Trouble making the iPod classic manual/user guide open in PDF..

I'm just trying to learn the basics--like how to stop the iPod from running an audiobook until I tell it to; how to make it stop; etc. But when I click on 'User Guide' or 'Manual', the page goes black and Preview, which usually shows my PDF's, doesn't open with the manual.
Anybody know why?
Thanks,
Karen

Thanks, planb. It took me a bit to translate 'right click' since I'm on a MacBook Pro, but I discovered I need to press the 'Option' key when I click the link to the User Guide/Manual. It does then download, enabling me to open it on Preview and save it.
Appreciate the help.
Karen

Hello, my name is Ed. I'm with all my Ipod, I have (4) they all keep freezing up on me when I play my devices. But my Ipod Touch I don't have this problem. On my classic I'll hold down menu botton on the wheel. But thing happen, I'm tired of letting battery go dead and recharge it, just to freeze up again. I made it work one time by holding down the menu button. That's  about it. I need help.

PS I don't know operation system on my ipod classic, but on my mac book pro i am using (11.0.2) my mac os x (10.6.8). So, I try to take a quess at my os my classic

Holding down the center/select button and the menu button will reboot your ipod. See if that helps. Also, I'd recommend something else- I had nothing but trouble with my ipod classic until I spent $20 to get Mac OS Mountain Lion. It did what you said and sometimes wouldnt play, or wouldnt power on...
Try rebooting your ipod and let me know what happens and maybe in the future obtain Mountain Lion to aide your ipod in functionality.
    Good luck!

  • After the past two iTunes updates, I cannot manage my 30g iPod classic manually

I cannot delete songs off my iPod or Name playlists and iTunes is only offering the option of syncing my iTunes library and erasing all the songs I already have on my iPod. What can I do?

    Hey joykorley,
I'd recommend taking a look at the following article:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1202
With automatic mode, iTunes will delete all songs and playlists on your device, and then will copy the music library and playlists from the new home computer to your device.
This doesn't sound like what you want - if you want to keep the music library on your device, but copy songs or playlists from the music library on the second computer, click Cancel when the dialog box appears, and then set your device to manual mode.
The article has detailed steps on how to set the iPod to manual mode.
    Cheers,
    David

The operating system and space reserved for the iPod to carry out its tasks, such as remembering what you have played and how many times you've played it (this information is Synced back to your iTunes Library at each Sync.) There is also a slight discrepancy in the way that storage size is calculated, which accounts for some of that 12GB.
    rockindon wrote:

    You cannot.
You still have 148GB for storing your music, vidoes and Podcasts. That's quite a lot.
My music library is currently 115.78GB and is a mixture of songs at various Bit Rates. (The higher the Bit Rate, usually, the better the quality.) It has more than 17,000 songs and will play (non-stop) for 58 days.
If your Library becomes (or already is) larger than this, it is possible to set iTunes to automatically manage the content, by removing (for example) recently played songs (except any specific ones you always want on your iPod) and then to put back onto the iPod songs that haven't been played for a while.
If you would like any detail on how this is done, let us know.
In the meantime, enjoy your iPod.
Create your Library of music and - my advice is - to use Sync to add everything to your iPod. In other words, do not use Manually Manage. In the long run, Sync is easier. You can still fully control what is on the iPod using Sync. Again, if you need help, this is the place to ask. Generally speaking, the more points a user has, the more people feel that have been helped by that user.

  • Why is the iPod classic so slow?

I was playing with the iPod classic at the Apple store and it ran slow. The iPod touch runs fast. My old iPod video (5th gen) runs slow. Why doesn't the iPod classic run as fast as the iPod touch or not any faster than my old iPod video? I thought Apple cared about a fast easy user experience like on their iPhone. Don't people complain about Android phones running slow? The iPod classic is so sluggish it's annoying. Why do they want their iPod classics to run slower than an old Zune?

Well, it could just be that the processor in the Classic doesn't like the particular video you were using, although I did base my answer on your first post, which said I was playing with the iPod classic at the Apple store... . As far as I know, in-store demo videos are not included on purchased iPods. So your decision to purchase was presumably based on your tests of it in-store.
It's still a matter of "you makes your choice - you pays your money".
My choice was to stick with my 160GB Classic for it's capacity, but to buy an iPod Touch in addition, for it's other abilities (including widescreen for videos, compared to the Classic). I realise that's not an affordable option for many people. But it was my solution.
Maybe that's why Apple provide choices.

  • Everything about the IPOD Classic 160 GB Battery

    Dear All,
Just want to know how the battery is connected and placed inside the ipod classic 160GB model, can it be replaced by a user without using a soldering iron.Is it attached with a adhesive ?
    Kindly discuss.
    Thanks

With the new ipods, the issue isn't the battery connection so much as it is the shell itself. It is now extremely difficult to open the ipod, as they have metal catches around the inside of the case. From what I have read, the battery and HD are still user changable, IF you can get in without damaging the outer shell, which is much easier to do with the new design. This is also why most of the online battery replacement companies are still not showing as being able to change out the HD/battery on the classics.

  • Is the ipod classic compatible with icloud

Is the Ipod Classic compatible with ICLOUD

No, the iPod classic has no means of connecting to Wi-Fi, thus making it incompatible with iCloud.

  • Open Request to Apple: Time to update the iPod Classic

I do not have a question.  What I have is a request.
For years, I, like many people, have relied on MP3s for my music.  For the longest time, I thought an MP3 playing through my car stereo sounded great.  However, times have changed and so have stock car stereos.
I recently purchased a used 2008 Volvo S80 and the stock stereo system sounds unbelievable.  Sure, there will be people who will laugh when they read that statement, but it is the truth.  When I heard how awesome it sounded, I loaded an MP3 and an Apple Lossless version of my favorite song onto my iPhone and listened to both.  The difference was so shocking that I have been redoing my entire collection in Apple Lossless.
I have read several reviews about Apple Lossless songs on the iPod Classic.  The only reason I even considered the iPod Classic was because it has a huge amount of storage.  However, I read about Apple Lossless songs skipping because the cache in the iPod Classic is not very large.  I also read that the DACs in the iPod Classic don't hold a candle to the DACs in the iPhones.
I understand Apple seems to be focused on making extremely small electronics.  I have no problem with that.  However, a revamp of the iPad Classic is in order.  Yes, I realize the iPod Touch offers improved DACs and can likely handle Apple Lossless songs without skipping.  Regardless, having a max capacity of 64 GB doesn't cut it.  Additionally, I don't need the fancy touch screen, camera and apps to play music.  That is why I have an iPhone.  Next, Apple Lossless songs are HUGE and for good reason.  An Apple Lossless album is even bigger.
My iPhone is maxed out.  The time has come.  Surely with Apple's cash, there is a supplier who can offer increased flash storage for the iPod.  FLAC support would also be nice for those who don't want to be locked into Apple Lossless (which doesn't work well with other software).

    Hello sevendustweb,
Apple does not read these posts or threads.  You would be better off leaving them feedback on this page.

  • Why not improve the iPod Classic?

Why do not improve the iPod Classic from the point of view of speed? The would be enough to put a chip designed specifically for the iPod Classic or an A5 chip that expedite both the iPod. Just a little, and you could even do that more subtle. do something

Since all of us here are only end users like yourself, nobody here would know of such information. Only Apple knows and according to the terms of use of these forums, we are not allowed to speculate. Sorry.

  • Why no FM tuner for the iPod Classic?

    Hi
I've been considering making the big conversion from PC to Mac for a while now (heard good things from my sister and suffered through Vista for 4 years) BUT my conversion hinges upon my music collection which is currently 18gb (and the majority of it transferred from my CD collection). Therefore I'm only thinking of an iPod Classic. My current mp3 player (Creative 30gb dino that's not compatible with Windows 7) has an FM tuner which is essential. The iPod Classic does not.
Why doesn't the iPod Classic have a built-in FM tuner like those miniscule you'll-lose-it-in-the-wash iPod Nanos? Are they just trying to keep the Classic classic? Would putting the FM tuner in a Classic not fit, even though it fits in 16gb Nanos?
I won't ask if they're going to put in one because that's speculation and from what I've read violates the terms of questions one can ask here.

You might still be able to find Apple's iPod FM Radio Remote accessory, or a third party alternative.

  • Does iTunes 12 work with the iPod Classic ?

Does iTunes 12 work with the iPod Classic ?
Or do I need to stay with iTunes 11.4 ?
    Thanks

Thanks, ( you just got your first 10 points, congratulations! )
Ever since the iPod Classic was discontinued I have stopped purchasing music on iTunes. So I did not have a compelling reason to upgrade.
I have heard others having troubles and I got concerned that perhaps Apple had dropped support for the Classic on iTunes 12 because it was discontinued.
    Thanks for helping.

Hello to all my readers.I am still using my Apple G4 1.25 Ghz MDD running Leopard 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.3 installed. Can I use an Phone 4s with iOS 5 with this set up? I have read the iPhone iOS 5 user guide and it appears that I can but is anybody actually doing it ? My current phone is a £10 Nokia and I've neither wish nor cash to spend more than a grand upgrading to an intel based machine (at the moment) ! Regards to you all.

If you can find an iPhone running iOS5 and those are the specs for iOS5, there is no reason it should not work.
If you want a more current version of iOS or a more current device, a Windows computer is always an option at significantly less cost.
Granted, there is no requirement to have a computer to use an iPhone.
