Trouble obtaining IP adress through DHCP protocals, cable modem.

Ok, lets see where do I start. Recently obtained a Mac G4 (not sure of the details other than that) and trying to hook it up to the internet through a cable modem.
The problem is, I can't seem to get it to comunicate properly to the DHCP server to obtain one automaticaly. Without that, I can't access the internet.
I've talked to the ISP support and they say that everything checks out on their side. I'm inclined to believe that as the computer I'm using now (windows PC) is connected to the same cable modem and has absolutely no issue.
Obviously as a windows user, I'm a newb at working macs, and so far I've pulled up zilch trying to research this issue.
Does any one have any idea what might be causing this and how to resolve it?

Many cable systems only talk to the machine that was registered when you signed up (thats why they ask for the MAC addess of your computer) or they want you to pay for a second, third... IP address.
A small (4 port) managed router should resolve your issue of "only one at a time"
The router will act as your local DHCP server and allow multiple machines to access internet (and each other) simultaniously.
On their web site, Linksys provides step-by-step configuration for most major cable systems.

  • WRT54GS wireless Can't Through Motorolla SB5101 Cable Modem

    I have a linksys wrt54gs wireless router. I have had it for almost 2 years, it has been hooked up to a DSL modem, no problems whatsoever. I just moved, and now have a Motorolla SB5101 cable modem.
    I followed all of the steps exactly for setting up the router with a cable modem. Everything went smooth, when I check the status of the router, it has an IP address, everything's good. But I can't get online. The modem is fine, I'm hooked up right now via USB. The router is also fine, I can log into it and everything. All the lights are good on both the router and the modem. I downloaded and installed the latest firmware, I've power cycled, nothing. I know it has to be something simple, some setting somewhere.
    Please help.

    My troubles started after I upgraded my WRT54G V2.0 to the latest firmware.  The download firmware file is prefixed with WRT54GV4.0_ which leads me to question if it is supported to run on my WRT54G V2.0 machine. 
    The full name of the firmware binary in the Zip archive is "WRT54GV4.0_4.21.1.US_code.bin".  Please confirm or correct that this is the latest & greatest firmware version for my V2.0 WRT54G.
    The problem presents itself as an in-ability to connect to ot ping any IP device past the RF side of the Motorola SBV5120 Cable Modem (also an older Motorola SB4100). 
    I use DHCP on the Modem with OOL's (Optimum On-Line) DHCP Server, in turn I use DHCP on the Router with the Modem as DHCP server and finally use the Router as DHCP Server for my home network desk top/laptop/printservers/USB wireless hubs.  Either the Router's MAC address or my laptop's MAC Address is reported in the SBV5120's configuration as CPE device, depending on which is connected.  I can always connect to the internet by cabling my laptop directly to the bodem's Ethernet port instead of the Router's WAN-Internet-Link port.
    According to OOL tech Support, The SBV5120 and downstream devices do not care about which MAC addresses is used, just that one is present.  Apparently the ability of spoofing to defeate MAC Address Filtering worked, so they don't do it any more (My guess - let me know if I'm right or wrong)
    The modem log consistently reports success in completing the DHCP process and reports itself as operational.  After a series of power cycle of both modem and router, I was finally able to connect to the internet through the router.  This lasted about 28 hours.  If I connect the IP LAN port of my laptop, I can connect to the internet. 
    At this point, I found the firmware alternative,  dd-WRT, and replaced the LinkSys firmware with the dd-WRT firmware.  Consistent ability to connect to the inter has been the result.  The Latest LinkSys firmware is in question.  I hope they have a plan to fix it.  If not, I'm going to look very closely at the alternatives when it comes time to purchase 11n products.

  • Unable to DHCP from Cable Modem

    I have to manually set the external ip on my TC every time my ISP (Knology) updates my cable modem. If I set the TC to receive DHCP from the modem, I don't receive an IP. I've reset my modem many times using a variety of methods. Nothing helped. As soon as I connect my MBP directly to the Modem and receive the latest public IP, I turn right around and enter the IP into the TC. Knology provides a renewed public IP on the average of once a week. Obviously having to reset the TC once a week is time consuming and annoying. Any ideas?

    What other ISPs are available? Perhaps it is time for a change to an ISP which is more user friendly.

  • WRV54G connection to WCG200 Cable Modem ?

    Has anyone tried setting up their WCG200 with a WRV54G?
    I'm having trouble and I was hoping someone out there has done it successfully.
    Here's what I've done/learned:
    1. I've only had success connecting the vpn router with a straight-thru cable from the ethernet ports. (like hooking up 2 routers)
    2. I've needed to keep the DHCP service on the cable modem in order for it to hit the gateway.
    3. The VPN is set to router (not gateway).
    What I've tried that DIDN'T work:
    a) Used the WAN port on the VPN router to connect to the Cable Modem
    b) Used static addresses instead of DHCP and configuring the VPN router to use the default gateway IP of the cable modem address.
    c) Used separated networks like 192.168.0.x for cable modem and 192.168.1.x for VPN and change the subnet mask to 254.
    d) Firewalls turned off; DMZ set to IP for VPN router
    So, my network is like this:
    10.0.0.1 - Cable Modem
    10.0.0.2 - VPN Router
    10.0.0.3~6 - PCs
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    All clients hooked through the VPN router which connects to cable modem uplink port.
    DHCP on Cable Modem
    VPN pass-through enabled
    I'm able to get out from my internal network with this setup, but unable to QuickLink into it yet. It's functioning just like an ethernet multi-router system all on the same network, basically.
    I've tried to use the Linksys default setup disk to setup the VPN in various conditions, but no go, and there's precious little help from the manuals for this case. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    HI , what you have done here is that by putting the WRV on the DMZ , you have opened all ports for the WRV.However , on the WCG itself all ports may possibly be blocked. Even though the VPN passthrough is enabled.
    Try and forward the VPN ports on the WCG as well (1723,500,50,43-47,445)

  • Can't connect to internet, Motorola cable modem seems to freeze

    I have had this problem more and more fequently the past three or four weeks: I'm connected to the internet by ethernet through a motorola cable modem (SB5101). As long as the PC activity light on the modem is rapidly flashing amber things are fine. As soon as the activity light goes solid amber with no flashing I can no longer connect to the internet or send or receive mail. During one of these "freezes" when I check network status in the network pane of system preferences the light beside ethernet is yellow and the message says-"Built in ethernet is currently active. Built in ethernet has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet." When I check when my connection is working I get a green light and this message "Built in ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 70.44.etc. etc.(not sure if I should make the whole IP address public or not)You are connected to the internet through built in ethernet." I also notice when I check the Built in ethernet under network in sytem preferences that the IP address changes depending on whether the modem seems frozen or not. When disconnect the power to the modem and reconnect, I notice that within about two minutes the IP address changes and I can get back online again. Or at least I could. last time I did this the IP address did not change and I couldn't get back online. Now I'm using my iBook connected via ehternet, which is working fine for now (past 15 minutes). When I first plugged the iBook into the ethernet (I normally connect to the iBook through a snow airport, which I've disconnected to try to isolate this problem) I got this message(with an exclamation in a stop sign)-"IP configuration- 70.44.53.etc in use by 00:01:50:23:3e:c2 DHCP server24.229.54.226". I clicked through the box, and the iBook is still connected to the internet and working. I have contacted Motorola tech support, and it seems the modem is OK. I will contact my cable company next, but I don't have high hopes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply to my post. I was able to get back on the internet with the G4 using your suggestion, but the modem continues to freeze, whether connected to the iBook or the G4, using ethernet or airport. I will contact my ISP.

  • WRT54GS slamming Cable modem with Packets

    I'm having trouble with my WRT54GS locking up my Cable Modem. TWC says its slamming the cable modem with too many packets. Is there any way to check this on my end? Full story below.
    A little about my set up. I have Time Warner Cable business class Roadrunner service. 5 Static IPs. 4 being used at the moment. The Cable modem has a 4 port switch built in. Port 1 has a month or so old WRT54GS router v7 latest firmware (Gateway mode, Channel 6). Port 2 goes to my Sonicwall Barracuda them my internal network which also has WRT54GS router v7 latest firmware (Router mode, Channel 1). Both routers are sitting next to each other. Ports 3 & 4 have a Vonage Router hooked to each of them.
    I started having trouble April 5 with the Internet being down that morning, then that night and falling morning. I power cycled the Cable modem to restore service. Called Time Warner Cable after the third reset. They told me that didn't see anything wrong from their end and I should call them when it is down. I did this and they said they would send someone out the next morning Friday. They came out on Friday morning and Checked cable which the tech said was fine so he replaced the Cable modem around 11:30. Fifteen minutes after he left the internet went down. I called TWC again. They did diagnostics on the cable modem from their end and saw that whatever was hooked up to port 1 was sent out 400 packets/sec. I think they said the cable modem could only handle 300. Port 1 is connect a WRT54GS v7 (latest firmware). We are using it for our Blackberries from Cincinnati Bell for WIFI and UMA service (like T-Mobiles @Home service) for VoWiFi. I turned off all the phones but the router was still slamming the modem with packets. I turned off the WiFi just in case someone hacked our WPA2 key. Still slamming the router with packets with only my laptop hardwired to it for setting up the router. I turned off the router and the modem wasn't getting hammered anymore. Port 2 which is my internal network was only up to 150 after open a lot of TV shows. Ports 3 & 4 nothing. I disconnected the WRT54GS hooked to Port 1.
    15 minutes after I got off the phone with TWC internet goes down. They send out a tech on Saturday to check the line again. he sees a slight problem on the line but it should not be causing a problem which the first guy might have thought. But since I am having trouble he goes outside and checks the connections. He finds loose connection and a bad line cap (blocking cable TV). He fixes the connections and replaced the line cap. He comes back inside and rechecks the line. Everything is great no more fluxation of signal or packet loss. I hook the WRT54GS back but it still takes down the modem. So I figure that it's just bad. So I take the WRT54GS from my internal network and set it up to match the one for the Blackberries it's replace. I install a WAP54G on the internal network in it's place. I can't get my Blackberry to get a UMA connection and doing Google searched find this page

    I set up my router and Assess point with the setting from the above except the channel setting leaving them on channel 6 & 1 so they don't interfere with each other. Set: Fragment Threshold : 2304 (256-2346), RTS Threshold : 2304 (0-2347) and Beacon Interval : 50 (20-1024 ms). I also Enable WMM QOS. My phone connects and internet seems to be staying up Saturday Evening. I come to work Sunday afternoon and Internet is still up. I check my phone I have UMA signal and everything is right with the world. 20 minutes later internet goes down. I unplug the WRT54GS and power cycle the cable modem. I am now waiting to see it the internet will stay up without any WRT54GS hooked up.
    I have not had a problem before and both Linksys are not even 6 months old. I have read review were people have had trouble with the WRT54GS. Were some people have no trouble will other all kinds of trouble.

    As you said cable connected to the pc is working fine!!...connect modem to the router WRT54GS...reset the router once (30 secs) in such a way that Power light on the router is blinking...power cycle complete network i.e., unplug modem & router power cable for 30 secs...plug in modem power cable once lights are solid green plug in the power cable to the router...its important that after upgrading firmware resetting the router is important...so try this & it should deifnately work.Do the wireless & advanced wireless settings as router is currently in default settings.
    Also, you want to connect your access point WAP54G to the router & open the setup page of WAP54G using 192.168.1.245 do the wireless settings & try connecting to the wireless router & then check....should work.

  • EA4500 Won't get a DHCP WAN address from Cable Modem

    I have an EA 4500 that I used to replace a bad WRT45 (or something like that).  We have an ADT camera system that allows you to view the cameras locally and remotely.  All I have to do is set a static internal address on the DVR and the public IP on the router in the application.  I duplicated the setting in the old router and everything was running smoothly.  However, the speed test result I was getting from the router and speedtest.net were not even close to what we were paying for (wireless and wired.  But it was functional. 
    I called Comcast and they said we needed a Docsis 3 modem.  So, I went to the Comcast office and they traded out my modem for a docsis 3.  Hooked it up and everything was working again.  Speeds were better but not really up to par.  Hooked my laptop directly into the new modem and I was getting speeds off the charts.  Frustrated, I called Comcast, they said the modem needed to be put in Bridge mode. Then the EA4500 wouldn't get a DHCP WAN adress.  They took it out of bridge mode.  Same result. 
    They sent a tech out (Mind you I've been a Network Engineer for almost 20 yrs) and he tells me they gave me the wrong modem (I wasn't there either, roommate let him in).  He replaced the modem with a new all inclusive router/switch/wifi modem.  He then proceeds to setup a whole new network, which of course , except the laptops that connected, my devices don't see ( printers, cameras, dvr, etc).  Then, this baffles me... he did a factory reset on my EA4500. So now there are 2 seperate networks one with slow Internet and one without WAAN services. 
    After all this, my EA4500 still will not get a WAN address when plugged into the new modem.  I would just use their new modem but to make any config changesto it, something as simple as changing the SSID name or the password, you have to call them.  They won't give you access to the admin page.
    Anyone have any ideas why my EA4500 won't get a WAN address? Oh, btw, I did do a MAC address clone on the EA4500 while connected to the modem and it DID get the address, but the speeds were dismal, not even 1mb up or down.

    There is a need to reset and reconfigure the EA4500 router to work with the new modem. There are certain configurations on the router that will make it work for a particular modem, and this might be causing the issue. Cable modem authenticates end users through username and password but there are cable modem/router as well in which the IP address are on the same range with the default IP address of the router. Please try to check the IP address of the computer wired directly to your modem, it should not be on the same IP address range with the EA4500 router since it will cause IP address conflict. You can change the default IP address of your router from 192.168.1.1 to 10.10.10.1. Please try to make sure that your router also has the latest firmware version installed. And it would help if you do port forwarding on the router for your camera and DVRs to resolve NAT issues.

  • Hi, I have a MacBook Pro and a PC both connected to a TC who in turn is connected to a cable modem. I have no wifi accessfrom my MacBook pro (self assigned IP - no internet connection msg) while I do on PC through ethernet? can anyone help?

    I was working yesterday afternoon when the wifi suddenly went cold. Initially on the MacBookPro and on the ethernet connected PC. I reinitialized modem and TC  through the mac and then the ethernet on the PC worked again and has since. 
    I've reinitialized both the modem and TC many times, as well as checked the cables. Moreover, I've tried to renew the DHCP lease, provide the DNS servers manually, erased all networks in Network preferences and in KeyChain etc. but nothing seems to work.
    One strange thing also happened. I had two networks created, one for me and one I created for guests. The latter one just vanished, dissapeared without a trace.
    I've tried from the café down the street and the Wifi worked perfectly well though a little slow, but that could be their connection not the Airport. Therefore, my  I deduct that there is either something wrong in the TC or something went wrong in the network settings in the Mac. But that doesn't help to move forward and fix the darn thing.
    The only thing I haven't done is completely reset the TC, but after reading a couple of help threads on different forums I'm confused as to how to proceed to get it back to worrk? Has anyone had the same or similar issue and found a solution?

    My TC is a 3rd gen.
    I actually had to reset to standard defaults not only once but twice. The first time I simply returned to my old profile but that only led to the same message error on the network settings (i.e. IP by default, cannot connect to the internet). Therefore the second time around I kept my profile as backup and re-created a new one plus a guest one.
    The airport utility then signaled to issues remaining:
    1) Internet access was cut - this I solved by simply reseting the cable modem
    2) There were no DNS Servers - I simply copied the ones I had from the previous setup and it worked
    I did have AppleCare....
    I'm online again and I hope for good.

    PS. a small tip - I made captures of all my settings in Network settings, Airport Utility and Network utility using Grab in case of ... if anything it is just handy to get back settings that your are missing when setting up a new configuration

  • Router connected to cable modem by Ethernet port cannot get IP address from DHCP.

    I have an ethernet cable on Fa0/0 connecting my 1841 router to my cable modem. The issue is that the router cannot obtain an IP address via DHCP when I have the "ACL-OUTSIDE-IN" ACL applied inbound on the Fa0/0 interface. I tried to allow all BOOTP and BOOTPS traffic in my ACL, but still no luck. I really don't want to run the router without a simple ACL firewall and connect it to the internet. When I take off the ACL off of Fa0/0, the router is able to get an IP address via DHCP.

  • Multiple sites ASA's connected to Cable modems with same DHCP address

    I have several locations with an ASA 5505 installed behind a cable modem. The cable modem is issuing DHCP for the same network address range in these locations. I have the outside interface obtaining DHCP from the cable moden network and the asa's are receiving the same outside address. I have the remotes set to use EZVPN to create the VPN tunnel back to the head end ASA 5540. I am seeing constant rekeying for phase 2 for those remote sites. is there any thing I can do short of assigning each asa a unique outside address?

    The Linksys doing NAT is the reason why the ASA sees all the traffic as having source address as 192.168.2.1. The only way for the ASA to see the original 192.168.1.x address is to change the Linksys to not do NAT.
    One thing that I notice is that there is not a route statement in what you posted for the 192.168.1.0 network. It is not clear whether the route does exist and you did not post it or whether the route does not exist. But if it does not exist it would certainly be a reason why you lose Internet connectivity when you change the Linksys to not perform NAT. (the ASA would have no knowledge of how to forward to the network and would drop all the traffic). Try adding the route to the ASA and changing the Linksys to not perform NAT and let us know if it works.

  • Trouble connecting Cisco router with cable modem for Internet purposes

    So I am requesting help from the Cisco community on this issue as the cable company states there equipment is working fine.  At all my facilities I have a guest Internet service setup through a local Internet provide to provide Internet services to the residents and guests.  I have the cable modem usually a Motorola SBG6580 or a SMC 8014 (both provided by cable company) connected to my router on a FE or GE interface.  I am using static IPs and using the cable modem just as a modem (bridge mode).  Over the past several months these connections have just stopped working.  I have not made any drastic changes to my router configs; however, the cable company has updated the firmware on these modems.  I am wondering if that could affected how the modem and router talk.  I was told by the cable company that the modem sees the Cisco router but that the port is inactive.  My router shows the port is active and traffic passing.  Does anyone have any ideas that could point where the problem lies?  I will post a basic config to one that currently does not work.  I am using a VRF to route a certain group out, using NAT.  Please let me know if I need to post additional info.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Help 4 DHCP Cable modem on Vlan SF 300-8

    I have Multiwan router with 1 port WAN and 4 DHCP Cable modem connected to SF 300-8. I want to connect 4 modem via VLAN through switch. I define Vlan2,3,4,5 on router also in Switch. port 1 on the router as trunk and the other port 2,3,4,5 as Vlan2,3,4,5 with VLAN mode Access. I tag port 1 on every VLAN also Untagged for each port. I having problem when I check the status from multiwan router. all IP address is the same (duplicate). what I want is each VLAN has own DHCP Address. Is that any miss configuration ?

    I do not have first hand experience with the Q Balancer but it should not be behind the switch as shown in your diagram. The Q-Balancer is a router and technically so are the modems, so by placing the switch in between you are defeating the purpose of the balancer. I may be completely wrong...
    The other thing is that you are trying to IP the modems but you are not routing anything. This will be a very long response and what I will try to do is create a Visio showing how it should be laid out. The basics is that the connection between the Qbalancer and the switch should be Point-to-point with a route statement for all your subnets. The switch should be a L3 switch with DHCP relay enabled and pointing to your DHCP server (Qbalancer?). But the thing is that now we create a problem, how is the traffic coming in from the cloud. I mean is the destination a single subnet behind the QBal. or what?
    I just do not understand why you would have the switch between the Modems and the Qbal.? Where is your LAN? Are you provisioning the modems like an ISP? Are you providing a service or is the internet service being provided to you?

  • Having Trouble getting airport to connect to new comcast cable modem

    Help,  I'm been at this for 2 days now.  I don't know why I'm having so much trouble.   I'm trying to transfer from DSL to  comcast cable modem and running into lots of problems getting everything to work. 
    I can't get my airport extrreme to talk to my new comcast cable modem.  I've tried everything, restart the modem, restart and reset the airport.  chaning out cables, ensuring the green light is at the cable connection of the modem and the airport. 
    I can find two issues I can't resolve.  one, the 10.0.0.1 webpage for the modem/router doesn't response, pings fail to 10.0.0.1. Yet, my computer is talking to the internet nicely using an ethernet cable to this cable modem.  I've talked to comcast for hours, to many different people, over Many hours, and they either say the box is working or hang up on me or transfering me to nowhere land.
    The airport never goes to a green front light, and airport utility and always dispay an empty  IPv4 address.  I've tried everything, and can't get the airport to renew it's DHCP license. 
    Where am I going wrong?  I've search the web, and tried the solutions I found.  Is my 3 year old airport too old? or is my comcast box bad? I checked the airport firmware and I'm on the latest version.
    After getting this working, I still have an OOMA to transfer over to the comcast modem.  Am I kidding my self?  Help please.

    ok, answering my own question, Turns out, there are three ways to do a hard reset on my airport extreme.  Only the last method worked.  The easy reset, from the  Airport utility menu ( clicking the restore default setting) didn't make my airport talk to the new comcast cable modem.  The second way, by pressing the reset button while power up didn't work. The harder third way, hold in the reset button and then plugging in the power cord did work.  and the airport is now playing nicely with cable modem.   I wasted how many hours before reading this method in the apple support pages ?  and then remember doing this trick once many years ago. 
    I also wasted a few hours trying to get ooma to talk  on the new cable modem, and the hard reset key for OOMA to play nicely with a new modem can be complicated. This method requires it to be connected and working (  plug ooma tele into the older DSL network), hook a phone to it, dial  * # * # 0 9 9, (star, pound, star,pound then 099) and saying yes.    That reset it to factory settings letting it reconfigure itself to a new modem gateway.
    I still can't get into the gateway web page 10.0.0.1 to change the admin password, Don't advertise that. I get  no reply to request or to pings.  I think some comcast rep changed a port setting so I can't reach it.  So I have an open wireless connection and unprotected. 
    I hate switching my network provider. Now I need to write it all down, for when I get fed up with comcast and decide to move to another provider.

  • Basic home network setup troubles: Airport, ethernet, and cable modem

    Having only just subscribed to a cable broadband service we're experiencing some troubles setting up a mixed-mode home network and I'm wondering whether we've got some of the very basics messed-up.
    What we have is:
    1. Recent version (white) ibook, with airport, running 10.4.7;
    2. Old G4 PowerPC (450MHz I think) running 10.4.7 ... airport card available;
    3. Old powerbook (?Lombard) running 10.2.8 ... no airport;
    4. A PC running Windows XP (not that important to have this in the network though) with no wireless;
    5. A 3com SuperStack 1100 switch;
    6. A cable modem;
    7. A Linksys BEFSX41 Etherfast Cable/DSL Router ... 4 ethernet switch ports;
    8. An airport express base station;
    9. An HP laser printer connected into the ethernet LAN.
    We'd like to keep both our wireless and ethernet networks running with all computers able to access one another, print to the laser printer, and access the broadband (fixed IP address) account. We're not (yet) conderned with hosting websites from our home computers.
    I'm unsure of how we should configure this system. Do I connect the airport base station to the switch (which is what we presently have) or into the router? Do I connect each of the hardwired PCs (and the printer) into the switch
    and then the switch to the router via single conenction?
    If we use DHCP to access the router have I got the potential for the router and the airport base station to interfere with one another?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've pulled a few TCP/IP setup-for-idiots books from our local library but this specific situation doesn't seem to be well covered.

    You probably have a few options here that will work. Considering the number of wired devices, I would suggest the following:
    Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Internet port] BEFSX41 [LAN_1] > (Ethernet cable) > SuperStack switch > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AirPort Express Base Station (AX) > (wireless) > wireless clients, AND
    SuperStack switch > (Ethernet cable) > wired clients
    Then setup the AX as a bridge, as follows:
    To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new setting.
    - Wait at least 5 minutes.

    Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

    Is there any chance there is a Java JDK (developing kit) for Leopard that still accepts PowerPC's? The new 1.6 versions only installs on Intel macs. I tried a older version but those will only install on OSX Tiger. I'm kinda in between =) Does anyone
