Trouble keeping an iBook G3 connected to my network.

It’s a 12” 500mhz machine, running 10.3.9 that I connect through Ethernet. When I first plug it in, it works fine. It finds the network and I can surf the web in no time. Sometimes, and there is no rhyme or reason why, it will randomly lose the web connection. Under the Network tab in System Preferences, I can still see the IP, Router address, etc... I can even still access the file servers on the network...but no web connection.
On other networks, this doesn’t happen. At home, and in coffee shops, I can get a connection, and keep it.
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on, or what I could do to solve this problem?
Powermac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you been able to get a connection through ethernet at the outside locations since you started noticing this problem at home?
Do other computers on your network connect to the internet okay?
You may want to call your Internet Service Provider and ask for their Mac specialist and have him/her troubleshoot the issue with you.

  • Airport keeps dropping the wireless connection to my network 2 or 3 times a day.

    Hi,
Since apple's recent firmware update for my macbook pro, airport keeps dropping the wireless connection to my network 2 or 3 times a day. It then searches for a network but can't find it, but if I select my network manually it connects immediately ???
Any fixes for this ..... in layman's language please!
    Thanks,
    Steve

It is not the router. There are a number of factors that are involved. If the router is a G/N router you may have to switch to G-Only (or disable N). You may also have a 5 GHz wireless phone or other routers in the neighborhood interfereing with the signal.
    Try this:
    1. Open network preferences. Take note of what IP address is assigned. Then, click Advanced.
    2. Click on TCP/IP and select Using DHCP with manual address and type the IP address below that.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Set your Router to Wireless-G only (or disable N) and change the channel to 11 or some higher number.
This should keep it from dropping the wireless connection. It is a bug in the OS. Apple has not fixed it in 3 years.
You wireless connection will be a tad slower, but you really won't notice.
    Hope that helps.

  • Ibooks losing connection to wireless network.

I work at a school that has several generations of IBooks, starting from 2002 until current. I am having a problem with some of my older Ibooks disconnecting from the network and internet. The airport signal still has all or three bars that are black so I don't think it is a weak signal. If I turn the airport off and then back on again and reconnect to our network it fixes the problem temporarily but then it will happen again. These laptops are running 10.2.8 and have the older Airport cards in them, not the Airport Extreme. We have both airport snow and airport graphite base stations, 7 total in our school.
    Do airport cards go "bad"?

Sounds like you are not connecting to the correct network.  Let say you called your network ORLANDO.  You should see ORLANDO in view your network connections. Also, if you would click on view workgroups computers, you should see all your computers listed.  You will have to log on to your router and make sure everything is set up properly.  XP default is MSHOME.
I have had my share of problems using WUSB54GC on my windows 98 se.  No problems with XP sp 3 using identical adaptor.  I am been at this for a couple of months.  Usually unpluging adaptor and repluging it will solve the problem.  No problems using XP. I have even switch adaptors on both computers.

  • WRT54GL causing bsod only when an Mac ibook g4 connects wirelessly.

    Hello all you tech gurus!
I consider myself a pretty adept pc user. I've built systems, installed wired and wireless networks, many kinds of peripherals, and so far, have not run into any problems I have not been able to figure out.
    Here is the situation:
I set up a wireless network for a friend using a WRT54GL router with a firmware version of 4.30.11. There are only 2 wired pc's connected to this router using c5 ethernet cabling. The first and main pc (which is the pc getting the bsod) is a Compaq Presario CQ5320Y running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. The second pc connected by ethernet is an ancient home built system running XP Home. Both pc's work well in all regards, both internet and non-internet items. There is an Apple pc (don't know the model of this one) that is connected wirelessly with no problems. These 3 pc's can all be using the internet at the same time with no problems what-so-ever.
The problem arises when a Mac ibook G4 connects wirelessly to the network. When the ibook connects to the network wirelessly, it causes a bsod (error code 0x00000007)on the Compaq Presario within 10 minutes of the ibook connecting to the network.(yes, I've researched that error code and ruled out hardware problems on the Compaq. The Compaq can run for weeks on end without any bsod, it only bsod's when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.) IF the ibook G4 is connected to the network via an ethernet cable, there are NO PROBLEMS with the Compaq. The Compaq ONLY gets the bsod when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.
Sad to say, I have almost no experience with Apple pc's and I am not sure if this is a router configuration problem or a configuration problem on the ibook G4. Remember, there is an Apple desktop connected to the network wirelessly with NO PROBLEMS.
If anyone can point me in the correct direction in trying to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Many thanks!
    Chuck

Or you can assign a static IP address on the computer it self.
If it is a MAC computer then click on APPLE icon. Go to system preferences. Click on Network and select Ethernet. Go to Advanced settings and go to TCP/IP settings. Change the configuration to Manual and assign a static IP address to the computer.
If it is windows computer then open Network connections. Right click on Local area connection/ wireless network connection and go to properties. Click on Internet protocol TCP/IP properties. Assign a static IP address.

  • IBook autoconnect to my wireless network?

I previously had an iBook G3 800 that I had set up to automatically log onto my wireless network at startup.
Well, that iBook had motherboard issues and became unusable, so I got another one (same exact model). In fact, I pulled the Airport card from that iBook and am now using it in the new one.
So, here is the situation: I can connect to my wireless network, but everytime after a restart I have to enter in my network name and WEP code (10 digit hex) to connect.
My router is a Linksys 802.11b and I have MAC address filtering enabled (the iBook is on the approved list), 64-bit WEP encryption, and have it set not to broadcast the SSID.
So, what I really want (and I already know it is possible) is to have the iBook automatically connect to the network at startup. I can't seem to find an 'option' for this anywhere.
Thanks in advance, I eagerly await a solution!
PS: Any info I left out just ask!
(I also posted this in the iBook section, since it could relate to both)

If you use "Preferred Networks," instead of "Automatic" for your "By default, join" setting Location, try the following:
System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > AirPort tab
    - Delete all preferred networks with encryption
    - Add them again after manually connecting
(Note: It will be faster if you turn on "Automatically add new networks to preferred networks list" under "Options" of the AirPort network connection.)

  • Closed Connection - Change in Network

I keep alternating with LAN connection and wireless network WiFi connection. The reason is I have a docking station at my desk and I leave my desk, I undock my laptop it connects to wireless automatically.
The Problem - Say I am working on SQL developer (Version 2.1.1.64 Build MAIN-64.45) at my desk and I undock my laptop(now the LAN connection in wireless). The next time I try to execute a query, it says "Closed Connection". Going to connections and disconnect and reconnect also does not help. I have to close SQL developer and reopen it.
All my other applications like remote server, FTP client etc have no problems with the change of connection. Is there any setting or anything I can do for SQL Developer not to terminate the connection because of the network changes?

Sometimes I also get "Io exception: Connection reset by peer: socket write error"

  • I am having trouble connecting to my network all of a sudden. It is not an issue with the service/router. I keep getting kicked off and getting a ! in my airport... anyone know what's up with this?

I am having trouble connecting to my network all of a sudden. I am able to connect to other networks but not my own. It is not an issue with the service/router because other devices connect fine. I keep getting kicked off and getting a ! in my airport. Last time it happended I called apple and the suggested I wipe my HD and reinstall everything. I did and it did not work. One day I turned my laptop on and it connected no problem. Now it has kicked me off again. I tried resetting my IP address but that does not work either! Has anyone had this problem?

    Try this:
Apple menu / System Preferences / Network.
Click Location: and select Edit Locations..
Click + (plus sign), and enter a name for the new location - anything will do.
    Apply this.

Is there an option that someone knows about that would keep this from happening?
no, if iTunes can't find its drive/folder, it defaults to creating one within your Home directory's Music folder.
If anyone knows a way I send a product suggestions to apple please let me know, as I have a few that would like to suggest.

  • I am having trouble keeping wifi connection on my ipad2 and iPhone 5. AT

I Am having trouble keeping my wifi connection on iPhone 5 but especially ipad2. Have had IPad checked out and is fine. At
&T has changed the router 3 times but no help.  Will a different router other than AT&T solve this problem and if so, which one.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

I am trying to use Siri, and I get the message "Sorry, I am having trouble connecting to the network."  Is this the expected "growing pains" of this new feature/service, or am I doing something wrong?  Are there any settings that I gotta do before I can use Siri?
    Thanks.

I've had the same issue with my wife's iPhone, the first night it worked great then nothing.  My iPhone 4s has had no issues.  I disabled Siri and shut the iPhone off, waited a minute or so and turned it back on.  Re-enable Siri, her info populated automatically.  Siri has been working for the last 30 minutes with no problems ??  Server problems, too many things open at once, having the phone loaded to the hilt with no free space?  It could be any number of things, or many thing working together to silence Siri.....good luck all, I hope this helps.

  • IBook G4 - Connection problems

    Hi,
I have a network with my iMac G5 and iBook G4 connected to it. My iBook shows that it is connected to the network, but I can no longer connect to my G5 or the internet. When I check the network status, Airport shows I am connected to the network but cannot connect to the internet because Airport does not have an IP address. When I connect the iBook directly to the net using ethernet, it still cannot connect. I believe there is a preference gone bad or something on the iBook, but I don't know where to start. Does anyone know were I shoud go to try to trash my preferances for interner. I shoud add, that when I try to start Safari, it will not load. The icon just keeps bouncing in the dock. I am running 10.3.9 on the iBook and 10.4 on the G5.

Fixed... I just upgraded to Tiger...
