Trouble launching iTune.

Hi everyone, I have recently downloaded iTune 8 but failed to launched the program. Don't know why, I have tried reading the troubleshooting site but did not help me. Can anyone kindly guide me through the process of fixing it. I am currently running on XP SP2 I believe.

You need to give more information.
Have you successfully installed iTunes?
If so what happens when you try to launch iTunes? Is there an error message if so what is it?
iTunes can not work if Quicktime does not work, so check to see if your QUicktime works normally.
If Quicktime works and iTunes gives you an error message then use this method for troubleshooting:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
If there is *no error message* and you can see iTunes.exe running on the processes tab of the Task manger after trying to start iTunes, then post back and I will give you a troubleshooting method.
If Quicktime does not launch, give the error message in full.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them. They are known to casue problems with Quicktime.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

    Hi cheperrumps,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Uninstalling or reinstalling the iTunes application won't affect your music (data) -- but it's always a good idea to have a backup!
The information below will show you how to do that and to troubleshoot your issue with iTunes:

  • HT4623 I'm having trouble launching iTunes Store on my phone since new update.

I'm having trouble launching iTunes on iPhone 4 since new updates.

    Hello Mdimbo1,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with the iTunes Store after updating to iOS 7.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPhone:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the iTunes Store, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPhone:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content

    iTunes: Restoring iOS software

  • Trouble launching itunes

I am getting the following error when I try and launch iTunes: iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "ax.itunes.apple.com". This is my first Mac and the first time i have seen this error. The Mac I have was previously own and have been wiped clean at a Mac Store...
    Any ideas?

In disk utility, notice that there are 2 categories under First Aid: "repair disc permissions", and "repair disc"...you want to choose "repair disc permissions". You might also want to look in Library>Receipts and drag anything labeled "iTunes.pkg" to the trash before you attempt to download and install iTunes 7.1. again.
After the successful install of 7.1, it should over-write any previous installation of iTunes 7.
    Hope this helps!

  • Trouble Launching iTunes on PC

I have a some how similar problem, I was reading your resolution and tried to run the chkdsk it's done successfully, but I'm still facing the same problem. I've been to many forums with similar issues. Initially I followed everything on apple support page with no luck, then went for all suggestions in other forums, downloaded cleanup program and deleted all problem files, uninstalled and reinstalled the last version from apple site with no use. It doesn't give me any error message it just does nothing! And 90% when I restart my PC, I get a message saying that itunes is running and needs to be shut down, so I press end now and restart, I've been doing that all day today with no luck at all. Then when I double click the itunes to open, it says "checking itunes library" but then it stops and nothing happens. I tried plugging my i-touch maybe it will force it to launch, but no response. HELP! Please..

That sounds more like a content-file or library fileissue hanging up the library update Nemo.
Have you worked through the troubleshooting for those two possibilities from the user-account-specific section of the following document?

  • Can't Launch iTunes?  Look out below!

So, I wanted to listen to some iTunes radio at work; my machine is a Dell something-or-other running Windows XP. I downloaded and installed iTunes successfully without a hitch; then I tried to launch it. Much to my dismay, nothing happened! The Windows hourglass would momentarily appear next to the cursor as if the system was trying to launch iTunes, but I simply didn't get anything on the screen. Nothing in the taskbar, no windows, nothing.
Googling around for the issue, I saw a whole bunch of people recommending reinstalling iTunes, reinstalling Windows, messing around with the registry, changing the security settings for iTunes, reconfiguring the firewall, et cetera. I decided that I'd first try to reboot my machine to see if that would help. I began to close all my open programs (Safari, Outlook, and the timecard program for my work), and all of a sudden, I noticed something rather important:
The iTunes Software License Agreement had decided to pop itself up behind all my already-running programs. It had not bothered to give itself a taskbar slot, so I had no idea it was sitting there waiting on my input. Lo and behold, I hit "Agree" to the SLA, and iTunes launched normally.
So, the moral of the story: if you're having trouble launching iTunes on Windows XP, close or minimize all your open applications and see if iTunes' SLA isn't sitting on the desktop, patiently waiting for you to agree to it before iTunes launches. Sometimes it's the simplest of solutions that evade us so thoroughly...

    Hey bcolden,
I would try uninstalling and reinstalling following the directions in here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
This section in particular contains important information in the uninstall process:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.

  • Brand new iPhone- won't connect, won't launch iTunes, can't do anything (??

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help. I just bought my iPhone today at Apple. I walked by AT&T and had an account set up. So, all was well, until I tried to plug it in. Two things have happened.
First, I can't use the phone. When I plug it in, it does not launch iTunes. I've read in other posts to give it 2 minutes and see if it will. I've also read to launch iTunes myself. I've tried both, and nothing. When I launch iTunes it does not show. It doesn't show on my desktop either, but not sure if it should, since it's new to me.
Specifically, the only thing that happens is, I hear a chirp or a tone and the screen lights up when I connect the USB cable. But all it reads is "Slide for emergency" which I did...I guess that's for an emergency call. An icon appears in the middle showing the usb cable and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. I've plugged it in, so not sure whey this is still showing. Also, at the very top it reads "no service" which I guess is due to it not being set up yet. And, there's a little "lock" symbol at the top. That's all I get. I've tried rebooting. Nothing. I've tried repairing permissions, then rebooting. Nothing. I cannot get this thing to connect.
Second, and please hear me out on this one. I've used macs for a while and am generally knowledgeable about them. Also, i've been on this iMac for about 5 months, hooked to the same internet connection. However, for whatever reason, after trying to plug the iPhone in, my internet and web applications have gone to complete crap on me. The WILL NOT connect at high speed...it's unbelievably slow. Insufferable even. Now, i've used this every day and have a really good idea of how it reacts. This is 100% out of the ordinary. As I sit here typing this, this page is STILL trying to complete loading. Something is clearly wrong here. Some pages won't load altogether. I've tried resetting my modem (disconnecting, unplugging). Performance was exactly the same. And, as mentioned, i repaired permissions. So, it's a little more than coincidental to me this happened immediately after running into troubles with my iphone connection. It's like the iphone somehow messed my computer up.
Sorry for the long post. I hope you can understand that I'm very frustrated. It appears that, not only can I not get my phone to work, but it seems i've messed my computer up in the process somehow. Any suggestions? Please. Thanks for your help.

    Hi all-
For anyone reading this, I've solved both problems, and figured i'd post in case it could help anyone else.
First, the iPhone issue. I figured it out by reading another post here. Basically, in the start up items of your "accounts" in system preferences, there's an item called iTunesHelper. I had that unchecked. I can't remember why...I guess b/c I believed I wasn't using it. Anyway, I had read that that could be a problem, so I checked it, rebooted, and low and behold....the iPhone connected and launched iTunes. I'm now up and running. Phew.
As for the internet sluggishness, I don't know what was causing it. But, I just booted from the Leopard dvd, ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions as well as verify disk. Everything checked out. Rebooted on Macintosh HD, and everything was fine. It's as if it never happened. Very weird. But it's fixed.
Hope that maybe helps someone in someway...if your iPhone's not launching iTunes, try checking the iTunesHelper app in your startup items. Worked for me.

  • TS1717 Having trouble running iTunes version 11.0.2 on a Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1.  Keep getting an error message "the software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly..." reinst

Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1).  I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly.  Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?  I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired.  Please reinstall iTunes..."  I have done this a number of times to no avail.

I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • My iMac crashes when i launch iTunes

    Hi,
Since yesterday night, my iMac 27" under Mountain Lion crashes everytime i launch iTunes on my session. The icon bounces a few times as it always does, and then nothing. I can't do anything more on my iMac, even the ALT+Apple+ESC isn't working, then the computer freezes.
It was working perfectly the day before, I didn't use it since and now i have this issue.
I've downloaded iTunes 11, but it's still the same... And the fact is that iTunes is working fine on another session, it crashes only on mine. Once crashed, I have to hard reboot my iMac to make it work again.
Do you have an idea of where the problem can come from, and how to solve it please?
    Thank you,
    KeteMeteK

    Thank you for your answer,
I have some (bad) news about my system : Now I have the same troubles when I try to open my Downloads folder, my Documents folder, my Finder, or to access my HDD...
I have no clue what's going on, can't be a virus because I'm running OSX? Could my HDD be damaged?
    Thanks...

  • I am having trouble downloading itunes onto my computer

i am having trouble downloading itunes onto my computer

... doublechecking to see if I'm reading your tags right, Sexy ... are you getting an error 2 when you go to launch iTunes after the install?
If so, is it saying that Apple Application Support cannot be found?
What Windows OS are you using? XP, Vista or 7?

  • Trouble exiting iTunes

It's less trouble, and more of a nuisance. But whenever I exit iTunes, a small window pops up after 10+ seconds, saying "One or more applications are using the iTunes scripting interface. Are you sure you want to quit?" and it then gives a 20 second countdown (after which it closes). How do I see what's using the iTunes scripting, and make this pop up cease from repeating?

I have the same nuisance on my new HP PC. I have multiple users on the PC, and when one screen is running iTunes the other user(s) will get the dialog box that they cannot cannot open iTunes because another user is already running it. However, they are not trying to launch iTunes at the time. So, something else has to be running that is invoking iTunes. I am trying to kill various processes, but I cannot find one that cures this problem. Alos, I do not have a Logitech MX-500 keyboard, as I have seen in other posts. Looking for ideas as well.
