Trouble Matching Color Between Ps and Dw

I've generated a simple shadow around my page design in
Photoshop (the shadow blends into the background color via a soft
gradient). I've imported a small section of the shadow into
Dreamweaver and placed it in a special table cell to duplicate the
affect in Dw.
This is very simple. I'm using web-safe colors (#336699) both
in Ps and Dw. All artwork was created on my Mac Pro running Leopard
(10.5.2).
When I test my design in Firefox it looks perfect. When I
copy the site folder over to Dw on my Windows XP machine and test
in IE it also looks perfect. It also looks perfect when I open the
design up in Dw on the Windows machine (in the document window).
HOWEVER ... the colors do NOT match in the Dw document window
on my Mac. Nor do they match when I test the page using Safari on
my Mac.
I'm perplexed. I'm somewhat new to Dw, but I've been using Ps
and Gl for a long time. I think I know how to match colors in the
workflow. I recently upgraded my Mac to 10.5.2 and I'm wondering if
this is a bug?
One other thing ... the pull-down menus in the Dw color
selection areas aren't always functional. Sometimes the color
picking windows will close leaving the pull-down menus
unresponsive. You have to hit the escape key to exit. If you are
very careful you can get the menus to work using the middle mouse
button (I'm using a wireless Mighty Mouse).
Can anyone offer me guidance ... or has anyone else
experienced these problems in Dw? TIA.

In Photoshop, are you working in RBG or CMYK mode? RGB output
is the mode
for web graphics. What type of graphic are you using when you
Save to Web
As - gif, jpg or png? Jpg and png will give you better color
matching
control than gif. Gif is capable of producing only 216 web
safe colors (256
minus about 40 colors which are reserved by the various
operating systems or
are not rendered by browsers). Jpg and png can produce 16
million (24 bit)
Truecolor. If you are attempting to color match your web
graphics with hex
#color codes for backgrounds, then your best bet is to use
jpg or png.

• Trouble using AirPlay between iMac and AppleTV

I'm running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I'm having trouble using AirPlay between iMac and AppleTV (2nd Gen).  It used to work fine, but for some reason it just stopped responding.  I can see my media on my iMac from AppleTV and I can see AppleTV from my iMac when attempting to use AirPlay.  However, when I try to pull or push media from my iMac to AppleTV it just stalls and never loads.  AirPlay works fine from my iPhone and iPad with AppleTV - it's limited to my iMac only.
I'm using a Netgear R7000 wireless router and a Netgear AC120 WiFi Extender and as such, I have 4 available wireless networks (2 from the router and 2 from the extender / 2 - 2.4 GHz and 2 - 5 GHz).  My internet access is great and my network performance is good across the board.  All of my software/firmware is up to date (iMac, AppleTV and router/extenders). I've tried all combinations (mixing/matching) all of my wireless networks between devices (iMac/AppleTV) - nothing makes a difference (again, AirPlay works fine between my mobile devises/AppleTV).  Netgear Genie has been making changes to my network settings as new firmware has been installed in both the router and extender.  I'm guessing there is something screwy going on with the network settings on the iMac, but I can't figure it out.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

I'm glad you got it all working. Out of interest, how do you (or your son) connect to the internet now? Is it just a dial-up connection? If it is, I am sure you know that, even if you get the Apple TV to share the connection, the speed will seriously limit the use of many of the Apple TV's features.
The Airport Extreme is a great router but you will need a DSL or cable modem as well as it won't connect to the internet without one. There are many great (and cheaper!) combined modem/routers available if your son wants to get a high-speed network up and running at lower cost. Any other computers, phones, games consoles etc that you may have in the house can then all connect easily.
I hope that I have helped a little and I will look out for future posts in case I can help again.

• Matching color between a video and a photo in PS CC

Hi,
I am trying to match the color between a Video and a photo in Photoshop CC.
This works ok with the color matching tool. Image > Adjustments > match color.
However, it only matches the color of the 1st frame and no the whole video.
Is there a way to use the color matching tool to apply the adjustments to the whole video?
Thanks for the help
Regards.

Thanks for the quick reply
I don’t think I explained myself very well.
I want the video to match the Photo. Not to apply adjustments to the video and photos at the same time.
The Photos (raw) and video were taken at the same time with the same camera.
I have worked on the photos in adobe camera raw and saved them as tiffs.
Now I have opened up the video and tiffs in Photoshop and would like to match the new colors from the tiffs to the Video file.
When I use the match color tool, the Video and Tiff are the same color.
However Photoshop only matches the 1st frame of the video, the rest of the video is left in the original color.
My question is, how can I get the Match color tool to apply the color setting to the whole video?
So that the whole video is the same color as the Tiffs, not just the 1st frame.
Regards.

• Need help with color between LR and PS and from PS to desktop

Trouble with PS5 and LR4... when I go to "edit in Photoshop" from Lr... it opens and doesn't match the image in LR (colors)... same goes when saving edited image back to LR... also, when Saving from PS to desktop, it looks terrible unless I "Save for internet" ... how can I get this to all match? Both are selected SRGB

If there is a difference between Lightroom and Photoshop that is in almost all cases an indication of a bad monitor profile. (a more remote possibility is the video card driver, specifically OpenGL, which would affect Photoshop only).
The conversion from source to monitor profile should yield identical results if the monitor profile is good. But since the source color space is different, one conversion may go bad but not the other. It also happens that applications simply react differently to bad profiles.
The Windows desktop is not color managed and a difference is expected.

• Matching Color Between 2 Images

Selective Color Matching
Open the image with color you like.
Make sure your Info Palette is visible.
Select the Eyedropper Tool.
Look at the Options Bar, and set the sample size to 5 x 5. This will give you a good average color from a sample size larger than just one individual pixel.
Hold the Shift key, and you'll see that the cursor changes. This signifies that you're ready to lay down a Color Sampler. Find a good spot to sample the color you want, and click there. You may lay down up to 4 Color Samplers in each image.
Look at your Info Palette and you'll see that it has expanded to now include a pane (or panes) that display(s) the color component make-up of the spot (or spots) where you dropped a Color Sampler (or Samplers). In that pane you'll see a tiny little eyedropper icon, right below the "#1". Click and hold for a drop-down menu. Change the read-out to CMYK. This won't change the color-mode of your image, so don't worry about that. It just makes the following steps more intuitive.
Write down the values for C, M, Y, and K.
Open the second image in which you want to match the color to a similar color in the first.
Now, for one of the most important parts of the process:
Make an accurate selection of the areas you want to adjust. Save it as an Alpha Channel (Select---»Save Selection...New Channel) just to be on the safe side, and save your changes to the document.
Using the Eyedropper again, Shift-Click to drop a Color Sampler in the new image, in an area that is similar in brightness as the sampler in Image 1.
Change the readout of this new sampler to CMYK.
With your object still selected, go to "Image---»Adjustments---»Selective Color..."
Choose a color in the drop-down menu that is as close as possible to the color of the area you want to adjust.
Now, while you keep an eye on the Color Sampler pane in the Info Palette, adjust the sliders in the Selective Color dialogue. You'll see the numbers change in the Info Palette. The numbers to the left of the slashes (/) are the "before" readouts, the numbers to the right of the slashes are the "After" readouts.
Play around adjusting these Selective Color sliders until the "After" numbers for the second image Color Sampler match (or get really close to) the C, M, Y and K values you wrote down for the Color Sampler in the first image.
Sometimes you'll need to work the sliders for more than one of the Selective Color drop-down menu colors. I usually start with the drop-down choice of "Neutrals," because it often allows me to do most of the correction there...lots of bang-for-the-buck. Also, you may need to make Selective Color adjustments, hit "OK" and then call the Selective Color dialogue up a secondperhaps even a thirdtime.
Just match the "After" numbers for Image 2 to the Before numbers that you wrote down for Image 1.
There are other methods for doing this, but this is one of the easiest ways.
Keep in mind that the changes you make are destructive (i.e.: not reversible after you save and close the document). Because I trust my abilities, I know what I can get away with, and I'm usually satisfied with the results. If you have any worries about making permanent changes, just duplicate the layer you want to work on so you can go back to the original color if you need to.
When you're finished, you remove the Color Samplers by again selecting the Eyedropper tool and (Shift+Option) [Shift+ALT] clicking (see the scissors cursor?) on the Color Sampler icon (s) in the image window.

• Matching, syncing between iTunes and iPhone

I am "lucky" to be one of the new iPhone 5 owners, after switching back from two years with android. Part of the reason for my switch was iTunes Match, which has been a constant confusing dissappintment.
After several iPhone restores, lengthy phone calls to Apple support (who had no idea what to do), I am still stuck as to what is going wrong with my iPhone and its syncing between itunes match and my local (mac) itunes.
Essentially, I understood (both from reading online and apple support) that I could turn match OFF on my iphone, and then sync playlists accross from my Mac. Then, I could turn my iPhone's Match ON, and it would warn me about replacing the library, but it would allow me to play my synced playlists offline, and stream the rest of my cloud music. I was somehow using this method for a few days, before today's sync changed things again. (I didnt change settings)
At this current stage, itunes match is enabled, and my computer has just finished syncing with my iphone. My iphone says it has no locally stored songs, the computer says my iphone has 19 locally stored songs (with match enabled.) I have tried various ways of syncing, enabling and disabling match on my iphone, and no combination i have tried has successfully synced my data accurately.
Side note: Apple also didnt know why after the second sync between my iphone and mac the mac song playcounts changed dramatically. (ie: from 120 plays per song to 700+ plays - And i hadnt played them obviously).
Note: All software is up to date. Screenshot here http://cl.ly/image/0y162Q2C1c2w shows status after fresh wifi-sync. (incorrect values for free space etc)
tl;dr
I am trying to sync playlists from my mac to my iPhone 5, and then have my iphone stream/(download) the rest of the music I dont sync across through iTunes Match.
It seems there are some bugs in iTunes/iOS 6 to do with syncing. iTunes displays different information about my iPhone, to what is in the iPhone's settings menu. EG: Itunes says there are 19 songs on my iphone, my iphone says there are no songs on it.
This sounds like a bit of a ramble, but its one of the more important issues/problems i am having with the new iPhone. Hope someone can help, or has advice!

What you are trying to do is clear but iTunes Match / IOS 6 does not work that way.
You can sync playlists from computer to iDevice using the options under the music tab for your iDevice on the computer.  This will provide a local copy on the iDevice of each Song included in each Playlist selected for sync.
With iTunes Match / IOS 6, as Songs are played from the iCloud (ie not those already downloaded in playlists) IOS 6 does in fact 'download' the Song to a local cache.  In theory this cache should be managed by IOS 6 such that it does not overload your iDevice memory - Apple have not chosen to share exactly how this operates.
Given your notes above would suggest starting from a refresh restore on the iPhone 5 with all synchronisation performed afresh and iTunes Match switched on.

• Matching up between pdf and indesign

How can I match up a table chart in an indesin file with the one in the pdf to check if there's any error on the indesign one?
(which would be like proofreading done by a computer)
The design of each table chart is totally different from each other; the pdf file is actually extracted from a excel file.
I came across this problem while doing an artwork for a brochure.
I had a specificaton table chart for the product in an excel file and I made an indesign file based on it,
but because the proofreading was done by a 'human' not a computer, there were several errors unfound until printing thousands of it.
And I had to print the whole brochure again.
So I thought if there is a function that can match up between the two,
there won't be any problems or mistakes like this afterwards.
Does this kind of function exist? or would there be an alternative solution?

This script acts as an overlay proofing method that may help: http://kasyan.ho.com.ua/compare_two_documents.html

Solved!

Hello,
the correlation score is based on pixel intensities where as the score of the geometric match considers also the geometry features. See the NI Vision Concepts (Geometric matching -> In-depth discussion).

• Matching colors - 20" display and PB G4

I'm having a hard time calibrating my 20 inch ACD and my powerbook G4 15". I've used Spyder's calibrator and Optical, and have tried Apple's own calibrator (included in the Displays preference) but the color on the 20" ACD is significantly warmer/more yellow than what I see on my PB and on the prints I'm getting from an Epson 2200. Basically, I'd love to manually adjust the colors on the ACD to match what I'm seeing on the PB and from my printer, but that seems impossible.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
David

David,
If you are serious about calibration among multiple LCDs (RGB) and a printer (CMYK), then you should buy: Pantone's ColorVision® Spyder2 for $170 USD.

• How to match colors between 2 photos?

Hi everyone!
I'm faced with a problem here. I made myself a Grey/Color card, having it developped at the local photo store. I know it's not the best solution, but I couldn't get my hand on a 100$ ColorChecker, I'm broke! (20¢ a picture is quite a good deal!)
Here is the default file I used for my photos:
And once I take my picture (Ok, this one is from my laptop screen, but it's only for example purpose) it loks like this
Is there an easy / quick way to have the color match? Is it possible to make an easy color profile, since the colors are pure (W,18% Gray,Bk,C,M,Y) in my default picture? Even if I try to have the white balance on, or try to modify the hue and saturation, the results in the CMY aren't matching. Since we have a color we know the value, it should be easier to fix it, no?
If you could point me in any (free) direction to solve my problem, that would be grand!
Thanks!

... I'm taking pictures for my GF, who makes jewels. All those beads, pearls and cristals have little tint in them, and being so small, it makes it almost impossible to adjust the color for them to look as good as what I see when taking the picture.
I was thinking (I'm going on a limp, here!) that IF I had a reference picture (see above), in a computer generated format, and the same pattern that I took a picture of, that I could tell LR that, let's say Magenta, is supposed to look like the one I have on my PC. and it would adjust the colors accordingly. Building a ColorProfile on the cheap would maybe best describe what I want to achieve, but only for a batch of pictures, not for the camera. (Once we sell the jewels, I promise to get a real ColorChecker and stop bugging you guys!)
Sorry to be discouraging, but I think your concept is fuzzy and ill conceived.
Basically, your task requires excellent color management. Product photography (where color matters a lot), just can't be done very well at the $0.20/print level.  You need skills and equipment for lighting and image capture. Editing should be done using a calibrated monitor, and printing done with  a profiled printer.  The image you showed reflects a serious lack of of color management.
If you succeed at what I think you are describing, your images would lose the photographic quality of continuous and subtle color gradation.  They would more closely resemble posters or cartoons than photographs.  Even though  a jewel stone may technically be a single uniform color, a good photo reveals the effects of it's surroundings, lighting, and surface effects (reflections, polarization), and shows the stone as multiple colors.  Often those colors are similar, but they are never all the same.
In any case if you still want to go down the path of "block" colors, LR is the wrong tool. Try Photoshop,  which makes it relatively easy to select a range of similar colors and convert them to a single color.

• Mis-matched color in Before and After views

I recently purchased and installed LR 2.1 on a new HP 2.4 gb Vista 64 bit. 4 gb mem. Nvidia GeForce 9300GE card. Single LCD monitor. All updates installed.
While looking at an unedited Canon raw file in before and after I noticed that the gray was a little darker in the before view than in the after. I created a gray image in PS CS3 and took a look and it was the same.
This view can be very helpful but misleading if the colors will not match.
Any suggestions to a cure?
Thanks, Richard

Try generating a Matrix profile instead of a LUT-based profile (a setting in the i1 software I believe). Somebody else reported a problem in shadow colors when using LUT-based profiles.
There can be a difference because the before view is based on the preview which is usually stored as a jpeg in adobeRGB space and the after view is rendered from the linear prophotoRGB space that Develop uses. It is possible that you're simply looking at artefacts because of that.

• Album art not matching correctly between iTunes and iPhone.

So as much as this might not seem as an issue for some, I notice that my album artwork in iTunes does not always match up with the album art on my phone. If I think that some artwork for a song or album is unappealing or not matching, I will change it to my own artwork. Normally, this has never been an issue for me until recently. What happens is I do the normal album art changing procedure (go to get info, add/delete album art) and it works fine. The odd thing is that when I go to select an album on my phone, the album art is the same as what it was in the iTunes Store and not what I added, but the individual songs have the album art that I added myself.
I've managed to fix this issue on some albums by converting them mp3 format, but that only works for some and I don't know why. I would prefer the song art and album art be the same, just because I'm really nitpicky about things matching. Am I missing a step or doing something wrong? Does anyone else happen to have this issue, or any clue what the problem might be? Help would be much appreciated, thanks!

• Having trouble with connection between Mac and My Book Live

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with a rather frustrating issue. I have issues with the connection between a mac and the MBL. Trawling through the internet, all comments and issues regarding this relate to Time Machine. I do not use Time Machine, but have a different issue.
I have a WD My Book Live, connected through home Router. I have, for the past couple of years, been using it to store all my music collection on. I use Itunes on a Mac Book Pro, and point the Itunes Folder to the MBL. This has worked fine....until.....I upgraded to OSX Mavericks......oh dear.
Now, the connection is unusably slow, even when using Finder to view the contents of the MBL, it takes forever for anyhting to even show in the Finder Screen. Then, when I open Itunes it becomes even slower. Music will not play, it keeps stopping and starting, and trying to add music to the library takes hours.
So, can anyone help with what the issue could be. I have updated the Firmware on the MBL, as well as updated the Mac.
I also have a Window laptop and it is super speedy when viewing the MBL.
Thanks

Sadly that didnt seem to it. It is something to do with Itunes. Without Itunes open the connection is acceptable (still nothing like a Windows connection to the MBL, but acceptable I guess), but as soon as Itunes is open, it becomes slow, I am into day 2 of adding music to Itunes (not actually moving files, just building the library)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The usual reason for this is that you’re using a different colour space in Photoshop. Try using sRGB in both, see if it helps.
