Trouble on capture

Hello,
Thanks for looking at my issue.
I am using a new Sony FX-1000 on a new Imac 24'' 4 gig ram.
I am not sure what setting I have wrong, but it will capture for 3 to 10 seconds and then will give me this error.
" Unable to communicate with VTR. Check VTR or device settings and or cabling to VTR"
Done all that, same problem. Any hints?

Everything new and the latest
Settings on FCE by the book Apple code 1080i60 ect.

Trouble with capturing video from Firewire

We're having some trouble capturing video using Final Cut Express HD. We purchased a new Apple FireWire, but are still being told nothing is being read. The camera we're using is a Canon HV20 High-def cam. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Trouble HDV capturing from a new XL-H1

I'm having trouble capturing from my XL-H1. The footage was shot in HDV 24fps and I'm trying to capture it to my G5 with a new version of FCS 5.1.
The machine seems to have trouble finding the in point and pops an error most times. When it doesd find the in point it cruzes right past the out point. When attempting to capture it also pixilates a frame or two about avery second and the video displays very choppy(during attempts to capture).
I noticed in the batch capture window, the settings say HDV, 1440X1080i and 29.97fps. and There donen't appear to be a way to set that to 24fps. Am I missing somthing?

No. I just haven't been able to successfully capture from that camera natively. I captured using my capture card...converting it to the more manageable DVCPRO HD. But I wanted HDV footage so that I could see what it was like. But I couldn't capture it.
FCP 5.1.2 and up should have all the HDV 1080p options. Make sure you click SHOW ALL in the EASY SETUP window. There are 1080p60, 1080p30 and 1080p24.
Other people have captured no problem, and yet more have my issue of not being able to. I could control the deck, but got nothing. Let us know how you fare.

Trouble with capture from HDC TM700

Can someone help me. I have Windows 7, 64 bit
system, CS5 Prem Pro. Am getting a capture device offline when trying to
capture from HDC TM700(PAL). Panasonic assures me that this wont work on a 64 bit system, but
I have read other forums that tells me this is rubbish. Have tried to set up device control, using de
vice type as standard. When I aked a panasonic support person what the devi
ce type to use was I got "Camcorder",( and all this time I thought it was a house brick!!).
What do I do now?

Trouble during capture

whenever I try to capture a video tape with Premiere, there is some kind of interference (looks like "static") which causes continual dropped frames.
Other softwaree, Roxy, Moviemaker doesn't have this issue.

Trouble locating capture deck

Hi everyone.
I'm using my camera to capture some footage, but I can't get it to work. The message I get says that my system configuration might have changed, or that my camera might be disconnected or turned off. my camera is connected and turned on. this is my first time using my new mbp to capture, and the weird thing is, that the onboard camera is on, and my image is in the preview window.
I'd really appreciate any advice I can get.

Is View > External Video set to All Frames?
If so, you might need to Shut Down and power down, then power up and boot up again.

Trouble finding Capture Device

My computer is having a very hard time finding my camera. im using final cut express on my macbook and using a sony handy cam Digital 8. (dcr-trv250 ntsc)
ive tried just about everything. any and all suggestions are very helpful and ill also give whatever other info you need to solve the problem.

well, i go into east set up and use one of the DV converter settings but no luck. how do i manually record into final cut. or a link to a tutorial would be great as well. thanks!

DeckLink HD Extreme III HDMI capture

I wont to use a BlackMagic DeckLink HD Extreme III card in a MacPro using Final Cut Pro 7 to capture a HDMI signal and capture the audio from a separate XLR source. Does anyone know if this is possible please?

well you are shooting JVC's proprietary HDV variant ... if you want to capture the native MPEG-2 transport stream from the camera or deck then you need to capture via firewire. If you capture via component then the camera is decompressing the video data and sending that decompressed data down the wires to your Decklink where it is being recompressed to the target codec ... you might set the target codec to the same HDV variant that you shot but in capturing it as such you have pushed the signal through a full recompression cycle.

Capture with Decklink HD Extreme HD 720p25 - correct settings?

I want to capture footage from JVC HD 720p25 over composite connection with my Decklink HD Extreme.
I use Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
I want to capture it with the original HD 720p25 compression or a other simular quality compression.
Please give me the right preset! I find only this preset : Blackmagic HDTV 720p50 JPEG!??
A second question:
Do you think that I`m on the right way, when I want to capture over composite?
...or should I capture over firewire??
But I hope I will have a advantage with my decklink!?

RAID Stripe size for HD Capture

Hey everyone,
So I just captured a lot of Uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2 1080i60.
The video alone requires ~ 118 MB/s sustained transfer speed for live capture without dropped frames.
I used our new MacPro. We built an internal RAID with 3 250 GB drives all striped together. I had to decide which stripe size to use. Since we have proportionally less files than the average RAID(200 or so at the most), and because our files are HUGE (2-40 GB), I figured a large stripe size would be apropriate. I set it to the max that Mac OS X software RAID supports, though I must confess I dont remember exactly what that was.
We had little trouble with capture, sustaining over 200 MB/s bandwidth with this setup according to the Blackmagic drive speed test. However, when the drives filled up, they (expectedly) slowed down quite a bit. I frequently did speed tests, and when it got low I had to switch into shooting DVCPRO HD to avoid dropped frames.
We had similar experiences before, when I had this same setup with the default stripe size, though it seemed overall a bit better with larger stripe sizes.
My questions are thus:
1) Is there any way to use a really large stripe (2MB or so) without buying a hardware RAID controller?
2) Is my thinking correct that if I have a small number of gigantic files I should use a large stripe size?
3) If I were to wipe out all my drives (including the 250 gig startup drive), and boot off the CD, could I tie all 4 drives together into RAID-0, and then install Mac OS X to that (and presumably partition it for a data storage volume)?
4) Does anyone know of a good 2-4 port eSata PCI Express card that has drivers for the MacPro? I know sonnet has a 2 port, but its one internal SATA and one eSata. I need at least 2 eSata ports for it to be worth my time, because I have a 4 drive eSata RAID box with 4 320GB drives in it. I can use the motherboard's additional 2 SATA connectors through a backplate SATA -> eSATA converter, and with 2 more eSATA ports through PCIe card, I would be able to use all 4 eSATA drives at once.
4 ports would be even better as I would like to leave internal ports for a BD-R or HD-DVD-R (or whatever they're called) drive later on.

256k is the largest block size available with Disk Utility.

128k is the largest size I would ever think about using. I even use 32k in many situations. You can test it and see what works best for you. Large block sizes do not always translate into higher performance. I find more drives in the striped RAID set helps me more than larger block sizes.

You could boot from a FW800 external and use all 4 internals
for a RAID but I think you will be happier with SATA host adapters.

Here are a few options for SATA host adapters on a Mac Pro that I use. The WiebeTech Tera Card TCES0-2e SATA host adapter provides two SATA ports and works with the Mac Pro using SiI-3132 Mac drivers 1.1.6. You can see a review at amug.org:

It works best on the Quad as it provides boot support and SMART drive support. On the Mac Pro you use the Firmtek cardbus 2SM2-E Mac driver until FirmTek can build new EFI drivers for the Mac Pro. No boot support is provided yet but it does pass SMART data to Mac OS X. Eventually the card will have Mac Pro boot support which will be nice.
Both cards use the SiI-3132 controller. If you mix the WiebeTech and the FirmTek cards the Silicon Image Mac driver version 1.1.6 will take over and block the SMART data info that the FirmTek card supplies. As this is the case, I would go with one brand or the other but not mix them in the same Mac Pro.
I have used three cards to provide six external SATA ports. You could use two cards with your external 4-bay enclosure. I would create a striped RAID with 4 external drives and two internal drives. This should provide you with the performance you need to handle 1080HD. If you want more power you could use 7 hard drives = 3 int. and 4 external.

Trouble with Oracle Migration Workbench - need help urgently

what is wrong ? (Default repository also doesn't work because of known bug) Where can i find older version of OMW that worked well?

I worked this out , it was cause by informix password. Password contains special symbols like ' and $ and . and so on. Replace them fix this.

Capture Project not working

I'm having trouble re-capturing some deleted files. When I go to capture it, it prepares the camera (Canon ZR 600), goes through all the footage and even gives a dialogue box where I can select finish. But the red slashes never go away and I can't find it on my disk any where.
I'm using FCE 3.0 with an G5 iMac (pre-isight).
Another user told me to find the captured file b4 I click finish and duplicate the file b4 it gets deleted but there's nothing there to duplicate.
So, the question is, how can it seem like it's capturing but not really capture anything?
I'm not a newbie but I've never had to re-capture a file before so I'm at a loss.

Inconsistent framerates capturing from 1200a deck

My assistant is loading material shot @ 24fps DVCPRO HD 720p using the Panasonic 1200a deck - this is material shot @ 24fps on the Varicam. We've had a problem in the past with editing material loaded at 59.94fps, in 23.98 timelines, so this time we are making absolutely certain that the material is loaded 720p24 @ 23.98fps. He starts by testing a few mins, settings on the deck set to factory default, and all is well. But he has disovered that if his clips are longer than ~9mins, the material switches from 23.98 to 59.94. ***? Basically, with the same piece of material on tape, no camera cuts, if he digitises an 8 min chunk, it comes in 720p60 @ 23.98fps. If he stretches it to 10mins, it has become 720p60 @ 59.94. What is going on?

I assume you know about setting the counter on the deck to user bits to verify your frame rate. second last two columns show the shooting rate (normally "seconds") and the first number of the last pair (normally frames) shows frequency. 5 for 59.94 6 for actual 60. It will detect in fast forward and rewind. Something from the days of hardware FRC. When I've had trouble with captures before I'll verify that the frame rate is encoded in the user bits. It is possible to get into the menus on camera and not have the frame rate encoded in the user bits. hopefully this is not the issue you are dealing with, but worth verification.

Capturing HDV 1080i

I just recently purchased a Sony HDR-FX7. I am having some trouble with capturing video and cannot seem to get the settings correct. Can anyone help me on the audio/video and capture and sequence settings for a Sony HDR-FX7 shooting in HDV 1080i? I use Final Cut Pro 5

What have you tried so far? Just checking to see if you are running into a particular problem?

Subject to the above: Generally you would go to Final Cut Pro->Easy Set Up and select HDV 1080i60 (or 50 if PAL). You will see that it mentioned Sony Control in the selection. (This is 5.1 which I just opened up, not sure which version you are running of 5.) Then create a new project (or a new sequence, though the new project may be easier to keep track of) and it should work. You may need to restart FCP and/or try combinations of turning the camera on to VTR mode either before or after starting FCP. When you open up the log and capture window you should get VTR connected message at the bottom.
