administrator.
Look in event viewer. If CS4 hung like that event viewer would record it.

Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past. The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box. If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

When you purchase a Creative Suite collection, you can't run an upgrade on an individual product within the Suite. You have to upgrade the entire collection.
You could purchase a copy of Photoshop CS6, or a subscription to Photoshop which can be as little as $9.99 with the Photography plan to the Creative Suite.
Adobe no longer sells upgrades to CS3 or CS4.
