Hi:
You can start trying this troubleshooting doc:

If you have problems with different apps you probably have a system problem.
Hope that helps !

  • Trouble with DVD Studio Pro

I have a project in which I have two seperate clips from final cut pro i am trying to burn to DVD. One is the movie the other is the slide show. I created a project and placed both in. I set up a menu and two buttons one for each clip. I then linked them. In the preview window my buttons work fine, but once I burn it to DVD and put it in a dvd player I cannot get the remote to reconginze the buttons. Any suggestions will help me so much I really appreciate it.

DVDSP is actually very easy to use at the basic level, but it's not a "one touch" system and trying to treat it as such is the source of all kinds if problems. I strongly suggest that you go through the DVDSP user manual to get familiar with how the basics work.
The problem of buttons not highlighting is a common one but simple to fix in the inspector once you understand buttons. This is only slightly harder than chewing gum while walking...
If you're interested, Ripple Training has a nice tutorial on DVDSP that is both thorough and easy to understand. I need to state that although I have no financial interest in that product, I did work with Ripple on the project in the motion graphics and editing so I am biased.
    Good luck!

  • DVD Studio Pro Won't Launch

When I try to launch DVD Studio Pro 4.02, I get a series of error messages saying that it can't find specific files. These files are from an old project that I deleted, so they no longer exist. The real problem is that it eventually freezes and doesn't open. I reinstalled from the disks, reinstalled the upgrades, tried deleting every project file and all files in the DVD Studio Pro folders and I still get the error messages and the program freeze. Any help would be appreciated.

Solved the problem. I had to clear out all files from the "Movies" folder. Still a bit annoying that the program won't launch without having all of the files.

  • Why does dvd studio Pro all of a sudden want my serial number?

Using DVDSP 4.2.1.  This has been stable on my Mac Pro for many years now.  The file importer got confused somehow and even Activity Monitor had trouble force quitting.
I repaired permissions and rebooted and all seemed fine. Now about every 3 or 4 times I start DVDSP it'a asking for me to put in my identifying info, including the SN.. I've got the SN, but I don't feel all warm and fuzzy about this.  Does anyone know what has happened and how I can be sure things are not going to lock me out when I need to keep going on a project?

I have had this problem occur rather often.  Not sure which OS you are running.  A couple of things, after entering the number, close it out and open the older version of Motion (the one from the Studio and install discs, not the new one if you purchased through app store.)
Then either launch DVD Studio Pro via going into the App Folder and open a project that way OR close out DVD SP and click a DVD SP project to open it.  Yeah, it sounds weird.  On one of my computers following one of those seems to have cut down the asking for a serial number a lot, while on another computer the second version seems to work.  I have not tracked down where the problem came from yet, but I had the same thing - stable for years.  And I do not recall even doing any updates because once I have computers working, I leave them alone unless needed.  I am guessing I probably loaded a driver or something.....

  • DVD Studio Pro doesn't run anymore, please help

After launching DVD Studio Pro an alert appears: "can't find Sequence BranFIN-00000029". Then it asks search or cancel and then the program stops running whatever I do, and needs a forced quit. The same happens again and again after restarting it, even after a hardware reset. What can I do? Thanks in advance. PR.

Can you launch DVD SP without clicking on a project? Looks like you used a reference movie in a project and part of it is gone. (In other words it is probably that one project and not DVD SP in general). Cancel should work. Have you moved files/deleted render files/swithced hard drives?

  • H264/mp4 and  DVD studio pro

I have launched dvd studio pro after years and tried  to import a mp4 video file with h264 as codec, dvd sp, did not allow  me to make it,
Sorry for this such stupid question, but what are files extension that dvd sp can manage.

For best results, you need to convert to MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio. This is easily done in Compressor although there are other apps that work as well.
Technically, you can use MPEG-1 video and PCM/WAV audio but that's a step backwards, and you could use H.264 to make a HD-DVD although the only players for that are a Mac, a PlayStation or an HD-DVD player which went out of production 6-8 years ago.
Use the presets for DVD in Compressor and all should be fine.
    hope this helps

  • Finalizing a disc in DVD Studio Pro

    Hi All...
Can you please help me... I feel like this should be simple but I cannot seem to get it.
I am creating a playable dvd.  Wanting to insert it into the dvd player, have it play and it loop.
    I found this article:
    http://library.creativecow.net/articles/alexzander_alex/single_track_dvd.php
Seemed to work just fine because I tested it on my computer and it did everything... started playing instantly and even looped.
BUT... when I inserted it into my dvd player attached to my tv... it reads it as a data dvd.  I cannot seem to find the option to finalize my disc.  I've burned this to a +RW & to a -R.
Please help... Thank you very much!

If the disc will only play in your Mac, then there's a high probability that you created an "HD DVD" instead of a DVD.
HD DVD is a dead format; having been abandoned by its developers several years ago.  HD DVDs will only play in later model Macs and a couple of (now obsolete) HD DVD player models that were manufactured by Toshiba.
If you find this is the cause of the issue in your case, launch DVD Studio Pro and change the preferences so that it will author a DVD (standard definition), then start a new project and begin the authoring process again.  Do not attempt to change your existing project - that will not work properly.

  • Serializing DVD Studio Pro 4.0

I teach TV Broadcasting at a high school. We are using iMac G5s and eMacs to run Final Cut Studio. We have a classroom license for all of the programs in the suite, but whenever I try to export (either in Final Cut or in Quick Time) to MPeg2, I get an error message stating that this is not allowed until DVD Studio Pro 4.0 is "serialized." What does this mean and how do I do it? When I installed the suite, I entered the license number that came with the software. Is there some other serial number that I need to enter, and if so, how do I do this now that everything is installed. All of the programs in the suite are apparently fully functioning, with the exception of exporting to MPeg 2.

Actually it does work, and it does make sense.
The mpeg2 output option is a feature now associated with DVD Studio Pro, not compressor or FCP.
Try this. Somewhere in one of your libraries there's file called FCP.reg.pref or something. Delete that file, then launch Final Cut Pro. You'll have to re-register, just like when you first installed. Same thing with DVD Studio Pro.
If your FCP can't find this file, you won't be able to export as mpeg2. If you haven't installed DVD Studio Pro at all, you can't export to mpeg2. If you haven't launched DVD Studio Pro yet, you have to make sure it has opened to create that preference file. If you have launched it, you need to make sure you didn't move the preference file.

  • Updating Connections DVD Studio Pro Trouble

When trying to open all of my DVD Studio Pro projects. In the "Loading Project" window, it just sits on Updating Connections. I just did the Apple Pro update yesterday. And today I can not open projects. I am thinking that has to do with the problem. Has anyone else found a fix for this?
    Thanks

Actually the problem is officially "ProKit 6.0.1" update that they release a couple weeks ago.
We discovered this on another forums thread. I forgot to post the answer here.
You need to get a copy of Prokit 5.0 then replace the 6.0.1 folder with the older version. Use the directions at this link.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/restoringan_older_version_ofprokit.html
I did it on my laptop. And everything corrected it self without having to do any reinstall or anything weird. I literally just copied the ProKit 5.0 folder from my desktop after I reformatted it. Went to my laptop and deleted the 6.0.1 folder and put in the older version. Then everything worked fine and I haven't had any trouble since.
    Good luck
    PS
FYI, I've found that the Genius's they have working at the Apple store are anything but. When I was having the same problem, they couldn't figure it out either.
Of course they are the same group that said that I had to buy the expensive $150 copy of Snow Leopard with the new iLife to upgrade my desktop from Tiger. When all I really needed was the $29 upgrade disk.

  • Trouble with Dual Layer DVD in DVD Studio Pro

I am having some trouble burning a Dual Layer DVD in DVDSP.  About 1 out 3 discs are coming out unplayable on multiple players and some are freezing during playback (starting and stopping).  I have not worked with DL DVD's before and was wondering if there is a particular brand that might be better then another or if there are some settings I may be missing in DVDSP.
I am using Memorex Dual Layer DVD+R DVD's, my project is 7.1 GB's, and I am running DVD Studio Pro 4.  Any feedback or ideas would be appreciated.

    >I am using Memorex
That's the most likely cause of the problem.  Memorex is notorious for poor quality.  Try switching to Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (now under the JVC brand).

  • Trouble burning with Alias and DVD studio pro

Thanks for taking a moment to read this.
I'm trying to make a DVD-rom and have everything linked up correctly, however, when I drag or copy my pdf documents into the right folder, it creates an alias of the files. This seems to be common when burning regular DVD's and the computer then simply burns the main files from the alias onto the disk, however, when I burn the dvd-rom through DVD Studio Pro, only the alias's copy to the folder and then the links within the dvd don't work(there is no data, only the alias for the documents)
    Any ideas are much appreciated?

It sounds like you have set up a "Burn" folder. You do not want a burn folder. Create a regular folder. Drag everything you want on your DVD into that folder (or copy everything you want into that folder by Option–dragging the file into the folder.) Then in DVD SP click on your disc in the Outline then look at your Inspector. In the DVD-ROM section, select the folder that you have set up.

  • DVD studio pro trouble

Mac friends: Any one use DVD Studio Pro? I want to tear my hair out. I have my menu and assets all ready to go and when played on the simulator things work perfectly... Then when I burn the DVD - nothing. Nada. Suggestions??? I'm on a deadline.

You need to describe what is happening better.

What does that mean? The disc does not burn? The disc does not playback in a DVD player?

  • LaCie DLB trouble communicating with DVD Studio Pro 4

I have built and formatted my 5gb dvd properly inside of DSP 4. I have LaCie DLB External firewired in and set properly. When I go to burn the tray comes out, it muxes...but when the formatting begins it stops and I get this message; "Formatting failed. The recording device reported the error #6: Power on, reset, or bus device reset occurred. (0x29, 0x00). I know the burner works if I use Toast...but I want it to work directly from DVD studio pro 4. My question is...1) what is that message? 2) does dvd studio pro 4 and LaCie work together? LaCie says they don't support dvd studio pro 4. 3) would it just be easier to install a internal dual layer burner?

Delete the "com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist" before or after you install the update but before you repair permissions.

  • DVD Studio Pro WMP11

    HI All…..
I authored a DVD using DVD Studio Pro 4.1.2. The DVD plays fine on Macs, on DVD players and on WIndow Media Player 12, but on Windows Media Player 11 it plays no sound unless additional codec(s) are installed.
Does anyone have a workaround for this problem *other than* installing the codecs?
    I've tried re-authoring using AC-3 2.0, AIFF 44.1 and 48, Dolby 2.0, and uncompressed, no change.
Some DVD duplication houses said it might help if I author the DVD on PC hardware. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

This is a very common issue and a pin in the neck for users and video producers.
WM Player is not an authorised DVD player, Microsft specifically says so in there user manual.
The trouble with many Windows installations are that the file associations are set for WM Player to play every kind of media which is stupid
The DVD drive for each PC will have a dedicated DVD player installed for this specific purpose, you should use that,  examples are; Roxio Media Player - Sonic - Cyberlink Power DVD
On all our DVD case wrappers we have a warning notice that users should  only use the correct player and to clode down WM Player if it launches.
Some DVD duplication houses said it might help if I author the DVD on PC hardware. Any thoughts?
Yes, dont use suppliers who dont know what there talking about.

  • DVD Studio pro won't open

Just upgraded to Leopard and my DVD Studio Pro 3 and compressor won't open. It starts to open and then shuts down. I have repaired permissions, deleted preferences, and re-installed the programs. Everything else at the moment seems to run fine. Any suggestions?

You're not alone. Last week my DVD Studio Pro, which I use all the time, worked perfectly. Then over the weekend I upgraded from 10.3 to 10.5.1 and I can't load it at all. I get the logo box, then it seems like it just hangs. This happens no matter how I try to open a file or launch the program.
The only other program I know I'm having problems with is iDVD, which I turned to in desperation after DVDSP stopped working. Unfortunately, iDVD crashes every time I launch it. I'm an editor, not a computer programmer, so I'm afraid I'm in real trouble here.
I wish I hadn't upgraded. Everything was great until I went to Leopard. This is the first major problem I've had since I switched from PCs to the Mac platform 5 years ago. Hopefully a fix will be as easy as the rest of my Apple experience has been, but I'm extremely frustrated and desperate right now. PLEASE HELP!
