Trouble locating capture deck

Hi everyone.
I'm using my camera to capture some footage, but I can't get it to work. The message I get says that my system configuration might have changed, or that my camera might be disconnected or turned off. my camera is connected and turned on. this is my first time using my new mbp to capture, and the weird thing is, that the onboard camera is on, and my image is in the preview window.
I'd really appreciate any advice I can get.
thanks

Is View > External Video set to All Frames?
If so, you might need to Shut Down and power down, then power up and boot up again.

  • Trouble locating receipt number on purchase

I recently purchased a computer monitor from Best Buy and was looking to register it with the manufacturer (AOC). At their product registration page, an "Invoice/Receipt Number" is needed. I am having trouble locating this on my receipt. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello Joseph-S,
Thank you for purchasing your computer monitor from Best Buy, and thank you too for visiting our forum!  I'll be happy to help you today.
While I was not able to locate your purchase history using the email address you used when registering for the forum, it sounds like you do have your copy of the receipt still.  The number you are looking for is referred to as the Customer Service Pin Number on our receipts, and can be found near the bottom of the receipt below the payment information.
That should do the trick for you!  Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
    Best regards,

  • Why is my mac is having trouble locating the wi-fi signal

Why is my mac having trouble locating wi0fi signal when all other devices can?

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?
              PHY Mode
              Channel
              Security
              Signal/Noise or RSSI
              Transmit Rate
Please do not post the BSSID, as that information is private.
Now hold down the option key again and select
               ▹ System Information... ▹ Network ▹ Wi-Fi
Compare the two-letter Country Code with the ISO code for your country. Does it match? The code X0 means that the country couldn't be determined. The code X3 means South America, not otherwise specified.

  • What type of Capture Deck should I get?

Well I've been capturing footage from my Panasonic DVX-100a Camera for a while now into final cut, and I'm told that I am a fool for doing so (head damge to the camera), so...what type of capture deck should I get? I have about $500 to spend. Any websites or brand names that you could give me would be great thanks!

I've gone off on this too many times, so I'll cut myself off as shortly as I can, but since you asked...
I think a retail pricetag of ~ $1675.00 USD is excessive for a glorified VCR, yes. Sure they're handy and hardy, do timecode, A/D conversion, etc.. yes. Great. So do $200.00 cams. I'm guessing the DSR-11 costs about 100-150 USD to make. Compare it so say a Sony PS3 as far as components, R&D costs, the whopping avertisement cost of ZERO, etc, yes they're big fat sham. I understand the history behind the VTR and that it's target audience was primarily industrial/commercial/professional prior to the boom in consumer level NLEditing popularity. But now that we've got firestores and P2 cards and everyone and their brother has a computer with Vegas and a DV camera it's high time that Sony and others get with the program and drop prices on outdated technology.
One always should pay a premium for any high end professional quality piece of machinery- but the DSR-11 in particular isn't THAT solid. Compare it to the DSR-30 in build quality and it's night and day. Then again the DSR-30 cost about 2x the DSR-11 when in production. (still doesn't weaken my argument at how costly the entry level machine is) They just aren't worth as much as they cost period, but due to a controlled market have stayed pricey. Someone should come along and sell a DSR-11 equivalent for 600 bucks, still make a handy profit, and force prices down.
Remember.. you asked. Sorry regardless for the rant.
(and I've heard the JVC VCR/combo is pretty weak before it gets mentioned. I mean a true equivalent.) The JVC thing should be sold for 300.

  • My DVCAM capture deck isn't capturing.

I have tried everything with my capture deck (Sony DSR-11) and nothing is working. I have tried turning off my computer and then turning my deck on, and then opening final cut, it won't read the deck though. I recently reloaded my FCP6, and I haven't captured anything since I reloaded it, is there something I need to do to set the deck up?
    -Thanks

No doubt there is something satisfying about tracking down and fixing and issue that is causing problems in a surgical manner. Lately I've come to question that approach. Reading post after post from people who are having problems because - a) they don't comprehend how their computer works as a system - which leads them to ... b) not pay any attention to the upgrade paths of their software which has often dire consequences because ... c) they have done zero maintenance on their machines or junk it up with all sorts of useless gegaws really makes me wonder about the efficacy of this path.
I'm coming to believe in the modified brute force approach: once you have verified the problem is nothing simple like a permissions/ preference issue, erase the disk and do a clean installation. It will take less real time than futzing around for days trying to get things to 'sort of' work - and you have a pristine installation.
    Not for everyone I agree.

  • Having trouble locating files since updating the operating system

I recently did the recommended system update on OS X Yosemite - now 10.10.1. I am having trouble locating updated files. In the old system, when I updated an excel worksheet, it appeared at the top of my "my applications" list with bold print listing it as updated today. Today I updated a bunch of files and they were all hidden 3/4 of the way down my list of files - I guess in the location of the original file, back amongst files from early 2014/late 2013. And now the type face which says "today" is just as pale as the rest of the dates. Is there anyway to change this? Is there anyway to go back to the prior version? I spent 2 minutes looking for a file and then had to spend more than a minute looking for the one right next to it when I needed to find it, even after knowing the general location to look!
Thank you if anyone can help.  Barbara

    Thank you that helps.
There are a lot of other things I'd like to ask but I guess I'll look at the manual and see if I can figure them out thanks a lot!

  • I have trouble locating my complete I-Tunes Library after signing in to Store. Suggestions?

I have trouble locating my complete I-Tunes Library after signing in to Store. I can find items I've purchased but not other items added. Any Suggestions? Thx!

Unless you purchased a subscription to iTunes Match you will only have access to previous qualifying purchases. That's why you should backup your library.

  • I am having trouble locating past emails through searches, any suggestions ?

I am having trouble locating past emails through search on my ipad2 , any suggestions ?

    A couple of suggestions.
Go to settings, and take a look at how many mesages you are set for.  When you get that number, the pad will start deleting older messages as new ones arrive.
If you are using a pop account, the older messages will still be on your main computer, if you have not deleted them.  Look there.
If you are on an i map account, set up some subfolders for your key items.  I believe that storage is permanant and is more easily searchable.

  • Trouble locating files after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Just upgraded from Leopard to Mountain Lion. I backed up everything from Leopard once, then backed it all up again once Mountain Lion was installed. Now, I'm having trouble locating all my file folders... everything seems to be lumped into "All My Files". How do I restore everything to their normal spots... so I can see all the normal folders?

When you say you backed up and then backed up again, what does that mean?
Hopefully you knew that Time Machine will make changes going from Snow Leopard to Lion and above and you would have two sets (keep the old)
Ideal is to do CLEAN install on a newly formatted drive and use Setup Assistant to import or migrate apps and documents.
Another, to do a clone (CCC is great as it will create a Lion/ML Recovery partition) and let you keep dual booting for a month or until eve rything is WORKING and updated.
Finally, most learn that with the Mac Pro, isolate all the data documents media and library follders to a non-system disk drive. Handy. Better performance. Leave your home library on the boot drive, which unfortunately Apple saw fit to make hidden by default. I like to dig in and delete caches so now I am more likely to use CCleaner which works fine on Mac as it did on Windows, safe and no issues.
Never update over your only backup set. Not at first, maybe not ever, and always have multiple redundant backup methods (like CCC and Time Machine at minimum).
The files should still be on your backup sets if you were CAREFUL and did it right. And planned ahead a bit.

  • Capture Deck Fun

    hi all,
capturing dv tapes using a sony dvcam deck. everything is going swimmingly until i started batch capturing a clip that i logged and the deck refused to stop when the out point happened, spilling into the next section which was logged separately. Does this make sense to anyone? just to be clear other sections before this have been logged and captured (batch) fine. just for some odd reason this section refuses to quit when told to. any ideas? my quick fix is going to be to capture now the remaining segment of the tape and use QT to create separate media and drag them in and log that way. i'd rather not do that though, can anyone think of a reason why this is happening?
    thanks
    Austin

    Austin,
10 seconds of pre and post roll are more than enough.
4 seconds pre roll and 2 seconds postroll should be more than enough.
You are on the safe side using that. (that is speaking about DV. Betacam SP or digital betacam might want to have 5 to 6 seconds of preroll to be safe)
What I suspect to be the case is that you missed some TC breaks during logging.
In User Preferences you can select 'On Timecode Breaks: MAKE NEW CLIP'.
This should stop capturing when an extra TC break is encountered and a new capture of the rest of logged footage is automatically started then.
If it is really annoying you can consider to dub the tape to a another tape with fresh TC and let that tape be your master.
@scottieB: I doubt whether the pros like time of day. There are situation where time of day is desired, but most of the time it is not. And most pros do know it isn't and do know what troubles it can give when capturing.

edit: As said earlier in this thread. Under menu: Final Cut Pro > Audio Video Settings > tab Device Control Presets you can EDIT (or DUPLICATE when your preset is locked) the selected preset and in the lower right corner of that Device Control Preset Editor you can specify the pre and postroll for the deck...
    (end of edit)

  • Trouble HDV capturing from a new XL-H1

I'm having trouble capturing from my XL-H1. The footage was shot in HDV 24fps and I'm trying to capture it to my G5 with a new version of FCS 5.1.
The machine seems to have trouble finding the in point and pops an error most times. When it doesd find the in point it cruzes right past the out point. When attempting to capture it also pixilates a frame or two about avery second and the video displays very choppy(during attempts to capture).
I noticed in the batch capture window, the settings say HDV, 1440X1080i and 29.97fps. and There donen't appear to be a way to set that to 24fps. Am I missing somthing?
    G5 Mac OS X (10.3.7)

No. I just haven't been able to successfully capture from that camera natively. I captured using my capture card...converting it to the more manageable DVCPRO HD. But I wanted HDV footage so that I could see what it was like. But I couldn't capture it.
FCP 5.1.2 and up should have all the HDV 1080p options. Make sure you click SHOW ALL in the EASY SETUP window. There are 1080p60, 1080p30 and 1080p24.
Other people have captured no problem, and yet more have my issue of not being able to. I could control the deck, but got nothing. Let us know how you fare.

  • Recomended VHS capture decks

I have been editing video for 3 years now (mainly mini dv from a Sony VX2100) but i'd like to get a VHS deck so i can edit some old home videos to dvd/web.  Anybody have prior experience with VHS decks?

You'll probably get some used consumer one fr JVC with some kind of TBC function. Their HRS-7000 - 9800 model should have them. It's a must since old VHS tapes are likely to have major dropouts and tracking problems. W/ out digital TBC, the capture will abort on it own because of illegal video in digital video. This is especially true of there's nothing recorded on it or excessive tracking errors on tapes recorded at LP or EP. I've done almost 1,000 hours of legacy VHS archive capture and it can't be done w/ TBC technology.
The TBC (time base corrector)  also helps to clean up the bad chroma problems associated w/ legacy composite color under system w/ a limit of 3.58 Mhz. In otherwords, the red color smearing will be a minimal. Quite an amazing difference in quality.
Holy moly, that's really old school stuff but there was a time in history in the mid 80-90s where it was the only viable technology there.

  • Mac Pro (Early 2008) freezes, reboots to recovery system, trouble locating startup disk

I have two issues which may or may not be related with my Mac Pro.  First, off and on for several months is has been frozen when waking from sleep.  I can hit a key and see my desktop with the windows I left open, but I get the spinning beach ball and the time is typically several hours behind.  The only way I can get it to start is to restart from the power button.  This typically happens overnight when my computer has been asleep for a long time.  Sometimes I hear the fan run while the computer is asleep and I don't know if that is related. I've tried switching from Firefox to Chrome to see if that was the problem since I typically have a few tabs open on Firefox when it freezes, but that does not solve the problem.  The next step I plan to try is to get a can of compressed air and clean the fan and check if the video card air intake might be clogged, based on information I have read in various forums.  Does anyone have other suggestions for things to try to eliminate the freezing?  Another suggestion I read was to get a new logic board battery installed but I hate to lug this thing into an Apple store unless I really have to.  Most of the time I'm comfortable fixing things on my own.
The second issue is that when I reboot after shutting down the computer with the power button, it does not always load the startup disk.  Sometimes I get the recovery system instead, and if I try disk repair, restore from backup, or the startup disk option from the apple menu, it cannot locate the startup disk.  Usually after a few tries, I can restart it and get my desktop, but I'm not sure how long that will work.  I hoped that resetting the NVRAM would take care of this but it has not fixed the issue.  When I do disk repair, it says the drive is fine.  I've also used idefrag to clean up the drive.  I'm thinking my hard drive might be about to die and I should just get a new one, but I don't want to spend the money if that is not the issue.  I have 83 GB free on the drive so space should not be an issue.
Any suggestions on fixing either or both of these issue would be very much welcome!  I need to make this computer last at least a couple more years.
    Specs:
    Mac Pro early 2008
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  8 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
