Trouble installing Vista 64 from USB DVD

I am trying to install Vista64 from external DVD thru USB.  It boots from the DVD and starts the install process, but after I click on 'Install Now', it puts a screen that says I need a driver for my external DVD before it can proceed.  Where do I get this?
Thanks,   I have an X61s.

It is an issue iwth our older EFI 1.x (or EFI32) and Vista SP1 64-bit that needs UEFI 2.x (EFI64).
Sort of the same issue as the Nvidia 8800GT had to come out in two flavors.
I have Windows already installed, older pre-SP1, and from there I can install SP1 DVD.
At this point, I much prefer Windows 7 over Vista x64 SP1 or SP2(beta). Just runs better. Last day tomorrow maybe to download.

  • Is it possible to install Oracle linux from usb?

    Hi Guys,
Is it possible to install Oracle linux from usb? If yes, may I know the exact procedures to do so.
I am using linux ubuntu and I tried to make a bootable usb with the dvd iso of oracle linux 6 using Unetbootin software. The installation started well.
but after formatting the harddisk, I got an error as shown below
    Missing ISO 9660 image
The installer has tried to mount image #1, but cannot find it on the hard drive.
I think ISO 9660 image is something connected with the CD image or something. But not sure...
Can anyone help me out with this situation.... Thank you..

    HI
I know this is an old post but has anyone resolved this issue? I am trying to install OEL 6U4 via usb with no luck. Keep getting Missing ISO 9660 Image. I have tried all the tools under the sun to write it to USB, also tried copying the iso to the Boot disk.. as stated above... no luck ....
I have checked the installation files using md5 and they are fine... just in case downloaded it again as well as 6U3 and 6U0.
I have installed almost every version of linux there is... but OEL is definitely the most difficult and after 3 days, I am ready to give up. Any idea?
BTW. I am using utilities on windows 8 to write the iso to USB.
    Thanks

  • Having trouble installing Arch Linux to USB key

    Hello,
I have read the wiki article, but it doesn't answer my question. I am having trouble installing Arch to a USB key (8GB Sandisk Cruzer). I installled GRUB correctly, it booted, but the flash drive was write-protected. In the fstab file, I have the defaults and noatime flags in there. I have never experienced an error like this, and I don't know how to fix it. I have tried to reboot into the Arch CD and mounted the USB, but it just stalls and displays no output. Obviously, if I boot into my USB (you can still boot into it), and do "nano /etc/fstab", it says that I cannot write. In case you were wondering, I am using the root user. Thank you for all your help!
EDIT: I have Syslinux, the kernel parameters is RW. If I run mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda1, it tells me something like:
    ata3.00: status: {DRDY ERR}
    ata3.00: error: {IDNF}
    end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 21
Buffer I/o error on device sda1, logical block 0
EXT4-fs error (device sda1): ext4_remount:4665: Abort forced by user

I'm a nub, and I think I'll piggy back of aqua's post.  Perhaps we have the same problem
I have an Asus UX31A with Xubuntu (with grub) currently installed.  I created the bootable USB as per the Arch Wiki UEFI bootable usb page.  I can boot into the main prompt where you can choose "Arch Linux Iso", "shell v1", "shell v2" and "Default prompt."
Choosing the first option (to get to the the command prompt and begin installing) makes the screen flash once, then just hangs black.  Before the flash I think I see three text lines in the upper left corner, but they flash so fast I can't read them.
Choosing either of the shell options presents the error:
"Error loading \EFI\shellx64_v1.efi: Unsupported"  (replace "v1" with "v2" for the other option)
    Any thoughts?

  • Trouble installing Vista 64 bit home premium

I am trying to use boot camp to install Vista 64 bit home premium. The disk is a full install. Boot camp works fine, but when I insert the windows disk and attempt to boot off of it, I am confronted with a screen that gives me two options with no names, labeled only 1 and 2, and instructions to select a CD boot type. However, I cannot select any of them because my keyboard does not work! I have tried several times, with several partition sizes, and even brought out an old USB Microsoft keyboard, which is still not recognized. I have done this with only non-apple peripherals, as well - microsoft mouse, acer monitor, and all USB devices plugged directly into the back of the computer. I have not seen this problem listed anywhere else, so can anyone here help me? I have looked everywhere. Thank you.

  • Satellite L505D-S5986 - trouble installing Ubuntu using live USB/CD

Hello all I need urgent support from all and the ubuntu community.
I am a passionate Ubuntu user and I have been using for a year. My old laptop got crashed when I flashed the bios.
I now bought a TOSHIBA L505d-S5986 laptop which has amd athlon 2 dual core M300 processor and ATI Radon 4100 video card.
I had huge trouble installing ubuntu when I put the live usb/cd it took very long time to boot and when it got inside the OS every thing freeze.
I then tried fedora but even that dint work well it got into the same problem freeze!
I searched and found that its due to the error acpi:lnxvideo:' unexpected exit with status 0x0009.
This also given in this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1301101
So I put the acpi=off in the grub boot menu and then added to the gconf and now ubuntu is working. But the system monitor shows just one processor in use (again due to disabling acpi I guess) and ofcourse when I remove the power ubuntu dosent dim the screen and dosent show any battery sign.
All linux guys and developers please post a solution for this hardware module.
    Awaiting your replies
    Thanks
    Vineeth

    Hi Vineeth,
This is very strange and Im only using Knopix bootable DVD sometimes so Im not a Linux expert.
There is no official support for Linux from Toshiba but the only interesting that I have founded is this:

  • Can't install Win 7 from USB with Boot Camp - please help

    Hi,
I'm going crazy trying to install Win 7 from a USB using Boot Camp.
I've got a 13" MacBook (Aluminum) with 6GB RAM (trying to get to 8GB, but that's a different issue), 500GB HDD, running 10.7.4.
In the Boot Camp Assistant I want to partition 60GB for the Win 7 drive, but when I click install I get the error: "The installer disc could not be found.  Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for it to be recognized."  However, the USB drive that I used Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool in Win XP to create is plugged in.  I also have the .iso file on my Mac desktop.
Googling hasn't produced any solution that I can work - most seem to be using Boot Camp assistant 3.0, and I've got 4.0.3 running.
I'd appreciate help, particularly step-by-step instructions that I could follow.
    Thanks in advance.

Lion has been out and most threads here deal with 10.7. and BCA 4.0.x
There are problems with burning ISO to DVD etc at anything other than slowest burn speed (2x)
New 2012 models don't have an internal DVD but if you do, then yours does not support a USB-DVD.
So you are running XP now and have Windows XP partition? knowing that the update will need 40GB and that Lion does not support XP.
Look at the other posts I made this morning for some of the FAQ Boot Camp support links.

  • Install windows 8 from USB on X1 Carbon

I am trying to install windows 8 from the 3 disks that came with the X1 Carbon. There is no DVD drive and we have no external disk drive, so I need to create a bootable USB for this. The laptop came with windows 7 on it.
It is easy to use DISKPART to ready the USB as a bootable device, but how to I take the data from the 3 DVDs and put it onto the USB so that it works? The first one only has drivers but the OS install is split onto two disks. I referred to a KB article but it was talking about autorun files that are not present on these DVDs.
The DVDs I have are labeled as (1) Applications and Drivers Recovery Disk, (2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 1 of 2], and (2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 2 of 2].
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Sorry I don't have a solution for you.  I've tried to do what you're attempting without success.  Tried every trick I could think of. The best I could do was getting "disk" 1 to boot but it could never find the rest of the image from the other disks whether they were on separate USB drives or all on one.  It can easily be done with Microsoft install media, but not recovery media.
My efforts were with Win 7 Lenovo media.  It's possible that things have changed w/Win 8.
My only suggestion is to use an external DVD drive.

  • Need help installing Win8.1 from USB on MBP.

I have tried so many different things to get Windows 8.1 installing on my MacbookPro Late 2011 via USB.
I have modified the Bootcamp app as to allow me to create a usb installation from .iso.
    Those instructions are here:
Enable Bootcamp to install from usb for OSX 10.9**WORKS**
However upon following through and rebooting after partitioning the MBP just goes to a black screen and I get "No bootable device found"
I have tried creating a usb drive by cleaning, formating, and setting active a usb drive in Windows via diskpart. I then copied all elements
from my Windows 8.1 Pro iso to it. However this only gives me EFI boot option on the boot select screen when holding option.
The clean, partition, active steps were found here:
Enable Bootcamp to install from usb for OSX 10.9**WORKS**
EFI boot has never worked for me. It always results in windows install saying that the installer can't install to non GPT disks.
Whenever I try to use EFI boot on the USB installer, the Windows 8.1 installer won't install to the parition that either I have made with the bootcamp utility or simple another fat32 parition I made myself without the bootcamp utility. (Hyrbrid MBR vs strict GPT?)
After all this, simply inserting a windows 8.1 DVD into the drive I get the magical WINDOWS boot option in the boot option menu and I can install fine.
Why can't I get USB install of windows working.
I also still don't understand why EFI install never works for me.
This is in regards to a late 2011 MBP with dvd drive. It is running Yosemite.

You can use nvram (https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man8/nvram.8.html) but the issue is one of timing. If you are in BCA and BCA sets values and restarts, if you interrupt it using Alt key, switch to OSX (which will cause nvram to change as well), change nvram by guessing what BCA sets, and start again, what is not being set in nvram is lost.
In your specific case, is the Optical drive broken for you to try and attempt a pure USB-only installation?
If you make partitions using DU, and want BCA to use them, you must ensure an equivalent MBR set of entries.
BCA was designed to take care of all this anyway.
The easier method that I have suggested (via Feedback, to Apple Engineers) is to release firmware updates for all machine considered capable of running Yosemite/Mavericks and let them become UEFI compliant. If the CSM-BIOS layer already provides BIOS equivalents for EFI and Windows works using these with a Hybrid MBR, the EFI cousins should also work.
The other challenge is that W7 has EFI support, but full UEFI is available in W8+. There is no motivation on either side to retrofit older OS/HW to make it all work together for the convenience of the consumer.

  • Installing windows 7 from USB to vaio VPCf13

    hi all,
the HD of my vaio broke, so I replaced with a SSD and I was trying to install windows 7 from a USB.
after the first step of the installation, I got this message:
A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing
I tried several tricks suggested in the forums:
-check the USB image of windows, works ok in another computer
-change USB port (tried the 2 available), nothing
-change BIOS features to enable UEFI, the computer is too old for that and doesn't have this option
-install the intel  SATA/RAID drivers after the error (as indicated here http://pcingredient.blogspot.com/2014/01/repair-error-windows-7-required-cddvd.html), error "The intel 5 series port 6 sata AHCI----, device driver could not be istalled.
contact your vendor for updated driver
-install USB 3.0 driver, after the missing message I get no new devices could be found...."
    please help me!!!

    Hi,
Have you tested in other computer with this bootable usb drive?
Return back to installation UI, and press Shift+F10 simultaneously, then it will open cmd window.
    Run those commands below:
    Diskpart
    List disk
Check if it shows your USB drive. If you cannot usb drive, it indicates your usb drive is not detected by Windows PE. So, please just plug out and then re-plug in your usb drive to view if usb drive shows.
    and then reinstall Windows 7.
